I have been good, fully recovered from Lexapro and Cipro use.  I don't think about withdrawal anymore.  The answer was TIME and GOD in both cases.  For those that are new to withdrawal, don't fret, you will be OK.  I know the beginning months are scary but it won't last forever.  Feel free to ask me questions as I am sure you will have many..especially doubts within yourself.

how did you use "weeks" method?by kearning book?or by Be patient ?

If you get her book, she explains it in there.  Its quiet simple concept but takes practice to get it to work.  And it does work.

I took it for anxiety and depression.

the book explained why I was going through what i was going through.  After you practice it, it works.  In summary, if a pending panic attack wants to hit me or one that comes out of the blue, I basically tell it to bring it on and not run away from it.  The more I tell it to bring it on, the more I am convinced that a panic attack/anxiety will not hurt me.  Over some time, the attacks become less intense, less frequent.  It's genius!

Aeroman, I was thinking this am and I wanted to come on here and thank you so very much for coming back. Believe me when I say, I do understand why , after a person is recovered, they might never ever want to return to the site for various reasons, but I am so thankful for you, and all those like you, who have come back for us, those still in the tapering path and recovery path. Those of us who do very much need to hear the words, "you will recovery, this too shall pass" and then allow us to bombard you with questions. It has meant so much to me and I want to again, tell you, thank you so much!!!!????

Hi Aeroman,

So great to hear about your success, feeling very happy for you!

You mentioned that you had bad anxiety and fear, so I was wondering exactly how bad was it? I'm constantly on the verge of panic attack and get only a few hours here and few hours there without worrying about my health or fearing of having a heart attack, but even then I'm overly nervous/anxious. That's the main problem I'm having and getting really tired of it, since the constant worry and fear just feeds itself and it seems so hard to break this vicious circle.

Late March 2017: started Sepram 20mg for ~2 weeks, changed to Escitalopram 15mg for 4 days in early April

Late March 2017: started Olanzapin 5mg for ~2 & 1/2 weeks

Quit both cold turkey before ECT treatments early April

Withdrawal symptoms really kicked in on 21/4/17

Hi, what you are experiencing is 2nd fear per Dr. Claire Weekes book. I had it bad and I did the same thing. I would be afraid of having a panic attack and in doing so, I triggered one. I recommend you read "Hope and Help With Your Nerves" by Dr. Claire Weekes. You can also do a search for her mp3s where she describes, in a nutshell, her method in tackling anxiety attacks. Take care.

Hi. I had both and they both resolved with time. I don't know which drugs did what and quite frankly, it didn't make a difference for recovery. Take care.

Did you have pssd issues that cleared up as well aero? I wish we had more stories like this on this site. Congrats, and best of luck moving forward into the future.

Lexapro and abilify for 5 days in November 2016, unsure about dosage. Pssd and the works.

I'm 3 months off still experience pssd and tinnitus as well as brain fog which comes in waves. I don't feel much sexually neither with touch or when I trying to fantasyse mentally I feel really numb down there. I don't have panic attacks anymore but I do feel anxiety and some agitation. It's like my cortisol levels are up high. I gut feeling tells me never to touch the poison again but I do feel my cns has been traumatized by so many cold turkeys except for the lexapro which I cut the pill in bits maybe that's what caused pssd? I don't know what to do now really

  • 3 weeks later...

Aeroman,

Thank you for coming back to share with us.  Your story gives me hope that I will eventually heal, but in the mean time how the hell do I cope?  Am I the worst case scenario?  Probably not.  However, I can tell you that 3 months med free from a very fast taper has left me semi functional and non-functional some days.  I'd say it's about 50/50.  Any words of wisdom?

Mid 2014 - June 2016 (~ 2.5 yrs): sertraline 75mg. Under advice of my Pysch NP, weaned off in 1 month

Sept 2017 - Feb 2017 (6 months): Latuda (dose 20mg up to 80mg). Under advice of Psych NP, weaned off in 6 weeks (Jan - mid Feb). Tirtated down 20mg every 2 weeks.

Nov 2017 - Feb 2017 (3 months): lamictal 100mg. Abruptly taken off. This was the "wean": 100mg, 50mg, then off

Feb 2017: sertraline 150mg for 1 week to bring me out of a severe suicidal depression. Abruptly stopped due to serotonin syndrome. Tried to reinstate 50mg a week later, but the serotonin syndrome symptoms came back. Not possible to reinstate sertraline.

March 2017: remeron 7.5mg. Took one dose that knocked me out for two days. Refused to take it again

February 2017 - March 2017: Ativan 1mg. Took 5 pills total spread out over the course of 3 weeks. No longer taking it.

6/16/18 - 6/26: celexa 1.25mg

6/27/18 - 6/29: celexa 2.5mg, 6/29 had burning and agitation within 30min of dose

6/30/18 - present: celexa 1.25mg

What I did was watch a lot of funny movies, cruised around the internet to read recovery stories, or did brain puzzle games to burn time.  Usually my evenings were better than mornings so I had to find a way to kill time until evenings came.  No, you are not the worst case scenario.  It's a common thought we all get and hard to get rid of.   You're at Month 3 post SSRI?  Yeah, that was about the time I got hit really bad and it wasn't until Month 10-12ish that I felt some relief.

Aeroman and crew. One question today. Even though I am 6 months clean, I find that my eyes look quite unnatural. there is a coating of liquid or something over them....par for the course???

late July...lexapro 10 seroquel 25.....due to mild depression......adverse reaction, suicidal thoughts, hospitalization

August....felt that meds were ripping stomach apart....docs didn't believe me..upped meds to seroquel 125, lexapro 20, mirtazapine 30, olanzapine 20....stayed on these drugs unitl mid november......severe anhedonia all the time...mid novemeber 2016 , began taper.....very small windows of emotion...Christmas....off everything by Christmas day......last six weeks, cried and laughed on a number of occasions for first time since taking initial meds....8 occasions of strong emotion over 6 weeks in ealry 2016.......doubting recovery......

BIG WINDOW IN july 2017, felt incredible, lasted a month or so, felt close to recovered...window left, september to Chrimstas 17 was anhedonic hell.....Turn of the year, January 2018, some very strong days (a window) offering renewed hope

back to hell until late February 2018, strong 10 day window....followed by anhedonic wave for 7 months straight! not a flicker of normalcy

September 2018 ...incredible window...followed by three month wave.January 2019.... a strong window

window subsided, but new baseline was higher.....life since January 2019 ( 9 months and counting) has been far better. Complete anhedonia is gone!! God, I've tears writing that. I am far from recovered, but far from hell...to use a scale, if life is rated out of a hundred, I was about minus 50 for the majority of 2 years..I know feel about 30 per cent of self, experiences intermittent flickers of normal life regularly....My days have more quality and I am optimistic of recovery.

Question, Aeroman -

What routines, supplements, dietary changes and so on that you used during the recovery process are you still using/doing now that you are recovered - and what one's are you not doing?

My question is motivated by wanting to know if I am going to be sipping on magnesium-glycinate water forever, if theanine is now an every day thing for me for life, if one day I can start treating myself to some occasional dessert, and so on.

Hi Aeroman!  SO happy that you have recovered from Cipro… that setback was awful.

You may or may not know that I've incurred permanent physical damage, but I have seen a lot of healing.  Still, I am physically disabled, though.

I'm now facing a situation where there is a 99% chance that I will have to take antibiotics, and I'm scared.  I'm on week 8 of a sinus infection, so I have no other options left.  Do you have any advice for me as I face the possibility of antibiotics?  I am afraid that I will become retarded again (you know what I mean) and that my dystonia will become full-blown again.

*I'm not a doctor and don't give medical advice, just personal experience
**Off all meds since Nov. 2014. Mentally & emotionally recovered; physically not
-Dual cold turkeys off TCA & Ativan in Oct 2014. Prescribed from 2011-2014

-All meds were Rxed off-label for an autoimmune illness.  It was a MISDIAGNOSIS, but I did not find out until AFTER meds caused damage.  All med tapers/cold turkeys directed by doctors

-Nortriptyline May 2012 - Dec 2013. Cold turkey off nortrip & cold switched to desipramine

-Desipramine Jan 2014 - Oct. 29, 2014 (rapid taper/cold turkey)

-Lorazepam 1 mg per night during 2011
-Lorazepam 1 mg per month in 2012 (or less)

-Lorazepam on & off, Dec 2013 through Aug 2014. Didn't exceed 3x a week

-Lorazepam again in Oct. 2014 to help get off of desipramine. Last dose lzpam was 1 mg, Nov. 2, 2014. Immediate paradoxical reactions to benzos after stopping TCAs

-First muscle/dystonia side effects started on nortriptyline, but docs too stupid to figure it out. On desipramine, muscle tremors & rigidity worsened

-Two weeks after I got off all meds, I developed full-blown TD.  Tardive dystonia, dyskinesia, myoclonic jerks ALL over body, ribcage wiggles, facial tics, twitching tongue & fingers, tremors/twitches of arms, legs, cognitive impairment, throat muscles semi-paralyzed & unable to swallow solid food, brain zaps, ears ring, dizzy, everything looks too far away, insomnia, numbness & electric shocks everywhere when I try to fall asleep, jerk awake from sleep with big, gasping breaths, wake with terrors & tremors, severely depressed.  NO HISTORY OF DEPRESSION, EVER. Meds CREATED it.

-Month 7: hair falling out; no vision improvement; still tardive dystonia; facial & tongue tics returned
-Month 8: back to acute, incl. Grand Mal seizure-like episodes. New mental torment, PGAD, worse insomnia
-Month 9: tardive dystonia worse, dyskinesia returned. Unable to breathe well due to dystonia in stomach, chest, throat
-Month 13: Back to acute, brain zaps back, developed eczema & stomach problems. Left leg no longer works right due to dystonia, meaning both legs now damaged
-7 years off: Huge improvements, incl. improved dystonia

Hi Wigglelt-- I just finished treatment for a sinus infection using the antibiotic Keflex. It worked very well on the infection and doesn't have the nasty side effects that ones like Cipro are known for.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Aeroman and crew. One question today. Even though I am 6 months clean, I find that my eyes look quite unnatural. there is a coating of liquid or something over them....par for the course???

Sorry, not familiar with that

Lexparo 10mg user for 2.5 years. Last dose was 2/27/2008 after a fast 1 month taper. Recovered around 2011. Had issues with depression, anxiety, akathasia, inner restlessness, vertigo, insomnia, loss of appetite, eye floaters just to name a few. Basically rode it out, employing the Dr. Claire Weekes method.

Took Cipro in July of 2014 and have been having set backs with nausea, vertigo, anxiety (racing thoughts), and depression the last half of 2014.

Hi, I did a lot of Sudoku, Netflix, whatever it was to burn time.  I didnt change my diet, i laid off the caffeine.  Now that I am recovered, I dont really do anything different compared to before SSRI.  I make sure i get sleep and simply enjoy life.  I tried all of those supplements and they didnt do anything for me.  TIME was my answer.

I had similar issue even at 1 year mark.  You have to give it more time.  You'll feel better.

Hi!  I would just stay away from the Fluoroquinolones (sp?)  I took something else besides Cipro and I did ok.  Yes, stay away from FQs.  You will be fine if you take any other antibiotic but just look at the side effects and make sure no psychiatric issues are listed.  I also check the FDA website for reports of issues.

4 months, in my opinion, is still pretty early in the WD. I don't think anything you take is ever permanent.

You can also try natural solutions too.  My favorite is colloidal silver nose spray and some people use oregano oil spray.  Try those before antibiotics?

<p>10 years of ssri and finally tapered off in 2 years. Off Celexa by jan/28/2014 and off benzos by March/6th/2014 after only two months use and still experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

I've been doing natural stuff and nothing has worked yet.  Antibiotics are my absolute last resort if it comes back that this is a bacterial infection.  ENT is exploring whether it is bacterial or not.  Thanks for the tips!

Hi Aero!

I just read the FDA warnings and psych issues have been reported with EVERYTHING, even amoxicillin.  I will definitely avoid FQs and will only take antibiotics for this if my ENT says it's bacterial.

Thank you for the fast responses and the hope you prove for this community.

Aeroman, I have a question for you if that's alright. Currently I'm really fighting with myself on some things. Did you ever have something like hypochondria? Every little sensation in my body freaks me out, even things I know aren't harmful. It's maddening! Did you ever have something like that? How did you cope and how did it go away for you? Thanks in advance!

- 2010 Fluoxetine 20mg (no issues, did well)
- Mid 2012 Switched to Celexa 20mg (no issues with switch)
- 6/16 Stopped Celexa (always took med once every other day, tapered to once every three days for about a week and a half, took one a week for one week, no problems)
- 10/20/16 Started Celexa 20mg (next day had panic attacks, stopped after three days, kept having panic attacks and anxiety rest of the month)
- 10/28/16 Started Paxil 20mg (took for almost a week, had suicidal thoughts/severe derealization, tapered off to one every other day for a few days)
- 12/8/16 Buspirone 5mg twice daily (felt drowsy but kept anxiety under wraps, still taking it)
- 12/27/16 Venlafaxine XR 37.5mg (took two days, migraine first day, headache all day second day, third day had severe depression/outbursts of crying, couldn't stop most of the day, bad invasive thoughts, never took third dose because of it)
- 1/7/17 taper Buspirone 20% (miscalculation but doing well), gradually slivered off tablet throughout month to almost half each pill

- 2/3/17 taper Buspirone 2.5mg twice daily (did fine, listened to body), gradually slivered off tablet throughout month

* Aromatherapy 100% oils in diffuser every night *

* Morning stretching routine every day *
