Dissociating / disconnecting to cope?

I think I'm dissociating/disconnecting to cope with enormous stressors that I haven't been able to discuss yet. One new one as of this week is my mother having emergency surgery back in PA. A family friend let me know. My drug addict sister has been calling nonstop, a cousin trying to catch me with instant messaging, and a high school friend (whose nephew is marrying my cousin's daughter) texting me.
I can't connect the places in my mind. I shut down. Very difficult to explain. I haven't talked to them in a year or so. It's not that I'm choosing to not talk to my mother; I CAN'T. When I try to think about it, I check out mentally.

It may help to know that for many years, anytime I've visited my family, she spent most time in bed, extremely unhappy, worrying about sister, etc. Very isolated. I managed to get her up and outside occasionally on my yearly visits, but the last time I was there, I got so down that I stayed in my bed there. There is a haunting component to this story.

Information and inspiration for the chronically ill (iatrogenically ill in our case here)

I added another tab at the top of the page. Thought I’d call attention to it. This one is for folks living with chronic illnesses of all kinds. I was struck physically ill from the brain-injury and systemic insult incurred by long-term and excessive (prescribed) psychiatric drug use and the subsequent withdrawal from the drugs (iatrogenesis). Many of my symptoms are like that of all sorts of auto-immune and other long-term chronic illness. (CFS, fibromyalgia, etc)

These are articles about learning to cope with being seriously ill and also learning to heal from such illness.

This is general information and/or personal information that has been helpful to me and may or may not apply at all to any particular given individual with whatever illness you may be coping with.

The tab and the drop down menu will be permanently at the top of the page, but for ease of use for the reader I share it below as well.

Tylenol Alleve Ibuprophen

I have come to realization that these three affect me. I made a small drop in dose last night 1/5th Celexa and took 1000mgs. tylenol for back pain. I woke with really bad anxiety and a feeling I can't explain.

I get this feeling from these drugs. I feel it in my head, stomach and an overall drugged type of feeling. And I have just realized that they exacerbate morning anxiety.

I take them for back pain. Alleve works the best.

Anyone else?

I am going to back up in dose again. Stay at the 1/5th drop I was doing and not push the envelope for a while.

Anxiety was very bad this morning. Really brings me down. It's the same mental chatter or story. "God please help, what am I doing with my life, please help me to move in the right direction, is this the right path" and so on and so on.

Full of self-doubt and fear. How do I get this to stop? I know I am the only one who can change it, but I don't know how.

Fisher Wallace Cranial Stimulator

This one is an obvious scam. It looks like a device for treating TENS. Supposedly, the FDA cleared it for treatment of anxiety and depression.

Naratriptan

Naratriptan

Hi

When I had been off seroxat for 1 year and 1 month I got a cold sore and used zorivax and this made me so much worse. It was my grandsons christening and I was desperate to get there so I had half a naratriptan, which I had been given by the doctor for migraines, even though I was on seroxat and have now read you should not combine the two, and it stopped the w/d symptoms.

I have just read up on this drug and it says

Naratriptan works by stimulating receptors called serotonin (or 5HT) receptors that are found in the brain. A natural substance called serotonin normally acts on these receptors, causing blood vessels in the brain to narrow. Naratriptan mimics this action of serotonin by directly stimulating the serotonin receptors in the brain. This narrows the blood vessels and so relieves the pain of migraine headaches.

If this drug stimulates the receptors would this be a good thing for us in w/d to get our receptors working normally again.

Adverse effects from 40mg Celexa

Alto I thought I'd post this here for anyone else who is here, or possibly a new member.

I was terrified to start a taper once again from an SSRI. Been there, done that and it was hellacious. There was always Protracted Withdrawal. I actually grieved the passage of time for taking (2) years to get off Lexapro.

Was feeling bad on Celexa. Came to this sight and discovered that 40mgs. is a large dose and a large dose could cause the symptoms I have been experiencing.

Foggy thinking - mental chatter (rapid thoughts) - tired - inability to concentrate - lack of joy - overall bad body feelings - not sleeping well and ABOVE ALL - ANXIETY - which this drug was supposed to help. It made it worse. Was unable to use recovery tools to turn my thinking around from doom and gloom to a more positive mindset.

So after being on the site for a few months and reading, posting, asking questions and deciding I just can't go on like this anymore I purchased the liquid + 10mg. tablets and began the taper.

Alto had to tutor me on mL and mgs.

I was a nervous wreck thinking about it, can you believe this.

I decided to take the smallest cut in dose the Oral Syringe is marked for which is 1/5mL.
That was 5 days ago.

There has been a reduction in my anxiety
My thoughts have slowed down
I can interrupt my fears and worries with positive thinking and journaling
I seem to be more accepting of taking life on life's terms
Can believe in a brighter future

I was shocked. The moral here is that we are being over medicated by the Pharmaceutical Companies. The doses are too high and can cause an adverse reaction.

Thank you Rhi for sharing that I would probably feel better lowering such a high dose.

So, onward with less fear. Small cuts are the way to go. I never could do the 10% reduction. I have become so sensitized from AD's.

Hugs everyone
