Administrator Altostrata Posted August 5, 2011 Administrator Share Posted August 5, 2011 People injured by pharmapsychiatry and seeking change often initially are discouraged by what appears to be the huge weight of society, pharmaceutical company money, indoctrinated doctors, and entrenched propaganda promoting the widespread use of psychiatric drugs. However, there are a number of organizations and many doctors and writers on the side of the angels. Join these organizations and add your voice and energy. In union there is strength. Eventually, the truth of patient injury will become known. MindFreedom International "25 Years Rethinking Psychiatry" Protects the rights of people who have been labeled with psychiatric disorders. The Icarus Project, a "network of people living with and/or affected by experiences that are often diagnosed and labeled as psychiatric conditions." Mind UK A patient-centric non-profit, "Mind helps people to take control over their mental health." International Society for Ethical Psychology and Psychiatry (ISEPP), an association mostly of psychotherapists, based in Los Angeles. Center for the Study of Empathic Therapy, Education & Living ISEPP was formerly Peter Breggin's ICSPP. In a schism, the founder left and started this organization. Law Project for Psychiatric Rights There are many independently minded doctors: David Healy, Joseph Glenmullen, and Peter Breggin and Marcia Angell, all book authors. The authors of the blogs 1boringoldman and Thought Broadcast. Blogs by doctors critical of psychiatry Doctors who will diagnose drug withdrawal Dr. Mark Foster, who is thinking about opening up a psych drug withdrawal clinic (we have a number of topics about him on SA). He has started a foundation, ClearMinds Inc., which has a Facebook page. There are courageous writers: Robert Whitaker, Allison Bass, and Christopher Lane, all of whom have blogs. Robert Whitaker's recent book "Anatomy of an Epidemic: Magic Bullets, Psychiatric Drugs, and the Astonishing Rise of Mental Illness in America" has been called the "Silent Spring" of psychiatry. His blog on Psychology Today, Mad in America, is a must-read. There are many patient Web sites, forums, and blogs. Add your favorites to this topic! This is not medical advice.
