Thanks Frogie, although my guts seemed to have settled down now - NO PAIN!!  Thank God!!!  I really think it might have been down to stressful Christmas period, rich food, AND then the addition of a new probiotic.

I'm really sorry that the nausea hasn't let up for you.  I wonder if you could try something like hypnotherapy???  I know you live in a remote area, but could that be an option for you?

OK, so seeing the homeopath was an experience.

I have to take one of the remedy pills tomorrow and keep it under my tongue.

She mentioned peeling off each layer like an onion skin.  And each layer gets a different homeopathic treatment.

She said that my condition was "chronic" and that my body had turned on itself, basically "autoimmune".

My next appointment is in a weeks time.

Hi Frogie,

I was given a remedy called ACONITE.

This is what I found written up on it:

"Practitioners of homeopathic remedies generally think of recommending Aconite (Aconitum napellus) for patients who are emotional or nervous, normally in their pink of health and very robust, but fall ill very easily and fast, while showing signs of a noticeable depletion of their strength. They endure physical as well as mental symptoms that are akin to a big storm that takes place all of a sudden, but also caves in hurriedly. Their behaviour pattern is marked by extreme fright, nervousness and restiveness accompanied by vulnerability to severe irrational phobias, fear of death as well as bouts of panic.

In most cases, the physical symptoms of individuals requiring the homeopathic remedy Aconite occur following any shock, fright or when they come in contact with dry winds, cold and other such things. Sometimes, intense weather conditions are also responsible for the physical conditions endured by such people. Aconite is effective in treating severe infections, for instance colds and coughs, especially when they are just beginning. In addition, Aconite is also recommended for treating conditions of anxiety as well as for mothers as well as babies during or soon after childbirth."

It was a tiny tiny pill I had to leave under my tongue.

Note to self:

ONE OF THE main reasons depression is often considered a disease is because of the all-too-real physical effects of depression suffered by depressed people.

These physical signs help us to complete the loop, or cycle of depression that puzzles both sufferers and those closest to them as to why it's so hard to break the cycle or "snap out of it".

How we deal with the emotional arousal caused by depressive thinking is what ends up making us more exhausted, and therefore less able to cope - the over-dreaming we talked about in the last part of the Depression Learning Path.)

What is significant in the physical signs of depression amongst sufferers is:

  • The overwhelming amount of sufferers that are chronically fatigued.
  • The increase of physical aches and pains that have no apparent source.
  • Depression sufferers' increased susceptibility to disease.

Being depressed can feel like a physical disorder because it is so exhausting, and because it can actually hurt.

Depression is bad for you

During deep sleep, our bodies immune system is under repair. Lack of deep sleep is common amongst depression sufferers due to the excessive time spent in REM. Without this time to repair, our immune system is weakened, making us more susceptible to disease.

In addition, a sustained increase in stress hormones actually suppresses the immune system.

Depression, serotonin and pain

Depression and the neurochemical serotonin are now strongly linked in most peoples' minds, especially since the advent of SSRIs - the most famous being Prozac - which are widely thought to work by blocking the re-uptake of serotonin from the releasing neuron.

(The big mistake here is assuming that lack of serotonin causes depression, and therefore drugs are the long-term answer. It's like saying that you need drugs because you are hungry, rather than just eating.)

If an episode of depression causes a change in your serotonin level, this can have an effect on your pain threshold too. Because serotonin helps keep 'pain gates' closed, a lack of it can make you feel more pain. (Back pain is very common amongst depression sufferers).

Serotonin also helps modulate sleep, which is another explanation for the sleep disturbance encountered by those with depression.

So this also explains why people can get such immediate relief from drugs - serotonin is so strongly involved in sleep regulation, pain perception and mood that an increase can have a huge effect. The danger of course, is becoming dependent on drugs instead of tackling the root cause of the depression.

And also, all anti-depressants work by suppressing REM sleep, which as you now know, will lift depression. Again, however, this is treating a symptom, not the cause.

The cause is the emotional introspection done by depressed people, and the key place to start reducing that is with your thinking styles...

Eczema is all over my upper body: face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, chest and boobs.

This is the worst I have EVER had it in my life.....its never been this rampant before.

Trying to keep in mind that this is actually a "good thing", according to my homeopath.  That my body is trying to heal itself from inside out.

Didn't sleep well last night due to itching and feeling too hot.

TOTM arrived today.

Hi JC:

That's really interesting to read about.

I hope it helps you. Let me know how it goes. :)

JC.  You've tried coconut oil ?  Or Aloe Vera ?  That is all that I can think of apart from the usual boring " TIME ".

Many SSRI's and SSNRI's over 20 years. Zoloft for 7 years followed by Effexor, Lexapro, Prozac, Cymbalta, Celexa, Pristiq, Valdoxan, Mianserin and more - on and off. No tapering. Cold turkey off Valdoxan - end of May 2014

Oh Dear poor you - a big breakout like that is hard to cope with. Hope the pill from the homeopath didn't cause you any side effects in this way.

I know it is not the same and not as bad a eczema but I suffer with prickly heat when it's hot through the summer months here. I get a cooling aloe vera gel from Holland and Barrett which stops the aggravation immediately and you can use it as often as needed. Wondering whether you have tried this?

Thanks for visiting my thread JC. I will let you know how things go with the psychologist on Tuesday. I get travel anxiety if I am going to leave the country so hope she can help with this.

Take care

Ali,

No, I haven't tried either of those, even though I keep seeing the coconut oil at the supermarket.

I picked up yet more emolient today and more emolient shower stuff from the pharmacy today (prescribed), but that isn't really keeping the eczema "calm" any more now :(.

Think I'm going to cancel the spa day now as cannot  enjoy bathing pools in this state.

Thanks for the tips Ali.

Hi Flowers,

Thanks for stopping by :)

The homeopath said the eczema would get worse before it got better.  Its a kind of "outpouring" where the body is trying to heal itself from within.  Its a hard concept to grasp when its so itchy, sore and painful all the time.

It also hard putting one's faith in a different kind of treatment......still desparate times etc.,  The homeopath said that her treatment is "holistic", whereas a doctor's treatment only focuses on a specific thing rathet than the body as a whole.

Thank you for the Aloe Vera tip...AliG mentioned that aswell.  I think I'll try that out first followed by the coconut oil.  Don't have enough room for all this stuff in my medicine cabinet. lol.  Maybe its time to take over one of the kitchen cupboards?!!

Flowers, you're not the only one who gets travel anxiety....I get travel anxiety driving within the UK!!  Car journeys give me IBS and I have to have frequent pee stops.

Looking forward to hearing about your appt on Tues....hope it goes well and that you find that its right for you.

Take care,

It definitely is Ali.  THANK YOU for the article.

Eczema is insufferable, and I'm struggling to treat the sheer quantity of it now.   The emolient is supposed to be slapped on x5/day just to keep the skin calm and moisterised.

I think what triggered this mega-outbreak was my father's deteriorated state of health and also my MIL's horrible behaviour over Christmas.

Ughhhhh!

Aloe vera is high in salicylates. If you have an allergy to aspirin (generic = acetylsaliclyic acid), you'd be best to avoid it. I've been informed that people with fibromyalgia are sensitive to salicylates; so if fibro is a possible concern, avoid aloe vera.

If you find the aloe vera doesn't work for your eczema, it doesn't have to sit around in your cabinet.  You can use it as a light moisturizer, hair gel, shaving gel, and sunburn treatment. I use it now on my scalp to calm the itchiness I sometimes get.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

Take care

Take care,

JC xxx

Holland and Barrett do a tube small enough to go in a medium sized handbag and a little goes a long way! You can apply it as and when needed and won't take up more room in your medicine cabinet!! AliG's tip re coconut oil might be worth a try. I have heard it is amazing stuff for a lot of problems.

I have a fairly open mind regarding alternative medicine - look where the regular Dr's got us?!!! I hope the homeopathic treatment is a success for you.

Good job you and I aren't going on a trip together then! We would be a recipe for disaster with both of us suffering travel anxiety!!lol!

Its true, doctors suck!

I think its the just the cumulative cost of all the additional healthcare that grates the most.  Thanking my lucky stars that hubby is ok with me having all this extra stuff.  God willing the MIL actually does help out with it all.

Anyway, off topic....

Ughhhhh!

Hi JC:

Hopefully it will clear up soon.

I wish you all the best. Try to think happy thoughts. I know it's hard, but I do try. :)

Take care,

Frogie xx

PREVIOUS medications and discontinuations: Have been on medications since 1996.

Valium, Gabapentin, Lamictal, Prilosec and Zantac from 2000 to 2015 with a fast taper by a psychiatrist.

Liquid Lexapro Nov, 2016 to 31-March, 2019 Lexapro free!!! (total Lexapro taper was 4 years-started with pill form)

---CURRENT MEDICATIONS:Supplements:Milk Thistle, Metamucil, Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin D3, Levothyroxine 25mcg, Vitamin C, Krill oil.

Xanax 1mg 3x day June, 2000 to 19-September, 2020 Went from .150 grams (average weight of 1 Xanax) 3x day to .003 grams 3x day. April 1, 2021 went back on 1mg a day. Started tapering May 19, 2023. July 28, 2023-approximately .87mg. Dr. fast tapered me at the end and realized he messed up. Prescribe it again and I am doing "slower than a turtle" taper.

19-September, 2020 Xanax free!!! (total Xanax taper was 15-1/2 months-1-June, 2019-19-September, 2020)

If you find the Aloe Vera successful at all , you can grow it . I have it growing. Break it off and it's the " real thing " . So easy to grow , you can put it on your face as a moisturizer . LOL. You can even put it in your smoothies. So great !

Woke up crying early hours of the morning about Dad. Hubby was so comforting.

He hasn't emailed in 3 weeks, since his "glitch" / further deterioration in Parkinsonism condition.

I think in the last emails he was almost trying to say goodbye.

The saddest thing is how angry I have been with him for all these years, knowing the mess my folks had made financially, and now their fast declining health, and my mother's death wish if Dad dies.

I knew this horrible dilemma has been on the cards for some time.....it ate me up further contributing to my breakdown.

So sorry you are in this sad and stressful situation.

Have you had a chance to make your peace with your Dad? Is he well enough to have a telephone chat? Maybe write a letter to him? I don't know how far you are away to visit?

Thinking of you.

Thank you so much Flowers, I really appreciate the support.

It's a very horrible "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. I knew it was coming, which only made my state of mind (when we were still in Canada) worse.

I was unable to forgive and reach acceptance.

This is the cause of my horrendous eczema outbreak.

Will have to do something before it's too late.

JC - I think you would be surprised how many people have issues with their parents. Of course I don't know the full story but as I got older I started to think that they are just people trying to do their best just like us. No one is perfect. Somethings we have to let go or they will be to the detriment of our own health.

You have your whole life ahead of you.

JC.  You've tried coconut oil ?  Or Aloe Vera ?  That is all that I can think of apart from the usual boring " TIME ".

Ali,

I bought a couple of tubs of coconut oil (100% pure) very cheaply at the supermarket......am finding it difficult to apply though.  Its quite solid??

Any tips for softening it up?  its sitting on top of the radiator at the moment.

Put some on my face, arm and decaulte, and no reaction so far.  It felt cool to begin with.

Ughhhhh!

Hi JC:

Hopefully it will clear up soon.

I wish you all the best. Try to think happy thoughts. I know it's hard, but I do try. :)

Take care,

Frogie xx

Frogie,

Its very hard to think positive when people are staring at you because your face is covered in bright red blotches :(

Hey ho.

At least I managed to get the coconut oil cheaply.

Hope you're ok....still nauseous?  Silly question I guess.

Take care,

JC xxx

It definitely is Ali. THANK YOU for the article.

Eczema is insufferable, and I'm struggling to treat the sheer quantity of it now. The emolient is supposed to be slapped on x5/day just to keep the skin calm and moisterised.

I think what triggered this mega-outbreak was my father's deteriorated state of health and also my MIL's horrible behaviour over Christmas.

Ughhhhh!

Take care,

JC xxx

Hi JC:

I'm sure it is hard when people stare at you. I have these big brown blotches on my neck so I can relate.

If I'm in a "frisky" mood, I'll just come out and ask them what they are staring at. Usually they run away as fast as they can. I just laugh.

About your dad, I really think he doesn't know what he is doing or thinking. He's probably very scared himself. Why don't you email him and just say hey how ya doin'? Maybe it will brake the ice and he will respond.

Hang in there. Hopefully the coconut oil will work. :)

Take care,

Frogie xx

JC - I think you would be surprised how many people have issues with their parents. Of course I don't know the full story but as I got older I started to think that they are just people trying to do their best just like us. No one is perfect. Somethings we have to let go or they will be to the detriment of our own health.

You have your whole life ahead of you.

Flowers,

My folks were loaded, and blew it all on unrealistic dreams.  They led a glamorous life and to the full.  They made  A LOT of bad decisions which impacted my life and made me very ill (still am).

Its a very tough pill to swallow, and still is :(

Hi Frogie,

He has permanent computer issues (he has forgotten how to work the computer and keeps forgetting as his short term memory has gone).

Also, he just rang me, and has likely forgotten to ring back like he said he would. I only just saw my parents over Christmas and there was no falling out....just a very sad situation.

Yup, gotta to get used to being stared at I guess for looking like a freak.

Not in best frame of mind due to TOTM, so forgive me if I seem abrupt.

Hi JC:

You're not abrupt at all. I understand.

You are not a freak. People just like to stare. Ask them if they can help you find something to get rid of this, and watch them. But sometimes I just like to mess with people.

It's hard to see parents like that. You are lucky that you still talk. Before my parents passed, both their spouses wouldn't let me talk to them or see them, that was tough. I couldn't go to their house they would have me arrested for trespassing. But it all comes back three fold, karma, that's how I feel. You might have to call him and just say hi.

The worst part is, I'm an only child.

Take care,

Frogie xx

Make up a good and totally outlandish story for when people stare.  The work I've done all my life has left my arms and hands covered with lots of scars, some with rather interesting shapes.  The pairs of round ones have become from snake bites in the Amazon.  The square one is from where I had to cut out the tracking chip Aliens implanted in me.  If you tell the story right you can really play with peoples minds and totally disarm the situation.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017
