Hey guys!

Things, again, were going great for a while. Then I had a very very very stressful month and things have been a bit numb again. Performance is still great, but the actual beginning and end feeling aren't so great. Hoping it swings (no pun intended) back around again soon.

2006 -2009 Lexapro
March 2010 Off Lexapro on Zyprexa  - November 2010 off Zyprexa
Off ALL MEDICATION -Jan 22nd 2011

Well I made it about 10 years medication free. I was doing really well, and my PSSD while on and off was basically a non issue.

2021-22 Mirtazipine for 5 months , Off of meds for 2 months, On mirtazpiine for a month, Off. for 2 weeks, On Wellbutrin + lithium, Off meds for 3 weeks

2023 On vibbyrd for 1 week, On zyprexa for one month, Off, On Remeron for 2 weeks , Now Off meds.

The PSSD is back. I am worried it is now totally permanent. I had to go on medication as I would have comitted suicide, but now I have adjusted to the Tinnitus and desperately am hoping for the PSSD to resolve again. But I am worried it cannot after I bombarded myself with medications again. I hope to god I am wrong.

Hey brian,

How long you've been taking Ads?

Have you ever experienced soft gland syndrome?

How are you feeling now regarding arousal and pleasure?

Thank you

1. That information is in my signature as well as well documented across my posts.

2. I haven't

3. You can read this entire thread and I think that will answer your questions.

I'm curious as to your anhedonia.

I'm eight months med free.

I was only on 3 mg of risperdal for about four months and anhedonia set in while I was taking it. It's the main reason I went off the drug as I could not stand not being able to feel anything.

I understand the meds you were on are different and you were on them for a greater length of time....but could you maybe explain the process/progress of your anhedonia?

This is the worst feeling in the world, I feel like a soul-less shell of a human.

My libido is low too, but I imagine that has a lot to do with a lack of emotions.

Risperidone (Risperdal)-3mg from May 2016-Sept.

I'm on your coat tails here Under Pressure,

I second the motion Branyan.

Can you expand on the anhedonia side of things? what was the dissipation like? did you get windows or was it all of a sudden etc, etc, etc...were you soulless for a long stretch...?

Cheers

late July...lexapro 10 seroquel 25.....due to mild depression......adverse reaction, suicidal thoughts, hospitalization

August....felt that meds were ripping stomach apart....docs didn't believe me..upped meds to seroquel 125, lexapro 20, mirtazapine 30, olanzapine 20....stayed on these drugs unitl mid november......severe anhedonia all the time...mid novemeber 2016 , began taper.....very small windows of emotion...Christmas....off everything by Christmas day......last six weeks, cried and laughed on a number of occasions for first time since taking initial meds....8 occasions of strong emotion over 6 weeks in ealry 2016.......doubting recovery......

BIG WINDOW IN july 2017, felt incredible, lasted a month or so, felt close to recovered...window left, september to Chrimstas 17 was anhedonic hell.....Turn of the year, January 2018, some very strong days (a window) offering renewed hope

back to hell until late February 2018, strong 10 day window....followed by anhedonic wave for 7 months straight! not a flicker of normalcy

September 2018 ...incredible window...followed by three month wave.January 2019.... a strong window

window subsided, but new baseline was higher.....life since January 2019 ( 9 months and counting) has been far better. Complete anhedonia is gone!! God, I've tears writing that. I am far from recovered, but far from hell...to use a scale, if life is rated out of a hundred, I was about minus 50 for the majority of 2 years..I know feel about 30 per cent of self, experiences intermittent flickers of normal life regularly....My days have more quality and I am optimistic of recovery.

what you mean by being numb? Is it like having your genitals cold and not enough bloodflow in there?

Things were going pretty great in the month of May/June. Possibly the best in the 7 years since PSSD began. It was the most effortless erections, orgasms, etc. Now after a couple of really stressful months it's kind of bad again. So heres to hoping that changes again soon.

Hi Bobo. I am not 100% healed. I have explained that many many times in this post. I have also answered your second question many many times. I am sorry to be blunt, but I am a bit tired of repeating myself in that regard. As I have said before, and if you take the time to read my posts, even 7 years out things are still fluctuating. I am sorry you are suffering, and i truly wish you the best.

Hey guys! Brunyan here from the old PP forums. I haven't written in any SSRI or related forum in almost 2 years now. The reason being? Things for the most part have been pretty damn great. My actual life is great. I have a great career started. I am finally independent and financially stable. I've had a couple of short relationships in between now and when Paxil Progress ended. During that sexual relationship I almost NEVER had one problem. Not only that, things were pretty freaking great in that department. I never had any problems getting it up, and sex was frequent and very good.

Now there is still some of the genital numbness, and spotty libido, but was scarcely a worry.

So. fast forward. We broke up. Not the right time in our lives, etc etc blah blah.

Now the libido and functioning goes right back down to nothing good. This has been the pattern in the post SSRI/PSSD world for almost 5-6 years now. In the relationship things work great. Outside of that relationship, even when by myself things just dont feel very good.

I realize how lucky I am. I'm grateful to have what I have. I'm so lucky. I'm not even really complaining. I just kind of needed to vent because its kind of scary. And in the past the one habit I've made is obsessively trying to hook up with girls or look at porn to keep testing if things are working. And I want to be a lone for a while and do some more soul searching.

The last girl i was with I was very upfront about the PSSD stuff, and we took our time to get to sex and that made all the difference. I cannot discount the emotional and psychological part of it. It's almost as if the PSSD has made those components so strong that I am now 'demi-sexual".

If you look that up it basically means you can't be aroused without an emotional connection..

I've got a lot of work to do in therapy to deal with this. I need to listen to my rational mind and not the fearful part. I can do this.

I'm of course open to any and all questions as I know that my story has been used as a success story for many people fearful of PSSD around the internet.

Hey Brunyan! Thanks for sharing your experiences. How are things going?

Do you still experience soft glans or penile atrophy?

Best greets

Hi,

im new to this site and find your updates so helpful! I'm a female with pssd and it's awful. I'm hoping for recovery myself but my issues started when I first went on the drug not when I was coming off. Not sure if that makes a difference to recovery but I'm staying hopeful...I'm coming up to the 3 year mark though.

glad to hear you are feeling better at the moment :)

I’m alive and well! Save for a few moments here and there over the last couple years, I’ve been pretty much feeling healed. But really what that means to me is, sexual stuff is almost never a problem. And the normal that I understand now is something I’m happy with.

In other words I don’t think things will ever be like I was before ending SSRI use, but I remember more of what it feels like to feel good now, then I did before it before it.  Most of that trauma, both physically, and especially mentally is gone.

I’m happily married now, and like most of us schmucks, I’m just trying to be the best person I can be. I live my life the best I know how.

So just like that I’ve gone through a very depressive episode which I often do this time of year and the sex drive has felt basically zero. I’ve had a few good experiences here and there (since my last post) but definitely feeling a bit down about things! Hopefully when the good weather comes out things will turn around.

I'm experiencing similar patterns, a year and a half out from Zoloft and it's super useful to have a reference point to help me understand my experience better.

My pleasure man. I know when I started to get off the drugs I NEEDED stories like this.

Hi,

im new to this site and find your updates so helpful!

Abc my story is similar to yours, have you had any improvements?

This thread has given me hope, glad you’re feeling much better after all this time branyan. Thank you :)

Sertaline (Zoloft)

25mg increased to 50mg after 2-3 weeks

Mid Oct 2016 - Mid Dec 2016

I also took Propranalol as and when/on and off from 2012 to 2016

In other words I don’t think things will ever be like I was before ending SSRI use, but I remember more of what it feels like to feel good now, then I did before it before it.  Most of that trauma, both physically, and especially mentally is gone.

Hi Branyan.. I just wonder what you mean about this part? “I don’t think things will ever be like I was before ending SSRI use”

Did you mean before starting SSRI’s?.. or do you mean things were great when on SSRI’s. I’m guessing you came off SSRI’s because of sexual problems? I was on citalopram for 5 years and the last year of it I started getting the sexual problems so I came off it (once I realised it was the SSRI)

Cheers

Mirtazapine 2009 - 1.5 years

Citalopram 2011-2018

Testosterone replacement therapy 2018 - present

Hi!

I haven't been here in a long time because I've been busy doing well and living life. I get a lot of questions like these from time to time and I don't feel like the state you are in can phrase the question in a way that will make you happy.

What I mean is it is unrealistic to expect anything to not bother you had any given moment, or expect 100% recovery of every single thing. We have human bodies that are very complex and go through very complex changes that can be very difficult to us. In fact I'm going through some complex changes right now unrelated to PSSD that are very bothersome to me that I'm working through, and I know I will conquer.

To answer your question more directly, I have an incredible sex life that I enjoy very much that is pleasurable both emotionally, mentally, and physically. I experience good libido, and I have a very functional sex life that makes me very happy. Beyond that I don't think about it at all anymore. I don't think about percentages, or how good or bad it is, or the percentage of feeling or erection or anything like that. Things just work for me in my life and I am happy.

And in response to anybody that wants to know what it looks like to heal, that is how I would quantify it. Becoming healed and recovered means that you are happy with your life and it doesn't bother you anymore. And that can look a lot of different ways to a lot of different people. Once you remove the obsession of looking at things in a very specific way, you remove barriers to your happiness.

Perhaps this was easy for me to say considering I am doing well with this specific aspect of my life. But remember from 2010 through 2012 I was suicidal about this issue. I would also say that trying to live my life and develop intimate relationships (despite my issues) came before improvements. It wasn't until I tried to connect emotionally with people (and this was hard as as post SSRI I had very stunted emotions) that my brain begin to rewire (science would call this Neuro-plasticity). I feel like I had to rewire my brain. At first with women things did not work at all and I had to be very patient. But after a while things begin to work. On and off at first, then more consistently. From 2013 to 16 it was difficult but workable. And once I became married in 2018 it became a non-issue.

Bonjour comment vas-tu @branyan?

Hi how are you @branyan? I have a question do you have premature ejaculation when you stop taking antidepressants? If so, has it resolved over time? I'm a month off and my erection is coming back even though I have much less libido than before and a pleasureless orgasm. As well as no or little erection in the morning and my penis has shrunk a bit. What really bothers me is the premature ejaculation

Hello everyone, I was on seroplex 10mg in October 2019 for over a year and then on brintellix from March to September for maybe 8 months. I made several attempts to stop abruptly then I resumed the treatment of brintellix recently for a few weeks because it was too difficult to stop.

Symptom when stopped: premature ejaculation, ejaculation with less orgasm. Severe insomnia, transient headaches, sensitivity to noise and light.

Last intake of brintellix 5mg: Saturday, September 11, 2021
