Legal Journal Says Antidepressants Can Cause Violence and Suicide   April 18, 2016

Antidepressants have been reported to cause a state called “akathisia,” where people feel extremely agitated and restless and may become preoccupied with thoughts of violence. In a new article, to be published in the latest issue of the Journal of Forensic and Legal Medicine, researchers investigate the role of antidepressants in three recent murders.

The researchers, a medical specialist and a forensic psychiatrist and pharmacogeneticist, suggest that tests may be done to assess the role of antidepressant toxicity in violent events that may affect legal determinations, potentially even absolving people charged with homicide.

The “new generation” antidepressants, SSRIs and SNRIs, appeared in the 1980s but, according to the reviewers, “their adverse effects and clinical trial data have not been fully disclosed.” In 2004, the FDA published a public health advisory warning of worsening depression and suicidality in some patients being treated with antidepressants. In 2007, a Black Box suicide warning was extended from just teenagers and suggested monitoring all patients up to age 24 for anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, hostility, impulsivity, and akathisia.

Recent findings show an increased risk for violent crime in young adults taking antidepressants and a groundbreaking reanalysis of the infamous Study 329 on the effects of Paxil on teens found a heightened risk for suicide that was not initially disclosed by the drug companies.

The authors report that genetic variations in metabolism affect how individuals react to antidepressants and that research indicated that “ultra-rapid metabolizers” may be at an increased risk for changes in behavior.

Akathisia!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joseph Glenmullen Antidepressant Press Conference Part 2

Uploaded on 24 Dec 2011

Part 2 - Dr. Joseph Glenmullen speaking at a Press Conference prior to the 2006 FDA Advisory Committee Public Hearing on the connection between antidepressants and suicidal thoughts and actions. The press conference was put together by the family of Woody Witczak. In this clip, Dr. Glenmullen discusses a side effect called akathisia. I shot this clip while in Washington DC working on my documentary, NUMB.

Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Thanks for the videos btdt.  I will have to watch them another time though, not enough time right now.

Something just occurred to me--I swear I read that people who had the greatest difficulty with the drugs were the "non-metabolizer" group, I have it in my mind that they react the worst because they don't have the genes to code for enzyme pathways to digest them properly, and because of that the drugs build up and cause toxicity.  So I'm not following their emphasis on rapid metabolizers..I don't suppose anyone here knows if it's not true that "non-metabolizers" also have difficulties with them?

(Alto, are you around?)

I think what I read was the plasticity was the issue... as the brain changes completely so has further to go to change back... too adaptable.

as for metabolising the fast metabolisers would be toxic before the non metabolisers as more drug would go into the system and blow fuses... is my take on it...

What blew me away about the video was that the drug companies were told by the fda to do studies thirty years ago and never did them and got away with it...

and

that the year after or the same year I was started on prozac they knew these bad reactions could happen they have known it was possible since before then...

For some reason this just adds insult to injury... not only hurt but even more pissed about it all if that is possible.

After watching him in action I think Glenmullen would be the perfect guy to do further study on these meds like he says if the vaults were ever open he could talk about all the studies he knows exist but can't speak of as they are locked up... what a bunch of crap...

please watch the videos they will set  you mind straight on how the drug companies knew all along They are actually really short

Personally i think the risk of 'changes in  behavior' is not limited to rapid metabolizers its exists for ALL metabolizers.

None of the published articles shed light on what ssri's ... actually do or what their hazards might be. Healy 2013.

This is so true, with anything you get on these drugs, dependance, tapering, withdrawal symptoms, side effects, just silent. And if there is something mentioned then their is a serious disconnect between what is said and reality!

Over two decades later, the number of antidepressant prescriptions a year is slightly more than the number of people in the Western world. Most (nine out of 10) prescriptions are for patients who faced difficulties on stopping, equating to about a tenth of the population. These patients are often advised to continue treatment because their difficulties indicate they need ongoing treatment, just as a person with diabetes needs insulin. Healy 2015

Wow btdt that is one fantastic testimony from Glenmullen. (part 2 ). thanks for that.

Gosh this is the first time i have seen or heard him talk.

I was so impressed by the way he stayed so calm when talking about such deadly criminal perpetrators. Great post.

Love it when says   "It is a crime"!  Sadly unless one has experienced it you couldnt ever conceive of it.

And we have mental health organisations in my country saying it is not proven that ssris are unsafe for children...in 2016 that also is  a crime.

Hey why not have a separate post for this stuff. I think i need to put this in my intro.

you can put it wherever you want... feel free

but it deserves to be here too I think

can't get enough of the truth is my point

What got me was he said they have known this since the 60's it is nothing new and he knows it when he sees it... well not every doctor does I will tell you that for sure. I did not know the FDA ordered pharma to do studies they never did.. and tho he says there was a shitstorm of media in 1990 about this I don't recall hearing a word... but I could have been chasing prozac demons and too out of it to hear the news... or it was not in my country maybe it did not make the news here.

I know school kids here are given these drugs everyday I can't think on that too much as it makes me crazy... really crazy
