Taurus9: Delayed withdrawal symptoms for Celexa, Wellbutrin

What a great forum! So glad it and you all are here.

About 2 months ago I tapered down on Celexa from 10mg a day to 5mg. Symptoms were standard..nausea, some fatigue, anxiety, etc. but bearable. I also stopped Wellbutrin XL 150mg. Seemed fine.

The past two weeks, however, have been just plain gross. I am still on 5mg of celexa, but I am feeling out of it, dizzy, restless, insomnia. I just have never heard of withdrawal symptoms being so delayed.

Any ideas or comments are appreciated.

SInce end of April, 0mg Citalopram Hydrobromide, tapered from 5mg Citralopram
December 2016 tapered from 10mg Citralopram and 150mg of Wellbutrin XL

Hi, I had the same thing happen when I cold turkeyed off Wellbutrin and it lasted a month and then I went back on and it took another month for it to go away. Does the dizziness actually happen when you stand up or is it constant? If it happens only when you stand up it's probably caused by your sleep deprivation. In my experience, that dizziness when you stand up, which is refered to as orthostatic hypotension, can happen when you are really sleep deprived and exhausted.

Hi Taurus , welcome to the site. I moved your post in Tapering to make your own personal Introduction thread.

If you click FOLLOW at the top right , you'll receive an email each time someone posts.

You're having symptoms from tapering too fast.

We recommend drops of no more than 10% every 4 to 6 weeks to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Doing a 50%

drop sets you up for disaster.

Additionally , ceasing Wellbutrin XL 150mg will have the same effect. It's not at all unusual for new

symptoms to present around the 2 to 3 months off mark. I'm going to suggest some links to read that will

help you understand what's going on.

Protracted Withdrawal or PAWS (post-acute withdrawal syndrome) how long does it last? http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/509-protracted-withdrawal-or-paws-post-acute-withdrawal-syndrome-how-long-does-it-last/

About reinstating and stabilizing to reduce withdrawal symptoms http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/7562-about-reinstating-and-stabilizing-to-reduce-withdrawal-symptoms/

The quickest way out of this is to reinstate or updose to try and compensate for what your brain is missing.

We need more information to work out what's needed , wellbutrin or an increase in celexa.

Please could you fill out your signature with dates and dosages releant to your drug history.

I am trying to find an old post about delayed withdrawal that I can send to you.  I can't recall the title but it should have delayed withdrawal in the title.  Since I have spent most of my life on drugs or in withdrawal from various antidepressants I made post covering all the different experiences I has with delayed withdrawal and all the things I was told it was... other than delayed withdrawal.

The length of times and specific drugs caused different experiences of delayed withdrawal for me it was a well put together post that took a lot of effort.  I have asked for help to find it and if I get the help and find it I will post the link here.

Delayed withdrawal is a very real thing that can happen at any point after stopping drugs I have watched this phenomenon for years on various sites and it has become so common to me I doubt those who say they quit the drugs and had no wd.  At hat point I say come back when you have been off the drugs a year and if your still fine I will buy it.  Some things seem to change how the delay pans out... type of drug and your past drug use along with how your body metabolizes the drug health of your live brain ect.... these things I suspect but of course there is not study to prove any of it... who would pay for it.

One of the things that clued people into delayed withdrawal started when people were taking the drugs for non psych reasons and when they stopped the drug they would have phsych issues along with others when they had been off some wks or months... since they did not have any of these issues before the drugs it could not be said that they were having another bout of the original symptom if the original symptoms was say pain... nope they were having withdrawal.  Being told you have a new psych issue like bi polar or you name it really anxiety if you took the drug for depression for instance is one trap that kept people drugs years longer then they should have been.  Mind you a lot of people including me fell for it because we did not know any better and believed the doctors ... plus we could not function in wd and could still take the pills to stop the wd....

I personally wonder if I would still be drugged now had I not started having such side effects from the drugs that using them became a health issue. Many are still learning the hard way  but at least not all are leaning that way.

Just a brief synapse of what happens to help you along with your delayed withdrawal questions.

wishing you peace

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Irvingkirsch, thank you so much for taking the time to reply. It is not so much dizziness as it is lightheadedness. Kind of a full, pressure feeling in my head. It is not constant and definitely is worse when my sleep is less than stellar. The fatigue is just a killer. By the time I get home I am out of it.

Wow! This is perfect. I started to think this "could" not be the case...but...as with many AD stuff...it is all just fun and games and guessing. I really appreciate it and I am looking for the post you mentioned.

I agree, the side effects make me question everything, but I am trying to keep the peace.

Fresh, thank you. I had no idea that symptoms could just pop up after a good amount of WD free time. I am rethinking my taper to be a bit easier. I am giving myself a few more days to see how I either stabilize or destabilize.

I have checked there is no response yet...

I do a lot of posting and often cannot find the posts... it is annoying to say the least I should make a file for my post here and copy them or print them so I can have them when I need them.

I will post a link if it comes...
