Hi,

 

I am helping a distraught friend right now and need someone's help. She has been on Amitriptyline for 30 days (just 5 mg.) and wants to know how quickly she can taper off of it. She is also going through benzo withdrawal and is very sensitive to all meds.

30 days is about the limit for quickly going off a psychiatric drug. If I were your friend, I would cut my dosage by 25% a week to go off. Stop reducing if ANY withdrawal symptoms show up.

 

Please do not cold turkey.

 

It might be best if your friend joined SurvivingAntidepressants.org so she could tell us how she's doing.
