Linak: Lexapro

Hi, I'm currently tapering of lexapro and I'm new to the group! I started by doing what my doctor told
Me to do but soon after I found out about this website. I just got the liquid lexapro today and I'm a little nervous about it. Is it the same? Is 5 mg= 5ml. I'm just a little nervous!

I'm pretty sure it's a 1:1 ratio.

What did your dr tell you to taper?

I'm just curious. Thanks...

PREVIOUS medications and discontinuations: Have been on medications since 1996.

Valium, Gabapentin, Lamictal, Prilosec and Zantac from 2000 to 2015 with a fast taper by a psychiatrist.

Liquid Lexapro Nov, 2016 to 31-March, 2019 Lexapro free!!! (total Lexapro taper was 4 years-started with pill form)

---CURRENT MEDICATIONS:Supplements:Milk Thistle, Metamucil, Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin D3, Levothyroxine 25mcg, Vitamin C, Krill oil.

Xanax 1mg 3x day June, 2000 to 19-September, 2020 Went from .150 grams (average weight of 1 Xanax) 3x day to .003 grams 3x day. April 1, 2021 went back on 1mg a day. Started tapering May 19, 2023. July 28, 2023-approximately .87mg. Dr. fast tapered me at the end and realized he messed up. Prescribe it again and I am doing "slower than a turtle" taper.

19-September, 2020 Xanax free!!! (total Xanax taper was 15-1/2 months-1-June, 2019-19-September, 2020)

I am not a medical professional.

The suggestions I make are based on personal experience.

Hi Linak, and welcome to SA,

It great that you have found this site.  There is a lot of excellent information and support to be had here.

I've created your own Intro/Update topic and you can ask questions here and journal your progress.  Click "Follow" top right and you will be notified when someone responds.

We ask all members when they join SA to Please put your Withdrawal History in Signature.  Please include ALL DRUGS.  Details for the last 12-18 months and a summary of anything prior helps us to make suggestions based on your individual situation.  Please list drug/s, date/s, dose/s and how you decreased/increased.  Please remember to update your signature when you make a change so it remains current.

Found this info in Post #1 of Tips for tapering off Lexapro (escitalopram)

Titrating using liquid formulation
Using the liquid form is the best way to control the amount of each decrease. The US formulation provides 5 mg per 5 mL (amounting to 1mg of the medication in a milliliter of the liquid, or 1mg:1mL).

I'm going to list some links which I suggest you check out:

Before you begin tapering what you need to know

Why taper by 10% of my dosage?

These helped me to understand SA's 10% taper of the previous dose followed by a 4-6 week holding period to allow the brain to adapt to not getting as much of the drug:

Brain Remodelling (Rhi's Description of Brain Healing)

Once we have more details, we will be better able to offer suggestions.
