I'm curious but was anyone here born with mental problems that function fine now without "Medications"? Meaning as young as you can remember?

I ask because I had a lot of anxiety growing up as a child, mostly separation anxiety from my parents but I was never medicated. As I grew older I started to out grow it until one of my parents died in front of me when I was 15 which led me down this path, so really I am just curious.

I almost feel like I got trapped and there is no way out. The withdrawal from this Anafranil is horrible, I just don't know if I got trapped on the Klonopin and might just have to remain on it because I am barely holding on as it is and I can't imagine having something but I remember before the trauma I wasn't on anything, you know?

2001-2005 - First Anxiety Medications tried, Gabitril and Neurontin, did nothing. Started Paxil as well I remember, remained on a year, didn't really do much.

2005 - Trauma

2006-2013 - Anafranil 150 mg/Ativan 2 mg for PTSD/Trauma. Worked great initually.

Mid 2013 -  Anafranil stopped working, cut 50 percent as psychiatrist instructed, had horrible withdrawal symptoms diagnosed "Bi-Polar"

Mid 2014 - Stared compounding, 10 mg every month.

23 January 2016 -  50 mg of Anafranil/Klonopin 2 mg everyday for Anxiety/Panic. (Taking it slow)

23 June 2016 - 30 mg of Anafranil/Klonopin 2 mg/Atenolol 12.5 mg (half tablet)

19 September 2016 - 15 mg of AnafranilKlonopin 2 mg/Atenolol 25 mg full tablet

13 November 2016 - 5 mg of Anafranil/Klonopin 2 mg. (Crying Spells, Derealization, Vertigo, POTS)

1 December 2016 -  Off Anfranil/2mg of Klonopin. (POTS, DEREALIZATION, DEPERSONALIZATION, CRYING SPELLS, FATIGUE, WEAKNESS)

Hi Shem,

My son was definitely born with problems - autism, sensory processing disorder, anxiety - but he was medicated at age 6 for what his p-doc described as "the most severe case of OCD I've ever seen in a child this age". He was very disabled by his obsessions and compulsions, could barely leave the house, and was definitely suffering. So we agreed to putting him on Paxil, then later Prozac. It gave him a great deal of relief from his OCD symptoms, but never addressed the root cause.

Now, at age 22 and off meds for 3 years, he has absolutely no evidence of OCD. We were able to treat that effectively with diet. But now he's completely disabled by withdrawal - cannot think well enough to fill out a basic name/address/signature form, cannot compose an email, emotionally numb, etc.

Our younger son is also autistic, and is doing well his first year away from home at college in another state. He was never medicated. Autism is a cake-walk compared to withdrawal.

11/12 - 12/12 Risperdal

7/13 - 10/13 tapered off Prozac

10/13 - present: med free

I am sorry to hear that and I can totally relate. I would be a lot more at ease if it wasn't for the Klonopin that was thrown in as well during this whole thing, I am feeling pretty hopeless and lost.

Hi,

I was diagnosed at the age of 17 with sleep OCD (afraid not to be able to sleep which leads to insomnia), extreme anxiety. Now after 20 years of ssri's my OCD got worse because I have new obsessions. CBT does not help. I also feel trapped. Hooked on 3 meds and no life, unable to work, unable to sleep in other places or with a man so no romantic life either, living alone. I am no even sure this is all coming from the drugs, I just think my problem got worse over the years and drugs helped before poop out and when all drugs stopped working I just crashed big time.

1996-1997 Elavil 150 mg, tapered slowly as per doctor's advice - 1999-2005 Prozac 20 mg then 10 mg for a long time then nothing - was not aware of SSRI withdrawal I was told there was no withdrawal with Prozac due to long half life- 2007 Lexapro 10 mg then 20 mg, anxiety too bad to work, then merry go round of Paxil, Effexor, Xeroquel, Risperdal, any drug on the market even drugs for bipolar ... back to Lexapro 10 mg but pooped out + tinnitus problem appeared in 2010 on any ssri- Anafranil 75 mg Jan-March 2017 at 75 mg better then crashed after 6 weeks (poop out) CT  and switch to Brintellix 10 mg in March 2017 + Nozinan 20 mg and zopiclone 7,5 mg (these two taken for a long time). Extreme anxiety, sleeplessness, depression, panic, social anxiety, derealisation, professional disability lost home job marriage everything. I cannot do any changes at the moment due to the extreme PTSD I feel.
