Hi!

I've joined for support and advice as I begin to withdraw from Aropax.

I've been on a 20mg daily dose of Paroxetine (aropax) since 2011. Over time I have skipped tablets and taken my dose to 20mg every second day. I've asked my Dr for a withdrawal schedule and she has advised;

1 week - take 10mg per day to even out...rather than 20mg every second day

3 weeks - take 10mg every second day

1 week - 10mg every third day

Stop

This seems very fast and I was concerned after reading around online I'm not sure this will work.

I look forward to any advice!

Welcome to the forum. ita recommended here to taper 10% every month at first and maybe speed up the cuts by about a week or two only if you are ok with the monthly cuts. It's also recommended not to alternate doses ie not to take 2 dose 1 day another dose the next but to lower progressively. Finally, 10 mg is very big dose to jump off from, almost a cold turkey. The moderators will Flaubert you more advice soon

Kaybee -- Welcome to Surviving Antidepressants (SA)

I'm very glad you had a suspicion that your doctor's approach might not be the best one. The first step to start taking 10 mg daily is a good one. The timeframe and the other 2 steps are best ignored!

A small number of people might do well on your doctor's plan. It's extremely unfortunate that one can't know if decreasing at this pace will be a problem until too late and that can be a situation that much time and suffering. To minimize that risk, We strongly recommend that people be conservative in their approach.

Please post a medication and withdrawal history signature, listing the doses you've taken and the dates (as best you can remember) when you decreased to that dose.

Welcome, Kaybee-- and I'm so glad you're trusting your own intuition that your doctor's recommendation is unsound (which it definitely is). Scallywag has given excellent advice and links. Let us know how you're doing. 

 

You may want to check out Brassmonkey's thread -- he is an incredible Paxil warrior who just made his final cut off Paxil.

 

2020: After 18+ years (entire adult life) on Paxil, a dangerous doctor-led "taper" in 2015, and four years tapering off the last 1 mg thanks to SA and the Brassmonkey slide, 

I AM COMPLETELY FREE OF PAXIL! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Forever.

 

2021: Began conservative, proper, CNS-respecting taper of Zoloft, led by the only expert on me -- me. Making own liquid. 5-10% plus holds.

2022: Holding on Zoloft for now. Current dose 47 mg. Hanging in, hanging on. Severe protracted PAWS, windows and waves. While I may not be doing "a lot" by outside standards, things are graaaaadually getting better

 

Yoga (gentle to medium); walks; daily breath practice; nutrition, fruits/veg; nature; water; EastEnders (lol); practicing self-compassion, self-care; boundaries; connection; allowing feelings; t r u s t ing that I, too, will heal. (--> may need to be reminded of this.)
