Hello I'm lemonade, I hope I'm doing this right. I started having anxiety and depression when I was a teenager and visited a psychiatrist who put me on prozac. I was able to stop taking it after a few years. I don't remember if I had any withdrawl symptoms after that. I still had issues with anxiety but it was manageable after that. After I had my first child I started having post-partum depression that never really went away and my doctor put me on celexa 20mg. I took that for a few years and then decided to try something new (I don't remember why). I tried Wellbutrin CR which made me very sick, and then cymbalta. I ended up going back on the celexa because we were going to try to get pregnant again. Fast forward a few years, I successfully tapered off the celexa when I became pregnant with my next two children. After my last pregnancy (I have three kids)I started back taking 20mg of Celexa. A year later I began having some health issues and had a hard time coping with three kids and became very anxious about their health and welfare. So my Doctor raise me up to 40mg of Celexa. After six months the Celexa was making me very sleepy. My doctor suggested I try Pristiq. I wish I had done some research before starting to take it. I have taken it for a month now and it has helped with my anxiety and depression but I am not feeling much of anything at all. I visited my doctor today and talked to her about my concerns and she suggested for me to try to cut the pill in half and see if that helps.

My question is, has anyone ever had success with 25mg as a therapeutic dose? I am wondering if I should just taper off it all together because I am very scared of having more severe withdrawl symptoms after taking it longer.

My first inclination is just to go back to the 20mg of Celexa that I have had success with in the past.

Thank you, Any opinions or reccommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome, lemonade.

Here's a discussion of cutting up Pristiq: http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/876-tips-for-tapering-off-pristiq-desvenlafaxine/

Pristiq is an overpriced form of Effexor, especially after you cut it up.

If your doctor does not know this, she is insufficiently informed about antidepressants.

This is a site about tapering off psychiatric drugs. We really can't advise you about which drugs you might want to switch to. After experiencing the side effects and withdrawal symptoms, most of us would never take an antidepressant again.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.
