Thank you ladies. We're having a great time. Just got back from touring the lights along Oxford Street and area. Very pretty to look at. Cold and a bit of rain but still fun. I hope you all will be having great adventures when this WD stuff is all over.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Hey Brass ...have a nice Christmas in England.

I wonder who does Christmas better ..the English or the Americans?

All the best for the travels and of course the tip toe across the finish line in 2017.

On every long trip there comes a moment when you reach saturation. Hopefully it happens near the end. Last night at about 11 pm Monica said "I think that's enough." We had just finished a wonderful day ending with looking at the lights at Kew Garden and had returned to our hotel. Perfect timing as today is packing day and we leave tomorrow morning early.

When i read "i think that's enough" i thought you might be referring to the gory stories told during the Tower of London walking tour.

There is a place called The London Dungeon that used to be all about torture methods. When I visited it 20 years ago it took some doing to get through. This time it was pretty lame. The Tower was too crowded to even try.

Hi Chia--  I have several friends who have built them, so yes.  Been a fan since Doctor #4.  Monica and I were just commenting that there should be one placed in one of the London parks for people to take pictures with.

Well I'm going to start the new year off a day early by making a cut.  I'm now taking only 0.16mg. It is a ridiculously small amount of powder and a total pain in the ... to work with.  I am planning to stick with it until we get back from Africa at the end of the month, but then I think the time has come to make the break.

2 Timothy 1-7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Effexor 75mg to 262.5mg 2005-2010 for post partum depression

Started having poop out mid 2010, also switched generic brands, then crashed in Dec 2010 (anxiety/ "terror", intense DR, anhedonia, suicidal ideation, chills, insomnia, horrible intrusive thoughts, disorientation, ect)
Rapid "tapered" from 262.5mg Effexor in 3 months

Tried Celexa,Cipralex, then Paxil to deal with wd(this switching made things worse and added akathesia)

Found online support and started tapering Paxil 7 months after quitting Effexor (at this point was having small windows).

Paxil taper: dropped 10% every 4-8 weeks

Year 1 October 2011 to Nov 2012 20mg to 10mg

Year 2 March 2013 to Feb 2014 10mg to 4mg

Year 3 April 2014 to May 2015 4mg to 1.1mg

Year 4 June 2015 1.1mg , dropping by 10% until .5mg, after then dropped by 0.1mg every 5 weeks until 0.1mg.

Started on 25 mg Zoloft in March 2011 due to stressrelated tinnitus that gave me panicattacks. Had a terrible reaction to Zoloft from start, but was told to "hold on". After four months I was stuck. Therefore the long taper. Crazy, I know... Super sensitive to drops and have dropped by 4-6 % from the previous dose.

Sitting here waiting for the cabinet installers to arrive.  We are taking advantage of the time between trips to continue with the remodel.  Went shopping last night, the clothing requirements for the African Bush is a lot different than Christmas in London.  This will be a lot "lighter" trip, which will be nice.  Hauling those huge suitcases on the buses and subway took a lot of doing.  This time we have smaller cases and porters to do all the lifting.

Up until I started my taper I was carrying a HUGE amount of Paxil weight.  Around the time I started I managed to drop about 20 pounds.  I plateaued there for several years, then managed to drop another 10.  I again plateaued for a number of years.  Well, it's starting to come off again with another drop of 10 pounds, so far.  I really doubt that I will get back to my prepaxil weight, but I will be very happy with another 10 pounds from here.

Finished! Official last dose of 0.1mg on June 15/16

Thanks Shep and Aberdeen, it's going to be an exciting year.  ATM it's pretty crazy.  Had the cabinet installers in for a couple of days to make some progress on the remodel.  It's going slow because of the scattered schedule but is really looking great.  There have been some ticketing problems with the Africa trip that we are in the middle of sorting out.  Makes me nervous as we are meant to leave in four days.  Other than that we are ready to go.  Throw in handling some stuff from my fathers estate, tax season and some other stuff, we're managing to keep quite busy.

Our trip to Alaska, that was scheduled for early summer, is having to be postponed due to scheduling problems on their end.  However, we have found a Nile Cruse in April/May that is looking promising to replace it.  Always wanted to go to Egypt, this might be a good way to start.  We've also booked a room in Grand Island Nebraska for the Solar Eclipse in August.  We wanted to go to Oregon for it but the state was sold out, no rooms available anywhere near the totality line.  But we have the rooms at a reasonable rate, Idaho and Wyoming are gouging the prices horribly, now we just have to plan the details of the trip.  That can wait a month or so though.

I'm trying not to count down the days until I make the jump, but it's coming really soon.  I'll be very glad to be done with it and to start moving on.  Actually I'm already moving on.  I'll just have one less little detail to have to worry about.

Tom so great to see that you are doing so well!  These trips sound so awesome and exciting!  I understand completely about the med weight.  I was always 110 to 115 pounds, even after my kids, but gained around 50 pounds with the meds.  Am losing some now, seems  a little easier with the lower, I get.  At least more motivation to exercise and eat right.  Hope you have a great time in Africa!  Always love seeing your posts.

Thanks for dropping in Mustangwoman, haven't seen you in ages, hope everything is going well. It certainly feels better getting the weight off, I should be able to adjust blood pressure meds and the like pretty soon.  I've been adjusting them as it comes off and maybe will be able to get off of them all together pretty soon.

We leave for Africa in the morning.  Right now we are waiting for final conformation of our flights.  There were some conflicts caused by the airlines changing schedules and someone at the Safari company canceling tickets and keeping the money.  There have been a lot of phone calls over the past several days, but it all seem to have been straightened out.  We're all packed and ready to go.  Not looking forward to the long flights 3 hours, 11 hours and 13 hours back to back to back.  Those little seats get very small after a while, but I can't wait to see the elephants and other animals.

We have until the 14th. Feb 2018.

URGENT REQUEST Please consider submitting  for the petition on Prescribed Drug Dependence and Withdrawal currently awaiting its third consideration at the Scottish Parliament. You don't even have to be from Scotland. By clicking on the link below you can read some of the previous submissions but be warned many of them are quite harrowing.

http://www.parliament.scot/GettingInvolved/Petitions/PE01651

Please tell them about your problems taking and withdrawing from antidepressants and/or benzos.

Send by email to petitions@parliament.scot and quote PE01651 in the subject heading. Keep to a maximum of 3 sides of A4 and you can't name for legal reasons any doctor you have consulted. Tell them if you wish to remain anonymous. We need the numbers to help convince the committee members we are not isolated cases. You have until mid February. Thank you

None of the published articles shed light on what ssri's ... actually do or what their hazards might be. Healy 2013.

This is so true, with anything you get on these drugs, dependance, tapering, withdrawal symptoms, side effects, just silent. And if there is something mentioned then their is a serious disconnect between what is said and reality!

Over two decades later, the number of antidepressant prescriptions a year is slightly more than the number of people in the Western world. Most (nine out of 10) prescriptions are for patients who faced difficulties on stopping, equating to about a tenth of the population. These patients are often advised to continue treatment because their difficulties indicate they need ongoing treatment, just as a person with diabetes needs insulin. Healy 2015

Sounds amazing, Tom!! You've earned it. :) Can't wait to hear all about it.

2020: After 18+ years (entire adult life) on Paxil, a dangerous doctor-led "taper" in 2015, and four years tapering off the last 1 mg thanks to SA and the Brassmonkey slide,

I AM COMPLETELY FREE OF PAXIL! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Forever.

2021: Began conservative, proper, CNS-respecting taper of Zoloft, led by the only expert on me -- me. Making own liquid. 5-10% plus holds.

2022: Holding on Zoloft for now. Current dose 47 mg. Hanging in, hanging on. Severe protracted PAWS, windows and waves. While I may not be doing "a lot" by outside standards, things are graaaaadually getting better

It took 45 straight hours of travel to get from the camp in Kenya to home, but we are now back.  It has been the most amazing trip we have ever taken.  It's going to take several days to settle out of all the time changes, physical schedule changes and the like but that will happen in its own time.  I took over 5000 pictures and a ton of video and have started sorting through them.  That process will take a while.  It was a very physically demanding trip but we will be doing it again in a few years.  As I get my thoughts together I'll be posting more details and a few pictures.

Welcome back, Tom.  Needless to say, the fact that you could handle such a demanding trip is a testament to your healing.

Great news and glad you enjoyed!

Sertraline 50mg and Clonazapam .375mg from 2000 -- symptoms of dizziness Spring 2012

increased to .5 Clonazapam and 100mg Sertraline -- no improvement

Benzo microtaper from November 2012 to November 2014 (followed benzo sites "taper benzo first")

Started Sertraline taper in December 2014 cut by 25mg to 75mg; 62.5mg 1/1/15 and 50mg on 2/1/15

Held at 50mg through April 5 to use liquid
Reduced dosage in 10% or less drops from 50mg to 25mg -- at single tablet of 25mg on 10/5/15

Transitioned to all liquid for accuracy while tapering -- Horrible insomnia -- back to 25mg liquid and held until October 1, 2016

10/16 -- 11/18 tapered very slowly to 10.6mg.  No real improvement and never really stable so updosed to 12.5mg (1/2 a pill) for convenience and long hold.

After 8+ months of holding with no noticeable improvement decided to add .4ml of liquid Prozac (about 1.5mg) to see if that improves the situation

The day, date and time changes of the return trip have really played havoc with our sleep cycles.  Yesterday, after being up for about five hours I fell asleep in the recliner at 2 pm and didn't move until after midnight.  Monica apparently fell asleep about 5pm thinking it was late night even thought the sun was shining and woke up about 1 am not knowing what day it was, and wondering why it was dark out.  We actually got out to run errands today and hopefully that will help to readjust the cycles.

We've spent a good number of our late night  waking hours sorting pictures.  We hook the laptop into the big screen TV so we can both see them and review each one.  I think I mentioned last summer that I had bought a new camera for this trip, I'm very glad I did. All the others in our Land Cruiser, six plus a driver, were using their cell phones and had mixed results at best.  I was nominated to share mine with them so they will have some to remember things by.

For anyone inclined to try the trip I wholeheartedly recommend it.  It's very intense and physically demanding but soooooo worth it.

Good of you to buy a camera for that trip!

I can imagine it's exhausting to come back with jet lag. I hope you soon are back to your ordinary cycle.

Where were you in Kenya?

Hugs!

Welcome back, Tom. I'm glad you had such a great trip. Your ability to handle all of this during a taper is quite impressive. I'm glad you're sharing your story with us as you go along.  :)
