This presentation was part of the June 9, 2009 meeting minutes of the FDA Psychopharmacologic Drugs Advisory Committee meeting in Maryland. It contains many anecdotal reports of severe and long-lasting withdrawal syndrome from Cymbalta, a relatively new wonder drug.

From the presentation to the FDA

Much anecdotal evidence has accumulated documenting the
injury, distress and life management impacts caused by
discontinuation of Cymbalta
The effects of discontinuation can be severe and extend for weeks or
even months

  • Extreme mood swings (anger, irritability)
  • Debilitating “Brain Zaps”
  • Physical and neurological problems
– Physical and psychological disturbances adversely affect job function
and family/social relationships
  • Employment risk
  • Negative impacts on care of family members

According to this article, Cymbalta is even worse than PAxil. I can hardly imagine a hell with even more scorching temperature as I went through... and that for years. Good thing that the FDA has gotten access to this report. But I have little confidence that it will lead to appropriate action. The remarks about tapering are most important, the leaflets these days do contains warnings about the need for tapering off, but none of the manufacturers delivers a working scheme in the leaflet or refers to use of the liquid...

10 mg Paxil/Seroxat since 2002
several attempts to quit since 2004
Quit c/t again Oktober 2007, in protracted w/d since then
after 3.5 years slight improvement but still on the road

after 6 years pretty much recovered but still some nasty residual sypmtons
We are not lost even though it may feel that way. We are in transition.

Is there a link to another version of that file? I can't open files at that site. :( I'd be fascinated to read the document, even though I'm not on that drug. B
