beachgal77: Lexapro, Klonopin and Trazodone

Hi all! I'm new to this forum. I came across the site while doing a search on how to safely come off my medications.

Currently, I take 30 mg Lexapro daily. I also take 0.5 mg Klonopin (clonazepam) each night, and 50 mg Trazodone each night. I'm tired of the sexual dysfunction (and so is my husband, LOL), and also the weight gain, memory loss, and lack of concentration I've been dealing with since I've been on these meds. I have been on Lexapro for 10 years now; we started with 10 mg, then increased to 20 mg, and then up to 30 mg about a year ago because each time the dose would "poop out."

I'm in regular therapy (CBT) with a fabulous counselor, and I also have a wonderful support group of friends. I don't want to be dependent on these medications any longer.

Do you have a suggested taper plan? I would like to come off all 3 of these medications, but I know it can't all be done at once.

I have tapered successfully before, but always ended up going back on the Lexapro because of the "rebound anxiety" I would get.

2003: Began 10 mg Lexapro for depression after divorce.

2006: Increased to 20 mg Lexapro.

2011: Increased to 30 mg Lexapro.

2012: Klonopin (0.5 mg) for anxiety and Trazodone (50 mg) for sleep, in addition to the 30 mg Lexapro.

2013: Started taper off Lexapro, but went back on it. Currently still taking all 3 meds. Want to be medication-free.

Hi beach gal,

Welcome to the forum. We usually recommend tapering the anti-depressant first. Trazodone is an AD also but if I were you I'd start with the Lexapro.

When you get a chance, please add your drug history in signature, here is a link with instructions:

That is very helpful to anyone reading and hoping to help.

Thanks

Speaking as someone who tapered off Lexapro far too fast, I definitely recommend you start your tapering off with that drug. Go very slowly and carefully and listen to your body. Getting off of 30 mg. safely and comfortably is going to take a while, but hang in there. It's well worth it to be off these drugs and the risks that come with them.

Welcome to the forum.

Psychotropic drug history: Pristiq 50 mg. (mid-September 2010 through February 2011), Remeron (mid-September 2010 through January 2011), Lexapro 10 mg. (mid-February 2011 through mid-December 2011), Lorazepam (Ativan) 1 mg. as needed mid-September 2010 through early March 2012
