Muddles

Recommended Posts

Muddles, I only get out of bed if something very important needs to be done (like peeing :)). Too sick to do anything right now. Just hiding in bed.

I'd take the lethargy and apathy over the anxiety and agitation any day.

I suffer from depression, anxiety, pure-o ocd, and panic attacks since 2004. Been on multiple different psychiatric drugs since 2006. Never had a significant WD problem before, only brain zaps for a month and then I'd be fine...............Been on Cipralex (escitalopram) 15 mg and Fluanxol (flupentixol) 1 mg since Sep 2014. Stopped taking the Cipralex after a fast 20-day taper.Took the last 5 mg Cipralex on Feb 5th, 2015. Then took Seroxat (paroxetine) 10 mg for a week, and stopped it too. Severe WD started suddenly on Feb 16th. RI 5 mg Cipralex on Feb 18th, 2015. RI worked and was relatively stable for a while................April 7 - decreased Fluanxol from 1 mg to 0.5 mg and took it at this dose for a week. - BIG MISTAKE; April 13 - WD starts creeping in; April 14 - RI full dose of Fluanxol 1 mg => severe muscle twitching and jerking when trying to relax and fall asleep, overwhelming sense of doom, dread, terror, and horror, insomnia, hoping to stabilize.
Tried doing a 10% cut off Fluanxol in the end of May for a few days, but quickly updosed to full dose because the twitching returned.
Experiencing waves and windows in the following months.
Unsuccessful brief taper attempt of Fluanxol by 5% on November 1st. Symptoms hit the next day. Too scared to continue tapering, reinstate full dose.
Severe crash in November after stupidly trying a barbiturate on November 9th. Grave mistake. Sense of unshakable inescapable internal torture, like my soul is in hell being tortured, terror/horror/dread/doom (probably akathisia?) that gets especially bad when trying to relax and fall asleep, muscles twitch, jerk and move on their own, shaking, insomnia, can't eat, confusion, disorientation, brain not working normally. Never felt so bad in my entire life. Never experiment with other meds while in WD! Praying to God I stabilize and get back to my baseline.
December - things getting even worse.

January - unbearable suffering

It's more than that , for sure. Something happens to us on this medication, that may or may not come back. It changes  us, in a very bad way, but hopefully , temporarily.   I know for sure, we recover, but maybe never  what we could have been , had we not  encountered  the drugs.   Personally, I can accept that, and I hope that doesn't upset anyone.   Hang in there, M.

Many SSRI's and SSNRI's over 20 years. Zoloft for 7 years followed by Effexor, Lexapro, Prozac, Cymbalta, Celexa, Pristiq, Valdoxan, Mianserin and more - on and off. No tapering. Cold turkey off Valdoxan - end of May 2014

Hey Muddles,

I just booked my flights for the "More harm than good" conference. That made me think of you and wonder how you're doing.

Sending a hug,

Laura

Feb 2015 Took venlafaxine for 5 days only... experienced withdrawal that made me completely non-functional

Mar 2015 took under 1mg of Sertraline for 10 days in an attempt to combat Venlafaxine withdrawal. Got adverse reactions.

After stopping Sertraline, withdrawal got much worse. New, horrific symptoms.

June 2015 Still non-functional but slowly getting better. Still brain zaps, migraines, sweating, heart racing, depression, crying spells

September 2015: 24/7 brain zaps, twitches in the face, no concentration, bad memory, language skills deteriorating.

Hi Laura. Good to hear you are coming over for the event. I am going to have to see how I am - deep down I don't think I could manage it but so desperately want to go.

I'm worried it may freak me out!

I still battling on somehow. I've been pushing myself to do things no matter how bad I feel and sometimes it even helps a little. I don't come on here so much as its kind of like the same old story and gets boring - I know my friends are clearly bored of the whole thing as most of them have disappeared....I can't really blame them, I'm bored of me too!

I will let you know nearer the time if I am able to go and will definitely have to meet up there. .

Thanks for thinking of me. I really hope you are doing better and hope everyone else here is holding on and coping somehow.

(((Muddles))) I think we're all sick and tired of the whole situation--and tired of posting the same thing day after day :(

Tapered Zoloft about 6 wks. Totally off since the end of July (25-29, 2014). 3 wks. vertigo at end of taper, then 3-4 wks. OK, followed by withdrawal symptoms increasing in severity (nausea, gastric disturbances, loss of appetite, insomnia, restlessness, jitters, anxiety, agitation--jumping out of my skin--possible akathisia?) Seem to have paradoxical reactions to everything new, even Vitamin C. Severity of akathisia comes and goes, but is constant to some degree. Hard to leave house, and cannot be home alone. (Retired)

Hi Muddles,

good to hear from you! I hope you'll feel up to it, but of course we all know that in our state it's impossible to make plans. One minute we can be ok, and the next horrible.

So sorry to hear that your friends are disappearing from you. I think for outsiders it's just impossible to comprehend what we're going through. It's such an unreal experience...

I'm doing a bit better actually. I had an electric head 24/7 for months and months. It never seemed to stop. But now it seems to be getting better. I'll post a bit more about it on my thread.

Wishing you healing,

Laura

Hi Muddles!

Hope you are feeling better these days. Always praying for you.

Do you know what happened to btdt? She hasn't posted in over a month. I've been off the forum awhile.

Are you feeling any better?

Love, Pug

January 2012 - Prescribed 900mg gabapentin and 30mg Norco for lower lumber spinal stenosis pain.

September 2013 - Spinal fusion surgery, 6 levels. Hospital ramped up meds 1500mg gabapentin, 100mg Norco, 80mg Oxycontin, 25mg Fentanyl patch.

January 2014 - Sever nausea daily and with back pain every 4 hours. 2 trips to ER. First endoscopy found ulcer. Treated with Sucralfate and PPI. Second endo in May found no ulcers. Doctors said it was the opiates causing the nausea. CT'd Oxycontin, Fentanyl patch.

July 2014 - Lost 48 lbs. due to not eating because of severe nausea. GP prescribed Prozac 20mg and Ativan 2mg prn. Tried for 4 days, quit. Two week followup GP said keep taking Prozac. 4 days, quit again. Ativan taken rarely prn for anxiety and appetite.

August 2014 - Went to detox. Off opiates. Still nauseous, helmet head, drugged feeling. Doctor CT'd gabapentin. Ended up in ER. Found 2 gallstones. Gabapentin reinstated at 900mg. Tried botched up and down taper to get off Gabapentin. No tapering advice from doctor. Said to just CT again.

September 2014 - Coded on table during gallbladder surgery. Developed liver biloma due to CPR by doctor. Had bile bulb inserted for 2 wks to drain.

October 2014 - Gallbladder removed. Still nauseous, 3am cortisol surging, drugged helmet head, vertigo, breathlessness, whooshing head, heart palps.

November 8th, 2014 - CT'd gabapentin suggested by family and 4 different doctors. Was told no withdrawal is associated with gabapentin. Have been in hell ever since. No windows, just one big tsunami every day with same symptoms for 4 months.

December 26, 2014 - Found SA. At least I know I'm not insane. My family thinks I'm doing this to myself. Akathesia has become unbearable.

March 10, 2015 - In absolute daily hell with no relief. Currently taking magnesium 200mg before bedtime.

Hi Pug! I see you're are better than what you were, that's great news! I really think the worst is over for you now.

I'm still pretty much the same tbh. Kids have been off school have had pushed myself out on a few occasions no matter how bad I feel....sometimes it helps to do this. It's also helped me not having to get them to school....Mornings are so awful and I can't function at all.

I'm acrually dreading them going back to school and I didn't think I would be saying that.

Regarding btdt - I haven't heard from her at all. I have been wondering how she is doing and just hope she's ok.

I can relate to the sending kids off to school thing.  My kids' first day was a few days ago and while most moms were celebrating and going to do errands with freedom I was in my house crying.

Dec 2014 I tried Zoloft 25mg for one week (adverse reaction - extreme anxiety and felt like I was on an amphetamine). Dr. said to quit cold turkey, so I not only quit Zoloft but also 2 weeks of Xanax .25mg -- extreme dizziness, hyperarousal and anxiety began! On Jan. 29, 2015 my psychiatrist put me on new stuff and this is how my next 2 months and 7 days looked like (I was having the same bad reactions to all of these):Effexor XR 37.5mg (3 days) - throwing up, heart palpations, night tremors/convulsions or something where whole body shakes for a second, Prozac 10mg (15 days), Prozac 20mg (7 days) - internal restlessness, electric current through body/brain (not zaps), agitation, intense fear and could no longer nap at this point (still can't today because of this), Lexapro 5mg (4 days) - same as Prozac, a horror show...extreme internal agitation, Lexapro 7.5mg (2 days), Lexapro 10mg (16 days), Zoloft 12.5mg (3 days)...she said try it again since my blood relative does well on it, Zoloft 25mg (7 days) - same as before and getting worse!! Zoloft 50mg (6 days), Zoloft 25mg (4 days and then came off cold turkey on April 8, 2015). I used Xanax .25mg about 7 times per month through all of this until June 30, 2015 (my last benzo dose). Extreme anxiety, nervous system traumatized, mental akathisia, anger triggered by nothing but the brain totally going off on its own, feeling of a pressurized electric current going through me like my brain and body are trying to explode, stress reaction x10000 to everything, waking in terror lasting all day, fear, very sensitive, brain can't keep up, don't know what to do with myself, feeling like everything is going too fast and I can't keep up, helium head, deep depression like something is ripping out my soul, out of my mind, can hardly drive or be alone, cognitive issues, simple tasks are so complex and straining, feel disturbed because the brain can't process anything right even though your brain tries so hard and it makes you go mad, episodes of deep anguish with a sick toxic poison feeling (like you have some unknown virus).

I'm sorry KT - I have another week and a half before they go back. You will get use to them going again.

I am dreading being alone. At least I have my dog now though. She never leaves my side.

My spelling is getting worse - last night I had forgot how to spell 'knowing', I was spelling it 'noing' and it was coming up as error and I couldn't understand why. This is happening an awful lot lately.

I have the spelling issue too.... :(  I was writing "boating" instead of "booting", "discribing" instead of "describing" etc.

Now I can't think of the countless other examples, but it happens a lot. But we'll get our brain back I'm sure!

How's it going with the wee pup. X

2000 - sertraline for job anxiety low confidence (17 years old) ..which turned the next 16 years into nightmare!

On/off sertraline severe withdrawals every time. 2014 - felt better as reduced dose of sertraline no more inner restlessness. Doctor rushed off again. Hit severe withdrawal. Lost the little I had in life. Couldn't get stable again on 12.5mg. Was switched to prozac. Had severe reaction to prozac..came off in November 2015 at 6mg as felt more confused and damaged on it..Even more withdrawal ..rage, depression, dyphoria, near constant suicidal ideation, self harm impulses, doom, concrete block in head, unable to do much of anything with this feeling in head..went back on 6mg of sertraline to see if would alleviate anything. It didn't..reduced from December to June 2016 came off at 2.5mg sertraline as was hospitalised for the severe rage, suicidal impulses, and put on 50mg lofepramine which in 2nd week reduced all symptoms but gave insomnia which still have..psych stopped lofepramine cold turkey..no increased withdrawal symptoms new symptoms from lofepramine except persistant insomnia which has as side effect.

Taking Ativan for 8 months for the severe rage self harm impulses 1-3 times a week (mostly 2 times a week) at .5mg. Two months (I'm unsure exactly when the interdose started to happen) ago interdose withdrawal seemed to happen..2 days I think after the Ativan.

Nightmare that could have been avoided!

Yeah I think it's quite common but get very frustrated when things get worse at nearly 12 months off!

L&L the pup 'Hattie' is doing great. She's a handful at times but she is so loving...cries when I leave her. My son adores her so is very good for him too.

I wish I could upload a pic but when I try it says it's too big to upload?? You would all love her.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

Things are changing here. I've gone from no fear to now fearing absolutley everything...I think this is actually worse.

Out in my car earlier and someone pulls out on me and I still haven't got over it. Sweating, palpitations, horror throughout my body and just feeling really, really bad.

My husband's just opened a can of beer and that sent my heart and body in an absolute state.

What's going on? I'm a year off now. Does it get worse in the second year for some? I'm scared at this sudden shift and new six's. The depression is off thre scale.

(((Muddles))) Sorry you are experiencing these issues. I don't know what others have experienced, but things got consistently worse for me from months 4-11. I feared it was just going to keep getting worse and worse. I am starting to have some slightly better half days, and sometimes even whole days now... sometimes as frequently as every 2nd or 3rd day. The last week has been difficult--health issues with my daughter, etc--but even so, I have continued to have better partial days. The alternate days have been pretty brutal, but I have been able to see some occasional (partial) relief. I am almost 13.5 months off at this point. Hopefully you will begin to see some glimpses of relief soon as well.

Hi Muddles,

I took mirtazapine for three weeks. Back in 2011. It helped immensely with sleep but made me gain extra pounds in such a short time. So I went off CT without any problems. I have an eating disorder. I cannot gain even one pound, it makes me desperate. Would rather be starving, which I do BTW. From mirtazapine I went back to Lexapro, with which I'm stuck until death, I suppose. I hate Lexapro.

XOXO

thanks luv. I sure hope so. You know I must have been feeling a little better without even realising it. I don't think we do until we are slammed right back into the brutal hell.

Hang on in there Luv. We have no choice but to see this through somehow.

We all react so differently to these evil drugs.

Mel

mirtazapine is an awful drug - they all are. It has always really angered me that this drug is given to people with eating disorders. I read that it's prescibed to anorexics....that's so wrong. I actually developed an eating disorder on the drug. I would fill my face with crap food because of the cravings I had and then go make myself sick because of the weight I was gaining was just unbelievable. I'm sure my stomach problems I have now is from all of that.

I'm glad you stopped taking it. Just stay away from these mind altering poisons.

Muddles,

You will see a lot of healing in this second year. You will recover 100%, sweetheart.

My symptoms are changing up somewhat too and it's scary. Was used to the normal sh*tty and used to pray for something to change. Now that it's happening, I'm frightened. We are healing. This is what healing feels like. Some things get better, new things emerge. We are closer to the finish line.

One year off.

Symptoms I am dealing with;

Total loss of emotion

Apathy

Cog fog (this has never shifted) - feels like my frontal lobe has died, removed and replaced with concrete..this feels like brain damage and wish this would get better to give me some hope of recovery

EHS, food and chemical sensitivity

Headaches

Body pain. Severe gum and tooth pain

Chronic fatigue

Random thoughts and images

Depression

Suicidal thoughts

Heart palpitations

Severe memory issues - dementia type

DP/DR

Intolerance to heat and cold

Sleep issues - this is getting worse again

Total personality change - I have forgotten who I was

Time distortion - every minute of everyday is the same..time passes and I don't realise.

Feeling toxic - constantly feel like I have the worst hangover x a million

Can't make decisions, can't organise or plan anything

Muscle twitches

Stomach issues - this is new...can't eat without having severe stomach and pelvic pain, kept me awake all of last night.

Sweating

Doom feeling - this passed for a while but now back...its just awful and sits in my stomach and chest and gets so bad sometimes I want to rip my skin off

Rage

Guilt - constant

Thoughts are really loud and not normal - feel schizophrenic.

Through the summer holidays I was able to push myself out with the children a couple of times and must have felt a little better than I do now because I am back to being bed bound with new Symptoms - my body goes in to overdrive with any stimulation....that's krept up over the last couple of weeks.

I can't believe this can get worse than it was. To me that just always seemed impossible but it's happening. I am really at the end of my Rope with this. The past 21 months have been torture - something I would wish on my worst enemy and now I just want some peace.

I'm going to move away from the boards. I'm being triggered by seeing people decline so bad in the second/third year off. I know I won't survive if this gets much worse. No-one could possibly survive worse than this...I wouldn't expect anyone too either.

Hopefully come back with a better list....hopefully be able to cross things off there the next time I'm back. I hope so but for now I have to protect my sick brain from all stress and bad stuff as it just can't take it anymore.

Thinking of you all. Sorry I've been rubbish at giving support...lost all empathy too which is one thing I always had.

 Hi Muddles,

Looking at your "Signature", it looks like you did a sudden drop , from 9 mg  - o mg.  Have I got that right?  Was there a reason?    Maybe , you just haven't updated.

Anyway, I'm so sorry that you're  feeling so low & I hope you find some relief from your symptoms, very soon.  You have to do what feels right for you & if "having a break"  seems right, then I think you have to go with that.  I wish you peace & hope for your continued healing.   Ali.

Psych Drug - free since May 2014

Muddles, you have to do what you have to do to get better!

Praying you will be able to see some improvements SOON!!

XOXO

Zoloft 100 mg. daily for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since Oct. 1994 / Synthroid 88 mcg. daily / Supplements: Neptune Krill Oil-1,000 mg. twice daily/Astaxanthin 10 mg. twice daily/Ubiquinol 100 mg. twice daily (These 3 have allowed me to discontinue (approved by doctor) bp meds I was on. Calcium Citrate 500 mg. daily/Vitamin D3 2,400 iu daily/K2 (MK7) 100 mcg daily (osteopenia and fam. hist. of severe osteoporosis). Stress B Complex (1/2 dose)/Quercetin (for allergies/asthma)/Magnesium (400 mg. oral glycinate and about 50 mg. magnesium chloride spray oil a day, divided throughout day).

(Retired)

Hugs and love to you xx

So sorry you are having all these symptoms to deal with.

You were very supportive to me recently when I hit a bad patch even though you are much worse yourself.

Don't give up Muddles - and if you feel a break is necessary so be it.

I truly hope that next time we hear from you, you will be feeling a lot better.

Muddles, you will get better.  Symptoms change.  I am getting really depression/hopelessness for days at a time and then it turns into something else.  None of this will be permanent.  Yes, stay away from all stress.

Hi Muddles I came to check on you I hope your time off here is good for you and I wish you peace please update sometime. B

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Hi Muddles,

I just saw the symptom list in your last post. I could have written the exact same list for myself about a year ago, I'm also a slow healer and have been certain I wasn't going to get any better. But now, a year later, I can say that about half of those symptoms have gone or have reduced a lot, in particular these:

Cog fog

food and supplement sensitivities

Pain including gum and teeth

Suicidal thoughts

DP/DR

Sweating and temperature issues

Twitching, shaking and vibration type symptoms

All day dread/doom/fear

Some of it comes back, temporarily when I'm hit with stress or a wave, but even the waves are not lasting more than a few days now.  I'm just over 2 years off (all drugs) and have noticed significant changes over the last several months. So I'm one person who is improving in year 2/3 rather than declining.

There are probably many more people improving, than declining, its just that they are not posting about it here.

If staying away from the boards is better for you, then that's what you need to do. But please come back and write your recovery story when you feel ready.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

Petu - thank you for your words, I needed to hear them today as it really has hit an all time low. I can't even go into it. I need to dig my heals in and get to that second year as I've been told by a few I should start seeing some improvements by then. I'm so pleased you are experiencing this - you really deserve it after the hell you have had to go through these past years. Such a strong, lovely lady. Thank you.
