Hi Bellisimo,

This issue of "burning" and paraesthesia is currently being investigated by Professor David Healy and he is looking at both escitalopram AND citalopram.

He is currently seeking reports of these sensations to his website www.rxisk.org. The site has a section where you can report your symptoms and receive a Rxisk report to take to your doctor validating your symptoms against the experiences of other sufferers. Would you be willing to do this?

He is specifically seeking reports on the following symptoms:

1) Paraesthesia - tingling, burning, numbness

2) Sensory disturbances to sense of vision, taste, hearing, smell, touch

3) Cardiac problems (blood pressure, slow/fast pulse, irregular pulse or anything unusual for you that cannot be put down to another cause)

If you would like to PM me for further info, I would be happy to go through it with you.

I had similar itching and burning in citalopram withdrawal and temperature dysregulation issues.

x

5 yrs on Escitalopram 10mg, 2 week taper resulting in serious protracted w/d
Cardiac and autonomic nervous system w/d effects resulted in hospital admission - low & erratic pulse
Re-instated to 10mg Citalopram after several months - bit better
Tapered after 6 months (2008) over 3 months using liquid drops - gave up when w/d started at 2 mg as didn't know better.
Cardiac symptoms - no improvement - pacemaker implanted.
Placed on corticosteroid for autonomic nervous system issue - caused deep depression/suicidal thoughts on top of w/d symptoms
Placed back on Citalopram 10mg for 12 months - 2009/10
Taken off - 2 week taper again - worse w/d, paranoia and intense anxiety developed. Referred to psychiatry
Placed back on Citalopram 10mg - 2012 - refused higher dose
Taken off after 6 months - 2 week taper again - serious anxiety, dissociation, in a mess
Therapist, peer support and education on psych drug w/d got me through more serious w/drawal effects.
Drug free since 2012, but still have bradycardia, recently tachycardia and pacemaker plus minor legacy effects. No MH symptoms

I have had burning sensations most of the past 3 years of withdrawal. As well as all different types of other pains as well. It's scary.

01/2006 Put on Prozac for anxiety and panic attacks 08/2008 Came off Zoloft after tapering don't remember taper, lost weight, felt like had cold constantly, very panicky, pain everywhere (misdiagnosed fibromyalgia), head funny.05/2010 put back on Zoloft03/2012 came completely off Zoloft followed Dr standard taper- no appetite, lost weight (0.5 stone), flu-like feelings constantly, pain everywhere, head funny, nausea, very panicky, very strong emotions etc Lost 1 stone.04/2013 improving. actually put on some weight and hungry most of the time. Still burning pain joints, stomach upset, headache/feel faint and emotions very strong. Chest very painful too.01/2014 improving still. Gained weight!! Still hungry. Still headache/feel faint and strong emotions and chest/shoulder muscles painful. Periods irregular and very painful. Very tired. Joints burn only if eat refined sugars. Started eating fruits again.03/2014 2 years off. Now intolerances developed to nuts and soya. Permanently hungry, Emotions strong but started healing psychological reasons I was put on antidepressants with therapist. Shoulder pain bad, heady often, very tired.06/2014 flu-like symptoms returned, many intolerances, stomach painful, skin crawling feeling, muscles painful, very emotional. :-((

The last week or so I have had what I think is terrible akathisia. An inability to sit still or relax, feeling like I am always in a hurry and wanting to crawl out of my skin. Has anyone else experienced this with a burning/tingling sensation? I guess it kind of feels like anxiety but more of a tingling uneasy sensation. Very difficult to describe in words..?

Yes, I am having the same thing and only a couple of weeks in to Prozac withdrawal. It's like a total internal anxiety, jumping out of skin feeling. I get tingling in my head, do you? Very difficult. How do you calm yourself?

Zoloft from 2006-2014.
Suffered hypomanic episode in 2014 and tried a multitude of meds.
Ended up on low dose Prozac for 1 month.
Currently withdrawing off of Prozac.

Was on various doses of Lexapro for 6 years.

Took my last tablet in December 2014.

After 6 weeks started experiencing pin-prick, "electric-zap", tingling, sometimes burning sensations all around my body, in weird places, including my scalp, in my eyes, around my eyes, inside my nose and mouth, shoulders, arms, hands, torso, genitals, groin, legs and feet. This is ongoing. For me it's not pins and needles or skin-crawling.

2009-2012: Lexapro 10mg, and then varying doses , multiple failed attempts to wean myself off. Instant withdrawal side-effects, including: loss of balance; forgetfulness; bruxism; apathy; pins & needles; extreme anxiety; panic; extremely vivid dreams and nightmares; akathisia; suicidal ideation; sleep paralysis; skin crawling; and more.2012-March to 2013-December: Lexapro 10mg, Life was great.2014-January to 2014-December: Weaned myself off, using 10mg and 5mg doses only. Alternated & skipped days until finally going cold turkey. Experienced restless leg at night, temporarily. Numbness in scalp, sporadically.2015-January to 2015-April No medication. 2 weeks after taking final pill - choking sensations [ongoing]. 6 weeks after final pill - Random, all-over, burning / pin-prick / electric shock sensations throughout my body [Ongoing] (Never any brain zaps though.) Tinnitus symptoms [temporary.] Loss of sensation in throat/neck [ongoing]. MRI of brain and C-spine; blood tests; all clear. 2015-April to now 10mg Lexapro. Loss of sensation in fingers [constant]. Still experiencing burning / pin-prick / electric shock sensations all over my body since before reinstatement [almost constant]. Still experiencing numbness in throat/neck since before reinstatement [constant.] Balance problems [infrequent]. Pins and needles in legs & feet [infrequent.]
2015-Nov to date: 10mg daily. Numbness in finger remains, some electric shocks, but it doesn't bother me anymore. Loss of sensation / motor capabilities in tongue / throat / airways continues, seems to be getting worse.

It's some sort of peripheral neuropathy. There's not much you can do to relieve it, other than to avoid fast food with a bunch of preservatives (including chinese food with MSG) and alcohol, nicotine, and any other drug. It will heal over time. I used to not even be able to feel my own limbs and have SEARING pain all over my body at times, like someone poured a cup of hot water on my hands and feet and face. Over the past 2 years or so, it's just gradually disappeared and sometimes I don't even notice it anymore.

I eat a very healthy diet, and cook 95% of all of my meals and eat a LOT of fruit and vegetables, so I think that helps - I also get exercise for about 60-90 minutes at least 3-4X per week. Other than that theres NOTHING you can do to improve this symptom (at least not that I've discovered). Your nerves will slowly heal themselves as long as you don't take any drugs whatsoever that aggravate the condition.

It's really damn scary, I agree - it's the scariest symptom of all of them (along with the numbness).

In addition to the burning skin, I used to also get the "barber chair electric sensation" whereby a wave of weird tingling would spread down my leg or up my body. I used to get this sort of barber chair sensation all over my head and face and limbs, many times a day - it was really utterly terrifying. I used to have a lot of tremors and involuntary twitches and crazy flashing and lights in my eyes. Sometimes I'd feel like my leg was hot in one location but not others. My hands and feet felt like someone had chopped off my hands and feet, because there was THAT little sensation coming from my limbs to my brain. I often worried about chopping my fingers off while using a cutting knife or something.

Sort of amazingly like 75% of these symptoms have either disappeared or become relatively difficult to notice. This has been over a 1 year period.

If I can heal from this, you'll heal eventually as well. Just need to be extremely patient and try to accept that this is your life and that it's the only one you're going to get.

8 Words of Wisdom about Adverse Effects and Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal Syndrome:

1. Please do learn about this condition by thoroughly reading 1) Dr. Healy's website and SurvivingAntidepressants.

2. Please read books like: 1) Anatomy of An Epidemic and 2) Mad in America.

3. Success Stories do exist.

4. Please be extremely cautious about reinstatements, recreational drugs, supplements. Even low doses can complicate matters.

5. Transfer all financial assets into your own name (hint: relationships end). Do not spend money wastefully. Keep your job as long as possible.

6. Psychiatric drug "withdrawal" and adverse effects are serious neurological reactions to powerful "drugs" - do not take this condition lightly.

7. These conditions almost never recognized by any medical doctors - hospitalization/appointments can be futile/potentially injurious.

8. PSSD, anhedonia (no emotions), memory loss, brain zaps, etc are scary - don't worsen them by taking more drugs, supplements, and medications.

I've had the burning and tingling sensations for 3 months or so, now, but only in the past 48 hours has the burning actually become quite painful all of a sudden. It has taken me by complete surprise. Mentally, I was doing really well, but now this has set me back because it's really disturbing me.

A few weeks ago, I started to experience hot hands. It's progressed to the chest, neck and face....
Is this wd? Or just feminine stuff?
meds tapered @ 50% under psychiatrist June 2013 to October 2014 taper Effexor 150mg, Prozac 40mg,HRT,Gabapentine 500mg tid,Lamotrigine 25mg bid, Librium 5mg qid. October 2014 reduced final med prozac 40 mg-0mg in 4 weeks! 6 weeks later major wd kicked in. Off all meds oct 2014
supplements:Omega 3 4000mg, Vit D 2000mg,March added Inositol 6g 4/ day, TrueHope EMP 2.5 caps. + GabaMax (Phenyl gaba) 1/2 tsp 2/ day, choline bitartrate 250 mg up to 4/ day. June + ltryptophan adverse reaction.
Reinstatement 1 dose 10 mg fluoxetine. adverse reaction face & chest rash the next am...related?saw my neutrons firing, felt like brain swelled or was growing. Too high dose and possible interaction w supplements.June 22,15:Update...stopped emp plus.not sure if it was helping or hindering. Reduced inositol from 24 g/ day to 6 g @ bedtime w gabamax
June 1 mg x ?days, panicked! June, reduced to .50 mg x 2 days, family freaked out, back up to 1 mg
Sometimes think I maybe reacting to meds but it could also just be continuing or new wd symptoms. Occasional rash concerns me but I'm pretty sure an allergic rash would not be intermittent?
August: Prozac 1 mg, quetiepine 6.25 mg @ bedtime, omega 3, vit d doses same. inositol 1.5 tsp w 1/4 tsp gabamax (300 mg phenyl gaba + other ingredients)
Still experiencing disabling symptoms.
Disappointed that I don't feel better being off meds as many report experiencing sx but feel better in the mind...I feel worse. Learning to cope w sx
Mid August reduced inositol to 1.25tsp,gabapentin down to 1/8 + 1/2 of 1/16 tsp (going slow as anxiety increases w each reduction)
August 28: increased Prozac to 1.5 mg hoping for some relief.
Biggest problems now are fear, anxiety, depression along w the physical weak legs and exhaustion.
Upset with myself that I was drug free and then caved looking for relief. All is not lost just because I am taking minimal doses of these drugs. Must remain strong and have faith that I can do it without the drugs...

I've been getting "burning legs" combined with "restless legs" , particularly at night, when I also have insomnia. The feeling is intolerable, and hard to deal with. It's torture. It's one of the worst symptoms, for me at the moment. It feels like an itch on the inside , that you can't scratch. I put it down to "withdrawal", as it's too bizarre to be anything else.

LaineyK, I've given up on sleep, for now. I'm hoping one day , it will come back ! I'm practicing "acceptance".

Many SSRI's &SSNRI's over 20 years . Zoloft - 7 years . Effexor, Lexapro, Prozac, Cymbalta, Celexa, Pristiq, Valdoxan, Mianserin and many more - on and off . No tapering. Cold turkey - Valdoxan - end of May 2014

Ali,

I have been getting this. It's a restless leg, burning thigh sensation.

It comes and goes throughout the day and it's AWFUL. Is it akathisia, parenthisia or what? It's so hard to describe but it's so much worse when I'm laying or sitting down. It causes so much anxiety, too.

The burning sensation is a part of wd as I've experienced it and still experiencing, albeit less intensely now 9 months out in wd in comparison to acute wd 8 months ago. Mild to moderate exercise may help. I do not take supplements at all as they may exacerbate the burning. The tingling also goes along with the burning. Theyre a most gruesome twosome. I'm sorry for your pain.

Thanks, Gem. My WD did not really ramp up till about month 8. I'm in month 12 and this is my new symptom. It's very weird because it comes and goes. Not as if my skin is actually burning, just the sensation and makes my thighs ache with the need to move them. Crazy what these drugs do.

I saw many lexapro users suffering from this very disabling symptom, one of my most intolerable symptoms. The medical term is paresthesia and an indication of CNS damage.

I believe it will eventually go away along with all other symptoms when our CNS heals.

I cant find words HOW TIRED I AM of this burning skin.. its killing me. Im tired but cant sleep because THIS Is killing me. I never had this before i quit my ssri.
I thought it wouldnt last long .. but still soon 9 months later i have the same..

I wonder if this is allergic reaktions i get from stuff, like coffee, sugar etc?
It just comes and can last for hours and i get red all over my body , and it iches crazy, and red dots all over, like an allergic reaktion.

THE ONLY THING That makes it feel better its cold... I use to go out naked on my balkony to try cool down, or take a cold bath or put cold towels on my body, after a while it feels better but it takes long, and this often comes when im relaxing or tired, / evenings / nights..

Often at day when im up i can feel itchy but not as near as this burning sensations..

Im thinking of suing my medicine company for causing me a pain in the ass, also with RLS and insomnia.. if this is not gonna end iam gonna be so pissed ..

sorry if i sound angry but i do feel tired of this :(

hope everyone is doing better or ok outthere, hang in there..

Hi sorry you are suffering I ve had this too for 19 months my poison was paxil
Mine has always coincided with cortisol surges at night worst from about 4am onwards. Its mild now and confined to lore legs and feet.
What helped me was no alcohol no sugar and eating earlier in the evening
Compared with head symptoms and palpitations and anxiety I didn't mind the burning too much. Different strata of hell

When did your burning feet sensation go away? Mine has been constant x1month.

2000 effexor xr 112.5mgTried weaning twice over last few years, gave up after emotional turmoilNoticed mood instability over last few years and went to see pdoc.Pdoc diagnosed bpII and suggested I start lithium and 'wean effexor.Sept 2015 added lithium 300mg.Sept 2015 started to wean effexor.Oct 2015 weaned effexor xr to 75 mg. experienced crying bouts and pdoc suggested prozac bridge to assist taper.Oct 2015 added prozac 20 mg to help bridge; continuing with 75mg effexor, 300 lithiumNov 2015 effexor xr down to 37.5mg, continuing prozac 20 mg and lithium 300 mg.Dec 2015 Started counting effexor beads as dose is now smaller than the 37.5mg capsule - at 86 beads, cont prozac 20 mg, lithium 300 mgJan 2016 effexor 66 beads, which is about 20mg. Continuing with prozac 20mg and lithium 300mg. Also, Omega 3Feb 2016 56 beads of effexor xr. Prozac 20 mg. lithium 300mg, also Omega
3March 2016 Effexor-36 beads. Prozac-10 mg. Lithium 300 mg, also Omega 3 and probiotics, gf, no sugar, high fat, protein diet.
April 2016 Effexor 26 beads, Prozac 10 mg, Lithium 300 mg. also, Omega 3 and probiotics. gf, no sugar, high fat, protein diet.

May 12th took last bead of effexor. Will begin to taper prozac 5mg at a very slow rate. Continuing with 300mg Lithium for now.
May 31st took last of prozac. Continuing Lithium 300 mg, estrogen patch 150, magnesium.
June 14th reinstated 1mg Prozac due to intolerable emotional distress. Cont with lithium 300mg, 150 magnesium, re added omega 3, cont estrogen patch. June 15-july 5th had marked improvement of emotional wd symptoms, likely due to the reinstatement. Wave came crashing in around July 5th and intense emotional symptoms returned.
July 15 decreased 50 mg of lithium to see if it improved low heart rate.
July 19th - increased prozac to 1.5mg.
July 22 marked improvement of emotional symptoms...again, likely due to increase of prozac. However sudden agitation developed so decreased back down to 1.25mg prozac. Realizing increasing dose is dangerous because of these adverse effects and also seeing that wave is inevitable regardless of reinstatement.
Continuing 250 lithium, 1.25mg prozac, estrogen.
Oct 31st - continued 250 lithium, 1 mg prozac, estrogen patch. Thinking about retrying omega 3 and magnesium but they made symptoms worse when i tried a few months ago.

I had badly burning and itchy feet for a while last year before I got my pristiq compounded
in capsules with slow release additive. For me , it was directly a symptom of "dose-dumping"
and resolved as soon as I got that sorted.

I got relief in initially from ice and frozen gel packs , but it would come back intensely
every hour between 10pm and 2/3 am.

I lay there one night just feeling it , and thinking it was like the burning I got from
a hot Madras curry. So I tried slathering my feet with Greek yoghurt , and it stopped almost
instantly. No exaggeration , lol. For the next week or so I went to sleep with each
foot in a freezer bag tied at the ankle , covered in Greek yoghurt.

Love to know if this works for anyone else :).

ha ha Fresh... my dog would NEVER get off my bed then - she would be snuffling at the bags..

i am positive now that the burning feet is a withdrawal effect for me and interestingly is one of the only physical one i get regularly - the other being muscle twitching as i am going off to sleep.. i took a 5% reduction the other day and two days later my feet are burning.

Started in 2000 - On 150mg most of the time, (but up to 225mg at highest dose for 6 months in the beginning)
Reduced off easily first time - but got depressed (not too much anxiety) 6 months later
Back on effexor for another 9 months.
Reduced off again with no immediate w/d - suddenly got depressed and anxious ++ again 3 or 4 months later.
Back on effexor - this time for 3 years
Reduced off over a month - 6 weeks later terrible anxiety - back on.
Rinse and repeat 4 more times - each time the period before the anxiety comes back got shorter and shorter
Jan - July 2012 75mg down to 37.5mg;, 8/3/12 - 35mg. 8/25/12 - 32mg. 9/11- 28mg, 10/2 - 25mg, 10/29 - 22mg, 11/19 - 19.8mg; 12/11 - 17m,
1/1- 15.5mg; 1/22 -14mg, 2/7 14.9mg, 2/18 - 17.8mg - crashed big time: back to 75mg where i sat for 2 years....

4th March 2015 - 67.5mg; 31st March - 60mg; 24th April - 53mg; 13th May - 48mg; 26th May - 45mg; 9th June - 41mg; 1 July- 37.5mg; 20 July - 34mg; 11 August - 31mg; 1st Sept - 28mg; 1st Dec - 25.8mg; 28th Dec - 23.2mg; 23rd Jan-21.9mg; Feb 7th- 21mg; March 1st - 20.1mg, March 30th - 18mg

I had burning / painful feet upon waking up every morning for a good few months. I thought it would never go away. These days I only feel it once in a while. It slowly has gotten better to where it's either gone or I don't feel it as much. My left toes sometimes goes numb too upon waking. I get out of bed like an old man since quitting Paxil.

Been on Paxil 14 years. 40mg for the bulk of those.

20mg in 2014

10mg March of 2015 - then tapered to 5mg

Then to 2.5 to 1.5 - to 1mg, from Mar-August.

As of August 23 2015, I am flying without a net. Paxil free!

WD symptoms since tapering mid- 2015:

Short temper, hostile. Mostly early in my withdrawal. Brain zaps. Bruxism. Wild vivid dreams Hives (chronic that lasted 5 months which diminished after diet changes) Food intolerance (gluten, soy, dairy - eliminating these took away my hives mostly).Lump in throat, . Joint pain. Knees, elbows. Pain in feet. Numbness in hands. One of my toes. (mostly when I am sleeping, or waking up). Shaking, like I'm cold. Trembling. Tremors, muscle twitches all over. Facial tics. Eye, lips. Head. Floaters in my eyes. Severe Insomnia (between months 4-5) then returned from March-October 2016. I'm sleeping better now. Dreams have returned to normal (month 7) High levels of anxiety when around large crowds or in large rooms. Intestinal spasms, heartburn. Dizzy spells. Panic/Anxiety Attacks suddenly developed months 8 out. Took Xanax as needed (bad idea, no longer doing). No xanax at all since June, after bad reaction. Mindfulness and mediation helped A LOT. Still practicing. I highly recommend.

Slowly feeling better, 14 months off. (11-08-16)

Hi! Can burning skin/burning mouth both be a side effect and a wd syndrom? This symptom is quite new to me. I got it mostly under 1 mg zoloft. But I cant really tell if it's a sign that tells me to drop or not. Usually, if I feel worse again after a window, it's time for me to drop again. Now I dont know. Well, it's a trial and error maybe.

Tapering Zoloft since 2011. Current dose: 0,019 mg

0,039 mg 18 March? 0,052 mg 16 March 0,079 mg 4 March 0,086 1 March 0,099 mg 22 February 0,11 mg 15 February 0,13 mg 6 February 0,145 mg 24 January 0,15 mg 19 January 0,19 mg 10 January 0,20 mg 3 January

2016: 0,98 to 0,22 mg

2015: 2,35 to 1,01 mg

2014: 4,9 to 2,5 mg

2013: 9,1 to 5,1 mg

2012: 15,7 to 9,7 mg

2011: Started on 25 mg - then 50 mg- dropped to 25- to 12.5 mg - back to 25 mg - after 18.75 mg started tiny tapering to 16.6 mg

Started on 25 mg Zoloft in March 2011 due to stressrelated tinnitus that gave me panicattacks, then after two weeks up to 50 mg, which dose I was only on for five weeks. Had a terrible reaction to Zoloft from start, but was told to "hold on". After four months on 25 mg/12 mg/18,75 mg I was stuck. Therefore the long taper. Crazy, I know... Super sensitive to drops and have dropped by 4-6 % from the prevoius dose all the way from 17,5 mg.

Burning has always been with me for years, and in a much more serene form, pins and needling, very painful. I read it can be both from WD and side effects but for me it's more after dropping dose. I remember the last year when I hold for 4 months it was rarely a complain.

I would say it could be a side effect if one were starting or increasing a drug, but if you are tapering, it is more likely a withdrawal symptom, since less would not cause a side effect when more didn't. Does that make sense?

SG

Prozac 1995-1999, don't remember the dosage; Wellbutrin 1999-2002? Don't remember dosage though it was in the 300 mgs range
Effexor XR 2002-2014 up to 225 mg at one point, down to 37.5 mg towards end but back up to 75 mg in 2014; now realize I had W/D as I dropped down, memory very poor about history. Did fast taper, don't remember details, around August 2014.
Took Sam-E 200 mg AM and 500 mg L-tryptophan PM Sept.2014 to January 2015

Doing poorly, put on Viibryd 10 mg for 1 wk, 20 mg for several days, BAD ANXIETY, fast taper to 0 in a week; back on Sam-E 200 mg AM and L-tryptophan 500 mg PM until April 10, 2015; doing very badly, put on Remeron 7.5 mg start April 15-April 30, 2015; Increased Remeron from 7.5 mg/day to 37.5 mg by May 22, 2015; still doing very badly,

June 1 Reinstated Effexor XR 37.5 mg, Remeron dropped to 30 mg PM. Immediate relief of symptoms, like nothing had ever happened! On p-doc's orders went up to 75 mg Effexor June 11-12, then back to 37.5 mg when I realized all the hell I had been through before was WD from Effexor! Joined SA and began tapering both too soon one month later.

8/22/15: Effexor to 30.75 mg, Remeron to 22 mg. 9/9/15 Effexor 30 mg/Remeron 21 mg. 9/24/15: Remeron 19 mg. 10/25/16: Remeron 17 mg. 11/14/15: Effexor 28.5 mg 12/2/15: Remeron 16 mg. 12/5/15: Effexor 28.1 mg. 12/17/15: Remeron 15 mg. 1/26/16: Remeron 14 mg. 3/22/16, Remeron 13.5 mg and Effexor 25.9 mg (had nudged it down by fraction of a mg since Dec). 4/28/16: Remeron 13 mg, Effexor 25.5 mg. 5/21/16: Remeron 12 mg, Effexor 24.75 mg. 6/17/16, Effexor 23.25 mg, Remeron 11.6 mg. 7/12/16: Remeron 11 mg, Effexor 22.12 mg. 9/22/16: Effexor 19.5 mg, Remeron 9 mg

Yes, thanks SG. But it's a bit complicated with me. The side effects ramp up if I hold too long. Actually I have never been on any dose more then 6 weeks, ever.
I thought I could tell a difference between side effects and wd, but this one confuses me. But maybe you are right, it's wd. It feels somewhat connected to nervousness/akathasia feelings I experienced last year.

I think I feel your pain, AmyK. I don't feel this all the time, but since DCing Latuda, I cannot stand direct sun exposure. It burns just to be in the sunlight. I have been avoiding the outdoors on bright sunny days. This is on top of the temperature dysregulation since starting Latuda that has not gone away since stopping it. This burning sensation is definitely withdrawal in my case so I have my fingers crossed that it will eventually resolve with time.

I probably came off all of these too rapidly.

Lexapro - 08/15, Started at 10mg, tapered daily over three weeks

Gabapentin - 7/13 800 mg Quit cold turkey the first time and ended up at ER with low pulse, BP, weakness, and confusion. 8/14 Reduced by half the second time I tried to quit and went to urgent care with same symptoms. 10/15 Third quit I reduced by around 10% a week for close to 3 months. Success!

Latuda with Zofran - 04/16, 60 mg reduced by half for a week, then 20 mg for four days, 10 mg for four days, then 5 mg for four days

Currently still on:

Lamictal - started at 200mg (100 x2 daily); tapered 1mg per day (bad move) from April 28th, 2016 to late May 2016. Held at 175 mg from May 28th 2016. Tapered 10% to 157mg on June 21 2016. Currently on hold.

Supplements include: EPA/DHA, B-Complex, and Zinc

Hi Amy! I've had restless legs and body both as a side effect and withdrawal symptom. It is very confusing when you are used to a symptom being a side effect and then experience it in withdrawal. My first reaction was to cut the dose when the symptom appeared during withdrawal. But I did hold the dose and after a week, maybe ten days the symptoms improved! The restlessness is a horrible feeling, I associated it with akathisia.

1997-1999 Citalopram 20 mg

1999-2014 Sertraline 50 mg

2012 Sertraline very quick taper due to side effects. Switched to Wellbutrin 150 mg-300 mg. Reinstated Sertraline 25 mg-50 mg.

2013 Exhaustion. Wellbutrin 150 mg. Sertraline 75 mg-100 mg.

Sept 2014 Found this site. Started tapering. Sertraline 87,5 mg + Wellbutrin 150 mg

Aug 2015 No more Wellbutrin!! Sertraline 50 mg

2016 Sertraline 35 mg (January) - 33 mg (March 21st) - 32,5 mg (July 11) - 32 mg (July 27)

2017 March 28,2 mg and holding

I made a tiny cut two days ago (0.01 mg) and the burning skin disappeared. Other wd symptoms though, but more recognizable as brainfog and such.
Well, I'll see...
Thanks for all your replies!

The left side of the skin on my back and flank was itching and burning last December.
Wasn't tapering at the time (stable on 5 mg) but I researched if it could be (new, not previously felt) a side effect from Lexapro / escitalopram. Couldn't find anything about it.

I turned to my general doctor and he thought I had to see a neurologist. My physiotherapist thought otherwise and said that the muscles in my back and shoulder were strained. Tired muscles fill up with acids and because of not working out (just sitting behind my computer all day in the wrong posture) those toxins and acids heaped up instead of flowing away again.

Okay this was clumsy English, sorry!

So in my case couldn't really by a symptom of WB but wanted to share it with you.
It went away after a few weeks of working out, massage and physiotherapy.

Wish you healing!

All my life: Occasional panic attacks. 2003: Burnout 2004: intrusion (OCD'ish) / anxiety. Therapies: acupuncture, Chinese herbs, hypnotherapy --> symptoms were manageable (did return once in a while), depression lifted.
2007 - Relapse, started with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Therapist recommended Fevarin (fluvoxamine) 150 mg. Recovery after 3 months and remained stable. Mild side effects.
2009 - Tapered fluvoxamine. No withdrawal symptoms. 2010 - Relapse, same Pure O thought and anxiety. Started taking 100 mg of fluvoxamine but after 9 weeks no change in symptoms. Did not have any effect on Pure O thought. Switched to Lexapro (escitalopram) 20 mg. Drug started working within 3 weeks. Mild side effects. Slowly over the years tapered to 5 mg.
2015: Lots of personal issues and setbacks, occasional panic attack. 2016: April started skipping doses; 5mg escitalopram every other day (in hindsight a bad idea)
May: Major relapse, anxiety and intrusion returned. Depression. Increased from 2,5 mg 15 mg in two weeks. Side effects: neuro-emotions
June: Escitalopram has no effect on the frequency of the intrusion...after 4 weeks my general doctor advised me to do a fast taper to 5mg. Withdrawal effects (2/3 weeks): neuro-emotions, lack of focus, crying spells, fatigue, muscle twitches in legs, cortisol spikes just before waking up July: Stable on 5 mg. Depression and intrusion lifted during holiday (lots of sunshine, long walks and relaxing) August: Drop down to 2,5 mg. Withdrawal effects (tinnitus, headagues) are noticeable, but still mild in comparison to the big drop earlier.
22th August: stopped escitalopram completely. Cortisol spikes just before waking up, still OCD (only temporary improvements), WD-depression and WD-neuro emotions.
Update 6 dec: no medication, any withdrawal symptoms not noticable. Taking supplements for intrusive thoughts and overall well being: N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) omega 3 fish oils, zinc, vitamin d, magnesium l-threonate, ginko biloba

Thanks for sharing , Susanne! This is related to drugs though, I am quite positive. It feels very chemical and fluctuates with drops.
I am glad you found a solution!
All the best, Amy

Yes I've had the same feeling of burning hot skin, tired, sore and painful muscles(feels like I've gotten beaten up) and shooting pain throughout my body. I've been to a ton of doctors all confused about what it could be. I was on 10 mg of Lexsoro for 15 years. I tapered over a 6 month period but am still stuck with physical withdrawal symptoms after 4 months of stopping. :/

Took 10 mg of Lexapro for 15 years. Started to taper in October 2015. Took last 1mg dose in March 2016. Started having side effects end of March 2016. Symptoms include: anxiety, heart palpitations, shaky, chronic fatigue, body feels like lead(so heavy), brain fog and dizziness and really bad pain especially on right side of body.

Symptoms as of 10/18/16- Burning skin, widespread body pain, some insomnia, some fatigue, some brain fog, anxiety upon waking up, numbing and tremor in pinky and ring finger on left hand, cracking/popping/stiff joints.

Amy, I'm beginning to think that I already was in tolerance at that time. And Lexapro was losing its efficacy. I was having all kinds of personal issues (work, illness, relationship) over which I could not stop thinking about and I did not know myself like that. Gave me a lot of stress in my body. I've never ever felt that burning sensation on my skin before. I know about lactic acid in the muscles and I know that my shoulder and wrist were suffering from Repetitive Strain Injury...but...it was such a weird and scary feeling. It wouldnt go away and made me hypochondriac ( wasnt used to that either). So a WD symptom...why not? It went through it and it is OK now, but it could explain what I was feeling.

All my life: Occasional panic attacks. 2003: Burnout 2004: intrusion (OCD'ish) / anxiety. Therapies: acupuncture, Chinese herbs, hypnotherapy --> symptoms were manageable (did return once in a while), depression lifted.
