Surviving Antidepressants has a Facebook page, and @survivingads has a Twitter feed.

The first 420 characters, including the topic title, of new topics in the Tapering, Media, Events, and Symptoms and What Helps forums are automatically posted on the Facebook page, with links to the full topic.

The first 140 characters of new topics in the Media, Events, and Journals forums are automatically posted on the Twitter page, with links to the full topic. Usually, this is part of the title of the topic, with the link.

Topics in the Introductions forum are not broadcast, and never will be.

The poster's screen name is not published, nor are any of the responses to the topics, on either Facebook or Twitter.

Broadcasting samples of new topics enables guests on Facebook and Twitter to find Surviving Antidepressants through the Facebook and Twitter search systems, which are parallel to the large search engines such as Google and Bing.

People clicking on links to this site in Facebook or Twitter can view topics only as guests. They have the same access, and the same view, as anyone finding this site through Google.

Surviving Antidepressants on Facebook has drawn friends who are looking for tapering and withdrawal syndrome information. We have some members who have found this site through Facebook.

@survivingads has followers from mental health bloggers and organizations, various kinds of therapists, alternative practitioners, and just plain folks who probably are seeking tapering or withdrawal syndrome information. It is an important avenue to getting the word out about developments such as Dr. Belaise's study on prolonged withdrawal syndrome and is key in our networking with like-minded sites and blogs.

Names of forums updated in post #1.

Here is a further clarification of this policy:

Only TITLES of NEW topics in SOME forums are posted to Twitter, with links to the topics on SurvivingAntidepressants.org.

Only TITLES and part of the first paragraph of NEW topics in SOME forums are posted to Facebook, with links to the topics on SurvivingAntidepressants.org.

Unless they are included by the original poster in topic titles or the first words of an initial post, screen names are NOT included in these posts on Twitter and Facebook. On Twitter and Facebook, there is no way to identify who started the topic.

In the Web world, some people spend a great deal of time on Twitter and Facebook and do not use Google or other search engines. They get all their information from Twitter and Facebook. Twitter and Facebook are considered alternatives to Google or the World Wide Web in general.

The forums in which new topic links are broadcast to Twitter and Facebook are

  • Tapering Posted to Facebook for the information of those searching for withdrawal information on Facebook. New topics in the Tapering forum usually are not personal -- requests for individualized support are moved to the Introductions or other forums.
  • Media Posted to Facebook and Twitter. New topics in the Media forum usually are about articles appearing elsewhere.
  • Events Posted to Facebook and Twitter. New topics in the Events forum usually are about events, petitions, suggestions for mass actions, etc. The new topics are broadcast as an aid to the action.
  • Symptoms and What Helps Posted to Facebook for the information of those searching for withdrawal information on Facebook. New topics in the Symptoms forum are of vital interest to those suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
  • Journals Posted to Twitter only. New topics in the Journal forum, which follow a strict format, refer to articles in scientific journals and usually contain no personal information.

Please consider this policy in your posting on this site.

Currently, SurvivingAntidepressants.org does not autopost to Twitter at all. It caused too much bot traffic.

The title and a a snippet of the first post of new topics in Current Events -- Success Stories, Events & Controversies, Journals, Media -- are automatically posted to the SurvivingAntidepressants.org Facebook page. If a reader of the Facebook page clicks on the link, he or she can read the topic on SurvivingAntidepressants.org.

Very rarely, moderators might move those new topics or posts to another forum, such as Introductions. In those cases, clicking on the Facebook link would allow the reader to view the topic in the Introductions forum. Otherwise, nothing in the Introductions forum is automatically posted to Facebook.

Autoposting to SurvivingAntidepressants.org Facebook page lets followers of our Facebook page, who are people a lot like everyone here, know the sorts of things we're talking about on this site.

This is a public site, to educate the public. That is why the Introductions forum is public. We go to a lot of trouble to make sure everyone's identity is protected by a pseudonym. This site is viewed by about 750,000 strangers per month. Unless a topic is in a member-only forum, it can be read from the Web.

Occasionally, posts from the Introductions forum or the rest of this site are manually posted on Twitter to demonstrate difficulties with polypharmacy, tapering, and withdrawal. This is in the interest of educating doctors and the general public. Reminder: Your identity is protected by your pseudonym.
