Hey JanCarol, I've been all over the place with this site. Still trying to figure it all out!  Please don't take my silence for lack of

enthusiasm.  I think it's a fantastic idea for a support group. For years I've been trying to find a support group, of some kind ,

but there were so many  issues  (with me ) , I didn't know  where to turn.  Sounds great, doesn't it!  Anyway, I think we've

got a few here, so let's do it . I agree with you, if our core group is strong, I think it will be fine.

Ang, I think if you have a support group there, you are lucky and should pursue it. It might be a godsend for you.

I think we are all lucky here, in that we have found each other , in the midst of madness. It just shows the human spirit

of survival and ingenuity! :)

Hi All ,   I'm feeling a teeny bit racy since my last decrease (lol) and have had another  scathingly brilliant idea.

Does anyone know how we would go about having a group Skype session for anyone who's interested?    Or could we open a chat-room once a week for an

hour and meet there?

Any thoughts?

July 2014 felt v.depressed - couldn't stop crying. Started pristiq 50mg. Felt improvement within days and continued to improve, so stayed on 50mg for 8 months.

That sounds interesting, Fresh. I would be in if I can work out the technical side of things, but I did skype with my daughter when she was overseas, so it's definitely on the cards.

Ang sez:

JanCarol:  We may attract some drama queens and nutbags but if our core group is strong, that won't shake it. Someones quote.

If you believe this, then perhaps you are not ready to start a group.  In my experience, the drama queens and nutbags are the ones who are apparently """well"..

I've spent enough time in "group therapy" to know - there is always one.  Isn't it true of all families - there's always one.  And some families are dense with needy drama queens and fringe incoherents.  And in any group with the word "psych" attached in any way, we will have a higher quorum of nuttiness.  Anyhow, in group therapy, if the leader is a wimp, the drama queen monopolizes all the conversation until it's all about her/him.  This can be helpful to the others, to think about problems other than their own - but you don't want it to be the pattern of the group.  That's a sure way to drive people off.

I mean no insult with my statement about drama queens, nutbags and nuttiness.  Personally, I'd rather be called a "nutbag" than a "bipolar," because it's a description of behaviour & speech, rather than a medical cubbyhole with a prescribed solution.  Having spent many years as a fringe, sometimes incoherent nutbag myself, and having as a result been attracted to men who were also quite the nutbags (one carried blocks of C4 everywhere he went, I was NEVER to touch his backpack.  NEVER.) and close friends who have had long journeys through the "system" and several dramatic, needy behaviours - and I haven't lost my boundaries yet.

I have no intention of turning anyone away - I feel much the same way you do - but you cannot let them be the ones to dominate the conversation - there will be many soft spoken Aussies who need encouragement to talk about this stuff.  When there's an explosion in the middle of the room at every get together (a drama queen) - nobody else gets help.  This is a group dynamic, I've seen it in music, religious, and political groups as well.

It's important that this be purely PEER support.  No Psychologists or Psychiatrists or even Social Workers allowed.

Back to Ang:

Why does it have to be an official sort of group?  Are you going to have a proper meeting, with an agenda and such?  Or just an informal get together in a coffee shop?  Or perhaps a half hour walk together in a park?

It doesn't have to be formal, in fact, if you make if Formal, you will lose people - they can get that at their pdocs etc.

Starting with coffee, or lunch, or park visits -

the only official part is, when we have a core group - opening it to the public.  When you do that, you need to be a little more reliable, like a set day of the month, or even "topics for discussion" or - in the case of drama queens and nutbags - a talking stick to control the conversation, so that everyone gets support.

I think there is a huge need for this, and I don't know if I can pull it off.  I'm not the most organized card in the file.  But - I have a dream.

Ali G, sez:

 For years I've been trying to find a support group, of some kind ,

but there were so many  issues  (with me ) , I didn't know  where to turn.

Oh, I've had interesting support groups, but they were always fringe.  A women's group that met once a month, did a bit of ritual, and shared our hearts.  That evolved into a sub-group - a dream group, where we met for lunch and exchanged our dreams and suggesting applications of the symbols and feelings there.  But all of the psych based ones have been uneven.  So uneven as to be not helpful.  I'm not sure how to fix that - if maybe they split us into (ugh) "functioning" levels, or even education, or maybe even age - it might have helped.  Group "therapy" was a waste of my time, because the patients, er, clients, er, consumers, ran roughshod over the spokesperson, and I knew more about what was going on than that educated professional spokesperson.

I've given this some thought, and of course, with input from whoever wants to participate, I think we can develop a way that everyone gets some benefit from the group.  Details would include - do we want a "spokesperson?" what would we want to call that person?  I would serve until the group was established, but be happy to step down if the group votes that way.  Do we meet monthly?  (that's my preference), what do we want to call the group?  Do we establish a set time and place, so that newcomers can find us?  Where will that be?  How much structure do you want?  Is this just a gab session?  Or do we each want to make sure that the talking stick goes around at least once, so that we can "check in" with what's happening?  What kinds of topics to you want to discuss?  Would we like to have "talks" - little 10 minute reports on whatever someone is studying (like, new reports that the antidepressants actually cause LESS serotonin, and work paradoxically to the way that "medicine" claims, or the use of inositol or L-arganine for sleep, or the uses of magnesium and epsom salts - my favorite!)

There are thousands of ways to approach this.  In my dream, I saw a little wooden church, fallen to disuse, that was now used by AA and us.  It was run down and shabby, but it was ours to use.  Of course, that was in my neighborhood, which might not suit for all of our different locations.

Fresh sez:

Does anyone know how we would go about having a group Skype session for anyone who's interested?

Have at it.  I know Ardyes has a Skype account.  I do not.  I would need remedial lessons for how to do that.  I've been intimidated every time.  Plus I don't wish to be seen.  If you set it up, post it here, and see how we go.

It might just be a social thing - but that's beneficial too, since, even if we have social activity in our lives - there aren't many of them who understand what we have been through, what we are going through, what we are trying to do.

A lifetime of being prescribed antidepressants that caused problems (30 years in total). At age 35 flipped to "bipolar," but was not diagnosed for 5 years. Started my journey in Midwest United States. Crossed the Pacific for love and hope; currently living in Australia.   CT Seroquel 25 mg some time in 2013.   Tapered Reboxetine 4 mg Oct 2013 to Sept 2014 = GONE (3 years on Reboxetine).     Tapered Lithium 900 to 475 MG (alternating with the SNRI) Jan 2014 - Nov 2014, tapered Lithium 475 mg Jan 2015 -  Feb 2016 = GONE (10 years  on Lithium).  Many mistakes in dry cutting dosages were made.

Currently Lithium Orotate 1.67 mg only.  I will re-evaluate this supplement in 2017.

I have been psych drug FREE since 1 Feb 2016!

Hi Everyone,

I just found the Australian forum. I live in the western suburbs of Brisbane.

[list]
[*]At 15 years was put on 50mg of Zoloft for generalized anxiety and panic disorder.
[*]2006 Tried to withdrawal from 50mg . Doctor told me I would have no trouble. I tampered over about a month (50mg-0) which left me with severe and debilitating withdrawal symptoms. Doctors put my dose up to 75mg mistaking my withdrawal symptoms as a relapse. Stayed on Zoloft 75mg since 2006.
March 2015- adverse reaction between Zoloft (75mg) an antibiotic and anti nausea drug resulting in debilitating symptoms/recovery identical to withdrawal. Have not altered or changed dose since 2006.

Welcome from me too scottly and NJJ   :) .

The Danish professor Prof Peter Gotzsche's presentation "Overdiagnosed and Overmedicated"  (Melbourne 2015)  is now on youtube.

Well worth watching , just plug his name and the title into youtube and it will come up.

JanCarol , do you think you would you be able to post the link with some info. in "In The Media" ? (one day I'll learn to post links)

His presentation sheds light on why we're all in the mess we are , why the medical profession is so slow on the uptake , and what

we need to do to initiate changes.

Easy to follow and just makes alot of sense , I'd rate it a 10 out of 10.

Hi Australian members,

It has come to my attention that Australia is in the midst of a nation wide shortage of Zoloft.  This appears to be a manufacturing issue at Pfizer and is expected to continue until Jan 2016 according to the Therapeutic Good Administration.

One option in this context is to try a generic brand.   I am trying to find out what brands are closest to Zoloft in terms of their non-active ingredients.  It may just be a case of trial and error for you.

I am also trying to find out if you can order Zoloft from overseas.   I think you are allowed to with a prescription but it may cost more if its not subsidised under the PBS.  This may be something someone can ask their Dr?

I offer an opinion based on my own experiences, reading and discussion with others.On Effexor for 2 months at the start of 2005. Had extreme insomnia as an adverse reaction. Changed to mirtazapine. Have been trying to get off since mid 2008 with numerous failures including CTs and slow (but not slow enough tapers)Have slow tapered at 10 per cent or less for years. I have liquid mirtazapine made at a compounding chemist.
Was on 1.6 ml as at 19 March 2014.
Dropped to 1.5 ml 7 June 2014. Dropped to 1.4 in about September.
Dropped to 1.3 on 20 December 2014. Dropped to 1.2 in mid Jan 2015.
Dropped to 1 ml in late Feb 2015. I think my old medication had run out of puff so I tried 1ml when I got the new stuff and it seems to be going ok. Sleep has been good over the last week (as of 13/3/15).
Dropped to 1/2 ml 14/11/15 Fatigue still there as are memory and cognition problems. Sleep is patchy but liveable compared to what it has been in the past.

Hi,

I originally made an appointment with Dr Purssey as I live in Brisbane but cancelled my appointment because I was sick. He was nice enough to respond to my emails and offered some advice before our session. It actually worked out well that I didn't see him purely because he said Dr Yolande Lucire had more expertise in regards to investigating my drug interaction. From memory it was about $390 a session and you get about $200 back from medicare, I think. He also asks that you fill out questionairs etc about your health before you visit. Hope that helps. Oh it was about a two week wait to get in.

Importing drugs might be a tricky business if there is an equivalent on the PBS, etc.  Doctors will likely not have experience in this - yes - it is legal, with proper Rx, but uncommon, and I'll bet there is significant red tape.

NJJ's article said "June 17" might be fixed?  But Dalsaan's info said Jan 2016?  I do have friends on sertraline, but I'm betting they are generic.  Switching brands of drugs can make a difference to those who are sensitive, as noted in the article.

IN OTHER NEWS, I get my car back tomorrow, and will be PMing to Brisbanites soon for a new coffee meet.  Anyone who has preferences, please PM me - I'd love to schedule it so that all possible can attend!

WOW NJJ - my shrink is a bargain at $200 then!  (but she doesn't do ACT or anything special, in fact, she doesn't even believe that psych drugs are harmful...but at least she lets me take charge of my own medical life.)

"Easy, easy - just go easy and you'll finish." - Hawaiian Kapuna

Holding is hard work, holding is a blessing. Give your brain time to heal before you try again.

My suggestions are not medical advice, you are in charge of your own medical choices.

The mobile.news article was written in May. Sounds like dalsaan's info. is more up to date.
I looked on the TGA website and couldn't find anything.

But . . .
I did find this about importing drugs here http://www.tga.gov.a...ortation-scheme

Personal Importation Scheme

Under the Personal Importation Scheme you may import a 3 month supply at the one time (at the maximum dose recommended by the manufacturer) of unapproved therapeutic goods into Australia without any approval required by the TGA provided that:

the goods are for your own treatment or the treatment of your immediate family; and
you do not supply (sell or give) the medicine to any other person; and
where possible, you keep the medicines or medical devices in their original packaging with any dispensing labels intact; and
the goods are not restricted under Australian Customs controls or quarantine rules and the goods do not contain a controlled substance; and
the goods are not injections that contain material of human or animal origin (except insulin); and
the total quantity of the goods imported within a 12 month period does not exceed 15 months supply of the goods (for medicines, at the maximum dose recommended by the manufacturer); and
if the goods are medicines in Schedule 4 or 8 of the Poisons Standard a prescription from an Australian-registered medical practitioner is held for the medicines.
You cannot import more than a 3 month supply at the one time under the personal importation scheme. If you wish to bring more than 3 months supply at the one time into Australia, an Australian-registered doctor will first need to apply to the TGA for Special Access Scheme approval.

When I was in India I found that meds. were dirt cheap. They may or may not be fake , but they're cheap , lol.

Maybe just a realisation that zoloft is poison, but that doesnt help those already addicted to it.

I only got generic brands,  I am presently trying to fill all my old prescriptions, so if anyone is stuck, happy to send you some....  I DONT USE IT ANYMORE.

Anyone stuck, just ask.

And just send me a photocopy or something of your prescription....... dont think they will lock me up.............. I aint sellin it, I give it away.

It just hit me when poor Tilly, was refused a prescription by an ignorant doctor, sent her into a tail spin.. How dare they get us addicted, then refuse to supply?  Hello Tilly!  Hugs xxx

Manufacturing problems?  bullsh*t?  Damn all those trials done in India, audited this year by the  honest European Union, conducted by France,  where 90% of of the drug trials WERE FRAUDULENT!!!! having an impact.   Good, but damn dont make us addicts suffer further.  They sold us bad drugs, we addicted now, dont make us suffer more as we try to kick the habit.

Sudden production problems, caused by not being able to verify their drug trial results............. that is the production problem.....   they cant recall the poisons, only try and get people on to other drugs............

Yes zoloft causes horrific birth defects, yes finally someone is listening, took damn 19 years!

Yes serious fraud here, by these big Drug Companies, I will meet them in hell one day!

You in USA, better start stashing your pills..... Australia>UK  and European Union/NZ  are close........... buddies..... so to speak.

USA?  Start stashing your pills, cause this will filter thru to USA>  just takes time.

19 years ago, I didnt want to sue zoloft for my babys horrific birth defects, I just wanted people to know not to take it..........19 damn years later, they suing in USA, nice to see they had an impact.  Now it has sudden production problems? omg?  Trials done in India, proven falsified, Jan 2015...(easier to fake results in India, obviously)........  and damn 19 years it has taken.......I could not believe that my reports to Australias TGA, were somehow missing, and had to do another 19 damn years after Stevens death.................corruption greed, and bullsh*t,  I am a damn pathologist, I know what killed my baby, yet after 19 years?  no mention anywhere in Australias TGA?  Get real!  Zoloft heart defect baby.  I grew up with thalidomide babies, I would never take drugs while pregnant, but damn it was a vasectomy failure............... and damn they said no birth defects reported from Zoloft use  (INTERPRETATION, THAT PURPOSELY EXCLUDED WOMEN OF CHILD BEARING AGE FROMTH E TRIALS)>   I was one of the first human guinea pigs, yes I am angry, yes I am upset.......... how they lie and deceive............. no birth defects noted  +  no pregnant women ever took the drug. FRAUD AND ABHORRENT FRAUD.

  I WILL MEET THEM IN HELL!

Thankyou so much, however I am hoping you can change the wording on the report for Steven.  It sounds as if the tegretol was taken for longer than the zoloft, this was not the case.  Tegretol was stopped immediately, zoloft tapered.

It should read Ceased tegretol at 2 weeks after missed period  (ie about 4 weeks gestation)  The zoloft was tapered and ceased by 8 weeks

Thankyou so much

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Australian Adverse Drug Reactions Database held by the TGA holds details of Australian reports of suspected reactions to drugs received since the 1 November 1972. The majority of these reports were submitted voluntarily by Australian doctors, dentists and pharmacists. It should be noted that reporting of a suspected adverse reaction does not necessarily imply a causal relationship.
As the data is mainly ‘voluntary’ it is influenced by selection processes subject to major, and to a large extent unknown, biases. Some of these influencing factors include: extent of drug use, source of reports, status of the drug, severity of reaction and prior knowledge of the drug.
Therefore, caution should be exercised when comparisons are made between the number of reports implicating different drugs used for similar purposes, or between reports of reactions to various brands of the same drug. Incidence cannot be reliably calculated based on data gathered from a spontaneous reporting program.
Drug safety monitoring is a dynamic process and the numbers of reports of each reaction type will alter following any new information on existing reports and new reports being received. A single report may contain one or more adverse drug reactions
I understand this is very distressing topic for you. I'm sorry about your loss of Steven. It's devastating
In your last post you disclosed your name and email address. Are you sure you want to do that?
Please note - I am not a medical practitioner and I do not give medical advice. I offer an opinion based on my own experiences, reading and discussion with others.On Effexor for 2 months at the start of 2005. Had extreme insomnia as an adverse reaction. Changed to mirtazapine. Have been trying to get off since mid 2008 with numerous failures including CTs and slow (but not slow enough tapers)Have slow tapered at 10 per cent or less for years. I have liquid mirtazapine made at a compounding chemist.
Was on 1.6 ml as at 19 March 2014.
Dropped to 1.5 ml 7 June 2014. Dropped to 1.4 in about September.
Dropped to 1.3 on 20 December 2014. Dropped to 1.2 in mid Jan 2015.
Dropped to 1 ml in late Feb 2015. I think my old medication had run out of puff so I tried 1ml when I got the new stuff and it seems to be going ok. Sleep has been good over the last week (as of 13/3/15).
Dropped to 1/2 ml 14/11/15 Fatigue still there as are memory and cognition problems. Sleep is patchy but liveable compared to what it has been in the past.
Re the shortage issue. I think Pfizer sell their own generic Zoloft called Sertraline Pfizer. The listed ingredients are the same. It doesn't appear on the medicines shortage list so it may actually be available. If you are on Zoloft it's worth asking your gp or pharmacist about the generic Pfizer as a replacement for Zoloft
Ingredients
Zoloft contains 50 mg or 100 mg of sertraline as the active ingredient.
http://www.nps.org.a...uct-description
It also contains:
cellulose (microcrystalline)
calcium hydrogen phosphate
hydroxypropyl cellulose
sodium starch glycollate
magnesium stearate
White Opadry
Clear Opadry.
Hello, I have been rediredcted to you, to correct my report submitted recently.  I tried to correct the wrong report, but I have heard nothing about the corrected report, please advise.  I have asked, to no avail.   I keep meticulous records.......... I await a response.
RE: the death of Steven James OFFER                   I DEMAND THE FINAL REPORT
When I stupidly trusted Dr Booth?   I took drugs, and he said give up tegretol immediately if you should fall pregnant, but zoloft is not listed as causing birth defects, that is fine!!!!!!!!
I gave up Tegretol immediately (as all the reports of that era,  said Tegretol causes birth defects)
Hower I tapered zoloft over 8-10 weeks, as the reports said ZOLOFT HAS NOT SHOWN ANY BIRTH DEFECTS..  My psychiatrist  said to give up Tegretol immediately if I were to fall pregnant, he mentioned that Zoloft has no known birth defects problems....   HOW DISGUSTING!
I was brought up in the thalidomide era, a local kid had no arms or legs...................   no way would I take drugs during pregnancy, but damn the gp messed up, the vasectomy didnt work!
I want that report,   I want to know what happened to my report 19 damn years ago!
I reported that effexor caused me to be semi manic, to lose my marriage, blah, blah, blah....  yep I got my report in two days./ allcorrect as reported.........
The report my second report on birth defects caused by zoloft?  the report was completely wrong, blaming tegretol, when I clearly said I gave up tegretol immediately... I ask for the report to be fixed, and another copy of the report to be sent?
Nothing, just the usual, it is all secret bullsh*t.   But now?  No Zoloft in Australia, weird that?
I want that new edited report, despite it suddenly being sent by someone "higher up the chain"...  someone more senior who quotes some secrecy bullsh*t.
ie you feel sick, you  act manic, you lose  your life savings, etc,   that goes to a lower level,,, you get the report.
Now when it gets to zoloft use in first trimester, caused heart defects, in my newborn? ****************************************And I reported it 19 years ago, and that report went missing?????????? Now higher up the chain, and the SECOND REPORT 19 years later... is completely wrong...  Damn I want the report to be right.     I clearly said the only drug I was on was Zoloft, yet the report is wrong, I said it was wrong, wanted corrections, and damn 4 weeks? No reply???
Sick of this crap.
They are obviously panicking, cause I reported this 19 damn years ago, and Australian TGA either threw the report in the bin, or now embarrassed cause they found it 19 years too damn late!  god i hope so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!      I want a copy of my original report, 19 damn years ago, on the death of my baby caused by zoloft use first trimester....... You TGA have got It... I want it.
Dalsan
Thank you for letting me know about the zoloft shortage, I was panicking because I had trouble with the generic. One pharmacist told me I had a psychological issue with generic brands, but when it happened It didn't even cross my mind about taking a different brand, but I certainly felt strange, then weeks later I put two and two together. I contacted Pfizer Australia and they recon its a global problem because the main ingredient has been hard to source or something along those lines. I called heaps of chemists and found one online pharmacy that has 50 boxes of Pfizer left. I feel like an addict.
[list]
[*]At 15 years was put on 50mg of Zoloft for generalized anxiety and panic disorder.
[*]2006 Tried to withdrawal from 50mg . Doctor told me I would have no trouble. I tampered over about a month (50mg-0) which left me with severe and debilitating withdrawal symptoms. Doctors put my dose up to 75mg mistaking my withdrawal symptoms as a relapse. Stayed on Zoloft 75mg since 2006.
March 2015- adverse reaction between Zoloft (75mg) an antibiotic and anti nausea drug resulting in debilitating symptoms/recovery identical to withdrawal. Have not altered or changed dose since 2006.
