Hi Katie , welcome to the site.

Can you tell us a bit more about the sensations that "feel as if all my muscles are moving all the time , from my feet to my head"  ?

Did you have this on your previous dose of 4.7mg?   Or in the past?

This topic may be moved to the Introduction section , where it will your personal thread.

Good to have you here ,  Fresh

Sept. 2012 -decreased 90mg in 6months. Care taken over by Dr Lucire in March 2013 , decreased last 30mg at 2mg per week over 3 months. July 21 , 2013- last dose of Cymbalta

Protracted withdrawal syndrome kicked in badly Jan.2014 Unrelenting akathisia until May 2014. Voluntary hosp. admission. Cocktail of Seroquel, Ativan and mirtazapine and I was well enough to go home after 14 days. Stopped all hosp. meds in next few months.

July 2014 felt v.depressed - couldn't stop crying. Started pristiq 50mg. Felt improvement within days and continued to improve, so stayed on 50mg for 8 months.

Began taper 28 Feb. 2015. Pristiq 50mg down to 45mg. Had one month of w/d symptoms. Started CES therapy in March. No w/d symptoms down to 30mg.

Yes, this all sounds too familiar. Pain across the shoulders and pins and needles in the feet, shins, hands, and forearms for me.  Before Paxil, I was healthy, strong, and never experienced anything like the pain I live with every day and night. Before finding this site, I had no idea these sx’s could be related to SSRI w/d and complained to my family MD, who ordered blood work (everything came back neg) and an MRI (to rule out MS) which of course was negative as well. I have been living with these sx's for so long (as I have tried and failed to quit Paxil so many times in the last few years) they're just a part of my life. Like KatieB, I feel old - but DETERMINED to get off of this drug.

2003 - Paxil 30mg

2007 - Titrated down to 10mg, then experienced severel w/d sx's so reinstated med

2008 through 2015 - Attempted to quit Paxil numerous times but reinstated med each time b/c of w/d symptoms

Jan 2015- Titrated to Paxil 15mg

Hi Fresh .The sensation is very weird.I have experienced a mild version if youlike before but only in my head.It felt like everything inside was pulsing and fluttering. This was approx 3 months ago.The latest one which has come along with the pain is or feels the same but everywhere in my body and much stronger

I had a bath one evening trying to soak my aching body and went to lie down in bed hoping to be relaxed

Not so.I felt as if some one was underneath the bed pushing up and all over my body it was so strong I was convinced the bed was moving ,but my husband was lying next to me and felt nothing.

Been taking paroxatine for approx 15 years.Tried a few times yo stop but failed. Am currently on 3.5mg liquid

Jan 2016 been slow tapering paroxatine and i am currently at 2.9 mg and last drop was 5 weeks ago.

Started to feel awful about 3 weeks ago with brain ???? , shakes, blurred vision and dizzyness. ..

I am now taking 1.58ml which equals 3.15 mg of paroxatine liquid. This is my second week of this from dropping from 1.6ml which I stayed on for about 7 weeks because I had to make a trip overseas to see family and didn't want to drop before I went. Each drop I usually stay for 4 weeks depending on how I feel. I would like to maybe cut the amount of weeks but I'm not too sure.

Thanks Katie.    I'm wondering if you're describing low-grade akathisia.    People describe it as  a jitteriness under the skin , like pulsing or fluttering. A low-grade

electrical current coursing through the head or body.  When I had it , I felt my feet were "dancing on the inside".

It is a recognized symptom of withdrawal here on SA.    For this reason , I'd be inclined to hold each cut for longer , rather than rushing through them.  Decreasing

quicker is more likely to precipitate the development of akathisia , if it's already started.

Try taking magnesium , and/or adding Epsom salts to your bath.

Look around in "Symptoms and Self Care"    for more suggestions.

Please note - I am not a medical practitioner and I do not give medical advice. I offer an opinion based on my own experiences, reading and discussion with others. On Effexor for 2 months at the start of 2005. Had extreme insomnia as an adverse reaction. Changed to mirtazapine. Have been trying to get off since mid 2008 with numerous failures including CTs and slow (but not slow enough tapers)Have slow tapered at 10 per cent or less for years. I have liquid mirtazapine made at a compounding chemist.

Was on 1.6 ml as at 19 March 2014.

Dropped to 1.5 ml 7 June 2014. Dropped to 1.4 in about September.

Dropped to 1.3 on 20 December 2014. Dropped to 1.2 in mid Jan 2015.

Dropped to 1 ml in late Feb 2015. I think my old medication had run out of puff so I tried 1ml when I got the new stuff and it seems to be going ok. Sleep has been good over the last week (as of 13/3/15).

Dropped to 1/2 ml 14/11/15 Fatigue still there as are memory and cognition problems. Sleep is patchy but liveable compared to what it has been in the past.

DRUG FREE - as at 1st May 2017

hi katie - i had instense shoulder and neck pain like you describe, but mine ended up being a frozen shoulder.  do you have a full range of motion in your shoulder or is it reducing?

Started in 2000 - On 150mg most of the time, (but up to 225mg at highest dose for 6 months in the beginning)
Reduced off easily first time - but got depressed (not too much anxiety) 6 months later
Back on effexor for another 9 months.
Reduced off again with no immediate w/d - suddenly got depressed and anxious ++ again 3 or 4 months later.
Back on effexor - this time for 3 years
Reduced off over a month - 6 weeks later terrible anxiety - back on.
Rinse and repeat 4 more times - each time the period before the anxiety comes back got shorter and shorter
Jan - July 2012 75mg down to 37.5mg;, 8/3/12 - 35mg. 8/25/12 - 32mg. 9/11- 28mg, 10/2 - 25mg, 10/29 - 22mg, 11/19 - 19.8mg; 12/11 - 17m,
1/1- 15.5mg; 1/22 -14mg, 2/7 14.9mg, 2/18 - 17.8mg - crashed big time: back to 75mg where i sat for 2 years....

4th  March 2015 - 67.5mg;   31st March - 60mg;  24th April - 53mg; 13th May - 48mg; 26th May - 45mg;  9th June - 41mg; 1 July- 37.5mg; 20 July - 34mg; 11 August - 31mg; 1st Sept - 28mg;  1st Dec - 25.8mg;  28th Dec - 23.2mg; 23rd Jan-21.9mg; Feb 7th- 21mg; March 1st - 20.1mg, March 30th - 18mg

I am 31 months off Paxil after taking it for 12 years. I had serious muscle pain, weakness, tingling, twitches and tremors until about 6 months ago. They thought I had MS but MRI ruled that out. Most of those issues are gone but now dealing with major chemical sensitivity and just feel sick all the time. I pray one day I will heal. Hope you feel better soon!

12 year on Paxil 20mg. Dropped to 5mg a few years before weaning, Was on 5mg weaned over a few months and then went off Aug 15, 2012. Severe withdrawal started Nov 2012 and have been slowly recovering. Have had all physical symptoms especially muscle, immune and food sensitivities!

I was suffering ALOT from burning neck/shoulder pain .. my muscles were very stiff, bascially cramping and i would get lots of lockness in my limbago and upper back (like neck) .. its painful and really scary, I havent had burning neck/shoulder now for around 8 months amnd im so thankful for that! I had them for a few months, and they got much much worse after someone would give me a neck massage , the massage would trigger this alot.. now days when i get massage it helps to relax my muscles.

Lifting weights helped me with the pain- it was bad in my back, firearms, thighs and butt for about 3 months. 9 months later I still get back pain and some random knee pain. Tiger balm patches also worked wonders. It will get better- I remember all those terrible nights waking up in pain. You just have to stick it out...

Diagnosed bi-pollar II in 2003 at age 15.

Lithium, lexapro and seroquel for the next 8 years, with occasional klonopin.

Quit seroquel cold turkey in 2011.

1st unsuccessful attempt to stop ALL meds cold turkey- 2012

Switched to lithium, citalopram and adderall (only on adderall for a few weeks).

Cold turkey off EVERYTHING Feb 2014.

Previous symptoms; crying spells, suicidal depression and hopelessness (3 months). Frequent urination and chocolate, allergy medicine and food sensitivities (3 months). Body pain radiating through my spine, legs, arms and butt followed by muscle stiffness, weakness and tingling/loss of feeling (7 months). Brain zaps, head aches and intense depersonalization. Fight or flight upon waking and difficulty sleeping (2 months). Difficulty regulating body temperature-incredibly cold hands and feet (8 months). Diarrhea and difficulty eating (lost over 30 pounds). Acute and itchy acne? on my forehead, cheeks and chest (7 months).

Current symptoms: anxiety, obsessive compulsions, feeling stuck/unable to act/shocked, pain along my spine, hair loss, easily stressed and overwhelmed, difficulty with social situations, generally moody.

I just read another thread where someone says that people who have physiological symptoms as well as phychological ones are the hardest ones to recover from ad wds...???

attachicon.gifAboutClay Brochure.pdf

I already take magnesium 800 mg before bed, and vit C 3000 .

Have you tried clay as a detox? http://www.aboutclay.com I noticed a difference in brain fog within 6 hours after my first dose of edible Zeolite clay which is also good for treating radioation exposure which is happeing to all of us from Fukushima. Bentonite clay & iodine too. http://www.fukushimafacts.com see also http://www.greenclays.com/ & for Euorpe http://www.zeolith-bentonit-versand.de/en/?___from_store=de Bicarbonate of soda is very good de-tox, also safe replacement of mercury fillings by advance dentist, filtering your water, & using non-fluoride toothpaste will ease the burden of toxicity. http://drsircus.com/

Hi Temperance... I have tried most things but not clay cause i read something about it long ago I did not like it takes the good out of your body .... minerals or something like that... I was wondering if you have tried it if you have could you do an update please

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

TMJ tightness is one of my bad places. I have been grinding my teeth in my sleep and recently broke a crown. Now using a mouth guard from Walmart while sleeping and it seems to be helping me sleep better and less tension in that area.

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

56 years old

btdt-- clay will not detox a drug modified brain, but it will draw a lot of the nutrients and minerals out of your body and make a sensitive person even sicker.  Our brains and bodies are in such a state of chaos that the last thing we need to be doing to them is forcing chemicals in and out of them willie nillie.  In the case of radiation poisoning the clay draws out the dead cells and associated chemicals so the body may repair it self faster, likewise in cases of chemical toxicity, but at the same time it draws out the nutrients and minerals that the body needs to run and repair itself.  So it is a two edged sword it may help you get better, but it will make you sick at the same time.  Clay is one of those things that people think, "because it is natural it is safe" when in fact it needs to be used with great care, for short periods of time and with great caution.  Personally I would avoid this and any other form detox, they are treatments that we just don't need while in WD.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Paxil start September 2003 due to Fluoroquinolone adverse reaction that I wish doc. knew what it was. 10mg. most of the time with a few short runs of 20mg. FAST tapered 3 times and finally hit poop out or a reaction to nsaid's in Nov.2013. Started a 10% taper Jan. 2014 and have been ok until Sept 14 and went through a short hell. Now plodding through and looking for the light with unrelenting insomnia and pain, fog, loss of interests....<p>12/20/14 - .8mg.

1/01/15 - .75 mg.

1/15/15 - .42 mg. better sleep now, hope it continues...

2/11-15 - .25 mg. doing really good!! 2 weeks feel 85% of old me!

3/17/15 .14 mg. Knee pain bad!

4/07/15 .05 mg. this is so small now that I am estimating and just licking it off palm small as a "."

4/13/15 NOTHING !!!! Took my last little micro dose on 4/12/15.

have it myself, all the time. pain, twitching, together, separately, legs, arms, you name it. minor pains & spasms, major spasms. little twitches, big twitches, in between.

fortunately I can tolerate Aleve. or Tylenol.

one thing I am noticing is helpful (with anxiety, sorry, switching topic mid-sentence) is micro-movements. like wiggling my toes, massaging my fingers.

2002: "Situational depression" 2002-2010:Prozac.Birth Control.2011 Short trials: Paxil, Celexa, Lexipro, Wellbutrin, Xanax, Ativan- Gee, Doc never mentioned protracted AD wd syndrome. Imagine that. 2011-2015. Lamictal. Seroquel. Remiron. 2012: "Complex post traumatic stress disorder." Fast taper of Remiron jumped off June 2013. So sorry you are going through that. I massage my legs and arms with Arnica gel (natural product)knocks out my leg pain but yours sound pretty intense. I haven't had the twitching so don't know if it would help with that or not. Hope you can find some help. I used to have Restless Legs Syndrome and that uncontrollable jumping legs was really miserable, yours is so much worse. Wondering

Trazodone 150-300 nightly

Ambien CR. 3-5 times a week

Taking Klonopin crossing over to Valium started 6-25-15

It is a symptom of withdrawal but I also suffered with it as a side effect of effexor, it's very uncomfortable and the spasms are so painful.

I take magnesium but double the recommended daily amount at night and it helps some. And epsom salts baths, they are amazing but I put

3-4 cups full in the bath, 20 minutes soak and I can feel the tension ebbing away.

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

Different drugs occasionally (mostly benzos) 1976 - 1981 (no problem)

1993 - 2002 in and out of hospital. every type of drug + ECT. Staring with seroxat

2002  effexor.

Tapered  March 2012 to March 2013, ending with 5 beads.

Withdrawal April 2013 . Reinstated 5 beads reduced to 4 beads May 2013

Restarted taper  Nov 2013

OFF EFFEXOR Feb 2015    :D

Tapered atenolol and omeprazole Dec 2013 - May 2014

Tapering tramadol, Feb 2015 100mg , March 2015 50mg

 July 2017 30mg.  May 15 2018 25mg

Taking fish oil, magnesium, B12, folic acid, bilberry eyebright for eye pressure.

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible

Please keep in mind that doctors only test your blood magnesium, potassium ,calcium etc. only 1 percent of the magnesium in your body is actually in your blood. You could test in normal range and still be deficient. Your body will do whatever it has to to keep normal mineral levels in your blood so you don't die. I would try the magnesium anyway. I notice that the glycinate and malate forms works well. The others upset me and cause GI issues.

Lovosun, how much magnesium are you taking and what kind?

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

Hi mammaP. I just wondered, how much magnesium are you taking? My magnesium tablets are 250mg and I seem to do better on 500mg than on 250mg but I wonder if this is a bit high? I wondered how many mg you take? Thanks.

These are the ones I take, the recommended dose is 2 capsules daily, I take 4 at night.  I am a bit confused by the mgs as there are 2.

100 and 555 so I've taken a photo of the bottle, maybe it makes sense to others!

Thanks mammaP. I think your dose is 100mg which you're taking 4 of so 400mg. It has 25% of daily dose next to the 100mg so I think this must be the dose.

Hi all,

did anybody else get painful legs in withdrawal? I think it's the veins, but I'm not sure.

Could that be my blood sugar being off? Or just the fact that I'm sitting on the couch more?

It really hurts and I'm worried that it's something that I should be addressing. My doctor obviously stopped listening to me.

Thanks a bunch,

Laura

Feb 2015 Took venlafaxine for 5 days only... experienced withdrawal that made me completely non-functional

Mar 2015 took under 1mg of Sertraline for 10 days in an attempt to combat Venlafaxine withdrawal. Got adverse reactions.

After stopping Sertraline, withdrawal got much worse. New, horrific symptoms.

June 2015 Still non-functional but slowly getting better. Still brain zaps, migraines, sweating, heart racing, depression, crying spells

September 2015: 24/7 brain zaps, twitches in the face, no concentration, bad memory, language skills deteriorating.

Hi Laura,

Yes, I've felt increased pressure in the veins in my legs..which has caused pain. In one leg, I've developed varicose veins..that I never had before wd. I read somewhere it's another symptom that is sometimes related to coming off the meds. I've had more pain in general in my legs too, which is not related to activity..but just comes and goes.

Remeron for depression. Started at 7.5 mg. in 2005. Gradual increases over 8 years, up to 45 mg. in 2012.Began tapering in June 2013. Went from 45 to 30 mg in the first 3-4 months. Held for a couple of months.Started tapering by 3.75 mg every month or 2, with some longer holding periods. Eventually went down to 3.75 mg. about April 2014. Stopped taking Remeron August 2014. Developed issues with histamine a week after stopping--symptoms reduced through diet and a few supplements. Currently having issues with a few foods. Most of the histamine intolerance has resolved or is at least, in remission.

Current Medications:

Current Supplements: Cannabis (CBD and THC), Vitamin C, D, Quercetin, CoQ10, Tart Cherry, Probiotic, Phytoplankton oil, magnesium, Methyl B. What has helped me most: spending time in nature, qi gong, exercise, healthy diet, meditation, IV vitamins, homeopathy, massage, acupuncture, chiropractic, music, and cuddling my cats..
