...and Idk why my phone changed d*ck Decent's name like that... Lol

Zoloft 100 mg. daily for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since Oct. 1994 / Synthroid 88 mcg. daily / Supplements: Neptune Krill Oil-1,000 mg. twice daily/Astaxanthin 10 mg. twice daily/Ubiquinol 100 mg. twice daily (These 3 have allowed me to discontinue (approved by doctor) bp meds I was on. Calcium Citrate 500 mg. daily/Vitamin D3 2,400 iu daily/K2 (MK7) 100 mcg daily (osteopenia and fam. hist. of severe osteoporosis). Stress B Complex (1/2 dose)/Quercetin (for allergies/asthma)/Magnesium (400 mg. oral glycinate and about 50 mg. magnesium chloride spray oil a day, divided throughout day).

Tapered Zoloft about 6 wks. Totally off since the end of July (25-29, 2014). 3 wks. vertigo at end of taper, then 3-4 wks. OK, followed by withdrawal symptoms increasing in severity (nausea, gastric disturbances, loss of appetite, insomnia, restlessness, jitters, anxiety, agitation--jumping out of my skin--possible akathisia?) Seem to have paradoxical reactions to everything new, even Vitamin C. Severity of akathisia comes and goes, but is constant to some degree. Hard to leave house, and cannot be home alone. (Retired)

JDM, glad you were able to sleep better. I had two nights with practically NO sleep. Last night, I also actually got more sleep than I have since this whole withdrawal thing started!!

btd--yes, (fluoro)quinolones cause mito damage. I'm not real clear on whether this happens to everyone. We had a guy on the boards who was doing "research", but he was very negative--insisting no one ever gets better (not true), and no one could really get him to reveal his credentials. We had a group of about 50 go to D.C. in May, trying to raise awareness. They spoke at a meeting of the Senate Health Committee. This guy was one of the key speakers. Don't really know if he hurt or helped us. The fluoroquinolones were also originally developed for chemotherapy. There are people who have been through chemo, though, that don't have the damage FQ's cause. Quite a few recover to 90% to 95%, and then some relapse, like my daughter did. Some don't get that much recovery, and some die or commit suicide. d*ck Decent (part-time keyboard player for the band Def Lepard) died in 2012, after a 2-year battle. The boards are on FB, and are mostly closed groups.

That is fantastic about your sleep!!! Good good sign!!! The FQ toxicity crap scares the sh*t out of me. But, I bet since your daughter got that much better, she will again.

At the last link.. search the page for mitochondria...

Prozac and a few other ssri drugs were known to cause damage to the mitochondria in humans several years ago as a lot of the ssri snri drugs we use today were not yet invented the old report I found 5 or so years ago could not have included newer drugs.  I would not be surprised to find other types of Ads have the same effect... many statin drugs have been found to cause the same sort of damage... if your interested you can find that at spacedoc.com or org... he was a doctors who worked for NASA who was affected and started research to figure that one out.. I was on a statin too.. will never take them again... or a quinoline...

Seems it could that the common thread is damage to the mitochondria... I have made other posts about this sort of damage on P******.and here

it was a post talking to a lady about mitochondria damage that was the last post I made on pp... it got me banned... that and the argument about it this lady named ... will fill in when I recall.. Anne... said she had been dx with mito damage and thought that was the cause of her fibro... and she seen a doc in the UK who said it was from ssri drugs... and she was being treated... so I about lost my nut when I heard from her as I thought I had found something to heal me maybe... but her and my posts from that day were all deleted... and I was banned I don't know if she was or not.

I am wondering if this post above was in some way blocked from your thread as I did not see any acknowledgement and I think it could be important... please if you see it just acknowledge that it did in fact show up in the thread... thx

Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

btdt--the link is to what I always called our "main board". It is the one that is not closed, and the one my daughter and I discovered when she was 4 months out from taking Cipro. It was very helpful, and led us to the other (closed) groups, which we mainly post in now.

Here is a link from spacedoc.com he says people are working on mitochondrial damage and some people do not recover.  The focus of this particular article is pain management and exercise.

http://www.spacedoc.com/pain_relief_vital_statin_damaged

He says statins stop the body from being able to use - statin inhibition of CoQ10 I am not sure if the quinolins cause mito damage in the same way but if they did it seems this doctor has a line on people doing what he calls.... multi-disciplined research teams are working out the details of mitochondrial repair and maintenance. Some of this new research centers on the benefit of exercise which stimulates mitochondrial genesis.

Perhaps these research folks have information on how to help heal this maybe if your group wanted to contact them it may help them.

He signs off

Duane Graveline MD MPH

Former USAF Flight Surgeon
Former NASA Astronaut
Retired Family Doctor

He may just know what he is talking about at least he is a doctor who believes in this form of drug damage.

JDM,

I posted this in the Cipro thread.

Thought you may be interested.

Here is the post with the link to the mp3

Anyway another drug called Lariam in the Cipro family line has been found to cause permanent brain damage. They have found lesions on the brain stem and other regions of the brain from Lariam. Lariam is mostly used for people going to high Malaria areas.

Listen to this mp3 interview

http://www.katherine...rchives/?page=6 scroll down to the oct 11 radio show.

"Dr. Remington Nevin // Malaria // Mefloquine // Lariam //

Remington and Katherine discuss some of the horrific side effects of Mefloquine (Lariam) and why many people call it the "crazy pill".  It is amazing.  If anyone you know is looking at anti-malarial drugs please research this one VERY carefully before even considering taking it."

Back to Cipro. Check out this site.

It it horrific what happened to this man after taking Cipro. His story makes antidepressants look tame in comparison.

http://www.ciproispo...2_My-Story.html

Prozac 1999-2009 quit semi cold turkey.

2012 Placed on Seroquel 25 mg, Tranxene (Clorezepate) 3.75 mg 3x a day, Remeron 30 mg for anxiety/akathesia.

Weaned off Seroquel and Tranxene .to Remeron 15 Mg.

In May 2014 tried quitting Remeron at its lowest dose. Had severe withdrawals.Reinstated Remeron at 30 mg by doctor. August 5 2014 entered hospital. Doctor pulled the Remeron and bridged it to Pamelor (Nortriptyline) 40mg and Zyprexa 2.5mg.After removing the Remeron all my bad symptoms went away and I am stable.

Mefloquine was given to soldiers without consent.

Did we poison our Somalia soldiers?
Worthington, Peter
Toronto

Back in October, CTV's W5 aired an intriguing item about mefloquine, the anti-malaria drug our soldiers took in Somalia - and still take in malaria-prone areas - which has side-effects that have caused the drug to be re-examined in other parts of the world.

Many believe mefloquine may have been responsible for some of the bizarre behavior of our troops in Somalia, since the drug was still in experimental stages in 1992 and not legally sold in Canada. W5discovered that when the now-disbanded Airborne Regiment was sent to Somalia, Health Canada sanctioned the use of mefloquine (under the brand name Lariam, manufactured by Hoffman-La Roche) only on condition it was a controlled study with soldiers monitored and effects recorded.

None of this was done. As we now know, side-effects can lead to severe psycho-neurological problems. Dr. Michelle Brill-Edwards, a Health Canada drug regulator, quit in protest of possible dangerous psychiatric reactions - full-blown psychoses in cases, as well as hallucinations, nausea, nightmares, paranoia and suicidal impulses.

Thanks for all the info. Yes, a large part of Gulf War Syndrome is believed to be Cipro Toxicity as well, although there were other drugs given that are also suspect.

Thanks chicken,

I have taken it several times. Once in college for a chest infection, made me quacky. Had no idea then. But I was also jacked up on all kinds of over the counter cold meds and had been given a steroid shot because I couldn't breathe well. So I was high as a freaking kite.

you know, I feel like I need to change the channel, and get away from here for a while. But, when I try to, it never lasts long. Maybe because I am in the beginning stages of this. Who knows.

I'm going to try it for a week, and see how it goes. Like a fast. I feel like I'm in some kind of negative feedback loop and my being here is perpetuating it. I already have a tendency to ruminate, and be a bit obsessive. I guess this comes from 25 years of never feeling safe because of growing up with emotional and physical abuse. I'm always looking for the next shoe to drop on my head, always trying to dodge the next catastrophic event, always on the lookout. I don't want to live like this. I can't say this WD has helped much with this.

Anyways, I'm going to try my hardest to stay off of here for a while. It is a fantastic resource, but because of my own tendencies, it is fueling my anxiety.

It's all part of withdrawal. I think once you start to feel a little better, you won't come on the board so much.

Be careful what you read, it fuels withdrawal.

Thinking of you.

Question,

Anyone with Benzo experience

Please do not post anything negative! If you had a disaster with a Benzo, please, spare me. I'm not in a position to process that.

I just have noticed that on certain days when I take the Ativan I feel calmer for a few hours. This is bizarre because I have been at this dose for like six months and until that last week, I felt NOTHING when I took it.

Is this because my nervous system is more sensitive, and if so why doesn't this phenomenon happen everyday? It's like 3 out of 7 days.

I'm at a loss.

Again! No horror stories. I'm in a delicate place. Thank you! ????

Yes. I had a CT switch from Lexepro to Effexor after six years in April. And then a rapid taper off Effexor due to bad reaction in July. So, have been off AD since July.

I don't know either;but people survive, I survived.

I am so sorry you are going through this hell.

You are barely 4 months off. That isn't much for AD wd.In fact, you are in early wd, and it can be very very tough.

The symptoms you describe, I've had them all.Hell 24/7

SURVIVAL MODE;just focus on getting through the day (and night)

"This too shall pass"...this was my mantra for the first 2 years.

And it did. After 28 long and hellish months, I can say I am MUCH MUCH better.Horror days are now behind me.

Advice: get the book "Recovery and Renewal" by Bliss Johns.

Hang in there, it WILL get better.

(Retired)
