I wonder how hellish these will be to taper off:

Depression and the Development of Novel Medications (an upcoming Twitter chat)

Psychotropic drug history: Pristiq 50 mg. (mid-September 2010 through February 2011), Remeron (mid-September 2010 through January 2011), Lexapro 10 mg. (mid-February 2011 through mid-December 2011), Lorazepam (Ativan) 1 mg. as needed mid-September 2010 through early March 2012

Ketamine is a dissociative psychedelic used medically as a veterinary and human anaesthetic

One of the newer treatments in vogue. Whose bright idea was that? We'll see the longer it gets used and if I remember correctly, it is also a drug of abuse.

I am appalled.

What happened and how I arrived here: http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/4243-cymbaltawithdrawal5600-introduction/#entry50878

July 2016 I have decided to leave my story here at SA unfinished. I have left my contact information in my profile for anyone who wishes to talk to me. I have a posting history spanning nearly 4 years and 3000+ posts all over the site.

Thank you to all who participated in my recovery. I'll miss talking to you but know that I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines, suffering and rejoicing with you in spirit, as you go on in your journey.

I could not believe it when I SAW KETAMINE mentioned! It is appalling! I don't know why I was surprised because pharma will stoop to any level and people will be grateful for the relief until they are addicted.

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible

  • 4 weeks later...

I think talk of the intermittent use of ketamine (3 weeks or longer in between doses, and in a clinical injection scenario) in depression (withstanding that word's use as a catch-all for distressed individuals) is refreshing... Of course the molecule is being studied and analogues that need to be taken daily, have dirty binding profiles, crummy half-life's, and a whole host of acute and chronic side-effects, will be developed.

I do understand that the focus of this site is to help people get off of psychotropics, and I won't be recommending anyone to start going for their monthly ketamine injection.

The issue for me going forward is how does one determine the long-term (10-20 years +) safety profile of any psychotropic, before it is potentially to late.

April / 2016: Cipralex 10 mg, Mirtazapine 30 mg, Lyrica 600 mg, Diazepam 20 mg, Bystolic 5 mg

2018: Lots of polypharmacy which is undocumented here. Started and stopped several drugs and changed doses of existing ones

August / 2018: Back on track! Cipralex 15 mg, Mirtazapine 7.5 mg, Diazepam 15 mg

September 2018: Cipralex 15 mg -> 12.5 mg

October 2018: Cipralex 12.5 mg -> 10 mg, Mirtazapine 7.5 mg -> 3.75 mg -> Stopped, Diazepam 15 mg

November 2019: Cipralex 5 mg, Diazepam 10 mg

I read another article on Ketamine a few days later in which the author remarked that Big Pharma is no longer doing R&D on antidepressants because they've squeezed all the money they can from that market, so redoing existing drugs is the trend.  What stuns me again and again is the ever so common obsession with money above the quality of life for human beings. That mercenary focus goes for individuals as well as businesses.
