If you put your thumb inside your mouth and fingers outside, near the joint, are the muscles tight and painful? Sometimes massaging them in that position helps me. I just bought a mouth guard but I need to fit it still. Sometimes I wake up with my lower front teeth jammed over the top ones.

They can be sore. It's really strange.  Sometimes they feel tight but the tightness comes and goes, as in, it can be tight at one point during the day then later not really at all, then tight again.  When it's tight I feel like I can't open my mouth all the way though if I try I usually can.

That sounds scary re your teeth overlapping.  Hope it clears up Meimei.

Well this problem over all is not getting better, not right now anyway.  I just had my jaw move and lock again, though it unlocked quickly this time.

So I'll be seeing the doctor for sure now.

Very sorry to hear that sky. A disappointing update from me too, that my window only lasted for 1.5 days without pain and feeling happy and energetic. The pain picked up quickly over the past couple days and was very severe today that I had to tale a pain killer even I tried my best strength not to take it over the past yr. the shooting and sharp extended to neck, shoulder and back on the left side ( always on this left side) which makes me losing hope again as I have no clue at all how to think of the entire situation.

I've just realized two things that might be making this worse right now.  One, the weather just changed--I used to have pronounced difficulties in early withdrawal when barometric pressure would change.  So I think that is at play at the moment.

The other I don't know what to do about. I have been taking several herbs on and off that help with some problems I have (some drug-induced and some not).  I keep forgetting though that sometimes it seems to make the jaw issue more pronounced.  I don't know what to do; the herbs do help with brain fog and some other problems but if it comes down to getting weird short bouts of lock jaw I am not really keen on continuing with them.

Happy to hear you Sky!

I started the technique myself last night it seems helping quite a bit. it will be great if someone else can do instead of doing it yourself as the work itself can creat tension.

I am very sorry for both of us as my jaw pain extended to head pain (plus weired pressure and needling sensation) so now I have both and more!

I am looking forward to the weekend relaxation for some relieve.

Wish you a nice weekend!

A good news for all of us! My jaw pain is lessoning significantly in the past couple weeks, more improvement everyday. and the headache caused by the jaw pain is leaving gradually as well. I can't even believe it myself as it seemed nothing (experimented almost everything I can think of) touched it in the past 10 months with 7/24 constant pain. What I learned is my brain is not permenantly damaged, and time is the only cure giving that you dont play with it by exposing it to changes. and I now know the jaw pain is indeed caused by the generic lexapro (on generic for 18 months, switched back to name brand for 6 months now).

On the other hand, I wonder if anyone ever had a similar experience in having head pressure immediately after taking the med (I am on Lexapro). I am still on 2.75mg name brand lex, stablizing with various symptoms, only that a weired head pressure develops every time I take the med and then disappears after 30min-2 hours. would really appreciate if any comments/information.

take care and keep being hopeful

Hi LexAnger,

I am not having these issues anymore. After I took neuro endure they went away after a week or two. I had to keep taking it for about 4 months. I was in a very bad shape and was taking ibuprofen like crazy. After 4 months I went to GNC and started taking NAC and another of the ingredient in neuro endure separately.

however, after that my depression got worse and worse. So now I am on 20mg Prozac.

I would suggest to consult the road back website and email the guy who manages it. I am sure he will suggest you take neuroendure. However, my case was different. I was under severe withdrawal. In your case it seems you are still taking lexapro.

let me know what else you would like to know and I will gladly help.

The roadback website mentions that you should start taking the supplements while you are withdrawing. I started taking it after I abruptly stopped taking luvox. So I think neuro endure should help.

Hi floaks,

I am sorry you are still having depression issues. I don't see you have your signature attached in which you can give a summary of your med and withdrawal history. There are lots of people here are very knowledgable and caring with hands on experiences will help if you add a signature and ask suggestions.

I read the info on the road back website and found the detailed supplement information sounds science based with good rational. I sent an email to ask for guidance to get started. I feel the same that I should start with neuro endure. Will see what they say. You are right my situation is different as I am still on lex battling with the side effects and withdrawal. the most difficult part is I don't know if it's caused by too much of lex or too less. Most of My current pain is associated with dosing. I take 5-6 hours to finish the liquid each day and every few drops cause immediate sharp needling pain all over my body especially head, neck and shoulder. It's so bad everything I feel like going to have a panic or heart attack. Once the dosing is done, soon I will find releave. Overall, major issues I have are more physical.

I hope you find it worth the time to update your information here for support.

Just a quick update. I got the Nero endure mini and jnk. The first mini pill last night knocked me down into sleep and I found I could not wake up in morning after 9 hr sleep. The pain today is also one of the worst.

Hi lexanger,

sorry to hear this. Did you email the road back guy? For me neuro endure mini provided a huge relief in just 30 minutes.

Hi Floaks, yes I did. I ordered the supplement per his suggestion. I feel that the mini is more helpful to lesson anxiety ans insomnia since I already sleep a bit too much and no issues of anxiety, so it did too much on its effect. Did you have problems with sleeping and felt relieve from taking it?

Hi LexAnger,

Sorry for my late reply. I was busy moving to a different apartment.

I think neuro endure did help in relieving some anxiety but I am not too sure about it. Major relief I felt was in teeth ache and jaw pain.

Also I think it did reduce my sleep time and helped with my depression. i think I should go back on it since I am again having depression and sleep too much.

BTW, did you find any relief from your pain now that you have been taking it for a few days now?

Hi Floaks, nice to hear you! Due to strong effect of it on my sleeping hours, I discontinued it after the first pill. Since I also ordered jnk together with the mini, I consulted alto about both and she told she would not suggest them so I stopped taking both. The experience I had so far with the guy (Jim) is not impressive in both responsiveness, detailing and reasoning when I have logic questions about how those supplement fit my particular situation.

As for the pain, I'm still getting it daily especially the few hours after taking the med. it is so severe that I often feel I was about to have a heart attack or panic attack. I started massage yesterday 1 hour after the med and it helped immediately tothe level that I can live again. The guy is a Chinese alcupuncture doc and he also did a few spot massaging which helped quickly with my heart sickness due to the pain.

I also started yoga this morning and felt great effectiveness of it in reducing tension head, neck, back and all.

I hope these therapy continue helping. I will keep you posted.

You see how different each of us reacting to the same supplement. It seems the mini acted on me as a sedation factor while on you lifting. As people say always listen to your body. I hope you find relieve from depression and too much sleep from it.

i have been reading this forum a lot lastly. im not english native but i can read pretty well :)

i can find like 80% of my symptoms in common with the people coming forma withdrawal from a AD.

Actually im having nervousness and low days following the window and wave evolution (but i should add that this thing have been improving).

My problems i believe come from (i dont feel any proud of...) one intake of  illegal substance (mdma) than from the ADs that i had to take after the anxiety that mdma induced (lexapro and paroxetine)

i have brain zaps too...the same pattern as ADs!

i have food sensitivities and medicantion too, induced for this state.

Cause the symptoms are the same...i truly thing that whatever happened in my brain, is close to what happened in a person with ad withdrawal .

Now my mood is doing weekly waves but this improved.

im fighting mainly limbs ache , neck ache, and jaw pain , and its because i have bruxism when i sleep  and maybe RLS, severe one. i think that it improved from the last 2 years but i the pain today is not easy to deal with. i have a mouth guard that help a little

i wanted to ask your knowledge and research about some help (supplements, medication..) that could help me with the pain. also if would be nice if you could help me with your way to deal with the pain daily.

thanks a lot a sorry for the possible mistakes i did in the post.

PD: i dont know if admin deleted the first post but anyway i posted again. tell me if something is wrong please.

hi derok, I did not find your first post. The best way for others to understand your situation is to complete your profile by adding a

Signature with your med history and start a topic from there as a introduction.

Lex is well known to have the side effect of causing pain on head, neck, jaw, back etc. did your pain start after the intake of the

Illegal drug? Did you take it when you were also on lex? Some pain killer can reduce the pain in some level but my experience with

Taking both is bad as they seem interact with each other. Another complication is withdral of lex can also cause the pain. So to figure

Out a method of managing the pain will need to understand the cause/pattern first. So far I find it the most difficult symptoms to

Handle for my case. Massage/ relaxation/ deep breath/yoga can help if the pain is caused by tension. If the pain is directly come from

The injection/ intake of lex(my case), I found lying down helps.

thanks for the answer! my jaw problems started just 1 month after everything went wrong then i started lexapro to treat my anxiety/depression. Actually im not taking lexapro (sometimes i get a mild bout of anxiety) but the jaw pain is still present

i guess in the case you dont take any AD then the jaw pain disappear? i didnt know the lexapro could aggravate my jaw pain...:/

Both lexapro and withdrawal of it can cause jaw pain, unfortunately. It is hard to figure out which one unfortunately. If you google lexapro jaw pain you will find tons patient reports and reading through their stories helped me with good understanding of all possibilities.

My face, jaw, and tongue muscles start to get really tense and tight whenever I am doing something, like typing or washing dishes. You know like how in cartoons someone is doing important delicate work with their hands and their tongue is sticking to the side and face gets all tense? It's like that with me, but happens with unimportant things like typing and washing dishes. I can't relax my face muscles either when I'm doing it. Sometimes it gets a lot better, but other times this problem gets worse. The muscles get tired from all this, and it's quite uncomfortable to the point of me not wanting to do anything that triggers this.

I think I've had this problem for like 2 or 3 years now.

-On SSRI since April 2006.
-December 2007: SSRI discontinuation and withdrawal start.
-February 2008: SSRI reinstatement... improvement, yet withdrawal symptoms remains to this day.
-Currently taking: 16mg Citalopram, 1mg Risperidone (for insomnia).
-Current issues: obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), insomnia, exaggerated physical symptoms of anxiety, muscle fatigue, weight gain, high prolactin/low testosterone

My face, jaw, and tongue are ALL messed up.  Tongue twitch, jaw clench, face twitches, face scrunches up involuntarily.

Only been off meds for one month, three weeks.

If all I have in three years is tense muscles without all the twitching, I may consider that an improvement, in my case anyway.

I hope you get better.

*I'm not a doctor and don't give medical advice, just personal experience
**Off all meds since Nov. 2014. Mentally & emotionally recovered; physically not
-Dual cold turkeys off TCA & Ativan in Oct 2014. Prescribed from 2011-2014

-All meds were Rxed off-label for an autoimmune illness.  It was a MISDIAGNOSIS, but I did not find out until AFTER meds caused damage.  All med tapers/cold turkeys directed by doctors

-Nortriptyline May 2012 - Dec 2013. Cold turkey off nortrip & cold switched to desipramine

-Desipramine Jan 2014 - Oct. 29, 2014 (rapid taper/cold turkey)

-Lorazepam 1 mg per night during 2011
-Lorazepam 1 mg per month in 2012 (or less)

-Lorazepam on & off, Dec 2013 through Aug 2014. Didn't exceed 3x a week

-Lorazepam again in Oct. 2014 to help get off of desipramine. Last dose lzpam was 1 mg, Nov. 2, 2014. Immediate paradoxical reactions to benzos after stopping TCAs

-First muscle/dystonia side effects started on nortriptyline, but docs too stupid to figure it out. On desipramine, muscle tremors & rigidity worsened

-Two weeks after I got off all meds, I developed full-blown TD.  Tardive dystonia, dyskinesia, myoclonic jerks ALL over body, ribcage wiggles, facial tics, twitching tongue & fingers, tremors/twitches of arms, legs, cognitive impairment, throat muscles semi-paralyzed & unable to swallow solid food, brain zaps, ears ring, dizzy, everything looks too far away, insomnia, numbness & electric shocks everywhere when I try to fall asleep, jerk awake from sleep with big, gasping breaths, wake with terrors & tremors, severely depressed.  NO HISTORY OF DEPRESSION, EVER. Meds CREATED it.

-Month 7: hair falling out; no vision improvement; still tardive dystonia; facial & tongue tics returned
-Month 8: back to acute, incl. Grand Mal seizure-like episodes. New mental torment, PGAD, worse insomnia
-Month 9: tardive dystonia worse, dyskinesia returned. Unable to breathe well due to dystonia in stomach, chest, throat
-Month 13: Back to acute, brain zaps back, developed eczema & stomach problems. Left leg no longer works right due to dystonia, meaning both legs now damaged
-7 years off: Huge improvements, incl. improved dystonia

Hi Bux.........

I very much have many ear problems which I KNOW are WD induced.

Blocked ears, tinnitus, pressure, jabbing pains and at one point in WD could even feel the fluid moving in my middle ear (both ears)

Also have a lot of tooth pain (even in teeth that have been root-canaled (sp?), jaw pain, gum pain, throbbing and sentivtities.

All have showed improvement and most symptoms are now intermittent however, I can get some days when one or more will become intense.

In regard to seasons........these symptoms (at least for me) are unrelated to the time of year. I have no doubt that WD creates all of these strange pains, sensitivities since, there are nerves in our teeth and whatever affects our teeth can radiate pain into our ears, jaws etc.

Ears, nose and throat are all interconnected.

Many times a WD symptom can become chronic in nature only to spontaneously remit .......never to return again. Other times, symptoms will gradually decrease in frequency and intensity and/or become intermittent in nature before permanently disappearing.

Hope I'm articulating my thoughts clearly. (cog fog today BTW)

Really hope you can obtain some significant relief real soon since, it sounds like this symptom is causing you much distress.

Much More Healing to You!

Punar

Thanks Punar, you are right i know this is WD but you know sometimes when i symptom gets really bad again u just need that reassurance that its not just you ?. I know this winter i had so many colds ect i wonder if its my sinuses as iv been pretty clogged up too, my nose never runs i just get the clogging which i suppose in itself can cause pain and pressure, and funny enough i was sneezing an awful lot with my hayfever yesterday.

You are not kidding about the teeth and gums either, whilst on seroxat i had recurring abscesses above my front 4 teeth needless to say those teeth fell out :( i had only had so much as a back tooth out and the odd filling prior to taking the poison.

Last night i felt a big hard lump at the back of my upper pallet so of course i ran my tongue round it...as you do lol ...it burst and now i have a massive blood wheel there so what thats about i have no idea also started with the trots :( so maybe im just really run down at the mo as i really dont feel great anywhere this morning.

Thanks for the good wishes, and wishing you healing too :)

If your still around could you please update.  I think we may have something in common.  I have had problems with my mouth teeth since before quitting E... it got a lot worse after I quit and comes and goes now for years.  Recently I have had what you describe above... the recurring abscesses around some of my teeth it seems to be the same ones all the time it comes and goes I have had one of the affected teeth out there are about 4 others.  In the last 6 wks I have had the not sure I would call them abesses but something like that around the space of the pulled tooth and the teeth behind it and in front of it. I have been to see a few specialists one who pulled the one tooth said nothing was holding it in as it pretty well fell out he pulled once out it came.  I have had a lot of antibiotics this year and have tried to stay away from them for a rest as they were giving me colitis symptoms...so doc says.

The last 2 stints of abbesses I have treated with salt water only.  I large lump grew on my neck under my jaw so large it hampered my breathing it was a cyst that broke... and drained.  When it was growing and big I too got the trots as well as vomiting as well as severe pain in my jaw both sides my ear my foot and my ribs HEADACHE!!!... I know.  My doc says it was a cyst I was lucky it did not drain internally but I think it may have been draining internally as well as externally and that perhaps that was the cause of the trots and vomiting it has been a recurring theme this year... not the lump but all the rest...often i feel like there is a lump in my neck around the area that drained externally.

When the lump broke and drained all the pain seemed to ease... I had been back to my doc to get pain pills so often I had to sign a paper about addiction... she could see no reason for the pain.  Granted I have a bone spur in my jaw and had it fractured years ago but she can see no cause for the pain in my feet side ect that seems to go away when that lump broke open... I am not kidding I could not stand it and it was constant.  for me it seems to be all slowly starting back... I am starting to think this is not going to go away until I have the rest of those teeth out...but I know they look ok ... dentist will not pull them.. no way i already tried to get him to take them out... I know it sounds stupid but after all this suffering I don't care if I lose teeth I want to live without the pain.

Your story is the closest to mine on this thread so I am curious how it all turned out for you please update.

PS

I have had a mouth guard for years and years seen tmj specialist as well as others... I have read the many long posts and all the other suggestions they are not working for me just a heads up as this thread is too long already imho...

please update.

pps

My doc maintains this cyst is not infected in the past 6 months this has been a constant issue with my teeth it has happened before since I quit but this is the longest run so far.  I have been dx this year with several lung sinus infections as well as a kidney infection.  Seems to me there is some common link I just don't know what it could be.

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Along with these issues I have had my jaw shift from one side to the other my teeth pulled to one side or the other to a point where my lips are weird either very thing or oddly shaped.  My tongue burns for no reason like bee is stinging me sometimes this hurts enough to wake from a sound sleep.  When it goes wonky... from time to time I tend to bite my tongue a lot.

It seems to come and go for no reason... I am not sure having teeth out helped to tell you the truth one side has not teeth but the pain still comes there like it did when I had teeth.

If I ever find an answer not already posted I will add it.

btdt, I haven't had the other issues you mention with regards to the cyst, but I have had my jaw shift before a few times.

Doctor had no explanation for it.  I am convinced the drugs caused it.  Hasn't happened in a while, thankfully.

oh my god! I think the constant teeth grinding jaw clenching is worse than the crying spells! I look at myself in the mirror and my face is all twisted up around my cheekbones, it is horrifying.

I know it is w/d. and/or seroquel side effects.

2002: "Situational depression" 2002-2010:Prozac.Birth Control.2011 Short trials: Paxil, Celexa, Lexipro, Wellbutrin, Xanax, Ativan- Gee, Doc never mentioned protracted AD wd syndrome. Imagine that. 2011-2015. Lamictal. Seroquel. Remiron. 2012: "Complex post traumatic stress disorder." Fast taper of Remiron jumped off June 2013. Slow tapers ever since of Seroquel & Lamictal.  crippling muscle spasms. crying fits. panic attacks. akathisia. nerve twitches. the jitters. the heebie jeebies. de-personal/realization. numbness. tingling. fatigue. lethargy. nightmares.insomnia. weird images. eye pain.vertigo. dizziness. brain zaps. and on and on and on. withdrawal? side effects? which drug? impossible to know. Stopped Seroquel October 2015.  Stopped Lamictal  March 2016. Had more severe muscle/joint spasms that paralyzed me for 3 days at a time, last episode was March 2017.Going back to work as of February 2018 after 14 years off full-time work due to the crippling effects of psych meds. Check out Robert Whittaker "Anatomy of an Epidemic" for  his breakdown of the rates of mental disability  since the introduction of Prozac into the human population. Best solutions for me: Social support via AA meetings. Acupuncture. Meditation. Dance. Nature. Yoga. Social support online with psych med survivor community. Nutrition. Exercise. More outdoor time. Go sit in the sunshine for 5 minutes. Touch a tree. Breathe deeply.

  • 5 months later...

I'm struggling with jaw pain and soreness as well as this weird dizzy disconnected feeling. I had a bite guard made by my dentist and am waiting for it to come in. Is this dizzy/spacey feeling from the TMJ or just another WD symptom? Anyone have experience with this? Thanks?

  • 3 weeks later...

Have had TMJ "stuff" for years....  spent sooo much money...drs, dentists, chiropractors...   and now being off of the meds, I have had a few days of such intense pain.... I went in to my dentist and they "adjusted" my night guard....  two weeks later more intense pain..... I called to see him again, but he is on vacation....  and now I'm wondering/reading that this intense pain could actually be from the withdrawals????  (Actually wondering if my problems originated from being ON the anti-depressants...??)  Whew.  Thoughts???

Used many anti-depressants over the past 18 years. I C/T from Zoloft (25 mg) and Wellbutrin (150 mg.) (2 weeks apart-May 2015).
I was also taking Xanax or Clonazipam several times a week.  Quit taking those at the same time as the other two.
Tapering Amitriptyline since 2/2016.

I've had TMJ issues for much of my life. They can also be related to PTSD. But yes, they became much worse on the AD and also, were worse during some periods of WD. The dentist I see is specially trained in TMJ. She said in her experience, there is an increase in problems with the jaw on many of the AD, particularly SSRI's.

Remeron for depression. Started at 7.5 mg. in 2005. Gradual increases over 8 years, up to 45 mg. in 2012.Began tapering in June 2013. Went from 45 to 30 mg in the first 3-4 months. Held for a couple of months.Started tapering by 3.75 mg every month or 2, with some longer holding periods. Eventually went down to 3.75 mg. about April 2014. Stopped taking Remeron August 2014. Developed issues with histamine a week after stopping--symptoms reduced through diet and a few supplements. Currently having issues with a few foods. Most of the histamine intolerance has resolved or is at least, in remission.

Current Medications:

Current Supplements: Cannabis (CBD and THC), Vitamin C, D, Quercetin, CoQ10, Tart Cherry, Probiotic, Phytoplankton oil, magnesium, Methyl B. What has helped me most: spending time in nature, qi gong, exercise, healthy diet, meditation, IV vitamins, homeopathy, massage, acupuncture, chiropractic, music, and cuddling my cats..
