Typically the research has been with stroke, concussion, etc., but I think that there is a strong argument that the damage from psychotropic meds may well be of similar magnitude. I take 1000mg a day but when you look at fish oil or omega - 3 generally, you need to look at EPA and DHA levels rather than the size of the pill. It is the active ingredients we care about. Having listened to this podcast, however, I have just ordered a supply of more omega-3 and intend to significantly increase my dose -- likely to 3000mg a day to see if that helps. myndfull
Amy -- I'd like to suggest hemp seed oil for your omega 3 and 6. I've taken fish oil and it had little effect. I've been taking a tablespoon a day of hemp seed oil (not CBD oil) and it's had a very noticeable affect on my mood/withdrawal symptoms. It also tastes good. If you look you'll find some research on its effect on depression, etc. It generally comes from producers in Canada. Here's some info from a dot com site, https://www.nateralife.com/blog/lifestyle/omega-truth-hemp-vs-fish-oil/ What science says about hemp seed oil: Hemp seed oil is composed of nearly 85 percent essential fatty acids (EFAs) alone and offers the richest, most balanced natural source of EFAs. In fact the amount of alpha-linolenic and linolenic acid in 15 ml (one tablespoon) of hemp seed oil provides more than the daily EFA requirements suggested by the FDA. In addition, hemp seed oil is lower in saturated fatty acids than other comparable oils, is easily digested and has been shown to alleviate symptoms of atopic dermatitis (eczema) and even psoriasis. Hemp seed oil also exhibits the highest total phenolic content and antioxidant activity compared to all other plant-based oils (with the exception of pumpkin seed oil). Naturally occurring phenolic compounds are known to play a key roll in reducing the risk of cancer, relieving systemic inflammation, acting as a powerful antioxidant and promoting free radical elimination. Chemo-preventive (anticarcinogenic) properties of hemp seed oil work by causing apoptosis (cell death), inhibiting the cell cycle and preventing the abnormal proliferation of cells characteristic of cancerous tumors. What science says about fish oil: Obtained from the tissues of “oily” fish (such as sardines, salmon, tuna, anchovies etc.), fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids and two other fatty acids called EPA and DHA. Oily fish themselves do not naturally manufacture omega-3 fatty acids but rather they accumulate it in their tissues by eating other fish that have stored amounts of omega-3 fatty acids and microalgae in their bodies. Although studies have shown that fish oil may help reduce incidences of cardiovascular disease, its ability to relieve other conditions such as macular degeneration, cognitive decline and depression, as attributed to hemp seed oil, has not been verified. Unfortunately, fish oil also doesn’t contain the prefect balance of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids for the body. Oils from most fish that are used to cultivate fish oil capsules (such as salmon, herring, mackerel, anchovies and sardines) have a profile of around seven time the omega-3 oil as omega-6 oils.Hemp seed oil contains the optimal 1:4 ratio of omega-3 to 6 required for body consumption and use. Myndfull I had tried and failed to stop Paxil several times (though never using a long, slow taper) and thought Celexa might be easier, so I shifted to Celexa in 2012. In August of 2014 I began a serious tapered withdrawal from Celexa (20 mg.), making monthly drops, mostly 10% of the last dose, sometimes more, sometimes less. In July of 2016 I took an early retirement at 59 in large part because of my intense withdrawal symptoms. Three years and eight months after beginning my taper, I stopped taking Celexa on 5/12/18. I am currently in recovery and I am very slowly getting better. I still have waves and some are quite bad. But overall the trend is toward healing. Link to comment

I found this one that seems to have very high quantities of DHA and EPA. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FOVLXYW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I figure I will take 2AM and 2PM which will provide 3000mg of essential fatty acids. I agree with myndfull that hemp can be a great source -- something I'm looking at as well. Best, Andy Sertraline 50mg and Clonazapam .375mg from 2000 -- symptoms of dizziness Spring 2012 increased to .5 Clonazapam and 100mg Sertraline -- no improvement Benzo microtaper from November 2012 to November 2014 (followed benzo sites "taper benzo first") Started Sertraline taper in December 2014 cut by 25mg to 75mg; 62.5mg 1/1/15 and 50mg on 2/1/15 Held at 50mg through April 5 to use liquid Reduced dosage in 10% or less drops from 50mg to 25mg -- at single tablet of 25mg on 10/5/15 Transitioned to all liquid for accuracy while tapering -- Horrible insomnia -- back to 25mg liquid and held until October 1, 2016 10/16 -- 11/18 tapered very slowly to 10.6mg. No real improvement and never really stable so updosed to 12.5mg (1/2 a pill) for convenience and long hold. Moderator Emeritus SkyBlue Posted July 26, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted July 26, 2017 I purchased some of the Trader Joe's Omega3 gel caps yesterday, as recommended by Alto on page 1 of this thread. AmyK
Thanks for asking, Lex. I am ok, quite functional. I can manage daily routines and I don't think anyone could tell I am in wd. Symptoms that still is bothering: metallic (burning) taste in my mouth, brain fog, head is buzzing, small head aches, some occasional restlessness, memory problems (not too bad, but sometimes I cant find the right words and that is very unpleasant for me that used to work with words). Morning anxiety (I know I cant take any decisions in the morning!). I am also in the process of helping my mother move in to a nursing home. She has Alzheimer's. That adds to my stress (and sorrow). Otherwise: I have jogged twice, I take a swim almost every day (love summer!), I have spent valuable time with family. I have read three books. Sleep is good. Time, time... is the healer. Thinking of you, Lex! Current dose: 0! Free! No looking back at this point. So happy for you. LexAnger
That sound very good Amy! I'm sure more healing is happening even faster naturally without the interface from the drug! I'm sorry about your Mom! But at least you are better now and can help her out some. I'm hearing the universal truth once again, that time is the only healer! hugs, lex Drug free Sep. 23 2017 2009 Mar.: lexapro 10mg for headache for 2 weeks. 2009-2012: on and off 1/4 to 1/3 of 10mg 2012 June--2013 Jan,: 1/4-1/3 of 10mg generic, bad jaw pain 2013 Jan-Mar: 10 mg generic. severe jaw and head pain; 2013 Mar--Aug. started tapering (liquid ever since) from 10 to 5 (one step) then gradually down to 2.25 mg by July. first ever panic attack, severe head/jaw pain 2013 Aug.: back to 2.75 mg; Nov: back to Brand Lex. 2.75mg -- 3mg, 2014 June: stopped PPI, head pressure/numbness. up-dosed 4.5mg, severe reaction mental symptoms added on 2014 Aug--2015 Aug: Micro taper down to 3.2mg, .025mg (<1%) cut holding 2-3 weeks. 2015 Aug 15th, Accidental one dose of 4.2mg. worsening brain non-functional, swollen head, body, coma like, DR 2016 Feb., started dosing 10am through 11 pm everyday 2/13--3.2mg, 3/15-- 2.9mg, 4/19-- 2.6mg, 6/26--2.2mg, 7/22 --1.9mg, 8/16--1.8mg,8/31--1.7m g, 9/13--1.6mg, 9/27--1.5mg, 10/8--1.4mg, 10/14--1.3mg, 11/1--1.2mg, 11/29--1.1mg, 12/12--1mg, 12/22--0.9mg 2017: 1/7--0.8mg, 1/15--0.7mg, 1/17--0.6mg, 1/20--0.52, 1/21--0.4mg, 1/22--0.26, 1/23--0.2, 2/13--0.13mg, 2/20--0.06mg, 3/18--0.13mg, 6/1--0.12mg, 7/6--0.1mg, 7/14--0.08mg, 8/17--0.04mg, 8/20--0.03mg, 8/28--0.02mg, 9/6--0.0205mg, 9/8--0.02mg, 9/17--0.015mg, 9/20--0.01mg, 9/21--0.0048mg, 9/22--0.0001mg, Link to comment
