I like Brass's new word.

2020: After 18+ years (entire adult life) on Paxil, a dangerous doctor-led "taper" in 2015, and four years tapering off the last 1 mg thanks to SA and the Brassmonkey slide,

I AM COMPLETELY FREE OF PAXIL! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Forever.

2021: Began conservative, proper, CNS-respecting taper of Zoloft, led by the only expert on me -- me. Making own liquid. 5-10% plus holds.

2022: Holding on Zoloft for now. Current dose 47 mg. Hanging in, hanging on. Severe protracted PAWS, windows and waves. While I may not be doing "a lot" by outside standards, things are graaaaadually getting better

Yoga (gentle to medium); walks; daily breath practice; nutrition, fruits/veg; nature; water; EastEnders (lol); practicing self-compassion, self-care; boundaries; connection; allowing feelings; t r u s t ing that I, too, will heal. (--> may need to be reminded of this.)

Thankyou all dear friends!

I like the word too, one should celebrate things more often!

I take a swim in the sea every day now. It's mindfulness for me.

Hugs!

Started on 25 mg Zoloft in March 2011 due to stressrelated tinnitus that gave me panicattacks. Had a terrible reaction to Zoloft from start, but was told to "hold on". After four months I was stuck. Therefore the long taper. Crazy, I know... Super sensitive to drops and have dropped by 4-6 % from the previous dose.

Healed by the sea. It's not even hard to believe. The sea is so unexplicable that thought stops. Happy healing!

Took my first SSRI sipralexa/lexapro/escitalopram in 2007 for depression. In 2010 the doctor switched me to paroxetine/seroxat/paxil for anxiety.

My paroxetine story from then on:

2010-15 from 10mg up to 20mg

jan 2016 30mg

may 2016 0mg cold turkey (don't!)

dec 2016 symptoms: anxiety, tremor (could barely stand)

jan 2017 reinstated at 7.5mg to taper in steps of 10%

...

Dose changes from may 2017 to now:

Thankyou, miT!

Difficult day feeling quite high anxiety and restlessness. It's just so unbeliavable that those drugs are legal when the make people suffering for years... makes me so sad.

Could omega 3 give instant relief from brain fog and restlessness, or is it just placebo? I think it happened to me today (for a couple of hours). Is that really possible?

It's a fair question, Amy, and one that I always wondered.  For a view that suggests there is REAL science behind this, this is a post I made on the King of Supplements thread that deals with Omega - 3.

"This is a link to an interesting podcast with a proponent of high dose fish oil for TBI.  Some very compelling data.  He has a book about it as well called "When Brains Collide."  Makes me consider upping my Omega 3 intake significantly.

Sertraline 50mg and Clonazapam .375mg from 2000 -- symptoms of dizziness Spring 2012

increased to .5 Clonazapam and 100mg Sertraline -- no improvement

Benzo microtaper from November 2012 to November 2014 (followed benzo sites "taper benzo first")

Started Sertraline taper in December 2014 cut by 25mg to 75mg; 62.5mg 1/1/15 and 50mg on 2/1/15

Held at 50mg through April 5 to use liquid
Reduced dosage in 10% or less drops from 50mg to 25mg -- at single tablet of 25mg on 10/5/15

Transitioned to all liquid for accuracy while tapering -- Horrible insomnia -- back to 25mg liquid and held until October 1, 2016

10/16 -- 11/18 tapered very slowly to 10.6mg.  No real improvement and never really stable so updosed to 12.5mg (1/2 a pill) for convenience and long hold.

Oh, thankyou, Andy! I will listen to it! What is TBI?

And- what dose of Omega 3 do you take? I have only taken it sporadically since zero.

TBI is traumatic brain injury.  Typically the research has been with stroke, concussion, etc., but I think that there is a strong argument that the damage from psychotropic meds may well be of similar magnitude.

I take 1000mg a day but when you look at fish oil or omega - 3 generally, you need to look at EPA and DHA levels rather than the size of the pill.  It is the active ingredients we care about.  Having listened to this podcast, however, I have just ordered a supply of more omega-3 and intend to significantly increase my dose -- likely to 3000mg a day to see if that helps.

it took cipromillion couple months to feel much better. I can't believe these lingering symptoms will take long to completely go away for you. Just hang a little bit more. You will be fine soon.

Lex. I just have to keep calm. I know it will subside. I am on vacation with family and may have a bigger expectation on my ability to function.

I had these feelings of anxiety before, especially when I felt late (a couple of hours) with my dose. It's chemical. I know that. I just have to surf the wave.

Andy, thanks for sharing this. What brand of omega 3 are you using?

I'm using nordic naturals but am always open to hearing about a possibly more economical version.

I've seen several places that recommend this-- 1,000 mg/day combined DHA/EPA.

Amy -- I'd like to suggest hemp seed oil for your omega 3 and 6. I've taken fish oil and it had little effect. I've been taking a tablespoon a day of hemp seed oil (not CBD oil) and it's had a very noticeable affect on my mood/withdrawal symptoms. It also tastes good. If you look you'll find some research on its effect on depression, etc. It generally comes from producers in Canada.

Here's some info from a dot com site, https://www.nateralife.com/blog/lifestyle/omega-truth-hemp-vs-fish-oil/

What science says about hemp seed oil:

Hemp seed oil is composed of nearly 85 percent essential fatty acids (EFAs) alone and offers the richest, most balanced natural source of EFAs. In fact the amount of alpha-linolenic and linolenic acid in 15 ml (one tablespoon) of hemp seed oil provides more than the daily EFA requirements suggested by the FDA. In addition, hemp seed oil is lower in saturated fatty acids than other comparable oils, is easily digested and has been shown to alleviate symptoms of atopic dermatitis (eczema) and even psoriasis.

Hemp seed oil also exhibits the highest total phenolic content and antioxidant activity compared to all other plant-based oils (with the exception of pumpkin seed oil). Naturally occurring phenolic compounds are known to play a key roll in reducing the risk of cancer, relieving systemic inflammation, acting as a powerful antioxidant and promoting free radical elimination.

Chemo-preventive (anticarcinogenic) properties of hemp seed oil work by causing apoptosis (cell death), inhibiting the cell cycle and preventing the abnormal proliferation of cells characteristic of cancerous tumors.

What science says about fish oil:

Obtained from the tissues of “oily” fish (such as sardines, salmon, tuna, anchovies etc.), fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids and two other fatty acids called EPA and DHA. Oily fish themselves do not naturally manufacture omega-3 fatty acids but rather they accumulate it in their tissues by eating other fish that have stored amounts of omega-3 fatty acids and microalgae in their bodies.

Although studies have shown that fish oil may help reduce incidences of cardiovascular disease, its ability to relieve other conditions such as macular degeneration, cognitive decline and depression, as attributed to hemp seed oil, has not been verified.

Unfortunately, fish oil also doesn’t contain the prefect balance of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids for the body. Oils from most fish that are used to cultivate fish oil capsules (such as salmon, herring, mackerel, anchovies and sardines) have a profile of around seven time the omega-3 oil as omega-6 oils.Hemp seed oil contains the optimal 1:4 ratio of omega-3 to 6 required for body consumption and use.

Myndfull

I had tried and failed to stop Paxil several times (though never using a long, slow taper) and thought Celexa might be easier, so I shifted to Celexa in 2012. In August of 2014 I began a serious tapered withdrawal from Celexa (20 mg.), making monthly drops, mostly 10% of the last dose, sometimes more, sometimes less.  In July of 2016 I took an early retirement at 59 in large part because of my intense withdrawal  symptoms.

Three years and eight months after beginning my taper, I stopped taking Celexa on 5/12/18.

I am currently in recovery and I am very slowly getting better. I still have waves and some are quite bad. But overall the trend is toward healing.

Hi, Sky,

You might want to check out the OmegaBrite brand.  I take 4 capsules a day (a little more 1400 mg) and have been happy with it.  I started it years ago and think the quality is good.  EPA is 1050 mg and DHA is 150.

Thanks, Gridley! I appreciate it.

Andy, thanks for sharing this. What brand of omega 3 are you using?

I found this one that seems to have very high quantities of DHA and EPA.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FOVLXYW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I figure I will take 2AM and 2PM which will provide 3000mg of essential fatty acids.

I agree with myndfull that hemp can be a great source -- something I'm looking at as well.

Best,

Andy

After 8+ months of holding with no noticeable improvement decided to add .4ml of liquid Prozac (about 1.5mg) to see if that improves the situation

Supplements, Magnesium, D3, Omega 3, curcumin, Valerian, 81mg Aspirin, L-Theanine, Vit. C,

I purchased some of the Trader Joe's Omega3 gel caps yesterday, as recommended by Alto on page 1 of this thread. They are very reasonably priced. I had grown weary of not seeing any benefits with the $30 brand (Nordic Naturals) I was using.

I'll also keep Andy's and Gridley's recommendations in mind.

Oh my goodness. My post just above this one -- I thought I was responding on the fish oil thread.  How embarrassing. At least I am in good company with kind people who understand the kind of confusion we experience in WD.

No, I don't think there is a way to see signatures when reading on a phone. There is a thread somewhere about how it is best to use a computer for this site (although not always possible of course).

I wonder, I am mostly looking at SA on my mobile phone...is there a way to be able to see the signatures of members when reading threads?

Amy, sadly the signatures are not visible in the mobile version.  I did discover -- completely by accident -- that I could get the desktop version on my tablet when I rotated it 90° to "landscape" mode. I haven't tried it on a phone.  Let us know in the "Questions" topic if it works for you!

Thanks for asking, Lex.

I am ok, quite functional. I can manage daily routines and I don't think anyone could tell I am in wd.

Symptoms that still is bothering: metallic (burning) taste in my mouth, brain fog, head is buzzing, small head aches, some occasional restlessness, memory problems (not too bad, but sometimes I cant find the right words and that is very unpleasant for me that used to work with words). Morning anxiety (I know I cant take any decisions in the morning!).

I am also in the process of helping my mother move in to a nursing home. She has Alzheimer's. That adds to my stress (and sorrow).

Otherwise: I have jogged twice, I take a swim almost every day (love summer!), I have spent valuable time with family. I have read three books. Sleep is good.

Time, time... is the healer.

Thinking of you, Lex!

I'm so sorry, Amy.  This is so difficult -- regardless of withdrawal.  My thoughts are with you.

Otherwise, you are doing awesome!  No looking back at this point.

So happy for you.

Best,

Andy

That sound very good Amy! I'm sure more healing is happening even faster naturally without the interface from the drug! I'm sorry about your Mom! But at least you are better now and can help her out some.

I'm hearing the universal truth once again, that time is the only healer!
