AmyK: Intro about myself

I am a bit scared. I dont feel well. I have no energy at all, my brain is in such a mess. Feel nauseated, slow and cant think.

Is it the latest drop? Is it the meltdown about trying to hold down work? Both?

I also have this new symtom of burning skin.

The head ache is a bit better today though.

Started on 25 mg Zoloft in March 2011 due to stressrelated tinnitus that gave me panicattacks. Had a terrible reaction to Zoloft from start, but was told to "hold on". After four months I was stuck. Therefore the long taper. Crazy, I know... Super sensitive to drops and have dropped by 4-6 % from the previous dose.

Im so sorry you are feeling ill, Amy. Sounds like it could very well have been a migraine. A couple of years ago I had my first one and it definitely threw me off for a bit and that is not uncommon at all. It happens to people who are not even in WD. I'm sure the stress with your parents and also work are contributing. You will be ok though!

Perhaps it's better to hold off on another drop until the migraine after effects wear off? I know it's so difficult, especially when you know that sometimes a drop can help. I go back and forth with "should I or shouldn't I" all the time. I'm also a master catastrophizer so you are not alone there either!

That's another reason these forums are such a God send because I've noticed we can be more rational in our advice to others than we are with ourselves. Like I can have the same exact symptoms as someone else and I'll be like "well in their case it's probably just heightened symptoms due to _______, and things will probably settle down soon, as for me well obviously I'm crashing." LOL

Seriously though, this will pass for you. In the meantime be easy on yourself and find a soothing distraction to take your mind off the fear. ((HUGS))

JMarie, thankyou. I dont know what I would have done without this forum.

I know, it's much easier to be rational about others. The fear prevents you from thinking clear.

I hope it's a migraine due to all the stress I have felt. I guess this week was a kind of eye opener for me. I realized how much work I put into holding up a facade (god my English, do you understand?), especially concerning work. I've been thinking maybe people around me see me as lazy. I just want to cry out "I am withdrawing from antidepressants!".

Yes, I will wait before I decide about further drops. Hugs!

Hi Amy

I have just read most of your thread and what an inspiration you are. You have done so well to get down to such a tiny dose and haven't got far to go.

I am tapering but have a long way to go and think it will probably take me this amount of time too. I am sorry you are not feeling so good and hope that you feel better over the weekend.

I work too and know how hard it is to deal with people when you are not feeling like it! But you have and you are, so you are doing a great job! When I don't feel so good I just try to keep on a fairly low level of productivity and try not to beat myself up about it. It will pass and I will feel better again.

Our lives will come back to us and we will be all the better for the struggles and  pain we have had to endure as a result of these drugs.

Keep up the good work.

Hi AmyK :)

I was wondering how can you weight as tiny amounts as 0,1mg? Do you have some kind of analytical scale? I've been thinking of buying one of those.

Take care :)

Citalopram 40mg from 2003-2015

Jan 2015 started tapering first dropped to 35mgFeb 30mg, March 25mgApril 20mg, May 17,5mg, June 15mgJuly 12,5mg, Aug 12,5mg,

Sep 0mg for 5 days because of stomac flu and after I raised to 7,5mg. All the symptoms of acute WD shaking, diarrhea, vomiting, barely could walk ect. Still didn't realize that it wasn't only stomac flu but I was also going through WD.

Oct 2,5mg and crashed again badly and quickly raised to 4mg. It was then when I knew my symptoms were due to WD.

Then in November after a month holding on 4mg raised to 5mg due to muscle weakness and had a VERY BAD reaction to reinstatement: akathisia(lasted for one or two weeks), insomnia, anhedonia... Drop quicly back to 4mg, Dec 3mg

Jan 2016 2,6mg( in the middle of Jan after I had been on 2,6mg for a week I tried to updose to 2,8mg and immediately had bad reaction to it: akathisia for a day, andehonia got worse. The next day dropped back to 2,6mg), Feb 2,4mg( a new symptom PGAD lasted 24/7 for 2 months after that on and off), March 2,4mg, April 2,3mg, May 2,2mg, June 2,1mg, July 2,0mg( Pgad almost nonexisting, sleeping pretty good, still some anhedonia but there has been a lot of gradual progress), Aug 1,97mg-1,89mg, Sep 1,88mg-1,49mg, Oct 1,48mg- 1,70mg,

Nov 0,65mg- current dose 0,5mg

Hi reachingforthestars,

I use a digital scale (0.001 g) and after weighing a very small piece (now 3 mg) I dilute it in water and use a 1 ml syringe.

It seems difficult, but it's not really. It takes some time though to weigh the right dose. Good luck!

Just thinking about you Amy..

(((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

I am so glad you are feeling better, Amy!

You are at such a low dose and no worry to hurry as the side effect of the drug should be minimal. I feel your thinking is a good one to hold longer and regenerize your body and mind before the next cut.

Hugs!

A bit worse again today. But more of a heavy heart, heavy head...more like a stoned feeling. It's usually a sign that I have to drop. But I will try to hold on a bit further.

I am going to see my mum for a few days. She is slowly fading away. She has lost the perception of time and is more an more loosing the perception of room, where she is. I am grateful she still recognize us all. And she is always happy to see me.

Hi Amy, just wanted to chime in. I read through your story and very impressed with how far you've come and your level of determination and consistency. You can do this!

I'm new to this site and coming to grips with the journey I have ahead --- extremely unsettling. But your proof that it *can* be done.

Currently: 4G of Fish Oil (4 Capsules) w/ Vitamin E; Sam-E @ 400MG

May 1, 2016: CT from .5MG of Risperdal & 1MG of Clonapin

Feb 1, 2016: CT from 75MG of Nardil (MAOI) - used for anxiety/panic/depression for 2+ years.

Prior to 2014: Tried several meds with varying success and generally for less than a year: Lexapro (some success, stopped working); Effexor (worked for a bit); Paxil (worked but lost my sex drive); Zoloft (again, sexual side effects); Cymbalta (didn't do much)

I am not so strong actually. I cry a lot these days. I cry for what's happening to my mum, for the fear of withdrawal, for the fear that I won't keep/hold everything together (myself especially, but also job, motherhood, life...). And for the fear of having fear, lol. (Brilliant!). The deepness of it is connected to withdrawal, I think.

I have to ground myself again and again.

Today we have a beautiful early summer day. I love this time of the year.

Hugs!!

The best grounding there is can be a beautiful early summer day.  Enjoy it to the max. All the rest can be gotten through.

(((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))

I had such a nice time with my mother. Such a valuable calm time. Even almost forgot about wd. It felt so good to help out and spend some time with her.

The only thing is that I am so extremely emotional about her situation. Everybody else in the family hold it together, it's just me that is so emotional and cry (not in front of her though). My caracter, maybe... I don't know....

Anyway, wd wise I feel quite good.

Great to hear that you had a good  visit with your Mum.

I think we are all different in the ways that things affect us. Sometimes I wish I could be a little more emotional as I feel crying is a release. I was brought up to put a brave face on things and bottle things up. Don't think it is good for you!

Thankyou, Flowers. I have felt like that whole my upbringing too. These last years have been kind of overwhelming. On the good side it feels somehow ok to feel. But uncontrollable crying must be wd related in some way...

Otherwise, I have felt really good the last week. Today the burning skin feeling again. I might drop soon.

Hey, happy for your nice window last week!

It will get even better over time with dose gets even lower even bumps here and there. I know it's hard but always remember it will pass and get better regardless how bad and hopeless we feel when in a wave.

Good luck to your next cut,

This last mg is so hard. I dropped 4 % two days ago. From 0.75 to 0.72 mg. Today brain fog, head ache and DR. I am loosing myself in all this. I loose focus. My kids are on summer holiday now since two days and I kind of panic. I know it will get better, but the trust in myself and the process is really thin. Well, it will get better.

  • 2 weeks later...

I felt much better a few days ago. Almost normal. Today just blah again. I never had this irregularity on the higher doses. It was bad, then better, then ok...then eventually bad again... and time to drop....kind of.

Could it be that accuracy is much harder to get on this small dose? I weigh 3 mg of the pill. But I have to do it so many times before I get it right. The scale jumps between 2 and 4. I stop when I got 3 mg several times in a row.

I feel sluggish and slow and have a hard time entertaining and pushing my kids to do things. I just want to be left alone, and I feel so egoistic about that.

I think of all the time I (we) spend on this (these) drugs - and the energy it takes to try to analyze and handle the situation - and it overwhelms me with depressed feelings. I feel that my life is totally spinning around zoloft and how the drug makes me feel.

If I can come out of this feeling healthy and free I will be grateful for the rest of my life.

Positive things: I could go out to a restaurant and celebrate my son's birthday - and have a good time. For a few days I could enjoy the beautiful summer weather.

Take care all.

Hi Amy-- reading trough your post and this struck me:

" I feel that my life is totally spinning around zoloft and how the drug makes me feel. "

This type of thinking is very similar to what happens in an "Anger Spiral" which I have talked to several people about lately.  I copied and pasted one of my posts for you to read through and see if it will help with your "spinning around zoloft".

There are pretty much four steps: 1) identify that it's happening, 2) defuse the situation, 3) change the channel, 4) go on with life.

Identifying the situation can be hard at first because it's very natural to fall into the spiral.  A person needs to go through the entire cycle several times to identify the pattern and understand the progression.  I find that I am several minutes into the pattern before I realize that it's happening again. Learning what ones triggers are is a good place to start and previsualizing situations where those triggers might occur.  That way a person can "keep on guard" when those situations arise. It's frequently the little things that set it off.  Getting cut off in traffic, a coworkers off comment, someones tone of voice.  When a spiral has ended I try to go back and coldly analyze it to see what the trigger was for future reference.

Defusing the situation is very important especially in "confrontations".  This is a matter of self preservation because things have a bad habit of escalating to violence, and that has a lot of ramifications.  The person who is angry is often deemed the "bad guy".  The one who hits first is always in the wrong, and the like. Because we're in the anger spiral that put us in the center of things and according to society we have to "control our selves".  So finding ourselves in a bad situation caused by our anger spiral we have to take control and make things right.  Trying to talk out way out of it won't work, the spiral is in control making it so we can't think clearly.  The best bet is to just walk away. It is much better to be seen as rude than violent.  Turn, walk away, relax, regroup and if necessary reapproach the subject from a different angle (work related things you just can't get out of) otherwise drop it and move on.

The key aspect of the anger spiral is ruminating thoughts.  Once the trigger happens it sets off of series of mental events that build out of control. There is the initial trigger which is frequently followed with a small flash of anger and then dropped.  A few minutes later the ruminating kicks in with an "I should have..." followed closely by "that's like when....." "those b******s" "I always get treated like this..."  all these thoughts swirling around and compounding each other.  This builds until there is an explosion.  Changing the channel at "I should have..." is the best way out, but it can be done effectively at any point in the spiral.  As soon as one realizes that the spiral is happening changing the channel is called for. I frequently use a stern "don't go there" close my eyes, deep breath and concentrate on what I'm doing.  While distracted I do deep breathing and progressive relaxation to regain control of my body.  I can take several tries to get control back and I need to keep an eye on things so the spiral doesn't try to sneak in several hours later.  This is the part that takes a lot of practice but with time becomes second nature and very effective.

Once the spiral has been broken it is best to just go on with life.  The event happened, it was controlled, it's in the past, move on.  Later, after things have had a while to calm down, the situation can be reviewed in a rational manner to understand how it progressed and what worked to defuse it.  It now becomes a learning situation.  During this analysis it is important to use a cold eye so as to avoid retriggering the spiral.

Hope this is helpful.

I wonder about the lower doses under 1 mg. I believe it's getting harder. But for others it seems like once they are under 1 mg wd is easier, like the drug doesnt do much. Am I more hooked on it?

I thought I would be done by now, especially since the therapeutic dose of zoloft is 50 mg.

I am having a very hard time with fluctuating (and new) symptoms. Mainly physical.

  • 1 month later...

Just want to note this for my self (and possibly others):

I have felt so good whole of July. Except for a tiny blip (which made me drop tiny 0.01 mg) I have felt normal and happy. Summer is warm and beautiful and I am taking a bath almost every day in the ocean. I guess summer is the best season for me, I have felt relaxed and connected with nature.

Things can change, but for now: grateful.

I'm so happy for you Amy. What an excellent way to spend the summer.

(((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))
