The Rewiring of the Mind - a spiritual perspective

Here, spiritual teacher Adyashanti is talking about the transformational process which occurs in the body and mind after an awakening.  Its surprising how similar this is to much of what happens during recovery from psychiatric drugs.  Of course there are some differences, but his advice about how to think about a transformational process, which we have no control over may be very helpful.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

Thanks for posting this Petunia.  It saved my life a gazillion times and gave me peace and something else wonderful I cannot describe to not believe my rapid firing demented thoughts the first two years off p-drugs.  It was easy to do when they were so very screwy. I became quite the observer of thoughts, this separated me from the "cray cray".  I was not worried about the "not sleeping" for the first year off like many are and did not hold the belief that I needed to sleep to heal. I'd say more but having computer problems right now.  When listening to Adyashanti and other spiritual teachers during the torment, my clear thought was "You have zero idea buddy!!!"

A 20 year history of always a combo of 4 psych drugs sometimes more.  At last I had this awakening thought "These drugs aren't doing me any good."  I listened and at that point made the decision to taper off the last drug cocktail I was on of Celexa, Lamictal, Klonopin and Seroquel which I did in one year.  (Shock and awe.) Drug free May 6/09.  Sure is a slow healing process.
