I feel overdrugged. I don't know what to do - should I hold the 18 mg (have hold it for 20 days) or taper just a few beads maybe? I feel very sick, dizzy, derealization, nausea, extreme fatigue...

these symptoms may very well be withdrawal symptoms, not overdrugged symptoms. you have made enormous cuts. your nervous system needs stability. I would hold. for a long time.

in 2002- 0,5 tablet cipramil for half a year, ended it uneventfully. in 2006 - citalopram for half a year, ended in horrific state, ditched the drugs CT. 2007-2008 not feeling well but drug free. in 2008 prozac 20mg + quetiapine 25mg. 2009 tried to stop, ended up in hole after couple of months, started zoloft. 2009-2011 zoloft 50mg. went to 25mg in 2011 summer, it resulted in half a year horrible suffering. reinstated, changed drugs, nothing happened. by 2012 beginning suddenly felt great and CT meds. after 4 months came suddenly most horrible human suffering that's possible. was started on prozac and questiapine. started tapering slowly, GFCF diet and Hardy Nutritionals vitamins in 2013 summer.

current medications: 1) fluoxetine and quetiapine since Aug 2012; 2) Daily Essential Nutrients by Hardy Nutritionals 7 capsules / since May 2013 + omega3; 3) Gluten-free-casein-free diet since june 2013

Started withdrawing slowly since april 2013. Mostly around 10% cuts.

April'13 - March'14: fluoxetine 40mg -> 19,5mg; quetiapine 50mg -> 40mg
April'14-March'15: fluoxetine 19,5mg -> 14,4mg; quetiapine 40mg -> 22mg

April'15-March'16: fluoxetine 14,4mg -> 7,4mg; quetiapine 22mg -> 15mg

April'16-March'17: fluoxetine 7,4mg -> 5,0mg; quetiapine 15mg -> 7,25mg

April'17-March'18: fluoxetine 5,0mg -> 4,0mg; quetiapine 7,25mg -> 0 (as of 1st Feb 2018)!!!!

April´18-March´19: fluoxetine 4,0mg - > 2,3mg. Jumped off fluoxetine 1,4mg due to pregnancy in July 2019. Oct 2019 severe withdrawal syndrome started.

Took mistakenly a complex for hormonal support that included pregnenolone dec2019-april2020. Stopped it april 2020 and immediately severe akathisia started. Have had life threatening akathisia since, 100% disabled, suicidal, very hard to hold on.

increasing does not sound like a good idea. why do you want to change the dose all the time? the thing that helps is stability.. and time.

I have to reinforce the points rapunzel made. People who are successful in getting their drug situation under control and ultimately come off of them are those that learn to tough out withdrawal symptoms.

Every time you change the dose you delay your recovery. You set off a complex cascade of small traumatic injuries all over your CNS.

It's not a particular dose that can help an injured CNS but stability over time. And when we say time it means enduring withdrawal symptoms for months. It doesn't mean they will be equally severe all the time.

Understanding this simple but hard principle is a key to recovery. There are other ways of dealing with withdrawal symptoms that don't involve turning to drugs as a solution and attempts to adjust the dose. What non-drug coping skills do you use?

Current: 9/2022 Xanax 0.08, Lexapro 2

2020 Xanax 0.26 (down from 2 mg in 2013), Lexapro 2.85 mg (down from 5 mg 2013)

Edie, you're absolutely correct that I did suggest that updosing is/was an option. I didn't write about the risks of updosing but could have.

You tried a few extra beads for 2 days, had worsened symptoms. Now you know that you're that sensitive to changes and have decided to hold at 18 mg.  You may need to hold there for several months. It appears that you'll need to find ways to cope with your symptoms that don't involve medication -- prescription, over-the-counter, or "recreational" street drugs.

Please remember that you tapered from 75 mg to 18 mg in less than 6 months, after several other medication changes in the 6 months prior to that. Your recovery from all this bouncing around will take time.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

Okay, I agree that if I hold this 18mg dose for several months then maybe my WD symptoms will decrease, but what is NOT going happen is that the side effects of the drug will decrease. You see.. I don't tolerate the drug and I have developed supraventicular extrasystoles and extreme drowsiness on it. So I don't see why I should hold that much just to let the drug poison me more. I think I will make quiker a micro taper plan or something like that.

first of all - how do you know that your symptoms are side effects and not protracted withdrawal syndrome symptoms? in my case, most of my withdrawal symptoms are EXACTLY the same as side effects.

if you do an enormous cut then it's very much logical that you get bad withdrawal symptoms later on and those bad withdrawal symptoms seem like overdrugged, side-effect symptoms.

in 2002- 0,5 tablet cipramil for half a year, ended it uneventfully. in 2006 - citalopram for half a year, ended in horrific state, ditched the drugs CT. 2007-2008 not feeling well but drug free. in 2008 prozac 20mg + quetiapine 25mg. 2009 tried to stop, ended up in hole after couple of months, started zoloft. 2009-2011 zoloft 50mg. went to 25mg in 2011 summer, it resulted in half a year horrible suffering. reinstated, changed drugs, nothing happened. by 2012 beginning suddenly felt great and CT meds. after 4 months came suddenly most horrible human suffering that's possible. was started on prozac and questiapine. started tapering slowly, GFCF diet and Hardy Nutritionals vitamins in 2013 summer.

my side effect symptoms also get better as I decrease the dose. that doesn't mean I can skip withdrawal symptoms or withdrawal syndrome. which, I know, can get FAR worse than side effects. in the end you will feel so bad that you start taking meds again. it seems that you have jumped in this circle for quite some time.

Edie, it's always your choice whether to increase, decrease, hold, cold turkey, add another drug.  We share what we've seen works for many many people. In this situation what's helped is holding at a dose for several months.

An example: KarenB, a moderator, held at a dose of venlafaxine for 8 months and is finding that she now has little to no reaction after reducing dose -- link to her post about that.

I will hold until I know what is goin on with my heart. I will meet with my cardiologist who is going to run some tests and if the drug is the root of my strange heart problems I will taper more quickly. Venlafaxine is known to cause heart problems, even my psychiatrist admitted that it might be the cause.

Just FYI - I had severe breathing problems about half a year after coming off Venlafaxine very fast.

I did have the nausea and extreme brain fog and brain zaps etc initially, but the breathing problems started half a year later.

  • 2,5 years of slowly tapering down Cymbalta from 60 mg. Then tried going from 8,44 mg to 1 mg in 8 days. (April 1st 2015). That's when the real hell started. Reinstated. Didn't help. I was added Ativan (2 mg 2 times a day for relentless akathisia that started with jumping Cymbalta). For years had been taking Zopitin 7,5 mg and Stilnox 10 mg for I had not been able to sleep naturally since the 1st day I started Cymbalta). Used to take Xanax occasionally.
  • All of the above were stopped cold turkey when I was hospitalized in the beginning of May 2015.
  • Prior to that I have been on and off the whole spectrum of different AD-s for 15 years (since I was 17).

My introduction.

Tapering:

  • Olanzapine (starting point 2,1 mg): Jan 2016  /---/ April 2018 0 mg. (From 2,1 mg to 0 mg in 1y 3mo).
  • Diazepam (starting at 5 mg) : switching to liquid May 2018;  4,6 mg (June 2018) /---/ 0 mg (Feb 2020) (From 10 to 5 - nobody knows, from 5 to 0 in 1 y 10 mo)
  • Valdoxan (starting at 25 mg): switching to liquid (Feb 2019) /---/ 0 mg (July 2020)

seems like a protracted withdrawal symptom then...

you have written:

About the prozac cuts - yeah, I felt totally fine until i reached 6 mg - then I started to get anxiety, pressure in the head and breathing difficulties (in oct).

it seems that you, too, got breathing difficulties with withdrawal.

Edie, you did a prozac CT because of adverse reaction. why did you end up on effexor after that? seems like a similar situation.

in 2002- 0,5 tablet cipramil for half a year, ended it uneventfully. in 2006 - citalopram for half a year, ended in horrific state, ditched the drugs CT.

April'13 - March'14: fluoxetine 40mg -> 19,5mg; quetiapine 50mg -> 40mg
April'14-March'15: fluoxetine 19,5mg -> 14,4mg; quetiapine 40mg -> 22mg

April'15-March'16: fluoxetine 14,4mg -> 7,4mg; quetiapine 22mg -> 15mg

April'16-March'17: fluoxetine 7,4mg -> 5,0mg; quetiapine 15mg -> 7,25mg

April'17-March'18: fluoxetine 5,0mg -> 4,0mg; quetiapine 7,25mg -> 0 (as of 1st Feb 2018)!!!!

I hoped that I would feel better on effexor, because it had worked before, but it did not work anymore like this - instead I got a new peoblem that I never had before - the heart related issues. The worst breathing problems actually started after surgery in dec. And I've had them in WD and on drugs. I even had them a few years ago when I was taking escitalopram.

2008 -2013 Most of the time on 75 mg venlafaxine and 0,25 mg Klonopin, 2013 august-oct - weaning off venlafaxine

2014 dec - 60 mg venlafaxine, 2015 jan - 55 mg
2015 feb - hospitalisation,extreme WD, switched to 10mg Prozac, weaning off Klonopin
2015 march - added inositol, niacin, fish oil
2015 april - free from klonopin, only on 10mg Prozac, may - oct 10mg - 6 mg prozac

2015 oct - WD, anxiety, panic attacks - back to 7 mg, Nov- back to 8 mg - added 1/4 of 1,5 mg bromazepam x 2 per day

2015. dec - adverse reaction to prozac, had to CT, only on 1mg klonopin - low grade fever, vertigo, painful urinating

2016. jan - back on venlafaxine 37,5 mg and 1 mg klonopin - , also taking vit c, Q 10, fish oil, magnesium oil, seabuckthorn oil, zinc gluconate, tumeric, april 2016 - back on 75 mg venlafaxine, oct 2016 18 mg venlafaxine 0,5 - 1 mg klonopin,Jan 9 - hospitalized due to severe depression January 12- discontinued venlafaxine, switched from 1 mg clonazepam to 7.5 mg diazepam 2 times a day, 15th January started 75 mg pregabalin, 19th jan - 5 mg diazepam in the morning 7.5 in the evening + 75 mg pegabalin, Jan 27 - 52,5 pregabalin - 6 mg venlafaxine - 5 mg diazepam morning - 10 mg diazepam evening

it's also very common that after running into withdrawal and then starting a med again, it doesn't work and only gives you bad side effects (even if you had taken the same drug without side effects before). It happened to me as well. I think it's because the nervous system is messed up from withdrawal and gets overly sensitive.

I also highly sceptical that cardiologist can differentiate between side effects and withdrawal syndrom. 99,9% of them do not know that this condition even excist.

Please try to consider that some of your problems may actually be withdrawal, not side effects (which means that it's dangerous to continue withdrawing and for safety you should hold for a couple of months). and I know it's hard to realize there's no quick way out of the suffering :(

Well, I was prescribed fluconazole for the candida. I took it on monday and I've felt horrific since. The second day I felt like vomiting the whole day and now I have a really bad headache and nausea. Ofcourse I forgot to check the interactions first. Ofcourse it can also be the candida die-off symptoms combined with flucozanole's side effects. Well, here are the interactions...

Moderate fluconazole  venlafaxine

Applies to: fluconazole, venlafaxine

Fluconazole may increase the blood levels and effects of venlafaxine. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects. In addition, combining these medications can increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious and potentially life-threatening, although it is a relatively rare side effect. You may be more susceptible if you have a heart condition called congenital long QT syndrome, other cardiac diseases, conduction abnormalities, or electrolyte disturbances (for example, magnesium or potassium loss due to severe or prolonged diarrhea or vomiting). Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. You should seek immediate medical attention if you develop sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, shortness of breath, or heart palpitations during treatment with these medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Have you made any changes to anything since October?  Did things ever settle down after the Fluconazole/Venlafaxine interaction?

I'm sorry to hear things are so bad right now.

2015 Begin using info at SurvivingAntidepressants.  Cut 10% - bad w/d 2 months, held 1 month.

Micro-tapering: four weekly 0.4% cuts, hold 4 weeks (struggling with symptoms).

8 month hold.

2017 Micro-tapering: four weekly 1% cuts, hold 4 weeks (symptoms almost non-existent).

2020 Still micro-tapering. Just over 2/3 of the way off effexor. Minimal symptoms, - and sleeping well.

Hello there! I'm still in hospital. I've been switched from 0,5mg clonazepam two times a day to 7.5 mg diazepam two times a day. To ease the withdrawal from clonazepam I also get 75mg Lyrica (pregabalin) in the evening (this is my 4th day on lyrca now). I still have depression waves every day and I also sleep during a day 1-2 hours just like before. But it seems that I have a little bit more energy and I'm a bit more sociable. I still have my little fevers that come and go and hot flushes, but less than before. My doc is not pushing me with anything, she is okay with me not wanting to take any antidepressants and we are thinking of trying transcranial direct-current stimulation sessions.

Updated my signature. Yesterday was quite bad -most of the day I couldn't do anything, because I was very tired and depressed. Today I don't feel so depressed, but I'm still tired and I have no motivation at all. I'm not taking part of any of the activities here in the hospital (group therapy, exercise ect). Feel very isolated and numb. Tommorow morning I'm going to have my first tDCS session. I really hope it helps.

Hi! Had my first tDCS session yesterday and in the evening I got a headache and slight nausea. Today the headache grew into a migraine and I had stomach cramps and nausea (still have both actually). Don't even know what is the cause, but my quess is too many changes and the stimulation was a bit too much. Maybe it worsened the withdrawal? Anyway.. I'm supposed to get these tDCS sessions every day next week, but I'm really not sure if i should.

Started on 25 mg Zoloft in March 2011 due to stressrelated tinnitus that gave me panicattacks. Had a terrible reaction to Zoloft from start, but was told to "hold on". After four months I was stuck. Therefore the long taper. Crazy, I know... Super sensitive to drops and have dropped by 4-6 % from the previous dose.

Do you thinki it is ok to CT from 75mg lyrica if I've been on it for 10 days? And then go back to 10 mg diazepam 2 times a day which equals the 1 mg klonopin I was on and after that continue 10 % WD per month.

Moderate diazepam  venlafaxine

Applies to: diazepam, venlafaxine

Using diazePAM together with venlafaxine may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Some people, especially the elderly, may also experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Also avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
