Thanks Narcissus, Mr. A., and Barb.  Hanging in there... with the worst allergies I've had in 50 yrs.  Just one thing on top of another, and I do want to process some of the feelings I have toward Dad.  At least I have 'here' and for that am thankful.

Thanks Flower and Rhi and Tezza.. I'm on ABs again.. (tinnitus, wherein does your song EVER stop?) This time round, I short circuited what seems to have been an early stage pneumonia.  Poor doctor, I got my GPs fill-in for cellulitis, then same again for the chest congestion...Anyhow, it's a very contagious URI and I coughed 12 inches from his face when he was palpating the side of my neck... Ouch.  Poor guy.  Guess that's one of the best ways to guage a doc, get his response when you have inadvertently exposed him to a case of the 'crud'.

Curses. I caught the above from my Dad's hospice nurse.. she had laryngitis and sat a couple of feet away for 1.5 hrs. as my Dad faded away two days before I got symptomatic.  Now it's 'only' post tussive syndrome (my usual fare) and that will be gone in a couple of days.  My sister caught the bug from me, and neither of us could sing my Dad's beloved hymns at his funeral.  She's now on the mend as well, though not  before causing her Meniere's to re-emerge.  Sigh..

Flower.. I'm so very sorry to hear about your Mom! I'm going to check out your thread, I've been less attentive than usual,  given my own issues, and I don't recall exactly what was going with you... Oh Gosh.  Put in an update when you can, okay?

Skyler,

Thinking about you and hope you're feeling a bit better. Interesting that your sister has Meniere's... a form of tinnitus, from what I recall..?

Crud comes with the territory for docs. His resistance is probably very high. Go sneeze on some psychiatrists. :D

Off benzos as of today for the first time in over twenty-five years and I'm in a mood to celebrate!!                       Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

I had to go very slowwwly, start date was 7/2010, but the taper was largely unsymptomatic... with the exception of tinnitus picked up due to a cross over effect from another drug at 1.25 mgs. diazepam. Going slow was the only way for me and I'm grateful to have found a helpful forum before I started. Yes, power to forums!

Oh yay, I have to work an extra long shift (11 hours) today to cover for a coworker who had to go to a funeral, and I was all grumbly grouchy about it, but now I have a big smile on my face that I think is going to last me all day! Yay Sky! yay yay yay!

Thanks RU, Petu, Barb,  Rhi, Lexi, Alex, Mei, and Tezza..

Yup... 25 years on, and it took me 3 years, 3 months, and 21 days to get off. The benzo was prescribed for a problem ( hypnic jerks) caused by a short course of ADs 26 yrs past. Since then, whenever I tried to stop, klonopin caused the same jerks.. so it seemed the problem was still there.  Only I now know it was WD kicking in.. Unreal and what a waste.

PS..There one year hold at the 1.25 mgs was due to cross over tinnitus amplified by other drugs, but never did it feel like I'd stopped!  Not for one single day. I was determined to get off this c*@#!

Folks,, I"m still pinching myself to see if this was the ZERO hour (witching Posted Image) or only Trick or Treat?

Nope, this treat is still here today. This morning I took requip and Lyrica suspensions as per usual, (tapers to be resumed soon!).. but NO diazepam.  Barb, you asked how I had the patience.. dunno except for this  forum.

Skyler, How are things going? I'm sure at least a little tough as you make the final transition... Thinking of you!

Tinnitus is going strong I fear, guess I'm stuck with it. I took a 7.5 % cut off requip and there was a significant uptick. I'm now taking care to spread my TID doses out better.. I slipped on the timing for the afternoon dose and think this was contributing. Hopefully being more diligent will help.  Not sure what you mean about a final transition though.. I figure 3 to 4 yrs.  to get off the remainder.. well, that's if I plan to hold at 25 mgs of Lyrica. which I may do.  But the requip will go entirely, along with the greater amount of Lyrica.  Benzo is gone though, YAY!

Thanks for asking Meime.. I've 'been around'.. just not posting due to RL commitments.. good to see all your activity.. ya doin good gal.. doin good!!

Well, I think jumping off to being benzo-free is a huge transition, no matter how long the taper! Glad you are able to carry on...that's encouraging to all of us!

Update...

I'm down to 75 mgs. of Lyrica from 207 mgs in January of this year. I got low enough to start taking smaller cuts, this possible because I can now double the amount of water I use as a diluent.. and still use 5 mg oral syringes.

A few side effects.. the ubiquitous tinnitus, kept to a somewhat tolerable level which will improve with maller cuts, and intermittant muscle cramping in my legs and feet.. which will also be better with smaller less frequent cuts (going from 6 mgs every two weeks to 3 mgs every 10 to 11 days.)

As previous, off diazepam since Haloween 2013, and down to .15 mgs of Requip. When I've tapered Lyrica down to 25 mgs, touchdown planned for April Fools :-), I'll taper the last of the requip. I'll stay on the small dose of Lyrica as it stabilized the fibro, and I have not as prone to relapses, and those I do have are less severe.

It is possible to taper reasonably comfortably. Turtles Rule!

Hehehehe.. Alto, I went off benzos a year and a half ago... I posted in the Benzo success stories, and again in this thread

I also put an update in a post to Jackel Snatcher about my progress with Lyrica.. which did not make it to this thread.  I just looked to see if I could find it, but for some reason, when I try to find Jackel in the members (to check on his posts and so locate my post), the list will not take me to Js... but simply starts with all the numbers at the top.  I've used this feature before to good success... maybe someone can look at it?

Thanks

Hello Skyler,

I am also tapering Lyrica (I went c/t from 100 mg to 0,- and then I reinstated at 50 mg). This was 4 months ago. Before I had the feeling it starts to go better, but again it deteriorated. I am in the worst wave ever, having intrusive thoughts, harm OCD, anxiety, panic attacks and depression. I think your tapering is much more cautious which is right. Do you have some other withdrawal symptoms from Lyrica other than tinnitus?

Would you updose on my place to 55 mg or continue tapering? Please give me your opinion on it.

Martina

Martina are you tapering or did you reinstate at 50mg and holding?

I reinstated at 50mg and holding for three months (one month before I was on 0,--, so altogether 4 months)

Skyler, Pug also stopped Gabapentin (which is almost the same drug), it is also maybe 4 months, so maybe you can cheer up her also (she is also having a very hard time).

Update...

It has been easier for me to taper Lyrica than the benzo, I think.  I put it this way because I developed tinnitus from Lyrica which seems permanent.  At least somewhat... if I don't push the taper, or take other meds that cause it to spike, the tinnitus is relatively mild.

But I get ahead of myself... I was 'jerking' the Lyrica dose around... dropping 25%... then a couple of weeks later another 25%.  This triggered off the tinnitus... which then bled thru into the very bottom of the benzo taper, and I then had tinnitus from that as well. So I've taken the Lyrica taper pretty easy..  But the other Lyrica WD Sx have not been so prominent..  and before I got stuck on the Lyrica, I was able to wean on and off for a number of years (the 25% a every couple of weeks mentioned above, got into trouble because I did not realize this needed a real taper).  So the long and short... Lyrica has been easier for me to taper, but the tinnitus has slowed me down.

One thing with Lyica.. a water suspension deteriorates after 48 hours, so you need to make up fresh every 2 days.  I want to add however, I did not find the benzo taper difficult as long as I took frequent holds and did not taper faster than 10 of the previous dose... but there was more wiggle room with Lyrica.. I'm close to 15% at present and am not worried about lag time catching up.  I held for 10 months at the bottom of my benzo taper with a good result.  I'm the hold queen, and firmly believe in erring on the side of holding too long. I think that tapering when we are symptomatic contributes to needless suffering.  I realize some people have paradoxical reactions from benzos, and need to taper in the face of WD symptoms, but they are far fewer than those who benefit from prolonged holds times... several months and more.

The long and short... Slow tapering for me means a good quality of life.  It can last much longer than we would like... but I've been mostly asymptomatic since starting to taper in July of 2010.  Remember.. the most toxic doses are reduced early on, so it's not an all or none proposition.  Thanks for reading.. all the best.

Skyler, I was reading your update. I am holding already four months at 50 percent and nothing changes. If the healing would be possible by tapering than I would feel already some healing

You can't generalize your situation to mine. My history is not the same as yours.  I have not read any stories (well.. maybe one or two out of thousands), wherein time did not bring about a roll back in symptoms.  It's a matter of when not if.

Why do you keep focusing on the worst case scenario (which is also a false premise)... would you rather believe you will stay ill?
