HI Hibari....

I am so happy you are holding on my friend.

I am currently at 5.2 and hit with a wave of fatigue and lack of motivation which in itself brings me some considerable depression levels. I am continuing with the tapering though and very soon i plan to go at 4.9 Mg. I have periods of stability but they are brief and bam it hits again. Can you please pass me the link of the neuro emotions... i think i have red it before and need to go through it again.

All the best my friend and keep tight.

We will make it

Was doing better and then for no rhyme or reason lots of sweating and nausea early this morning.

I don't feel well and have battle fatigue today.  Going to make myself go out after a snow day yesterday.  I may make one more cut next month and then that's it.   After that, I will jump off.

Hi Hibari,

It is so true that everything needs to be exactly the same in order to get off AD's.
One small slip up and WDS rears it's ugly head!
I feel the same like you. I was on it for a short period of time, and I also feel that the tapering process is taking way to long.
But just remember that getting to this point is an achievement in it self.
Just think about how good you will feel once you get off Mirtazapine.
Hang in there. Hopefully. :)

DRUG HISTORY:

November 2013- Zoloft, ( Bad reaction).

January 2014 - March 2014 Seroquel.( Quit Cold Turkey).

January2014- Mirtazapine, I was taking 15mg at one stage, reduced to 7.5mg, Pgad reactions to Mirtazapine. Doctor kept increasing it to 37.5mg, until July 2014. No improvement, experiencing panic attacks, on 37.5 mg. I had enough by October 2014. Began tapering.

October 2014- Started tapering Mirtazapine from 37.5mg.

September 2015- Down to 4mg of Mirtazapine. Crashed.

September 16th- Up dosed to 5mg. Held this dose for almost 5 months. Stabilised.

February 2016- Began tapering again. From 5mg to 4.5mg of Mirtazapine. (Rocking the boat, again)! Lol. :(

Thinking of you, Hibari. Hang tight. You are so close. There is bound to be some ripples. Coming off completely is a whole new world and soon all this nausea and sweating will be a distant, vague memory.

All this energy lost, (mental and physical) that has been directed towards the taper will find a new journey.

It will be the first time you have tapered off a drug like this. And even though that is liberating, it is a change. First time changes are always scary, no matter how easy or hard it is to do.

I think we will always need to make sure to get sunlight and exercise for the rest of our days. I know I go downhill very quickly when I let those two simple things get away from me.

Congratulations! You are a winner.

Hibari.  I'm not sure about your jump off point. If I were you I would perhaps take it to a lower dose before jumping off . I think you already know about the steep curve at this point, but it might pay you to read and refresh.

Why taper? Paper demonstrates importance of gradual change in plasma concentration

As always it is up to you but this is the pointy end which can be the trickiest and many have come " unstuck " at this late stage. I would hate to see that happen to you now after such a careful taper.

Thank you everyone and Ali, I do take your point.  I think my battle fatigue was talking yesterday.   In reality I probably have two more small cuts so that I don't mess up my taper.

Leahy, you are right even though I still have another drug to get off after this one, I am hoping for more energy.  My acupuncturist thought my body was fighting the drug even more as I get better.  You have always been in my corner and it makes this process tolerable for me.

It's weird, today my mood is fine but I could not wake up.    I have dropped things in the past two days and my head feels foggy.

It was so good to get all your messages of support so that I don't panic and imagine the worst.

Thank you Hopeful, for your encouragment

I am doing okay right now.  My mood is neither up nor down except in the evenings when I feel remarkably normal.

The main issues for this week are incredible fatigue and cognitive confusion.   It's like I am in a fog cloud that I can see through but its' hard to find words or think that clearly.

Trying to be really patient with what this right now and as my therapist said, just keep trudging through the tunnel-you'll make it.

That was nice to hear.

Happy for your Hibari

I am following your progress as i am currently at 4.8mg since yesterday evening. I am trying to move with 3-4% cuts every week or every 2 weeks depending on the symptoms.

I know tapering two meds is tough. I had brain fog all the way and especially at 7.5 mg it became really something. It immediately went away after i started going down from 7.5. Now my main issues are a bit of mild depression and a lack of motivation and initiative. I am procrastinating everything at work and that is not good. I used to have that trait even before but right now it is too much.

Anyway as all the symptoms i think with time this will also go away.

All the best and keep in touch.

P.s one small advice Hibari stay away from forums and FB groups related to Mirtazapine. For me getting involved in discussions about the mirts becomes an obsession and then i forget to take on life and just concentrate on that. Now i only enter into forums once in a while just to update my status and read just a few threads.

GOOD LUCK

Hello Hibari,

Hang in there.  You are almost done with remeron.  I was wondering what your sleep is like now that you are on a lower dose of remeron.  Is the lamictal helping in this regard?

Hi Survivor,

Thank you.   My sleep has always been very drugged with Remeron from the very first time I took.  Occasionally now I have some restlessness, but when I do, I take L-Theanine.  I'm not really sure how the Lamictal is effecting my Remeron wd.  I'm not sure if it has ever provided stability for me but once I get of the Remeron, I will be able to tell more.

Am recovering from a very bad flu that started last week.  I haven't been this sick, excluding wd, in about 4 or 5 years.  Dripping wet from sweating every night, coughing and just so exhausted.

I don't even know where my wd is in all this.  I felt so sick that if I was going through any wd, it got lost in the mix.  My mood is wd normal, neigher up nor down.  I am able to laugh at things but mainly feel spacey and low energy.

Still am sick with the remnants of the flu.  It has made me feel so down and that in turn kicks in my panic over wd and ever getting well again.

I feel like I am not stable and that hanging out longer is not going to make it better.   I've read other people who choose to get off because they aren't improving.

I am so confused.   I know I have received advice to not jump and that it will be detrimental if I do but will it?   Am now at 25 months of wd after 11 months on meds-too weird and unfair.

Nobody can predict how you'd react to discontinuing now. I'm assuming you're talking about just one medication, likely the Remeron.

FIRST, get over the flu before you change anything else.

Then you will be able to make the best choices. Trust yourself, Hibari. You will feel better and you will heal. You will jump when you are ready and you are going to be fine.

Right now you are too sick. Drink fluids and rest. Everything else will fall into place. I'm so sorry you are so sick. That's knocking you for a loop.

Hugs.

Always the straight forward voice of reason.  Yes, my mind is loopy from being sick and my thinking is distorted.  In reality, I have been pretty stable until I got sick, meaning not up, not down just in the middle without many physical symptoms.  It's only when I got sick that my mind went off the rails with fear.

Thanks Leahy.

I'm in such a weird physical state but hope that it's moving toward healing.  I took this week off to get over the remaining part of the flu and I definitely have needed it.

What I'm trying to work through is whether I am in protracted wd and don't even know it.  Using my syringe, I am down to about 1.2mgs of Remeron.  I estimate the best I can and maybe some nights I'm a touch higher and sometimes a touch lower.  My syringe is 5 ml and each line is about 0.85.   I have a compound liquid and it is a 4ml concentration.   So as I move down the last 5 lines on my syringe, I started at 4.25mgs of Remeron and have been dropping from there.

Early this morning I had two bouts of intense sweating and had to change my shirt. I feel hot and sweaty in general and think it's withdrawal and not the endless menopause I have been in. I have a low grade headache and nausea-signs of wd.  .  My biggest enemy is my mental reaction to illness-the panic and fear I feel about being sick is something I am trying to focus on in my healing.   I also know that panic and fear is part of wd so that is in the mix as well.

I guess what I am looking at is that this intense sweating is a good thing?  That my body is trying to discharge medication and move into equilibrium?

Any feedback on this intense sweating would be appreciated.

The lower your dose the more accurate you need to be.  From the discussion in this topic:  Tips for tapering off Remeron (mirtazapine) it looks like other members are diluting their Remeron with water.

Thanks Chessie.   For now I have my medication from a compounding pharmacy and its been okay.  I do think my body has been fighting the medication and that is part of the issue.

I made a small cut and woke up feeling better-I know that's not a guarantee that it will remain that way but I needed to take an action.

So I am riding through a wave right now after making a Remeron cut.  I had to do it.  I wasn't stabilizing much from a cut made 6 weeks earlier.   Granted I got a bad flu but I just felt very stuck in my taper.  So I made a cut and felt better both physically and mentally.   Now, I am feeling the effect but am determined to sit with it the best I can.   I feel like my body is fighting being on this drug and forcing myself to stay put was not helping.  I do not want to drag out a taper from a drug I was on for 11 months.

I do notice and have noticed eye sight issues with Remeron.  I feel like my eyes have gone bad and while I did suffer and eye injury 3 months ago, my eye exams have been clear.  It's more a fuzzy vision issue right now.

Curious if others have had the same issue from other meds and if they noticed and improvement later.

I have mainly stabilized at my new dose of Remeron, 0.85mgs.   What is currently going on is that I am extremely tired, sleeping for long hours and waking up groggy.  Some flashes in the morning and what I call wd mood.  Neither up or down but okay.  I do get worried about my groggy, spacey and foggy mind but have been reading Aerorman's success story.  He talks about his lack of motivation and low energy.

The other night I was thinking, I can't make a judgement on how I am going to feel in the future based on how I feel now.  It's not fair to do that to myself.

I also will decide the next cut I make based more on how I feel not on a schedule.   That's how I did this last cut.  I just felt I was fighting the drug despite a 6 week hold.

We'd all do well to take this on board Hibari - thanks for expressing it so well.

2015 Begin using info at SurvivingAntidepressants.  Cut 10% - bad w/d 2 months, held 1 month.

Micro-tapering: four weekly 0.4% cuts, hold 4 weeks (struggling with symptoms).

8 month hold.

2017 Micro-tapering: four weekly 1% cuts, hold 4 weeks (symptoms almost non-existent).

2020 Still micro-tapering. Just over 2/3 of the way off effexor. Minimal symptoms, - and sleeping well.

2023 Now on 7 micro-beads of Effexor. Minimal symptoms but much more time needed between drops.

A sunny spot in the rainy journey of WD.   I have lost 13 of the 30lbs I gained on Remeron or Remeron and Lamictal together.   I am on the tail end of my taper of Remeron and I think some of the medication weight is coming off.   This was on of my biggest concerns.

I did change my diet in the last 3 months, no dairy, or sugar and I try to stay away from bread.  I eat protein, potatoes and sweet potatoes, coconut oil, olive oil, fruits and nuts.   Believe me I am not perfect on this.  I do have cookies every couple of weeks and had some wine this weekend.

I really feel this is about getting lower on the meds.   I don't really exercise except to walk my dog and try to fit in a 45 min walk with him.  I also added in Betaine HCL for digestion  around 1200mg  per meal, Vitamin C between 2500 and 3500mgs, Vitamin D3 4000-5000 units a day and just added in 2,000mcgs of B-12.

I tried so many eating plans when I was up higher on the meds.  Weight Watchers, Whole 30, Atkins and nothing budged my weight.  That's how I knew it was the meds.   I knew Remeron was known for weight gain though the psychiatrist who prescribed said it I would be hungry.  Didn't mention that its slows your metabolism to a crawl.  Lamictal has been described as weight neutral but I have red stories on the internet of people who have both gained and lost with Lamictal.

I know I will need to bring my attention to food and diet after I am off all meds but I am encouraged.

Please don't let any doctor convince you that your weight gain on meds has nothing to do with the meds- despite what the literature says.  It absolutely does.

Very good news Hibari! Glad you're experiencing a bright spot in the process. These meds absolutely do make changes that cause weight gain. Like you, I tried a lot of things to lose weight while on them and nothing worked. The weight started to come off once I jumped off--3-4 pounds a week at the beginning, before I changed my diet and started exercising more.

Remeron for depression. Started at 7.5 mg. in 2005. Gradual increases over 8 years, up to 45 mg. in 2012.Began tapering in June 2013. Went from 45 to 30 mg in the first 3-4 months. Held for a couple of months.Started tapering by 3.75 mg every month or 2, with some longer holding periods. Eventually went down to 3.75 mg. about April 2014. Stopped taking Remeron August 2014. Developed issues with histamine a week after stopping--symptoms reduced through diet and a few supplements. Currently having issues with a few foods. Most of the histamine intolerance has resolved or is at least, in remission.

Current Medications:

Current Supplements: Cannabis (CBD and THC), Vitamin C, D, Quercetin, CoQ10, Tart Cherry, Probiotic, Phytoplankton oil, magnesium, Methyl B. What has helped me most: spending time in nature, qi gong, exercise, healthy diet, meditation, IV vitamins, homeopathy, massage, acupuncture, chiropractic, music, and cuddling my cats..

  • 2 weeks later...

I stepped off of Remeron on Friday, April 7th.   I think I was down to maybe 0.35, 0.30 or 0.25 mgs but not sure due to my syringe.

Main symptoms are nausea, headache, hot flashes and a floaty state of mind.  I've had some irritability and vulnerability, which is the pattern for me when I make a cut.

My mental state so far is stable.  I am aware that this is WD and am not scared I am slipping into depression.

Will keep posting as I get farther away from the cut.
