Hey all,

just opening a thread for the Ireland members.

Cheers,

Laura

Feb 2015 Took venlafaxine for 5 days only... experienced withdrawal that made me completely non-functional

Mar 2015 took under 1mg of Sertraline for 10 days in an attempt to combat Venlafaxine withdrawal. Got adverse reactions.

After stopping Sertraline, withdrawal got much worse. New, horrific symptoms.

June 2015 Still non-functional but slowly getting better. Still brain zaps, migraines, sweating, heart racing, depression, crying spells

September 2015: 24/7 brain zaps, twitches in the face, no concentration, bad memory, language skills deteriorating.

Yay! We can make a self help group. They're handing antidepressants out like sugar pills here, so we probably don't have to wait long until we have more people.

PS: I'm in Dublin too.

Hey! Great thread idea!

2009-2012: Lexapro 10mg, and then varying doses , multiple failed attempts to wean myself off. Instant withdrawal side-effects, including: loss of balance; forgetfulness; bruxism; apathy; pins & needles; extreme anxiety; panic; extremely vivid dreams and nightmares; akathisia; suicidal ideation; sleep paralysis; skin crawling; and more.2012-March to 2013-December: Lexapro 10mg, Life was great.2014-January to 2014-December: Weaned myself off, using 10mg and 5mg doses only. Alternated & skipped days until finally going cold turkey. Experienced restless leg at night, temporarily. Numbness in scalp, sporadically.2015-January to 2015-April No medication. 2 weeks after taking final pill - choking sensations [ongoing]. 6 weeks after final pill - Random, all-over, burning / pin-prick / electric shock sensations throughout my body [Ongoing] (Never any brain zaps though.) Tinnitus symptoms [temporary.] Loss of sensation in throat/neck [ongoing]. MRI of brain and C-spine; blood tests; all clear. 2015-April to now 10mg Lexapro. Loss of sensation in fingers [constant]. Still experiencing burning / pin-prick / electric shock sensations all over my body since before reinstatement [almost constant]. Still experiencing numbness in throat/neck since before reinstatement [constant.] Balance problems [infrequent]. Pins and needles in legs & feet [infrequent.]<p>2015-Nov to date: 10mg daily. Numbness in finger remains, some electric shocks, but it doesn't bother me anymore. Loss of sensation / motor capabilities in tongue / throat / airways continues, seems to be getting worse.

I would love to meet up because I don't know anybody in person who suffers from this. Once I get there maybe we could go on a massage or something.

Hey everyone.

I would be interested in meeting up for an hour or so (maybe somewhere relatively quiet, like one of the quieter coffee shops or something?? :-) I find it hard to hear over crowd noise) over the next couple of months.

Thanks for thinking of this idea, Laura1981!

I don't really visit this website these days because my symptoms aren't bothering me too much at the moment, and I like to keep this whole situation out of my head as much as possible. However, I do think it's important that this topic is tackled from every angle possible, and it's important that the issue is kept alive and not confined to a few books and message boards.

Brilliant, let's meet up when Servadei is in Dublin.

We can work out the details via personal message. We can meet at my place if we need a quite place without crowds where we can talk in peace.

@both: So sorry you're still feeling so bad! I'm similar. I hope we all get better soon!

Hi I'm also from Ireland trying to get off venlafaxine second attempt 😕 had to take 37.5mg last night as WD was just too much for me .. Going to take it slowly now... still feel sick to my stomach but mentally taking the 37.5 has taken the edge off, feel about 90 just don't feel right but determined to get off these tablets .. Can't believe one pill causes all this misery have been Taking Effexor for the last 5 plus years and just want to feel normal again whatever that might be good or bad without meds :)
Trying to come off Effexor (venlafex XL 37.5mg prolonged release) second attempt tried two years ago and it's was the worst thing I ever experience in my life ... Was pill free about 10 days up until yesterday 9/8/15 when I had to take a tablet was feeling lost, confused, sick to my stomach, diahrea, brain zaps, crying, tired not tired, foggy brain, feel about twice my age and I'm only 35 .. I know some people say that it takes a few weeks for it to work but a lot of my mental symptoms have cleared today still emotional but no brain zaps and can string a sentence together ... Scared I might have to take this amount forever to be able to function!! Have been on Effexor for 5 years + not sure anymore don't have anyone who understands this and would really like some help to come off it without the life stopping side effects .. This is starting to effect my marriage and children's lives as I just don't really care through the fog!!😢 feel so stuck in my life and can't move on don't know what to do!!
UPDATE:
Have managed to reduce my dose of 37.5mg by taking out beads
Am taking out 40 beads a day now(started with 10 then 20 etc) - hold this for about 4 weeks depending on WD symptoms
Night sweats are crazy, low energy at times, WD gets worse around my period and my mood plummets but realise now it's just a phase and does pass
All in all feeling better but have to remind myself to take each drop slowly as it can take up to two weeks for body to show WD issues
Update March 2016
Now taking out 100 beads from a 37.5mg generic Effexor .. Dropped by ten every 4 to 8 weeks except last drop went from 80 to 100 beads and can feel the difference in mood which is low, don't care, foggy head etc etc but going to stick it out for now as it will pass 😖

Hi Nino, welcome! I can't believe how many people get harmed by these poisons in Ireland.

Are you in Dublin? We're so many already, we can found a survivors group.

I was thinking: What about a walk from Greystones to Bray some day? Exercise is supposed to grow new neurons ;)

Sorry to hear about your current suffering, guys.

I have been going through a much better time for the past two months, and I am so grateful for it. I can't even bare to look at my own signature below my posts, because I don't even want to think about the horrible time I was going through for the first five months of the year.

I'm still in the phase of being shocked that this is happening to so many people around the world. I'm still trying to process it all in my head. I really want to contribute to working towards bringing this all out into the open.

I hope you all feel better soon.

@Servadei: We'll do something more light then. After this Wednesday I'll have time to coordinate. I'll send you guy's personal messages.

@Someday: That's so great to hear that you're feeling better. I'm determined to get this out in the open too. I'm planning to work with reporters from local newspapers or TV channels. My dream would be to get a reporter and a couple of victims to meet. It's still all in the works, but good to know others want to take action too.

Oh and I'm feeling better, though I'm not healed yet. Mornings are always the worst because I escape in my dreams and I feel normal...but mornings come so fast, and when I wake up I'm always like...Really life? Lol. And then through the day I feel better and better but I'm still looking forward to my escape in sleep.

Hey,

good that you're asking. I was a bit low, so I didn't have much energy to do anything.

But we should do a SA Ireland meeting. Anybody up for a cup of tea on the weekend?

Cheers,

Hi Laura,

Sorry to hear that you are feeling a bit low :( I am free on Saturday from 2pm onwards. Any time after that would be fine really. Somewhere in Dublin City Centre maybe? I am open to suggestions :)

What about at the entrance to St. Steven's green park? 2pm? If it rains, we can find a café and if it's sunny, we'll just sit in the sun. I'll PM you my phone number and how I look, so that we don't miss each other.

What about the others? Anybody up for the first SA Ireland meeting?

Hi PowerBack!

Sorry to hear you're in the same boat with us. We tried to organize a Dublin members meeting once. I wonder if we should try again.

Anyone up for that?

Cheers, Laura

Hi I'm from rhe North, glad to see some people closer to home on here. Having an awful time with sensitivity to medication and food, anyone else suffer like this?
Prozac for 18years with break in 1999 for pregnancy. Started to feel unwell with numerous problems 2015 and think I was in a tolerance to drug. Started to come off May 2016 and by June 2016 wasn't able to tolerate any medications at all. Was on Lansoprazole as and when need from 2001 but haven't had to take and wldnt have been able to take since June 2016z
