Hello all

 

Does anyone happen to know anything about ROSE GRANIUM ESSENTIAL OIL for alleviating withdrawal symtoms specifically anxiety, depression and insomnia? I heard from a few of my friends going through AD withdrawal that it does wonders. I'd be infinitely grateful for any input.

-2015 september zoloft (20 mg updosed to 125) plus clonazepam for anxiety and panic attacks

2016 Jan replaced clonazepam with chlorodiazpoxide 20 mg

-2016 April cold turkeyed both after a urinary retention surgery with no withdrawal symptom at all

-2018 Jan perscribed Nortriptyline 10 mg for vestibular vertigo 

-2018 Feb due to the horrible side effects which my psychiatrist took for depression and anxiety, Nortriptyline began to be updosed to reach 100 in June

-2018 Oct noticed I wasexperiencing no pleasure in life and decided to taper(zombie-style kind of life)Tapered to fast to reach 50 mg in 2019 Feb

-Terrible withdrawal symtoms began to creep up, had to updose to 75 in June 2019

-Began to make changes in diet and lifestyle and tapered again to reach 30 by 2020 Jan

-(using Brassmonkey method from here on)By May 2020 reached 22.5 when my whole taper process hit the wall due to infection to God-damned Covid 19. Late Sep 2020 restarted my taper 16 mg in Jan 2021, Jan 2021 to Feb down from 16mg to 14.5mg,Feb to March 13mg,March to July had to hold on 13mg due to being sold counterfeit drugs, took me a while to find out and get a new batch and get back on track again,July to August 11.5 mg,August to Sep 10.5 mg,Sep to Oct 9.5 mg, Jan 2022 started the water solution Nori, had to hold for a few months due to the horrible side effects of Covid shots, restarted taper on June 2022, March 2023(now) 1.8 mg (deem myself 60 to 70 percent recovered and functional)

Hello,

Anyone using L-tryptophan while tapering Venlafaxine XL?  Currently, I am taking them around 8 hours apart. As I decrease XL, I gradually increase tryptophan.

From 2012, I took 75 mg XL Venlafaxine along with 36 mg XL Concerta for 6 years until it felt like they were not helping much. Mood was not getting better and I was exhausted all the time.  I tapered over 4 months and quit both meds in November 2018. Got terrible withdrawals around December, 2018. I was not taking any supplements during that time. On top of that, I eliminated sugar, gluten, takeaways from diet during withdrawal period as per a nutritionist recommendation. After 7 months of fighting the withdrawals I re-instated both meds in July 2019. I had to increase the dosage - 150 mg of Venlafaxine XL and 72 mg XL of Delmosart  - for both before the symptoms started to stabilize in 2-3 weeks. After waiting 10 months, I started tapering Venlafaxine again around April, 2020, very slowly this time (10% every 1-3 months). Delmosart XL is still 72mg. Also taking supplements this time. Hoping for better results this time around. Now I'm at 25mg of Venlafaxine XL.

I have been taking B-complexes for a long time, but on my "spectra cell tests" (google it and get one done) by B2 levels went down into a borderline deficiency. I got some "Mega B-stress" by solaray, but only taking 1 out of the 3 per serving because I am was also on Klaire Lab's "vitaspectrum" vitamins (with methylated folate and b-12) and I thought I shouldn't over do it in the B-complex department. I have been on methylated folate and b-12 for a while now. 

 

Because of that optimal living dynamics article I got a special b-2 called "riboflavin-5-phosphate" and I have been taking 1 capsule at 10mg of it a day (Douglas laboratories.) I feel SO GOOD. It is my third or fourth day and I am ALIVE. I thought the problem couldn't be a simple b2 problem, but part of it definitely IS! 

 

I am going to move onto Pure Capsulation's Brand "B-complex Plus" after 2 weeks... it has everything I have talked about in this post in one. 

 

Please read that article. I have been looking through his citations for the article, and I think he is getting this super valuable information from a book that, it is rumored, big pharma sold the rights too....

2021 July: started taking 5HTP, GABA, LTheanine, LTaurine, multivitamin, fish oil, magnesium, holy basil and lithium Orotate, following Julia Ross’.
2021 August: doctor put me on beta blockers 40mg twice a day as I refuse to touch any psych medication. Currently tapering from 10mg.

Zoloft, November 2019.  I worked up to 50 mg and stayed there until 1 year later. I tapered for 3 months, which should consider to be cold turkey.
Tapering schedule:
Month 1: 37.5 mg

Month 2: 25 mg

Month 3: 12.5 mg

Month 4(Half the month): 6.75 mg
Month 4(Other half): 0 mg December 9, 2020

I’ve been taking aminoacids since the early stages of my withdrawal process and they do help with mood. LTryptophan is not damaging in any way, it actually builds up serotonin on your brain. You can take any dose but the ideal is between 500 to 1500 mg 3 times a day. I noticed it’s effects since the very first dose which was amazing; but it’s less intense on the second, third dose… but it’s definitely worth it!
 

I’m currently taking 5HTP instead of LTryptophan as it’s stronger, but it can cause anxiety so I recommend starting with LTtyptophan.

You should take it on an empty stomach because aminoacids compete with the aminoacids in food (in protein), so minimum half an hour before a meal, or two hours after a meal. It kicks in in only 10-15 minutes.


I found all this information in a book called “the mood cure” by Julia Ross, an American nutritionist specialised in mood disorders.

No, LTryptophan is meant to be much lighter, that’s why I started with it. It doesn’t have side effects such as agitation and so. Just start with a small dose like 500 mg and go up from there.

@curiousnootropics I saw the results in 10, 15 minutes. Amino-acids kick in very quickly.
I started with 500 mg every four hours (4 times a day). Then increased the morning dose (when I feel at my worst) to 1000 mg and I ended up taking 1000 mg 4 times a day.

 

I eventually switched to 5HTP because higher doses of LTryptophan gave me more migraines, as I suffer from them.

Any guidance on how to taper 5-HTP ~100mg if taken for a long time?  The one I have is a powder in a capsule. Is it water-soluble?

2014-2019: Clomipramine 12.5mg to 50mg and Tramadol 100mg twice a week, 2019-2020: Clomipramine 50mg and Tramadol 150mg alternate day. 2021-2022: Clomipramine 50mg and Tramadol 150mg-200mg daily, 2022 mid-April: Stopped Clomipramine and Tramadol cold turkey
2022 mid-May: Started Amytriptaline 50mg and tapered over 2 weeks, 2022 mid-June: Took 40mg Cymbalta for 2 days and stopped
2022 mid-June: Taking Clonazepam .25mg to .5mg for sleep and anxiety for about a week., 2022 early July - present: Taking Clonazepam .25mg.
2022 Aug: Escitalopram 2.5mg titrated to 10mg (over 3 weeks), 2022 Aug: Escitalopram 5mg for 10 days, 4.5mg for 10 days, 4.25mg for 5 days
2022 Sep: Escitalopram 4.25mg for 5 days, 4mg for 5 days and then CT, Sep 2002: Fluoxetine 10mg for 5 days | Sep 2022: Fluoxetine 20mg for 9 days. | Oct 2022:  Fluoxetine 30mg for 20 days. | Oct 2022: Fluoxetine 40mg for 46 days
Nov to Dec 2022: Clonazepam(0.25mg morning, 0.5mg afternoon and 0.5mg night; TOTAL of 1.25mg) for 36 days
Dec 2022: Clonazepam 'tapered' over a  week. Replaced with Etizolam. Etizolam(0.5mg) for some days and then Etizolam(1.5mg CR and 0.5mg), Quetiapine(12.5mg) and Mirtazapine(7.5mg). Vortioxetine(10mg) for 6 days, Vortioxetine(20mg) for 22 days.
Jan/Feb 2023: Admitted to psych ward for a month for excessive anxiety and suicidal ideation. Stopped Vortioxetine, Mirtazapine & Quetapine CT and started Venlafaxine 37.5mg, Olanzipine 2.5mg for weeks and then increased to 5mg and Etizolam 2mg. After 3 week, Venlafaxine CTed (due to random body jerks) and replaced with Clomipramine 25mg (due to new diagnosis of OCD). | Mar-mid 2023: Clomipramine gradually increased to 50mg & Etizolam slowly tapered to .75mg
Early-mid 2023: Taper of all three started. Currently at Clomipramine ~42.5mg, Olanzapine ~3.382mg, Etizolam .75mg

Sep 2023: Clomipramine ~42.5mg, Olanzapine ~3.382mg, Etizolam .625mg, Valium 1.25mg

Feb 2024: Clomipramine 30.667mg, Olanzapine ~2.055mg, Etizolam .388mg, Valium 1.773mg

April 2024: Clomipramine 27.7mg, Olanzapine 1.6 mg, Etizolam .346mg, Valium 1.648 mg

5-HTP is a serotonergic agent that acts very much like an SSRI. It therefore needs to be tapered carefully and slowly. Because of its very short half-life it must be dosed several times a day and the reduction needs to be made across the board, i.e. reducing each dose the same amount.

 

It is not water soluble but can be made into a suspension. Working directly with the powder would probably be the easiest way to reduce.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

I was on 5-HTP for many years before beginning my taper, because I read a book about how to cure depression naturally.  I tapered off of it about a year and 9 months ago, when I was still on a low dose of the Lexapro, and had been doing a slow, careful taper for over a year.  I weaned off 5-HTP at the rate of 25% per week. I just emptied a fourth of a capsule, then the next week emptied 1/2, and so on.  I had no trouble at all weaning off.  In fact, my Lexapro taper became easier after I got off of the 5-HTP.    

 

We just don't need drugs or supplements to tweak our brains or their neurotransmitters, in my opinion.

Thank you, this information is invaluable for my peace of mind as I’ve personally been taking 5HTP since my own withdrawal began. I was desperately seeking for help online after four months of hell, and found a (very expensive) practitioner from “The Mood Cure” that put me on aminoacids to help with my symptoms, and was really concerned about experiencing withdrawal from this as well since it’s been longer than a year on them.


I find very interesting that your Lexapro taper became easier after getting off of the 5-HTP. I wonder if it will be the same with the Mirtrazapine for me, as I’m planning to getting off it soon as well. Maybe I should stop the aminos before the Mirtrazapine and not the other way around 🤔 

 

I agree, we don’t need them at all, but we’re misled into taking them by our “trusted doctors” and such! You’re very lucky that your withdrawal journey is over, congratulations.

At 15 years old: unknown antidepressant.
2005-2007: Venlafaxine. Overdosed on benzos.
2011- 2012: Fluoxetine.

2013: started Duloxetine. Overdosed on Zolpidem.
2015: started Venlafaxine 225mg prolonged release after crashing from stopping Duloxetine.
2021, 5th March: Venlafaxine crash from withdrawal begins (from 225mg to 37.5mg in 6 weeks then cold turkey by doctor’s advice).

2021 July: started taking 5HTP, GABA, LTheanine, LTaurine, multivitamin, fish oil, magnesium, holy basil and lithium Orotate, following Julia Ross’.
2021 August: doctor put me on beta blockers 40mg twice a day as I refuse to touch any psych medication. Currently tapering from 10mg.

September: hospitalised.

2021, 8th October: Mirtrazapine 15mg

2021, 18th October: Mirtrazapine to 30mg

I have recently gone on L-Tryptophan. Started off at 500mg per tablet. When I increased to 1500mg (500mg x 3), I noticed mild brain zaps. This is interesting to me as I almost never have brain zaps anymore, except for when I have fever. Thus it can be concluded that the tablets does do something. But that has not really translated to any observable beneficial changes. Not sure about any negative effects either as I have been in a wave and can't really attribute any of it to Tryptophan.

 

Though brain zaps does make me a little concerned as I associate it with the earlier stages of withdrawal.

Nov 2014 - Dec 2019 - 10mg Lexapro (experimented with various dosages during this period)

Jan - May 2020 - On 5mg Lexapro

June - Oct 2020  - On 2.5mg Lexapro

Nov - Dec 2020 - On 1.25mg Lexapro

Jan - February 2021 - On 1.25mg Lexapro (taking alternate days)

March - April 2021 - 300mg St John's wort

March - June 2023 - Started Sam-e 200mg (with Vitamin B complex + TMG)

Current supplements (2023) - Fish oil, Magnesium, Vit B complex

Sept 2023 - L-tryptophan
