I have been a lot healthier since I have been taking apple cider vinegar - I think that helps with candida - we are what we eat.  I have always eaten total rubbish for 59 years now but I am trying to change but I find it hard.  I am in UK and have joined Slimming World and that is basically healthy eating.  I think I am an emotional eater a compulsive eater and an overrated with serious car cravings.  I find Slimming World very commercial but it does focus my attention.  I also find the weigh ins very difficult.  I am unsure whether to continental with it - I also work a lot and find it hard to attend.

How are you feeling at zero?

Joy

Joy,

I'm an emotional eater too (always have been), I also struggle with addiction.

Yes, the ACV has an alkalising effect on the gut.....I'm going to resume taking it (only stopped due to reflux throat soreness).

Its great that you do your weekly weigh-ins, and that is something I must sign up for.  The place I signed up with previously never got back to me (funded by the NHS).  You can do your own weekly weigh-ins at home?!  Put a weight loss chart up on the fridge maybe??

Anyway, I'm doing ok at zero, nothing terrible has happened, just that my gut is off from cycling a long way in the heat yesterday (have never been good in the heat).

I know it's hard but if it makes you feel better it will be worth it.

I am in the same boat diet wise. I saw the Urologist last week for results and he told me kidneys and bladder all fine except an irritable bladder. He has given me some pills for that but I won't be taking them. Side effects are nausea and rapid heartbeat and I don't need that!

The cause of my pain was shown in the scan I had. I have a gall bladder full of stones! So have been urgently referred to a Surgeon and I see him next week. I immediately put myself on a fat free diet and cut out fizzy drinks. I don't drink alcohol since WD. So it's all pretty boring but I think I am in less pain.

Needs must as they say !

Really sorry to hear that Flowers, but thankfully you now know the culprit of your pain.

Those ops are keyhole now - very quick and minimally invasive, and so you will be up and running in no time!

Nevertheless, rest assured I am thinking of you my friend.

We will have to keep encouraging each other on the diet front, but as you say, there is nothing more motivating than improving our health!

Love and hugs,

The weight, or should i say water(??) is dropping off, another 2ibs gone this morning.  I have lost 7ibs of water retention in less than a week.  It's unlikely to be fat in the first week.

I am following a detox/cleanse diet but anti-Candida (so NO sugar, yeast etc, etc).

This morning I had a grayish/white coating on my tongue......probably Candida, but also that sour taste  of bile.

Am still being troubled by GERD.

Roll on Week 2.

Hi jc

I’m so sorry you are both going through such a hard time. Have you sorted appointments for the counselling, hopefully that will help you both recover from the hard time you have been having.

‘Hugs

2006 After sudden death of mother put on 20mg of citaloprom for depression.

2014 Drug stopped working after two weeks of panic attacks felt fine.

Aug 2014. Doctor put me on lyrica for rash on face, diarrhoea, sleeplessness, muscle cramp, bruising. Initial dose too strong, halved dose.  Stopped taking it 22/10/14

2014 severe anxiety after several ssri's attempted, seem to have developed severe  sensitivity to any drug, but giving severe  reactions put on cipralex drop form.started on 2 drops and had to increase by 1 drop every 3 days. Eventually got to 12 drops and had to stop as side effects every step of the way dreadful. Psychiatrist kept telling me to stick with it and my body would get used to it.  Eventually down to 8 drops. Bad reactions throughout the time I was on it

Have been on this until may 2017. Stopped over two weeks. Felt fine for 5 weeks after initial dizziness, nightmares, nausea, insomnia.

Given diazepam by gp and told to take them when anxiety bad. Have only taken them very rarely as they frighten me.

Last two weeks severe anxiety returned and feeling hopeless

11July 2017. Cipralex 2mg. Anxiety, nausea still severe

13 July 2017 Cipralex 1mg due to advice of too high dosage  by kind person on thus site. so dropped from 2mg to 1mg and feelings of anxiety still at severe. As well as nausea, headaches, fatigue.

15 July still feeling extremely anxious verging on panic. Nausea, feelings of fainting, fatigue. Lots of head pains

3 August. Three weeks into trying to stabilise on one drop of cipralex. Still have waking from 4am. Sporadic upset stomach. Nausea.  High anxiety.  Throbbing/burning in nether regions seems to have eased for time being but stabbing/burning in calves of legs. Tinnitus. Occasional half to whole better days but mainly still struggling. Fatigue

Dealing with constipation due to anti-candida diet.

Its never been an issue for me before, but is one of the "die-off" symptoms apparently.

Hope my ND can come up with something.

Nov 25 2015 - Re-instated Cipralex @ 2.5mg daily. WD symptoms faded. Held at this dose and experienced "windows and waves". 12 Oct 2017 Reduced dose to 1.25mg. 13 Mar 2018 Reduced dose to 0.625mg (approx.). 16 April 2018 0mg. Hi Junglechicken,

Don’t know if this is of any help but I take serrapeptase and nattokinese for another health problem, they are enzymes and I don’t have a problem with them as regards withdrawals. I get them from iherb. I’ve found one of the benefits is that they make you as regular as clockwork, great side effect! 😃 I’m not sure if enzymes in general would aggravate withdrawals as I know we are sensitive to lots of things n the only two things recommended over and over again on this site are magnesium and fish oil, but I don’t have a problem with them.

All the best with your diet

Seroquel. 2019:➡️ From 7.25mg to 5.80mg✔️ 2020➡️From 5.60 to 4.80✔️ 2021➡️From 4.60 to 4.0✔️ 2022➡️From 3.95 to 3.55✔️2023➡️ Jan 26=3.50✔️March 17=3.45✔️ June12=3.40✔️ July30=3.35✔️ Sep14=3.30✔️ Oct31=3.25✔️

Thank you Carmie,

I really appreciate that :)

My ND had me on "Similase" (Nutri Advanced) which is an enzyme......she recently wanted me to stop taking it, so as to encourage my gut to start working properly.

The constipation could be down to this new (VERY strict) diet, and maybe WD.

They say if you're "stuck" mentally, your gut goes that way too.

Hey JC,

Looks like you have been through a lot since we last chatted.    I am sorry that you have issues with your health.  I do hope you start to feel better soon.  I needed to heal myself, so took some time off.

Missed keeping up with you,

Skeeter

Current meds: Lexapro 20mg, Valium 6.25mg
Current status: September 2018 forced to go down to 10mg of Valium/Diazepam from around 15mg, with the plan to have me totally of in 2 more months. I was not given a chance to give input at tapering at this speed, please go much, much slower. Luckily I found a new doctor, but was thrown off course by my rapid taper, as of 2/19 am down to 6.25mg, and am stable. Will update with dates of taper ASAP.

I am NOT a doctor. My opinions are just that- MY opinions, based on my personal experiences and research, but your experience and reactions may differ greatly, we are all different! I maintain that a doctor educated in withdrawal is the best place to get info or to get the "go ahead" before changing your medications in any way!

Hey Skeets,

Thanks for your message, missed keeping up with you too.

My health issues are to do with the gut: candida overgrowth in small intestine and reflux (they are linked).

Nothing else yet (WD), but then again I came off Lexapro only a week ago, and so my CNS may not have registered yet that its missing.

I don't blame you for lying low for a while to heal as I know you've had unpleasant health issues too.

We just have to keep on rollin' - move forward for a bit, stand still if we have to (for a while).

The main thing is, we NEVER give up.

JC

Well JC

My husband daughter and son have all fallen out big time over our farm and I am so against my son taking advantage of us all that I am facing a divorce perhaps - bit I  am 59 now and will.not tolerate fools.  I also fancy living on my own for a while - my husbands true colours are coming out.  When I wake in the night and mull.things over I feel under an obligation to commit suicide for a brief while - this is not withdrawal this is me wanting to escape the trouble but I won't it is just a feeling.  My husband ordered a bookcase for the new house - which is in my name only for complex reasons - and now I will have to give backward on that also we were meant to be going on holiday with my daughter and granddaughter and son in law in August but my husband is refusing to go now.

My bunion seems to be healing now - when we had trouble here the other week I had to borrow my daughters trainers and that seemed to set it off.  I have been spinning swimming and sauna today and that has really helped for the stress.

I am too old for all this trouble - I just want peace.

No withdrawal.symptoms whatsoever today despite stress.

Joy

Jan 2023 to July 2023 250mg quetiapine

Tapered off quetiapine again over 2 months - now weight problem

JC,

So proud of you for coming off of the Lexapro!  I still have not started, tapering, but have other worries for the moment.  I am very sad that your husband feels unable to feel joy.  Is he on an AD, maybe? It is very common with many AD's.  I have had that issue since switching to Lexapro.  None of the joy, yet still feel the pain.

You are still the same person as always, and I love that.  Pleased that you have a new home.  I do hope you feel well enough to enjoy it soon.

A white coating on the tongue can indicate thrush (a yeast infection of the mouth), so you my want to look it up beyond the link I have provided.  Here is a totally random, but accurate (for what I learned about thrush years ago) link. .I cannot vouch for the home remedies, I have never had it personally: https://www.emedicinehealth.com/oral_thrush/article_em.htm#what_are_medications_and_treatments_for_oral_thrush

Note the area that says who can diagnose and treat this.  Thrush in adults is very rare, and is usually the result of a weakened immune system.  Just want to be sure that nothing serious is going on.  Home remedies are also offered, but please see a your PMD , first BEFORE TREATING (as stated in the article as well) to rule out any serious issues as the cause . As crappy as you are feeling, I want you to know exactly why you have this, not just make it go away.  Thrush in itself is not dangerous, but does need to be treated (antibiotics do not need to be the first line of defense is what I am saying, but it does need to be properly diagnosed and the source investigated).  If you wake up tomorrow with no coating, great!!

I really hope you feel better soon!

Hi jc

well yes Britain is in bloom but where did the nice warm sunny days go. . Really cold wind out today and back to winter jumpers.

Hope your hay fever gives you relief once you have taken the anti histamine.

Fatigue

Thanks Skeets,

My Naturopath said the white coating is actually my small intestine "clearing" itself of bacteria / toxins.  It tastes salty....really bizarre.

This is because I have been on a Detox / Cleanse diet for a week now.

This makes sense as I have a Candida overgrowth in my small intestine which has been causing reflux (all started after my father died in February).

Do you still think I should get a GP appointment just in case??

JC,

I absolutely think that Naturopath's  have their place.  I cannot tell you if it is thrush or not, I do not use them for my own care, but I do appreciate how much they listen to their patients.  You feel so darned crappy, and the cardinal finding of thrush is a white coating on the tongue.  My concern is that a naturopath has training very different than a GP has, and I have done a lot of research on ND schooling and the differences between the two fields, but I am not an expert..  They can sometimes miss some things they are not trained to look for. ANY kind of doctor can  miss something they do not remember, or were not trained for. This call is 100% yours.  Read some more on thrush, and decide if the signs and symptoms match what you are seeing/feeling/tasting.  If so, an MD SHOULD have a look at you, because there CAN be serious reasons for an adult to have thrush.  Zero guilt involved, actually.  Do what feels right for you.  If you are happy with what the ND tells you, and you have zero worry that it could possibly be anything else, then stay your course.  If it would ease your mind to see an MD, then do that.  Be sure to tell the doc what the ND has been doing, just so they are aware.  I do not want you to stress out over this, just read up on thrush, and make your mind up that way. I am not telling you that there is something bigger going on, nor am I trying to interrupt your treatment with your naturopath.  I am just giving you info.  I have not heard abut what the ND is saying or doing, and I do not know everything, that is for sure!  You can certainly see if it gets better or worse, I do not know how long you have been dealing with this either,  Use your best judgement. If this is day one or two (or more), and the ND can tell you how long this has lasted in other patients, and you trust that, go with it.  I trust you!

I am so sorry that you lost you dad.  We spoke about your parents before, and I cannot tell you how terrible I feel that this happened.  Not the sort of thing you need when you are feeling crappy already.

Rewrote one area, misspoke

Thanks again Skeets,

This is more for me, but I found a website which discusses "healing crisis" whilst detoxing:

https://www.naturaltherapypages.co.uk/article/Detox_Symptoms

I have identified a "coated, pasty tongue" in the list below, and that's exactly what I have, as I've been detoxing for nearly 8 days now.

It isn't white, as I've seen photos of people with oral thrush and its nothing like that.  Just a bacterial film - I also saw my GP (twice) about this in the past, and my dentist and hygienist - none of them were concerned, and the hygienist suggested tongue scraping.

Common Detox Symptoms

Detox can create a number of symptoms in your body as your body goes through the process of purifying itself and eliminating toxins.  Some common detox symptoms include:

  • headaches
  • lethargy
  • temporary muscle aches
  • mucus or other discharge
  • a coated, pasty tongue
  • flu-like symptoms
  • irritability
  • difficulty sleeping
  • weakness
  • cravings
  • nausea
  • constipation
  • diarrhea
  • gas

You may even find that the detoxing process causes you to suffer the old symptoms that you have had that the body has suppressed.  You may think that you are becoming ill but it is important that you continue with the detox and don’t take any medications to help with the symptoms.  The aim to flush chemicals from the body, not introduce more!

Coping with the Healing Crisis

A healing crisis occurs when the body tries to expel toxins at a faster rate than they can be properly disposed of.  The more toxic your system is, the more severe the healing crisis may be.  Healing crises are characterised by a temporary increase in symptoms during the process of detoxification.  You may actually feel worse for a time and conclude that the detox program is not working.  However, the opposite is true.  The symptoms are a sign that the treatment is effective and that the body is cleaning itself of all the old, hidden, accumulated toxins.  This reaction is temporary, and usually passes within one to three days.

To cope with the healing crisis, it is important to drink plenty of fresh water, juices, and herbal teas.  These will help to flush the body of toxins.  It is best to use pure water, and not water that comes from the tap.  Bottled spring water is ideal.  Drink at least six to eight glasses of water a day.  If you are feeling lethargic or tired, the body is telling you that you need to rest.

Hot showers may be very helpful.  Have the water as hot as you can stand it and scrub the skin well.  This will help to eliminate toxins through the skin.  Do not eat too much through the crisis.  Eat light meals that are easy to digest.  Increase the amount of fibre that you are eating and take supplements that cleanse the colon and kidneys.  Meditation can also help with the mood swings and emotions that you may experience during the healing crisis.

JC xx

Day 8 - Detox/Cleanse

Fatigue :(

Tinnitus

Bowel movements vary (3 days of constipation)

Coated tongue (yesterday I had a salty taste, this is normal because my body is expelling old salt deposits)

Irritable

Muscle aches - like I've run a half marathon in my best time

Itchy eyes

Drippy nose

Granted WD could well be playing a part in the above symptoms but I am holding a LOT of toxicity in my body and its got to leave somehow?!

Hopefully not for too long!

Ughhh! detoxes are really tough, I have been extremely irritable (that's the sugar WD apparently), and so everything irritates the heck out of me.

I think I will feel better, as the main aim is to eliminate the candida albicans (reduce the overgrowth in my small intestine) back to a normal population with the GOOD bacteria dominating.  Currently I have a gut dysbiosis.

There is another really good website about detoxing:

http://www.rawfoodexplained.com/symptoms-during-dietary-transition/some-unpleasant-symptoms-and-their-causes.html

Skeets, I really do trust my Naturopath.

For well over a year I had severe eczema all over my face, and upper body (it drove me nuts), if you go back through my update thread you'll see entries about how horrendous it was.  Thanks to my Naturopath, it disappeared.  She put me on a detox/cleanse and also my cholesterol level went back to normal.

ANYWAY, that's enough of my "stuff".

Will catch up on your thread today and its great to have you back!

Skeets, you were right.

It IS oral thrush.

I went to see a pharmacist who diagnosed it on the spot.  Have got a "Daktarin" gel - in the UK, Daktarin is a topical anti-fungal....but this one is an oral gel.

Hi, JC.

I've resisted saying too much because you clearly had a plan and wanted to run it to the ground.  There is, however, a lot of debate about whether or not it is wise to do detoxing and other similar practices that can be quite harsh on the body while in the throes of withdrawal when your system is already compromised.  It may well be that all of this has contributed to the crappy feeling you've had for some time.  For a long time I was a zealot about healthy practices, etc. and thought that would help me get through withdrawal.  Sadly, that was not the case and I've backed off a lot of the protocols I looked into because I don't see them as likely to help me during withdrawal.   I think these things are great for those that are healthy or generally healthy and hope to be able to do them in the future, but for now I've backed off of collateral measures because I have no way of knowing how they will hit my (very fragile) system.

Best,

Andy

Sertraline 50mg and Clonazapam .375mg from 2000 -- symptoms of dizziness Spring 2012

increased to .5 Clonazapam and 100mg Sertraline -- no improvement

Benzo microtaper from November 2012 to November 2014 (followed benzo sites "taper benzo first")

Started Sertraline taper in December 2014 cut by 25mg to 75mg; 62.5mg 1/1/15 and 50mg on 2/1/15

Held at 50mg through April 5 to use liquid
Reduced dosage in 10% or less drops from 50mg to 25mg -- at single tablet of 25mg on 10/5/15

Transitioned to all liquid for accuracy while tapering -- Horrible insomnia -- back to 25mg liquid and held until October 1, 2016

10/16 -- 11/18 tapered very slowly to 10.6mg.  No real improvement and never really stable so updosed to 12.5mg (1/2 a pill) for convenience and long hold.

After 8+ months of holding with no noticeable improvement decided to add .4ml of liquid Prozac (about 1.5mg) to see if that improves the situation

Supplements, Magnesium, D3, Omega 3, curcumin, Valerian, 81mg Aspirin, L-Theanine, Vit. C,

Likewise my body can only cope with so much excessive exercise and sauna.

It is good to do healthy food and living but perhaps this is not the time for extremes of any kind.  you are only just off and that can be a challenge for some
