Hello Fellow Journey Makers,

I hope this finds you all in good form.  So I can chalk off another month :)

Things have been slightly more rocky than before Christmas, but I am not too concerned as it's just a blip on the landscape and it will work itself out over time.  I have had a lot more "Great" days than "Bad" so that is all that matters.

I hope you are all continuing to heal, and find balance in your lives.

1997 - 2001 Seroxat 10mg

2001 - 2013 Escitalopram 10mg

Gradual taper from 10mg to 5mg over 2.5 years (between 2011 - 2013)

Last taper from 5mg to 0 under advice from doctor done in 1 month (too damn fast!) - included missing out days.

Have been drug free since Oct 2013.  - Yep 5 years drugs free

DC,

That's really great, and very philosophical that you can see the "bigger picture" of your healing.

Looking forward to catching up on the 18th.

that is great to hear! Even when in a wave- if it's a lighter one than those before it's a huge relief, right?:)

I am on a really good path as well... had 2-3 months feeling almost completely "normal" again.. for 2 weeks now I am too feeling a little off balance but nothing compared to those waves I had before so I am truly glad:))))

what I still find shocking from time to time is how my nervous system reacts to happy excitement. every time I go to a party or friends dinner or whatever- the first 30 minutes or so my body sort of "shuts down" similar to a panic attack... I sweat and can't concentrate on a word anyone says, shake a little .. I mean as I said I am glad that I am

even in a place now where I CAN go to parties again;)) still I hope that these last bits and pieces will fall together

Thanks to all for your kind words.

Pepita, it is so nice to hear that you are feeling a lot better than you did 6 months ago and that your journey is on an even path.

Flowers, yes any good day does reinforce the healing process and I am really glad to think that those days are substantially outnumbering the bad. Though old habits die hard and my nagging brain keeps telling me that this is the calm before the storm, but I must not listen to those types of notions as they are purely negative and nothing comes of thinking negatively. Onwards and upwards is the order of the day.

Peace and love,

Hi All.

I hope you are all well and continuing to heal in your own timely manner and way.

I can tick off another month of being drug free :)

I am experiencing some strange heat rashes and lumps / bumps mainly on my hands, head and face from time to time. I am keen to find out if other group members have had any similar experiences when either being off Lexapro / Escitalopram for a fairly long time.  I must admit, that my stress level has been somewhat raised in the past month, so it could be linked to that.

Let me know your thoughts.

Peace,

Hi DC,

Sorry to say that they don't ring any bells with me, and I have suffered from heat rash etc., in the past.

The only thing that comes to mind is some kind of allergic reaction, maybe histhamine??

I hate not knowing what something is, so sorry I can't offer anything more concrete.

Hi DC. It's good to hear from you . Glad to hear it's going well. How are your other symptoms ? ( if any ). :)

Many SSRI's and SSNRI's over 20 years. Zoloft for 7 years followed by Effexor, Lexapro, Prozac, Cymbalta, Celexa, Pristiq, Valdoxan, Mianserin and more - on and off. No tapering. Cold turkey off Valdoxan - end of May 2014

Hi AliG,

Most of the symptoms are either gone or greatly reduced. I do get head pressure from time to time, usually in stressful situation, but I now know what it is and can handle them. I also find that I get stress if I am hungry, though nowhere near diabetic, it is definitely to do with blood sugar levels. I hear that these can be screwed up by the meds, and hopefully will get better in time. I would say that I am 95% healed now :)

How are you progressing in your journey?

DC,

Just curious as I got my blood sugar test result back yesterday (4.5).  What was yours?

I only ask because I've had blood sugar issues as well, and yet mine is "normal".

Am still working on weight loss and reducing this right down.

Hi JC,

Sorry I haven't responded sooner, been so busy ;)

I haven't had my blood sugar level checked, so I can't tell you a figure. I am adverse to going to the doctors unless really necessary, as I'm sure a lot of us are. If I do ever get it checked then I'll let you know.

Peace,

I definitely agree that ADs do upset the Blood / Sugar levels and it is far more pronounced in withdrawal. I don't think it can be entirely down to an age thing.

Hi All.

Just checking in at my 3.5yr stage. Also I have just completed a 2-day introduction to Holistic Massage, which was absolutely wonderful and I am contemplating on taking the 11 month Diploma Course next year.

I would need to have case studies to complete the course and I thought a good pool of people would be those in my local area, that are in withdrawal and have anxiety / depression, who would like a free massage so that I could write up notes on my practice. Of course there would be no personally identifiable details in these notes, so confidentiality would be assured.  Would this interest anyone? Ideally I would be looking to perform neck and shoulder massages to see if this would alleviate WD symptoms and / or depression / anxiety.

Let me know you thoughts.

Hi Bhasski,

For me (and everyone is different), it was around the 2 year mark, that I realised that things had started to get better. How are you measuring your improvement? are you keeping a daily log? what symptoms are you currently experiencing? Why were you placed on meds in the first place?  Sorry for all the questions.

Namaste,

I am feeling severe Anhedonia.. fatigue.. sexual dysfunction, memory issues, and so cognition... Anxiety and many more things also sleep issues.

I took 10 mg Nortriptyline because I have my brother's wedding tomorrow and some functions today too. I was not able to sleep.

I was put on meds because I was unable to recall anything that I prepared for PG exam and got anxious and stopped studying and talkng . My family knew that the memory bothered me from a long time for about 2 years. So that was the start of medicines for 3 years diganosing me bipolar.

But It started with my writers cramp. Always bright in studies and also having good handwriting, I started having hand blocking feeling and my handwriting deteriorated to the extent of non readable. Especially maths, i was making unreadable digits which even I was not able to comprehend.

Then I since confident started looking answers with Physiotherapy.

Gym .. but nothing worked. It was start of my engineering.

Then a neurologist which sent to a psychiatrist... Who idiotically diganosed.dystonia and gave me Pacitane. I started having euphoria frequent urination.. started dreaming of a girl .. say infatuation.. and then after 2 months . Panicked and depressed.

This was the first bout of depression. Then some benzos or ssris.. i don't know about that .... which aggravated condition and my mother come to.my hostel and interrupted and I stopped and started having severe panick that I thought of dropping the year. But my mother's effort put.me in line and I completed engineering with difficulty of memory. Prior to that I never complained of memory issues.

The second bout I told .. may be it was the stress induced wave that I gave up on meds.

Now, at present , i am a lost cause .. and thinking of reinstating with Moclobemide as I am far from functioning.

I am sorry for such a long story. But I am.at function where people are busy enjoying and I am numb, anxious.

Hi All.

Just checking in. As some of your may have realised, I haven't been such a frequent user of this site for quite sometime.  Work pressures and other life pressures seem to always take precedence when I plan to update my thread.

Any way I am doing really well, and can say that there is a life after Escitalopram / Lexapro. I now enjoy going on weekend breaks and longer holidays, where as when I was on this med it was one of the hardest things to do. I would feel so ill on the build up to getting away and then when away I would be counting the days to returning home. I believe it was because home is my "safe" place.

Life can be hard from time to time, but it is all the more richer without being supressed by the meds.

My holistic therapist (VG) has continued to help in ways that I don't even think she would have imagined. The Reflexology, Massage, EFT and Metamorphic Touch have played such a huge part in my recovery process. Without her expertise, advice and skills, I think I would have sunk long ago and given in to the idea that I was on this med for life.

I hope that you are all healing in your journey's and I am now 100% sure that we all heal in time, once we are free from these meds.

Peace & Love,

Hi Fellow Travellers on this journey of discovery.

I hope you are all well and bearing up to the fun and games that withdrawal can bring.

I can now report that I am 5 years free from Escitalopram and that means free from all psych medications.

I now consider myself healed.... I do experience anxiety when stressed but I have decent coping mechanisms now and the anxiety feelings and thoughts are nowhere near as scary as they use to be.  So please if you are struggling remember that it will and does get better in time.  As I have always said, I believe that we all heal it is just that some take longer than others and as we know recovery is never linear.

I will continue to check-in from time to time as this community has been a life saver and continues to offer good sound and solid advice to all who are in the throes of withdrawal.

Namaste,

DC.
