I believe we are in charge of our own journey.  I know you have struggled from your recent cuts but it also sounds like you are aware of the consequences too.

It does take a lot to go through this and most people don't get it.

I continue to wish you well on your journey.

My Dear friends

This is my 8th day on 2.3Mg and so far this cut has not been bad... but also not very good as well. This whole process drives me tired and i loose patience time and again. There are some thoughts which cause fear on particular days but i just accept them and than anxiety goes away. I went for a trip to Greece the last weekend and while entering the border with my car we got stuck into a long que. I had a very brief moment of panic which resulted in my body trying to pull me down but than i just preserved my calmness and everything went well and we had a good weekend by the beach.

Today at work... i have started to feel a bit of foggy brain and i have a meeting with the CEO in about two hours time. I am feeling calm but deep inside me i have this worry that things might not go OK. Anyway trying to persevere so just take the life as it comes.

When i compare myself with me on 15Mg and 6Mg of Bromazepam there has been a lot of improvements... a lot of symptoms have gone currently and the anxiety is nowhere near the levels when all this thing started last year in March. I have low motivation now but that changes on some days so i am trying not to worry myself about it. I am living a full productive live so i am proud of that and i really believe that i will make it.

ON bad days my brain tricks me into thinking that this nighmare will never end but normally after a bad day there are definitely good days so those give me hope. If you can read the start of my topic you will notice the difference between me then and now. I am Grateful for this forum bu at the same time i am trying to keep away from it as too much reading changes my focus and increases the anxiety.

I wish luck to everybody on your fights. We all can make it if we really want. DO not succumb to drugs if you have a bad day... soon it passes and you can continue in a better one. Just live the bad days be there and do not overtire your brain. Rumination in fact is a good sign on those days showing that the brain is healing.

Good Luck Santino

Hi Santino,

You are making progress and I understand the up and down of the journey.  I find that my reaction to people and situations is much more sensitive these days but also much more truthful.

Keep taking good care of yourself.   You have a good perspective on what's going on for you and it's good that you know how distorted our brains become during this time.  So many times I have had to remind myself that I was in withdrawal and to just have faith.

You can do it.

Thank you for posting on my thread.

Another short update...

Currently on my third night of 2Mg dose. The last three nights were ok in terms of sleep. Long time i have not sensed any brain fog... i think i am done with that symptom with just very minor episodes.

The only one which is persisting currently it is a high degree of low motivation which in itself is a source of worry especially related with my working life.

Do you think this feeling is related to WD my friends...???!!! I am not sure whether currently this is the real me more or the WD part. This feeling is not with me all the time anyway as it clears up on some particular days.

All the best

Hi Santino,

Looks as though you and I have been stuck on the Remeron (Mirtazapine) merry go round...lol tapering off this drug is horrendous, I'm currently at 2.8mg and tapered from 3mg two weeks ago, I have noticed a little pattern with each taper, like you its my first time being on an antidepressant i'm also hyper sensitive however I know, for the first week I taper I instantly notice the low mood that resembles a depression, lack of motivation, body aches and pains, low energy, by the second week I do see a gradual improvement with mood being more optimistic and feel a little more energetic, and that my cognitions are faster, I'm probably gonna hold for at least another week maybe two.

Another interesting observation of mine is the brain frog that persists when I taper the first week, its as though I can't think, I have noticed also that the first week each time I taper I get some restless sleep, frequent waking, and nightmares, this second week its not so much nightmares but more unpleasant dreams that are emotionally content heavy, which is why i'm waiting the extra week or two before tapering again.  My theory is that if my subconscious brain is experiencing those unpleasant side effects from the taper then I should acknowledge that my brain needs a little longer.  But I totally understand the impatience and wish to be off this drug.  I too want more than anything to be totally drug free but then again, i'm not rushing to be left suffering for months and then having to reinstate a dose due to my impatience and rushed tapering.  Like you I found this site and have read and read so much and learnt incalculable lessons from the wisdom of the moderators, ie Alto and Scallywag, Remember everyone reading this and contributing, you could be the light shining that inspires others to keep on going when they feel like giving up!

I think it may be better to hold at least another week, and see if your motivation improves, I notice with tapering my motivation also goes out the window and I feel a despair that life's drudgery is getting me down. I also think that as males we're not really taught  to acknowledge our emotions, except anger, which in a messed up world is socially acceptable and its not until life becomes unbearable, and we're completely psychologically exhausted that our bodies warns us and we feel immobile that we look under the hood.

But i'm sure glad I've read your posts Santino keep up and keep going your miracle is coming

Hey Star Boy

Thanks a lot for reminding me for my next update.

So brother i have been on 1.4 MG since 29th of June. I know i am going a bit faster than usual but i am just trying to preserve the sleep and push forward eventhough some symptoms are yet present. I want to be off this drug if possible by the end of autumn. Anyway that remains to be seen. Anyway i have had a tough time for the last year but things have improved at these low levels of Remeron.

Same as you i had a lot of brain fog and it comes back sometimes now but at a lower density than when i was at 7.5Mg doses. Do not give up my friend. We are going to make it.

You are doing great Santino!  I really understand wanting to be off the drug.

Only people on this site would understand tapering 1.4mgs of the drug might take till the end of the autumn.

I too have had periods where I lack motivation and I knew that the lower doses of Remeron are even more sedating than the higher doses.

I rest quite a bit these days but trying to stay patient.

HIbari Thanks a lot my friend for your good words.

I really appreciate them. It is good to have you on my side while tapering this med and reassuring that things will be OK. I am already sensing that the things will be Ok as my symptoms lessening a lot on particular days but still when you have opinions from people who have gone the same way and are healing you get more convinced you have done the right choice.

I hope things with your lamictal will go smooth and well and you will be soon free my friend.

Thanks a lot for your message.

Santino, it's a delight to read about how you're living your life and how you're viewing your withdrawal. One year ago, did you think you would be an inspiration to others going through withdrawal?

Hi Scallywag

I have been sincere all the time with my posts and to tell the truth even now i feel a bit scared reading all the messages that i have written into my topic.... :-)

My life last year was to say the least miserable. To imagine all my symptoms from benzo WD including terrible anxiety, akathisia, very deeeeep suicidial depression on some particular days, terrible sleep every two three days with horror dreaming and anxiety soo early in the morning... they seem to all be a thing of the past now. Meditation and acceptance have played a big role on it my friend. Your assistance too was great in my difficult times when i would really put in question my existence.

Anyway i still have low motivation to do things at work, medium level depression, back pain and rumination accompained with brain fatigue on particular days but life is livable again. Last year i would come to work wait for the time and run to my home like a robot. Even when going out i would stay alone at my preferred bar near my home just drink my decaf and think nonstop how my life is finishing while my baby's daughter life was starting. I confess i would cry most of the nights before sleep just thinking i would not be able to see my daughter grow up. In contrast now i can feel for people, i can face some problems (not all maybe), i enjoy going for a walk with my daughter at the park, i can plan for my vacations next week and most of the time i enjoy staying with other people. These all bring a sense of normalcy to me which i almost lost totally last year.

Should i be proud of myself...???!!!! I am not sure as i still struggle here and there but life goes on as a train and i am trying to clinch my hands on my wagon... I know i have gone a bit fast with the cats but i was not a long time user and as long as i was feeling wd subside i would go for another cut. Currently at 1.2 and hopping by the end of autumn to be there. If i feel destabilizing i do not mind stopping cuts though. Anyway i am still far from a success story but acceptance plays a big role. Once i followed you guys advice and accepted my situation things became easier. Still very very tough but livable and now i feel the difference.

Thanks to all of you and i will continue to update my signature time after time until i reach the 0 level. I am hoping Altostrada will not mind putting into my topic the here comes the sun symbol soon... hahahah :-)

Hugs for everybody and believe in yourselves. I know many of you need these reassurance on the bad days. I still do need it some times, but the good days tell me that i need to push forward. And I WILL DO.

HI ScallyWag....

Thanks for the star my friend. That is a lovely feeling. I will continue to be patient with tapering. Slow as your body lets you is the best... I remember the moves i was doing with the meds last year and the crazy instability from day to day.

I am trying to keep off the forums nowadays but i come in SA often to update my tapering schedule and to write down my progress. So definitely i will write a success story when i reach to that point. Now need to prepare cause after 5 days i will travel to Greece for my holidays together with my family. That's such a lovely feeling.

All the best my friend...

Dear Friends

Time for another short update.

It is my third day with only 0.8Mg. I have noticed that at these low doses my WD symptoms are far bearable and they do not last more than 2 max 3 days. That is why i have continued with higher cuts and a shorter time of holding. Of course if the body says enough is enough i can still hold. For the moment anyway i am continuing.

Just came back from a beautiful holiday at the beach (10 days) with my family, through which i relaxed somehow but at the same time was playing the role of a full time dad to my 1 year old daughter. The one who came into this world when i was living the worse hours of my life.

The WD symptoms that i am having these days are purely of Physical nature due to antihistamine receptors getting released. I am currently experiencing stuffed nose, back pain, headache (all at a bearable level) and on my worse days medium level of rumination. Fatigue has gone away and it shows mildly on some very rare days.

Today is my second day at work and this back to reality thing really hurts but that is life. I will try to push as much forward as possible. The business i started last year in November while in terrible WD is doing good so that is another thing to rejoice.

I AM REALLY HAPPY I WENT THIS WAY AND DID NOT LISTEN THE DOCTORS. RIGHT NOW I WOULD BE A BOX STUFFED UP WITH ALL KINDS OF MEDS AND NEVER SURE WHETHER MY LIFE WOULD BE BACK OR NOT.

I am hoping to continue with this rhythm of deductions and i see the end of autumn as the maximum point where i will be free from these f... meds.

Keep on fighting my friends ... It is doable.

Another short update my friends...

I did another considerable big drop from 0.8 to 0.6 one week ago. The first days were OK and i started to feel WD (mainly a bit of fatigue and lack of motivation, Headache and bone pain) two days ago. I am still in a warning area for this drop but i hope it will last some more days and it will clear up as usual. This show i can not do a drop of more than 20% even i am at the the very last stages now. So i will stick to 20% deductions as long as i feel ok and let's see. My WDs last maximum 10 days and then the symptoms abate and i somehow get myself back.

Apart from these problems i think tapering is doable. I would not advice to go as fast as me... but i did it that way cause i used Remeron for only 2 months and while i was dropping Remeron i was still in WD after fast drops of benzos. Anyway life is beautiful on the other side again... trust me on this one. On the days when the light at the end of the tunnel is so strong i am ready to take on the life again.

Good Luck my friends.

I hope i will be able to write my success story some day.

You are doing great even though I know you are feeling your recent cuts.

My dear friends.

I am looking for support on an important issue for me.

As on 23rd of August i am on 0.5Mg but i notice that for the last 6-7 days i have the usual flu like symptoms but at the same time I am unable to sense aromas (either good or bad). I assume that this is related with the WD. Can you please let me know whether such thing is a symptom of WD and whether any of the ones who are tapering remeron are experiencing the same thing..???

All the best

HI Hibari...

Thanks for your concern and your comment on my topic. I am doing ok so far. Life goes on but i can consider myself at 75-80% still has a lot to do to reach 100%. Anyway things seem easier now and as long as i am able to keep depression parameters stable i am ok with myself.

It is good that we fought the fight and did not submit to the doctor's will. That is the good thing i learned from all this ordeal.

All the best

 Hello Friends.

Time for another short Update.

Currently as of today i am at 6th night of 0.3Mg of Remeron per night which translates at 2.1Mg per week. It is like a dream for me to be able to function a lot better with just that small dose considering all the bullsh*t i was fed by the doctors one and a half year ago. Do i have bad days...??? Yes i do... but no way that level of anxiety and depression i was experiencing constantly during the time the doctor was changing medicines like candies.

For the moment i am able to enjoy life, i do not isolate myself all the time waiting for the time to go home, I do not function like a robot, I can laugh with my wife, i can hug my little baby daughter and be happy while i show her around the park near by my home, i do not get mad with my older son in case he teases me for anything :-), I can plan my holidays and actually i can go and enjoy while there, I am not scared to plan things for the next day fearing that in the morning this night window will disappear.

Apart from all these positive things... i still consider my self as around 75-80% healed. I still get tired easily, have on rare days some kind of brain fog, my sleep is not still solid good, i have lack of motivation .... but anyway as long as it is manageable i think i will survive.

Good luck to all of you my friends and fight for claiming your lives back it is definitely doable.

Santino, that is great that you are now taking only 0,3 mg mirtazapine. You must have quite a strong will and personality to come that far. I hope you will manage to get drug free without any unexpected problems. You are a warrior!

HI Martina23

Thanks a lot for you message my friend. By the way i am not a warrior but i made a decision to be there for my children. With the Remeron i loosed all the emotions and i never returned to my old me. Now my self has reemerged and i am just trying to manage my weak points. This has been a battle which i think  i will win soon....

I wish you all the best too my friend. Keep on fighting the fight...

Dear Friends....

I am continuing with 0.2Mg and i was doing OK until yesterday. It seems something happened yesterday which is pushing me again to some sort of anxiety (not something that i can not manage but it is there). In my floor at work there were transferred some persons (better say two of them) which i was trying to avoid during all this time as they are quite toxic for me. So now i will have to see them everyday and this has initiated some spiral of bad thinking. Anyway in the evening i seem to get better and even though i had some anxiety last night i managed to have a good sleep. But as soon as i would wake up my mind would run to that situation.

I am scared i do not run into anxiety again right now that Remeron is almost at its end. Is it still related to WD or is more the situational factors and who I am that plays a role here...?? Have you had some similar stories and do you have any advice on what should i do for such problem...??

All the best

HI Hibari

Thanks my friend for all your support. It is good to know that some friends are following my progress after each cut. Can you imagine while last year i was taking benzos and remeron everyday today i am just taking 0.1Mg which is equal to 15Mg in 150 days... :-) So that means right now i am taking only 2 15Mg pills per year.... :-)))) It really feels like a dream.

I have one more station to go at 0.05Mg and than i reach the finish line. I just need 20days more... :-)

Good luck to you too with the Lamictal my friend. You have done perfectly and you will again do perfectly. Wish you luck.

Dear Friends

Finally at the last station of my tapering travel. I am currently at 0.05Mg of Mirtazapine per day which means i am currently taking one 15Mg pill in 10 months... :-)

Things are good on some days and not very good on some others but i am continuing the fight till the end. I will not be long on this stopover in the forum but now i have joy in my life. I can listen a touchy song and cry, i can listen a rhythmic song and i can dance together with my daughter... The things are returning to their normal place. I have cut myself totally off from alcohol and i have no plan to resume it any time soon. I can sleep quite good with just 2-3 wake ups during the night which have been the norm for most of my life. The fatigue has almost gone away and i can do things.
Things continue to be very boring with my work but i have no choice at the moment. At least now i am not that scared as the business i started in November is doing good so most probably even if the things go bad at work i can simply go off and still be able to live a normal life.

That is from me for the moment friends.

Try to persevere... last year at this time i never thought there was hope... and now i realize there was hope all the time. The meds just do not let us see the hope.

Good Luck Santino

Hello my friends...

My latest update... At 0.05mg and things not good.

Everything started with a  notification for the job change.

Anyway I pushed 2-3 weeks until my manager called me last Thursday and made me a proposal to stay with the department but to take over one team there. There were some problems with my title which I could live with but I will have five people's reporting to me. Two of them  are toxic people for me and I was trying to avoid at all costs.

The other option is to shift to another department but that will mean to change my office where I feel already comfortable. So since Thursday two half sleepless nights and tonight scared as hell what is going to happen tomorrow as I need to make up my mind and I am nowhere near deciding it.

I have another option to resign but that would mean other troubles... Financially and within the family as well...

I was doing good and than this BUM... Life is soooo cruel sometimes. Bad sleep on Saturday and very bad one last night. Today i feel pains all over my body and depression feelings have taken over.

I appreciate any advice from you my friends. I really hope I will clinch somewhere and not go down again... 1f641.png:-(

Santino, I'm sorry to hear about this struggle.  I know that during this process our nervous systems are so sensitive so that any stress feels even harder.    I find that it's important to control what you can while change is going on.   I suggest you hold your final cut till you make a decision about your work situation.

I know that over the past year,  I have discovered that some of my depression has to do with some career areas that I no longer want to be involved in.  That sometimes my low mood has to do with feeling stuck or without choices.   Perhaps there is a way of looking at your choices as "not forever" choices.  If you have to make some decisions at work, maybe they could be intermediate choices and when you are finished with your taper, you could reevaluate again.   I know that for me, my withdrawal at times has made me look at my life with a more extreme view.  I'm not saying that the circumstances in  your life are not real and that your perceptions are not accurate.  But for me, there is an intensity in my brain that causes me to perceive things with more fear than I ever had before.   The stress is real, but my reaction is more intense.  This may not feel accurate for you but wanted to share my perspective.

Be kind to yourself and I know you will make it through this period.

Hibari

HI Hibari

All that you said is fully accurate with my situation my friend.

Even for me i feel already fed up with the career path and my field of expertise at work. I have a sense and feeling of being stuck and than withdrawal makes me think i am not even at the right place. When i started Remeron and started tapering the benzos my mind seemed to go to a kinda deadlock. I was not able to think properly and talking was a real mumble. I am surprised how i managed to hold up my job during all these times. Anyway i have had a lot of changes in the last two years in an industry who is slowly dying and the stress is too much to handle. The only reason i am forced to still continue is a loan i have to pay. Anyway i have a small business so maybe i will need to set priorites regarding that and take a decision. Now the things at work are tough again as i already explained and there are a lot of fishy things going on, i am not stable enough and not sure which direction to go. It is true that in times like this we maximize all the problems and that is not easy considering that i was in the last dose of remeron and at least i could have taken that factor out of the equation if these changes would come later.

Anyway i am trying to hold tight for the moment and preserve stability Hibari. I am not sure how the things will unfold but let's see..

Thanks a lot for your answer my friend. It means a lot for me.
