YH. I'm so very sorry too. I can understand that it must feel overwhelming to you right now but many have fought this battle and won.

There is every reason to think that you can overcome this too.

I agree that it's a moment by moment situation, just putting one foot in front of the other as you consider your options.

There is always hope and we are here for you.

Are there any cancer support groups near you where you can get some on-the-ground support? Unlike withdrawal, people do understand cancer, and there are many support systems in place. My father belonged to one, and I've had several friends who fought cancer and belonged to support groups and found them helpful.

I know nothing only that I have cancer...got after 5:00 on Friday.... wonderful pcp I have did not even call me == secretary did and she could not even answer a question when she told me they were doing a panel.... wanted to know what that was...she had no idea????  Have to find a cancer dr next week to even talk about it... plus my pain in my arm, underarm and breast has raged so I probably have cancer in my arm.  Maybe that is what my abdominal pain is and they could not figure it out.  I am probably eaten up by cancer as I waged against the psych drugs....struggling

I do not know how I can get through the biggest battle of my life when I am so ravaged and depleted by drugs and in high anxiety even higher now and insomnia which is worse.  I have no reserves... no fight left.  Bedridden already, non functional.... do not really even care about living since I have not been ....

Had your dad been through withdrawal hell... cancer support groups will never understand my polydrug withdrawal...

has anyone here had cancer and withdrawal... I know everyone is too busy and dealing with their own withdrawals to help me.... most of the time, I feel isolated here.... I am and have been for so long with everyone in my life ....

Ah look at all the lonely people

Ah look at all the lonely people

Eleanor Rigby, picks up the rice

In the church where a wedding has been

Lives in a dream

Waits at the window, wearing the face

That she keeps in a jar by the door

Who is it for

All the lonely people

Where do they all come from?

All the lonely people

Where do they all belong?

Father McKenzie, writing the words

Of a sermon that no one will hear

No one comes near

Look at him working, darning his socks

In the night when there's nobody there

What does he care

All the lonely people

Where do they all come from?

All the lonely people

Where do they all belong?

Ah look at all the lonely people

Ah look

I am not like most people with cancer... no support group will be able to help me naviage....... surgery- anesthetic -- what could I have to go with my psych drug madness hell withdrawal... that will not cause me to really just have total internal combustion/// chemo=== what would that do.... to someone who has withdrawal that no dr will acknowledge and probably paws.... none of this will ever be able to figure out and NO ONE ELSE WILL HERE IN DALLAS NO DR, NO SUPPORT GROUP NO ONE ... all alone ... so doing nothing about cancer and just dying seems the only solution as everyone just keeps dealing with their own withdrawal issues here.

YH.  I can empathize with the feeling of loneliness during this period of turmoil and uncertainty. There have been similar times in my life.

I have found that sometimes when life looks and feels dark, that if you can possibly call on previously " untapped" reserves of strength as well as perhaps a " higher " power, then it can help see you through to the next moment or day. In either case sometimes there is a mind shift that can occur and it can take you to a place of more clarity, calm and acceptance.

In my own experience, it's at that point that some sort of action is called for.  If it were me, I would start by getting a second opinion on your diagnosis. You might not be open to that, and that's fine but maybe you could start researching , which would be my second step. These are only suggestions and what I would personally do in your situation. It's not intended to be medical advice.

I can't tell you how to navigate this . It's a personal decision.  All we can do is offer our support and encouragement.

Hi Yee,

I'm really sorry to hear about your diagnosis.  You are understandably in shock with this news.  This is a normal reaction for any person.

I totally agree with Shep that you should find a support group, although the support that you get here at SA will still be helpful to you.  These people will be able to provide the personal and specialised support which you need at this time which no online internet community is able to provide.

At the bottom of this web page you can type in your zip code to find one in your area:

Reach to Recovery

"Finding out that you have breast cancer can make you feel overwhelmed, vulnerable, and alone. Suddenly having to learn about complex medical treatments and trying to choose the best one can also be stressful during this time.

Our Reach To Recovery volunteers are specially trained to help people through their experience by offering a measure of comfort and an opportunity for emotional grounding and informed decision making. As breast cancer survivors, our volunteers give patients and family members an opportunity to express feelings, talk about fears and concerns, and ask questions of someone who has been there. Most importantly, Reach To Recovery volunteers offer understanding, support, and hope because they themselves have survived breast cancer and gone on to live productive lives. Program volunteers do not provide medical advice."

Thank you.

I am very sorry am overwhelmed to read  the articles last night and today..  Have tried but need helpful easy words... cannot read a lot like usually can.  cut sugar and caffeine for a long time and dairy almost all and trying to do gluten free....still eat carbs like sweet potatoes recently white potatoes but do not think they are good but confused it good or not

little brown rice and some potatoes and noodles rarely when we eat at senior meal place cheap for lunch... do not fix at home...think i need probiotic but unsure if do or which one ... too messed up right now to figure it out... want to do gaps/scd or paleo,.... stressed by them and implementing.  I do not know how to live... house is totally unclean, cluttered, unkept.  chaos everywhere....2 years

Currently take

Levothyroxin 50 mcg for thyroid from lithium

Lisinopril 20/25 for blood pressure

Amlopidine 5 mg for blood pressure since lisinopril not working enough and it still is not so increased yesterday ... bp 170+/80

Vitamin D3 5000 mg from Sams

Vitamin B12 500 mg whole foods

Magnesium 100 mg 2 X daily doctors best

TRILEPTAL ugh 450 mg and holding on tapering

Wished I could skype with my daughter.  Heck I wished I could talk to her on phone....even just an email or text one sentence few words even just 1 word hello... to have a little contact.  I have read about estrangement and believe I will never see or hear from her again.

http://wildtruth.net/about/

I often try to think about what I am thankful for.to distract.. my faith, my husband, my house, that we have a car, food, money in bank..... trying to focus on that again today.  Have no joy... sadness and anxiety and depression about everything in past present and future.  Trying to deep breathe.  Tired of all of this.  I am sorry for negativity.  wished I could go to counselor today that started last week.... think i need it 24/7.

What type of B12 are you taking?     I mean the CHEMICAL name.  Never, ever give up.       It always gets better, believe it, in your heart, it does.           Please ask your doctor for MTHFR testing, and homocysteine, and MMA levels.

It is worth investigating.................

Please remember there are so much they can do regarding breast cancer and you can fight this, you have fought W/d so you are strong . Remember I wil be your friend and can and will listen to your fears so you are not alone there is always someone there. Read psalm 139 . Father GOD I ask that YOU let my friend know YOU are close to her give her calm and strenght to go throught this battle knowing that she is never truelly alone AMEN

Hello yehaw,

1. Are you having Chemo or radiation, or scheduled to start it?  Are you receiving any other in hospital treatment, if so, what kind of meds ae involved?

2. So as of my count, you are taking 7 medications at home- any others you are taking "as needed", or forgot out on accident?

I am pleased your surgery was successful and that your pain is under control.  I can assume after 3 weeks that you will have to taper.  3 weeks is a long time, and without knowing if you are on any other treatments with meds yet, I cannot yet do a drug interaction report. The reason this matters is that some medications "potentiate the effects" of other medications.  What that means is that some meds make other meds act more strongly in the body, so they could possibly make a difference with tapering if that is indeed the case.

Thanks!

Skeeter

Current meds: Lexapro 20mg, Valium 6.25mg
Current status: September 2018 forced to go down to 10mg of Valium/Diazepam from around 15mg, with the plan to have me totally of in 2 more months. I was not given a chance to give input at tapering at this speed, please go much, much slower. Luckily I found a new doctor, but was thrown off course by my rapid taper, as of 2/19 am down to 6.25mg, and am stable. Will update with dates of taper ASAP.

Interactions between your selected drugs

Major tramadol mirtazapine

Applies to: tramadol, mirtazapine

Talk to your doctor before using traMADol together with mirtazapine. Combining these medications can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Severe cases may result in coma and even death. You should contact your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms while taking the medications. Using traMADol with mirtazapine may also increase the risk of seizures not related to the serotonin syndrome. The interaction may be more likely if you are elderly, undergoing alcohol or drug withdrawal, have a history of seizures, or have a condition affecting the central nervous system such as a brain tumor or head trauma. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Major tramadol suvorexant

Applies to: tramadol, Belsomra (suvorexant)

Consumer information for this interaction is not currently available.

GENERALLY AVOID: Concomitant use of opioids with benzodiazepines or other central nervous system (CNS) depressants such as alcohol may result in profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, and death. The risk of hypotension may also be increased with some CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines, phenothiazines).

MANAGEMENT: The use of opioids in conjunction with benzodiazepines or other CNS depressants should generally be avoided unless alternative treatment options are inadequate. If coadministration is necessary, the dosage and duration of each drug should be limited to the minimum required to achieve desired clinical effect. Patients should be monitored closely for signs and symptoms of respiratory depression and sedation, and advised to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until they know how these medications affect them. Cough medications containing opioids (e.g., codeine, hydrocodone) should not be prescribed to patients using benzodiazepines or other CNS depressants including alcohol.

Interactions between your selected drugs and food

Moderate levothyroxine food

Applies to: levothyroxine

The timing of meals relative to your levothyroxine dose can affect absorption of the medication. Therefore, levothyroxine should be taken on a consistent schedule with regard to time of day and relation to meals to avoid large fluctuations in blood levels, which may alter its effects. In addition, absorption of levothyroxine may be decreased by foods such as soybean flour, cotton seed meal, walnuts, dietary fiber, calcium, and calcium fortified juices. These foods should be avoided within several hours of dosing if possible. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor. When levothyroxine is given during continuous enteral nutrition (tube feedings) for more than 7 days, the tube feeding should be interrupted for at least one hour before and one hour after the dose of levothyroxine. You may need more frequent blood tests to monitor levothyroxine levels.

Moderate mirtazapine food

Applies to: mirtazapine

Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of mirtazapine such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with mirtazapine. Do not use more than the recommended dose of mirtazapine, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.

Moderate metoprolol food

Applies to: metoprolol

Food can enhance the levels of metoprolol in your body. You should take metoprolol at the same time each day, preferably with or immediately following meals. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Avoid drinking alcohol, which could increase drowsiness and dizziness while you are taking metoprolol. Metoprolol is only part of a complete program of treatment that also includes diet, exercise, and weight control. Follow your diet, medication, and exercise routines very closely.

Moderate suvorexant food

Applies to: Belsomra (suvorexant)

Food can delay the absorption of suvorexant, which may increase the amount of time it takes for the medication to work. For faster sleep onset, do not take suvorexant with or soon after a meal. Suvorexant should also not be taken with grapefruit juice, as it may significantly increase the levels of medication in the blood. This can increase the risk of side effects including excessive drowsiness, motor impairment, amnesia, anxiety, hallucinations, and breathing difficulties (especially if you have a respiratory disorder such as asthma or obstructive sleep apnea). Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. You should avoid the use of alcohol while being treated with suvorexant. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you, and do not exceed the dosage or frequency of use prescribed by your doctor. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Moderate baclofen food

Applies to: baclofen

Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of baclofen such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with baclofen. Do not use more than the recommended dose of baclofen, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.

Moderate lisinopril food

Applies to: lisinopril

It is recommended that if you are taking lisinopril you should be advised to avoid moderately high or high potassium dietary intake. This can cause high levels of potassium in your blood. Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking lisinopril, unless your doctor has told you to.

Moderate tramadol food

Applies to: tramadol

Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of traMADol such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with traMADol. Do not use more than the recommended dose of traMADol, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.

Therapeutic duplication warnings

Therapeutic duplication is the use of more than one medicine from the same drug category or therapeutic class to treat the same condition. This can be intentional in cases where drugs with similar actions are used together for demonstrated therapeutic benefit. It can also be unintentional in cases where a patient has been treated by more than one doctor, or had prescriptions filled at more than one pharmacy, and can have potentially adverse consequences.

Duplication Antihypertensives

Therapeutic duplication

The recommended maximum number of medicines in the 'antihypertensives' category to be taken concurrently is usually two. Your list includes three medicines belonging to the 'antihypertensives' category:

  • amlodipine
  • lisinopril
  • metoprolol

Note: The benefits of taking this combination of medicines may outweigh any risks associated with therapeutic duplication. This information does not take the place of talking to your doctor. Always check with your healthcare provider to determine if any adjustments to your medications are needed.

I am A PSYCHOLOGICAL MESS. depressed but mirtazapine is not helping but did help insomnia but cannot stay on it and feel since have only been on 3 weeks need to do a fast taper. Tramadol for pain was 2 every 6 hours but trying to take only 1 to 2 at night BUT IT SEDATED WITH ALL OTHERS BUT THIS WAS ALSO TO BE TEMPORARY after mastectomy. BACLOFEN WAS STARTED ON 2/6/17 at 1 3 times a day increased to 2 4 times a day and replaced with Gabapentin because of side effects and then it too was stopped because of side effects back to Baclofen 1 or 2 at night. I cannot believe I willingly took these because a counselor said I needed medications for anxiery and Depression and still have them WITH MEDICATIONS SO I WANT OFF.

So basically my breast surgeon should not have prescribed Tramadol so I need to stop it because of major interaction. I guess I am lucky to be alive since when I got out of hospital was taking 2 every 6 hours.

I did not pick these meds. The doctors knew all I was taking. So first no more tramadol. How quickly can I cut mirtazapine since only on 3 weeks? It seems it needs to go first. Probably will never sleep again. Will only take 1/2 for a few days PLZ help me.

If you've been on Remeron only 3 weeks, that's borderline for risking withdrawal syndrome. It's up to you if you want to go off it quickly, we cannot predict what will happen. Often, people will get rebound insomnia when they go off Remeron.

Why are you taking 3 blood pressure drugs? You need to talk to your doctors about minimizing your drug burden. If you complain to them about pain and sleeplessness, you can be assured they will provide the only solutions they know about: more drugs.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.
