Need some advice. Was given 15 milligrams Zyprexa in the hospital for anxiety and depression. Been on 15 milligrams for one month. Stopped taking it because of restless legs and now my anxiety is back very high. Should I have tapered off after only being on 4 One month. Is this just my withdrawal or original anxiety returning. My doctor wasn't much help he basically just said that I could have anxiety again after stopping the medication but did not tell me that I needed to taper from it. Also taking Prozac for a past 5 weeks 20 milligrams a day. And two milligrams clonazepam.

that's a big jump from 15 mg to zero. It's usually safer to taper. I was on 10 mg of zyprexa in the hospital for 2 weeks then 3 more weeks when I got home and have been tapering down by 1.25 mg. my taper is quicker than the 10 per cent every month but I am finding it ok likely as I was on it at 10 md only about 5 weeks like you

Welcome, oz.

It's possible that your system became used to Zyprexa over a month, and that you are experiencing anxiety as a withdrawal symptom. How long have you been off Zyprexa?

It's also possible your symptoms are side effects of your other drugs. Do your symptoms follow any daily pattern?

What times of day do you take clonazepam and Prozac? Did you start them both at the same time?

Please keep daily notes on paper about your symptoms, when you take your drugs, and their dosages.

Thanks for your helpful replies. I take the Prozac usually at lunchtime. Started the Prozac same time as the Zyprexa. Was taking the cyprexx a at bedtime. Been on clonazepam for almost two years. Several months ago I started tapering down on a clonazepam. The dose I take doesn't even help with anxiety just keeps me from going through physical withdrawals. Today I actually took 3 milligrams and it didn't help with anxiety at all. I had been taking 3 milligrams of clonazepam for a couple months before I started to taper down.

My doctor also gave me a new prescription for vraylar a new antipsychotic. But after thinking about that I really don't want to take it and have to discuss other options with him.

If you are tapering clonaxepam the anxiety could also be withdrawals from that taper. It could be a bit of both, stopping zyprexa and benzo twowr. There's a benzo taper section on this forum and you might want to read that through if you haven't already to get info on tapering benzodiazepines

ozzyz -- Welcome to Surviving Antidepressants (SA)

Please post more about when and how you came off Zyprexa: what were the doses you took, when did you take them, etc.

Also, A request: Would you summarize your history in a signature -- drugs, doses, dates, and discontinuations & reinstatements, in the last 12-24 months particularly?

  • Any drugs prior to 24 months ago can just be listed with start and stop years.
  • Please use actual dates or approximate dates (mid-June, Late October) rather than relative time frames (last week, 3 months ago)
  • Spell out months, e.g. "October" or "Oct."; 9/1/2016 can be interpreted as Jan. 9, 2016 or Sept. 1, 2016.
  • Please leave out symptoms and diagnoses.
  • A list is easier to understand than one or multiple paragraphs.
  • You can find instructions in this topic: Please put your withdrawal history in signature
  • If you are using a phone or mobile device, you need to switch to the "full" or desktop version of the site. Instructions are in Post 9 and Post 10
I hope you'll find the information in the SA forums helpful for your situation. I'm sorry that you are in the position that you need the information, but am glad that you found us.

Ozzyz.

I've had restless legs on others, it's just a size effect of the drugs. Has it gotten any better since you've been off? I can't believe you didn't taper off of that amount!
