Hello Street,

Thanks for setting up an Intro thread.  I think you have made a good decision in up-dosing to 225mg trazodone.  You were only on the 200 for a couple of days, so you should settle into the 225 okay.  Itching and shaking are normal withdrawal symptoms, and they should ease over time.  For now it is mportant to stay on 225mg for at least a month.  This is to give your body and Central Nervous System time to adjust to the lowered dose.  If you need more time than this, that's okay.  It's important not to rush things.

Am I understanding correctly that you have now been on 225mg for 4 days?  This is a very minimal amount of time when waiting for stability.

It is always hard to know for certain what is the best way, however my instinct would be to stay on 225 for another week or so to give yourself a chance to stabilise.

Is this correct?

Previous 2 years - 250mg

Monday - 'stopped the cold-turkey', 'I had stopped for one day before I reinstated' (I'm not sure what you mean here.)

Tuesday - Thursday  200mg

Friday - Today  225mg

This won't really help you, but feel like I should share it for the record.

Dont get me wrong, I'm suffering too but from Risperdal

anyway, not too long ago I went to my doctor to complain about my experience & get answers, especially for my insomnia

and guess what ?! He gave me a prescription for Trazadone, stating "it's harmless. It will help you sleep. There are no bad side effects. I give it to nearly 80% of my patients. No one has ever complained"

well I took his sh*tty advice & picked up the Trazadone, BUT decided to not take it whatsoever !!! Ever since my Risperdal & Abilify experience I trust no prescribed meds at all anymore, and knew Trazadone would probably end up just as bad. I was scared of its dependency.

to this day, I have a little bag with Trazadone pills just sitting there. **** that. Lol. Sorry for the rant but it was related

Risperidone - started at 10mg

Decreased to 1mg within the month

Abilify - started at 10mg

Decreased to 1mg

[Oct - Nov 2016]

Continued for approx. 2 - 3 weeks upon psych ward release

Invega injection one time

Hi street,

I compliment you on your desire to get this correct...

And well done also on finding sa.....quite an accomplishment in the difficult environment of doctor cluelessness and doctor silence regarding truth.

Basically to find the next dose using a 10% reduction simply multiply your current dose by 0.9. And every dose thereafter is found using 0.9 as a multiplier on the previous months dose.

Also would you be so kind to put specific dates in your drug sig. 'Last monday' could be last month last year anything . This will stop confusion going forward for others who come to read your drug sig.

There are links here to taper schedules ill see if I can find one and post it for you....

Well you could simply put the values into the taper schedule calculator from cc ( hey cc you sure are a speedy cat, nice taper schedule by the way ..I assume that's the cc version...well done).

Else it goes like this :

current dose 225.

Next dose is 0.9 times 225 =202.5

Then 28 days later new dose is 0.9 times 202.5 =182.25

Then 28 days later new dose is 0.9 times 185.25 = 164.03

etc

etc.

Some people are using a scale to do this and some are taking it in liquid.

street129 many people are getting a compound pharmacy to make up the exact dosage for them. Is this something you might be interested in. I don't know if this is something you can enquire about with your pharmacist.

The time on each dose (hold 'interval') is usually spoken of in terms of weeks that's why its 28 days (4 weeks)  however you can choose whatever time frame you would like. The rec is holds of  4 weeks  its also easy to note the calendar if one operates in weeks I would think. Do have a read of the tapering link posted above by KB. You must read this.

If you don't get a pharmacy to provide the exact dose required then you would be best to invest in a scale as you will need to make exact dosages else it will be hard when all you have is  50's  and a 100's  and you got to make 185mg say.

Weighing your tablets with a digital scale will enable accurate dosage.

You could always investigate obtaining  liquid.

Unfortunately to get ourselves out of this drug addiction by stealth we have all had to step up and take full control of our situation. That means satisfying ourselves of the tapering process and not blindly trusting a doctor and his verbal pharma propaganda.  If you think its too much to calc your dosage changes then don't take this personally but you should go with a compounding pharmacist.

What do you think about the compounding pharmacy idea.

If you are unable to calc progressive iterations using 0.9 as a multiplier then maybe  a compound pharmacy may be the best option.

If you still want to go with the weigh your own approach then the good folk here will walk you through it. Dont panic. It might be a surprise to you but this really is a friendly place with many people on standby to support you.

When you first started posting you were not typing in capitals.  You have only just started typing in capitals.  You did not make us aware that you have eye problems.  You response to my request about not typing in capitals is extremely rude.

As I have already explained to you by Private Message the moderators are all volunteers, we don't get paid.  We are doing this because we want to help people.  If you would like us to continue assisting you, please change your attitude and be more polite.

"everyone here on this board is not their best, but why have a board is you cannot get direct answers from anyone.  to asked a question its seem like its someone already post that question. why is this board running. can anyone tell me. if they can "

You have posted the above whilst I have been typing.

everyone here on this board is not their best     The members, including the moderators, are experiencing their own withdrawal difficulties

to asked a question its seem like its someone already post that question     We have many members who need assistance and when the information is already available we refer the members to that information so that we don't waste time repeating what is already available.

why is this board running. can anyone tell me     This site was created by Altostrata after experiencing her own withdrawal issues.  This site has been running since 2012 and has been working well during this time.  There are guidelines that members are expected to follow.  The reason this site exists is because most of the medical profession do not recognise or understand that psychiatric drugs need to be tapered slowly.  Generally if a medical professional does recommend tapering it is very often too fast and the members who join here can get the information they need to taper safely and comfortably.

When members first arrive at SA they are usually here because they suffering.  I had been experiencing very bad brain fog for 3 weeks when I started searching and found this site.  It can also be very overwhelming trying to read and understand the information as well as trying to work out what we should do.

Here are links to discussions on talking with the medical profession.  Instead of telling their doctor that they want to get off their drug they have said that they want to be on the lowest possible dose.  Being assertive without making out that we know better than the medical professional can make a big difference to whether they will be supportive of what we want to do.

How do you talk to a doctor about tapering and withdrawal?

What should I expect from my doctor about withdrawal symptoms?
