Hey D -

I think you're coming along nicely.  You've calmed down, accepted a plan, and I hope you won't be changing anything other than supplements before Christmas.  The silly season has a way of knocking us about, and the New Year is a great time to start a new taper.

I might agree with Alto - it may be that the Geodon is a good place to start, but that's months away yet.  Keep track of your symptom patterns and any changes in them as you settle down - these will be key in helping us figure out which drug is causing you the most strife.  It may be that the Saphris is where you want to start.  But we need to get you settled and grasp your symptom patterns!

We'll see how you feel about your afternoon anxiety in a month or two - it may be that you don't need to split the klonopin.  But if you are having breakthrough anxiety in the afternoon - and your klonopin is in the morning - it is not likely to be the klonopin at fault.  If in 1-2 months, this is still a consistent symptom pattern, Alto may have a point about the Geodon, or maybe the breakthrough anxiety is from Saphris.  In a couple months time we'll better know how much is drug effects, and how much is withdrawal effects.

Klonopin (I am not a benzo expert, but I looked up the half life) has a longer half life, and can cover a 24 hour period for most people .  You've been on it the longest, however, so breakthrough symptoms, tachyphylaxis (or "poop out") aren't unlikely.  But that your anxiety is in the afternoon (while the klonopin should still be strong in your system) points to something else.

I think what is making me angry is that your doctor gave you all this crap for depression and recovery, when really, you were suffering from klonopin side effects (and then Saphris side effects)  Egads, who thinks that's a good idea?  I'm sorry this has happened to you - but I'm glad that you are hearing us, and that you are sticking to the plan!

If you want to study up on "how to taper Geodon" you can read here (it's going to be a little more challenging than just splitting the klonopin)

Tips for Tapering off Geodon - Ziprasodone - Zeldox

You will want to learn about liquid tapers:

You've got months to study these and get ready - I envy you this!  Not everyone here has the chance to get their ducks in a row before tapering!

That's an interesting proposition!

Let's keep watching your symptoms.  I don't think we can drop the Vyvanse until we get more of your "brakes" down, but let's keep that in mind!

It makes sense, you take the Vyvanse to survive all those brakes.  Then, when it wears off - perhaps you panic a little bit as the brakes take over?  It is an interesting theory.

But we've got to get rid of some of those brakes first.

in due time!  Let's keep watching symptoms and wait for your withdrawals to settle.

Another thing for you to consider, is that withdrawal happens in Windows and Waves.  You may have a period of feeling better, when out of the blue (or after a stressor - even the tiniest stressor can set off a wave) symptoms will overwhelm you again.

The symptoms are frequently changing, as different systems affected by the drugs heal.  Bubble frequently describes it as rebuilding the World Trade Towers while people are still using the building - electricity will be out, or elevators on the fritz, while repairs are taking place.  Here is a list of most common symptoms, so that you don't need to get excited if your symptom pattern changes completely, as it is likely to do:

Dr. Joseph Glenmullen's Most Common symptoms of Withdrawal

In my experience from listening to people here at SA, there is often a major symptom which is consistent throughout withdrawal, but there may be a stackload of other symptoms that come and go as your body rebalances the damages caused by the drugs.  I'm not saying this to frighten you, I believe that forewarned is forearmed.  I wish someone had told me about withdrawal symptoms about 25 years ago (and maybe I would never have been "diagnosed").

Our bodies are amazing things.  The process of homeostasis is a miracle.  It's also exactly what the drugs mess with, and why rebalancing after the drugs takes so much time.  But it does get better, and our bodies are self regulating, and will balance again.  You are young, so have the possibility of getting out from under this with little harm.

I guess it's nighttime there - just a sliver of moon - so tomorrow - I hope you see the sun!

"Easy, easy - just go easy and you'll finish." - Hawaiian Kapuna

Holding is hard work, holding is a blessing. Give your brain time to heal before you try again.

My suggestions are not medical advice, you are in charge of your own medical choices.

A lifetime of being prescribed antidepressants that caused problems (30 years in total). At age 35 flipped to "bipolar," but was not diagnosed for 5 years. Started my journey in Midwest United States. Crossed the Pacific for love and hope; currently living in Australia.   CT Seroquel 25 mg some time in 2013.   Tapered Reboxetine 4 mg Oct 2013 to Sept 2014 = GONE (3 years on Reboxetine).     Tapered Lithium 900 to 475 MG (alternating with the SNRI) Jan 2014 - Nov 2014, tapered Lithium 475 mg Jan 2015 -  Feb 2016 = GONE (10 years  on Lithium).  Many mistakes in dry cutting dosages were made.

Whenever you want to know about something google surviving antidepressants and that topic. (DP/DR)

Along with many others these are symptoms of a destabilized central nervous system and what helps is patient stability over time, slowing things down, treating yourself gently and compassionately, reducing stress and all the things to that effect. It just means our brain is not happy with what we are putting it through, is overwhelmed and is dissociating to protect itself from too much pressure and stimuli we are subjecting it too. Meditation, breathing exercises, calming and grounding exercises, yoga... it all helps.

Current: 9/2022 Xanax 0.08, Lexapro 2

Hi everyone.

I am reading and getting much out of everyone's writing. I wish I could write more. It just seems like such a struggle right now. Some days are ok, some are hard. I know that is how it is. I try to "change the channel" and it works...but when I am feeling one of my many (i guess) neuro emotions I feel hopeless, like I know I have so far to go and it seems impossible. I know people here have done it and are doing it. I am holding and just starting with supplements. I cannot think about how long it will take me to get as free as I can because it is too much. So just like getting sober, I try to do it one day at a time. Not to get disappointed when I wake up with panic. Knowing it will pass. Try to reach out and say hi, and maybe someday be able to offer some experience, strength and hope. I don't know what "normal" is. I just know I want to feel better and more present and less drugged.

Thanks for reading

xoxo

Our SA article has a bunch of stories by members and a few suggestions that might help.

There's something to be learned, even from a state of DP or DR.  They often come hand in hand - I call them Tweedle DP and Tweedle DR, because for me, it helps to laugh at symptoms - to make fun of them.   I imagine them just like Lewis Carroll drew them, with their propeller hats, one on each shoulder, talking nonsense.

I looked up Ultrainflammex.  While Metagenics is a reputable brand, this product looks like what I call a "shotgun compound."  Like a shotgun, they put a spray of everything in the mix, in the hopes that something will hit a target and help.  You might drop this one, as there are some potential excitatory or contradictory - even contraindicated ingredients.  For example, L-Tyrosine should not be used in anyone with any heart issues, and L-Tryptophan should not be used by anyone in withdrawal.  It mixes calcium with iron (they bind together and neutralize each other).  The amino acids in here are in huge amounts and might contradict each other (for example Tyrosine and Theanine might be better taken seperately) - it would be better to get your aminos from a simple food such as beef or chicken bone broth, or barley water or pea protein (if you are vegan).

Here's my Barley Water recipe.  I developed it as a tonic for my kidneys, but it is rich in aminos - in healthier, food-based amounts (not drug like amounts, as your supplement is):

Something just happened and I lost part of my post.

The advantage of bone broth is that it soothes inflammation, and heals the digestive tract.

I agree with Alto that magnesium is better taken throughout the day, but you have some contraindications (like iron, calcium and gabapentin).  I seem to recall that Alto's favourite way to take magnesium is in a magnesium drink - dissolve a capsule in a drink, and sip it throughout the day.  In your case, you could start sipping at 1 pm, and keep sipping for the rest of the day.

1500 mg magnesium seems a little high, and might be causing a paradox.  While there's no one-size-fits all dose, many of us do well around 600 mg magnesium.

Something happened to this post, and it doesn't look like it did a minute ago - so I'm hoping that I remembered all that I lost, I'll go ahead and send this to you.

I hope you see the sun today!

Hey D! Hello!

Our SA article has a bunch of stories by members and a few suggestions that might help.

Derealization and Depersonalization    (Oh, i see that Bubble posted this already, thanks Bubble!) Very helpful

The best suggestion I've ever heard for dealing with it is Shep's:  be curious.  If you can turn your fear or judgement into curiousity, you will survive just fine - you might even thrive and learn something! I have been trying this. It makes me feel stronger and not so out of control.

Here's a few other helpful articles about TweedleDP and TweedleDR:  thank you!

Tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin neurotransmitters.  It hits on the same receptors as an SSRI, and can be very disruptive to withdrawal.

It's a little ironic that it (and 5HtP and St. John's Wort) are the among first supplements that a naturopath or ND reaches for when someone is in withdrawal.  I see it a lot.  The other 2 contraindicated things that naturopaths and ND's do a lot  is big multivitamin compounds, and detoxing.

Glad to see that you are doing better DMV!

Origin of Panic Attack and Anxiety Disorder: Overdose of Hallucinogenic HOT-7.

2013-09 20mg escitalopram. In the 4 first months 0.5-1mg/day Alprazolam for sleep & difficult situations.

Tapered the first time from 20mg to 0mg in 17 months or so. Withdrawal 6-8 weeks after last dose. Didn't taper enough to low enough doses (+-1mg).

2015-01-02 Back on 10mg after one week of delayed withdrawal. Stable in 8 days.

Second time tapered 2 years from 10mg to 1.6mg. Stable for half a year in range 2.5mg-1.6mg.

2017-07-28 Measurement errors: went for 1-2 weeks on 2mg. Restlessness and anxiety. Tried back to go back to 1.7mg for 5 days. Anxiety stayed.

2017-08-03 - 2017-08-20 Switched to liquid Lexapro 20mg/ml (1 drop is 1mg). Updosed to 2mg hoping to stabilize. Horrible Panic and Anxiety. Hold for 17 days hoping to stabilize. Didn't work enough for me at the time.

2017-08-20 End of holiday approaching. No more time. Decision to up dose to 5mg escitalopram. Back to the pills. Tapering alprazolam.

A lot of side effects: Akathisia, more anxiety, very troubling sleep, every thought and movement gave me panic attacks. Worst time of my life. I did learn coping skills in this period. A lot. Mastering meditation, mastering floating technique and more Claire Weekes stuff... Can handle extreme anxiety pretty decent now.

2017-09-30 Going down again because holding got worse almost every day. ADVICE TO OTHER ESCITALOPRAM PEOPLE, if updose doesn't work in two weeks, go down again!!! WD is not as brutal as adverse updose effects! After every taper (while tapering pretty manageable, after couple weeks holding, akathisia and extreme anxiety came back)

2018-01-29 Got to ZERO. A hard way down for sure. And now hoping for improvements along the way... Tapering melatonin gave me dystonic reactions however.
14 months after zero: Alternating akathisia, dystonic reactions and WD. Very unstable. No meds whatsoever. 31 months after zero: dystonia got worse, still very high anxiety, and many symptoms... no healing in sight. Adverse reaction destroyed me.

Hi all.

Kind of a hard day. I guess it is a wave. I feel like I have struggled with terror and panic for a lot of this day. It is hard to not panic into feeling I am not getting better even though I know not to go down this road.

Anyway, glad you are out there. I have to go try to teach a class soon.

Hey DMV, hope you're doing well today. Wanted to ask about what kind of yoga you practice? Was thinking about picking it back up, I used to do it quite a bit when I was younger.

Drug History:  Zoloft(sertraline) since 2008. Was up to 100mg/daily before CT in May 2017. Reinstated 3 weeks later at 50mg.

Current dose as of 5/11/2018  50mg Zoloft and 0mg Remeron

Remeron(mirtazapine) started June 2017. Accidental CT after 1 month. Reinstated 7.5mg on 9/26/17 after hospital stay.

Hello friends,

I guess I am pretty close to w/d normal. Days are mostly the same with slight variations on level of anxiety/panic. I am finding Tara Brach, Radical Acceptance very helpful. I am still transitioning over my supplements. I find myself wishing things could be different, which is why I am working on acceptance. Somedays it is hard to imagine teaching (putting self out there) or owning this yoga studio. I can't think too much about it or I get caught up in anxiety. I am just practicing feeling the fear and doing it anyway. I am on call for two births, will be glad when these babies come and hopefully not too close together. My husband has been a great support, and I am very grateful for that. My morning anxiety seems to be up a bit. Wondering if that might be due to any supplement changes or just normall variations...

Hope you are all well!

Please consider stopping the Ultrainflammex.  It could be contributing to your anxiety.  It is a mish-mash of mixed ingredients, some of which are hazardous in withdrawal (like Tryptophan).

If I'm wrong, and dropping it does nothing, then I'm wrong and nothing lost.  If I'm right, and you feel better upon dropping it - isn't that worth a try?

If you want to work on your gut, there are single ingredients or even foods which can help, like Turmeric, Bone Broth, even aloe has helped some people.  A complex compound like this  you don't know what it is doing to you.
