Kristine,

I'm glad some symptoms have improved!  I hope your day gets better.  The cog fog makes everything more difficult.  Keep that headache in check as best you can.  -- Rosetta

Hi Kristine!  I'm with you... sick and tired of being sick and tired. But we CAN do this. It's just a matter of time and patience... the latter I have very little of lately. Cog fog is still high, which is why I'm not online much. Funny, I can watch TV, but the computer irks the daylights out of me.  HUGS hun.

My memory is a sieve.  What I can remember:

2006- Effexor started at 75mg upped to 300mg

somewhere after 2008- Switched to Cipralex started at 5mg upped to 20mg

2017- added Wellbutrin 150mg to Cipralex 20mg

occasional use of Ativan 0.5mg sublingual, usually given 7-10 tabs  -- (last used Nov 2017 ... previous? my mom's death probably? 2013)

Cold turkey Nov 13, 2017 (used Ativan once a day when it was unbearable until Rx finished)

24 Jan. 2018 - Reinstated Cipralex 5mg

31 Jan. 2018 - started Cetirizine Hydrochloride for severe allergies due to tattoo --- stopped 24 Feb. 2018

26 Feb. 2018 - Coversyl 4mg

Currently: 5mg Cipralex , 16mg Serc (for Meniere's), 4mg Coversyl (high blood pressure)

Supplements: 300mg Magnesium

Hey Jane :) indeed, sick and tired of being sick and tired.  And yes we CAN and WILL do this!!! I don't remember the last time i had a decent nights sleep and woke feeling "refreshed"...don't even remember what that feels like!  Cog fog :( I find everything takes so much thought and effort...eg I'm in the shower..my hair is wet..but I can't remember if I've shampooed it (happens all the time)...24, 12, 6, 4 months ago I would get so angry with myself because I couldn't multitask...now I'm just happy if I put some bread in the toaster and take the butter out of the fridge whilst it is toasting! This is my new definition of multitasking...and proud of it  I use the night + Dimmer function on my iPad because I can't look at a bright screen.  Not sure if you can do this on your computer?  However, this may not be the bit that irks you.  Big big hugs my friend. K

LOL I totally get the multitask thing.  I'll be doing something and need to go to a different room for something else and forget what I was doing in the first place. Forget if the phone rings and I was doing something, by the time I'm done with the call I'm off on another thing totally forgetting the pre-call item. I hope that makes sense, as I have a wicked migraine going on and can't think at all.

The brightness isn't an issue, it's words melding into one. My eyes cross and I just can't concentrate. I would love to be doing art right now, but my blasted eyes can't focus.... like now, it's as if I'm a robot running out of power... slowly the eyes start crossing, fading off into a distant blank stare. My husband says it's like I'm off in my own little world, frozen. It's weird.

Oh Jane, it makes perfect sense! We speak the same language. I'm praying that migraine is gone. I'm so sorry, migraines are so debilitating.  Along with everything else, how on on earth is one supposed to function?! I hope you have been able to rest.

Oh Hun, this is all so unfair.  I am familiar with all of these experiences you describe.  I would like to do some art as well but I can't focus and I have no imagination or creativity to create anything anyway.  I miss this. I feel like yet another big chunk of me has been cut away.  I think the "fading off into a distant blank stare" may be your mind/body's way of protecting you, preserving your energy...your natural inbuilt system telling you to "rest".  It is all very weird, all these symptoms and experiences. Biggest of hugs to you across the oceans. Much Love. K

Hey All,  The following is an update of why I am practically house bound.....

I don't leave the house unless I absolutely have to do so.  Some of you might know that my home is being renovated and my 90 year old mother in law is moving in with us.  We are currently house sitting.  The renovation is extensive which includes a new driveway to creat level access to the house and wide doorways for wheelchair access and a disabled friendly bathroom (hand rails etc)...anyway my husband is sorting most of this out (bless him).  But of course I need to help in the small ways when I can. For example paint colours and tiles...this isn't great either because my creativity and imagination are all but gone.

Yesterday I had no choice but to go to a tile shop with my husband to choose a nonslip tile for the foyer.  The first challenge was getting to the destination. I still don't drive (various issues but I do not feel it is safe).  The noise of traffic is overwhelming for me.  Also I feel like cars, trucks are closer then they actually are.  My knuckles turn white. It is best if I close my eyes..focus on my breathing.  Then we arrive at the tile shop.  This shop was very noisy...I guess the multitude of tiles make the sound bounce off and vibrate..I felt like I was absorbing everything.  My husband and I made a fairly hasty decision about the tile choice.  I started to look at choices for the bathroom and kitchen but couldn't focus. Every sound was amplified, then the stores phone rang. I jumped out of my skin. Hyperflexia kicked in and the usual patter followed...electrical current surging through my whole body and brain, skin on fire, tremor but thankfully no muscle spasms.  My whole body was vibrating but I was moving in slow motion.  I said to my husband that I had to leave. We did and then the traffic problem again. It is even more difficult once my nervous system has been "charged"...spent the trip home focusing on my breathing, very difficult.

Once home, our beautiful dog was very excited and let out a high pitched bark (he's a big dog and this doesn't happen often)...anyway, My nervous system was recharged and retraumatised.  I immediately screamed, went rigid and the electrical charge was even more intense.  My skin was on fire. I was shaking violently with tears steaming down my face.  So, I went to my room, made is dark, put the fan on and focused on my breathing.  It took hours to calm my self. Then as my muscles started to relax I am left feeling paralysed...like my muscles are liquified and I can't move.  I need another word for fatigue and exhaustion because it is beyond that.

Today i I have to vote in the state election.  I have to leave the house. I'm going to leave it until the last moment (6pm) in the hope that it will be less busy 😳 God help me.

I’m pleased that some of your symptoms have improved since the big cut. I pray it continues to improve.

I used to think ( on bad days) that if the anxiety and depression got too much I would take myself off to the local hospital so that they could put me in the psychiatric care unit. As if it were some kind of hotel 🤪 Then I started reading stories here of people being admitted and multi drugged. I quickly realised that the care centre was actually a dangerous place to go! It was reaffirmed when a dear friend entered there and found herself multi drugged ove a two week period. She left and threw herself on the train track 😢😢😢 Her mother thinks it was the depression but I know better. Thank God we ALL know better now ❤️

Oh my goodness! You are really strong. You should’ve sent in your vote. Your husband sounds amazing too. Where do you get the inner strength? Inspirational!

Kristine!! You do not have to vote in the state election!! For heavens sake!!  If I were there I'd take your husband's keys away and your son's, too, and only give them back when they promised to leave you at home!  Your state will get along just fine without you.

Thank you D,  you are so kind...as you know I don't feel strong but I guess I am at peace with this process. I have accepted the suffering as part of this path.  I can't waste my energy fighting it.

Thank you D,  you are so kind...as you know I don't feel strong but I guess I am at peace with this process. I have accepted the suffering as part of this path.  I can't waste my energy fighting it.

It wasn't my intention to scare anyone...I just tend to dig for answers when I'm faced with inadequate answers that don't make sense. Love K xo

This whole site has scared me off antidepressants. Not just you.  Reading about everyone’s suffering is very frightening.

Kristine!! You do not have to vote in the state election!! For heavens sake!!  If I were there I'd take your husband's keys away and your son's, too, and only give them back when they promised to leave you at home!  Your state will get along just fine without you.

Hey Rosetta, I think the US and Australia may be a little different. In Australia it is a federal offence not to vote.  I will receive a fine.  I could fill in a mountain of paperwork to explain "why" I can't vote (and provide proof) but this will be just as stressful, if not more.  In hindsight I should have sent in a postal vote as D suggested.  But the election wasn't even on my radar. I'm just going to have to grit my teeth and get it over with. Might need to wear a mouth guard!  Love K xo

Oh my Kristine....your experience at the tile store sounded so difficult, truly awful, and I am so sorry you had such a rough time. But you got through it, my strong and courageous friend!

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg

Love K xo

"Different" is an understatement.  They do everything they can to stop most of us from voting here.  And for those of us who are deemed desirable voters it's as easy as pie!  It really shouldn't be an ordeal to avoid it if you are severely ill, however.

Wow! That is different!  There is much I don't understand about the US electoral system.  I only have to travel 200metres up the road, so not far to go thank goodness.  Then back to bed! Much Love K xo

Ah, 200 meters.  That's not bad.  Not a repeat of the tile shop.  Mine is close, too.  It's set up in people's garages and on their driveways in safe neighborhoods if there is plenty of parking on the street.  They volunteer their homes for it.  In more dangerous places it's set up in schools and other public buildings, libraries -- that sort of thing.  All the people working the polls are volunteers.  It's a logistical nightmare in the bad neighborhoods, but there's no incentive to change it.  Beyond that there are hundred of little things that make registering and voting difficult.  If it were an offense to not vote the courts would be clogged beyond belief with those cases.  I can't imagine being fined!! That would be seen as outrageously unfair here.  Many employers won't let their employees have time off to vote.  That's illegal, but it's very common, and it's rare that anything is done about it.  Now, here's the question: how is it that with these massive differences in our political systems the result is the same (BS) regarding doctors, hospitals and psych drugs??

Hummm, that's a big question.  It is defiantly a multilayered issue.  However, I think there is one major issue. Perhaps one that is shoved under the rug. What I am going to say is not politically correct, but from my experience it is the truth.  People diagnosed with a "mental illness"  are viewed differently in society.  Depending on the mental illness the stigma is either more or less intense.  For example, depression has less stigma than schizophrenia.  Add on medication the stigma changes, add on hospitalisation and people become even more weary and judgmental....add on ECT..well, let's just say there are people is my life who have run for the hills.  These views and prejudice are held by many world wide.  We fear what we don't understand.  I guess my point is..our voices are not heard because we are not considered; by the majority of the population; as important or valuable members of society.  So if the majority of the population doesn't want to listen...how is this situation going to change when there is money to made from the vulnerable?  This is just my opinion.  Not exactly a positive opinion.

Very good point.  Oh, it's most assuredly true that the mentally ill are seen as "less than." It's also true that these campaigns to "destigmatize" mental illness came about ONLY because there is money to be made from getting more people hooked on psych drugs.

Im in a tough spot because I am tapering the dexamphetamine much faster than recommended...and then there's the big drop in Prozac.  I feel I am making the right decisions for my circumstances.  Big improvements but also dealing with significant w/d.  I don't feel Prozac has caused significant w/d issues...but the dexamphetamine is another story.

Hi Kristine,

Glad you were able to choose the tile and cast your vote even though both were so difficult for you.  I don't know anything about dexamphetamine withdrawal, but I sure do wish you success with that.  Thank goodness we found this site for help.

Thank you RM,  choosing a colour scheme/tiles etc whilst in withdrawal is not exactly ideal  my husband seems to like my choices!  Uuummm hopefully my future "medication free" self, will approve of the choices. If not I'm sure she will understand!

Sorry to hear about this experience K ,I can so relate ,its awful .when it gets to the high level like you say it is  just stick the hands over the ears and under the duvet .I have heavy duty ear protection around my neck at all times in the house ready to put on  ,I'm terrified of the nutribullet my missus knows not to turn it on in the kitchen without warning .also the mornings they go straight on.

Hope it gets better for you .

can you look on websites for tiles and get delivered .

Take care .

Much Love. K

Hi Kristine. Yes by the end of the day the migraine was gone. I had a decent sleep last night. I like how you describe the fading out as a way of the body preserving energy. I was happy to read that many of your symptoms have subsided, even if only a bit. I hope that you were able to get out to vote. I know how hard it is for you to get out of the house. Sending you hugs.

Take care .

Hey Powerback,  Thank you for your kind words. I'm sorry you suffer from this as well.  It is horrific.  Mostly I can avoid these situations and I do have earplugs but they are not practical all the time.  Ahhh the NutriBullet, I have something similar! I'm glad your wife warns you! What frustrates me is I'm not suffering from agrophobia, I want to go out! Once I get home it will be a little easier. My home is in a very quiet area with many walking trails near my house...forest bathing is just around the corner! I do not need to get in the car. I am extremely fortunate.

I do most of my searching on the web.  I had to see this tile because of the "texture" element.  I had to feel it. I can't have my beautiful 90 year old mother- in-law slipping and ending up with a fractured hip!

Much Love. K xo

Hey Jane, That's good news about the migraine and a decent nights sleep! I did get to vote.  Some kind of nurturing force was at work because it was very quiet. I missed the rush and there was not one loud noise. Ahhhhh  Big Hugs. K xo

Hey Jane, That's good news about the migraine and a decent nights sleep! I did get to vote.  Some kind of nurturing force was at work because it was very quiet. I missed the rush and there was not one loud noise. Ahhhhh  Big Hugs. K xo

Maybe your guardian angel went ahead and cleared the way for you. Hugs.

Much Love. K xo

The missus sneezed last night beside me  and it was frightening ,I want to give that scared side of me a big hug and say it will be ok :).

I'm amazed when she uses the nutribullet ,she doesn't even flinch ,so jealous lol.my system was so wired up last week that I literally got scare of my shadow .I seen the funny side of it when I got home . I though it was someone jumping out ,but of course it was why shadow in front of me .

AH the mother-in-law's they are very precious .mine was out shovelling snow today while I watched on  with a chest infection :D. she has amazing energy .

Alcohol free since February 2015

1MG diazepam

4.5MG PROZAC.

I knew we were kindred spirits! I have gone through many stories of ‘famous’ suicides and come to the same conclusion. Multi drugging, playing around with multi medications, cold turkey switching of meds...all common denominators.

Every time I walk past Heath Ledgers memorial at my local park I am reminded of what these drugs do. Doctors hand them out like candy with no idea of how dangerous the interactions can be.

Lol! After I posted it I thought "oh,dear maybe that was a bad idea!"....but be are kindred spirits! Much Love K (having a very bad fatigue and muscle weakness day..so not writing much) xo
