Moderator Emeritus dalsaan Posted August 6, 2014 Author Moderator Emeritus Share Posted August 6, 2014 I agree Jemima, it is a good sign and has happened quite quickly. I guess if you can have a symptom come on quickly, it's possible to go quickly as well Please note - I am not a medical practitioner and I do not give medical advice. I offer an opinion based on my own experiences, reading and discussion with others. On Effexor for 2 months at the start of 2005. Had extreme insomnia as an adverse reaction. Changed to mirtazapine. Have been trying to get off since mid 2008 with numerous failures including CTs and slow (but not slow enough tapers)Have slow tapered at 10 per cent or less for years. I have liquid mirtazapine made at a compounding chemist. Was on 1.6 ml as at 19 March 2014. Dropped to 1.5 ml 7 June 2014. Dropped to 1.4 in about September. Dropped to 1.3 on 20 December 2014. Dropped to 1.2 in mid Jan 2015. Dropped to 1 ml in late Feb 2015. I think my old medication had run out of puff so I tried 1ml when I got the new stuff and it seems to be going ok. Sleep has been good over the last week (as of 13/3/15). Dropped to 1/2 ml 14/11/15 Fatigue still there as are memory and cognition problems. Sleep is patchy but liveable compared to what it has been in the past. Moderator Emeritus Rhiannon Posted August 7, 2014 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted August 7, 2014 Yay yay yay for new hobbies! It's such fun to get that zest back. I still have ups and downs as I'm tapering some other meds still at higher doses, but that sense of "yes I want to do that, I am interested in that, I want to reach out into the world and taste it!" has been coming back stronger and stronger ever since I got down below about 2 mg of Celexa. I really believe ADs take so much away from us. I am also finding that processing my abuse issues and dealing with my emotions (appropriate healthy emotions, not the neuro-emotion type) is easier and faster. The feelings have a sharper edge, pain is sharp and painful, but it passes faster and heals, rather than just staying sort of grumble grumble desperate hopeless stuck in that neuro-emotion kind of way. I wish more doctors would pay attention to peoples' actual experiences with these meds. They sap our humanity. That's no gift. Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten. Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010. Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea. mlrp
Hello, Dalsaan - Thank you so much for stopping by my thread. You are one of my inspirations! I had a question for you and researched your thread a bit and now have TWO questions. I'm intrigued by you saying that you recently woke up "fresh as a daisy" despite less-than-desired sleep. Can I take this to infer that your "coritsol" mornings have decreased somewhat as you have (carefully, slowly) been tapering Mirt? I know there are other factors that may have helped (sleep hypnosis, taurine) but do you feel you can make a reasonable connection between the taper and "better" mornings? As you might guess, I'm looking for any hopeful sign that my horrendous mornings will one day abate. Wellbutrin is also probably a factor for me, but I'd appreciate your perspective just the same. I'm going to look into Taurine - not familiar with it. I've just read in your thread about Mirt being only partially soluble in water. I'd been assuming that I could dissolve it as easily as I've been dissolving the Wellbutrin. I would really like to avoid asking my doc about liquid Mirt because I just don't want to draw attention to what I'm attempting (plus, I have a feeling my insurance wouldn't cover it). I will read the Tips on Tapering Mirt thread here, but wondered if you had any quick advice in this regard. Thanks so much - and wishing you better and better days! 1 04/2013 diagnoses: severe insomnia, major depressive disorder, anxiety disorder, agoraphobia. Moderator Emeritus dalsaan Posted August 14, 2014 Author Moderator Emeritus Share Posted August 14, 2014 Hi Mirp Yes my cortisol reactions have lessened as I have gone down. I don't get any hyper alerting or arousal. I still have difficulties with sleep generally but that includes going to sleep, staying asleep or waking early. It's not cortisol mornings as such. Re the liquid Mirt, to be honest I didn't give it much of a chance. I have a compliant dr so he did what I asked. chicken
I'm sorry to hear this Dalsaan. The loss of animals is almost as painful as losing a person. My mom has a dog that is so attached to her that when she left for a few days, he almost has a nervous breakdown. She rescued him from a shelter. I think he had been abused and trusts no one but her. He will not let me or anyone touch him but my mom. While mom was away the thought came into my mind to break of a piece of benzo and give it to him. NO I would never do that! It was just a crazy thought, LOL! But, while I was away in the hospital he did eat a remeron tablet that had fallen onto the floor. I asked the doc would it hurt him. He said that it would probable make him sleep for a long time. Anyway, I hope you can find a new pet soon as they are great comforts through tough times. What breed was your dog? We have a miniature Rat Terrier and Fiest/Chihuahua mix. Prozac 1999-2009 quit semi cold turkey. 2012 Placed on Seroquel 25 mg, Tranxene (Clorezepate) 3.75 mg 3x a day, Remeron 30 mg for anxiety/akathesia. Weaned off Seroquel and Tranxene .to Remeron 15 Mg. In May 2014 tried quitting Remeron at its lowest dose. Had severe withdrawals.Reinstated Remeron at 30 mg by doctor. August 5 2014 entered hospital. Doctor pulled the Remeron and bridged it to Pamelor (Nortriptyline) 40mg and Zyprexa 2.5mg.After removing the Remeron all my bad symptoms went away and I am stable. 9/11/14 - 7.5 mg tranxene, 40mg Pamelor, Zyprexa 2.5mg 12/29/14 - 20mg Pamelor, 1/6/15, 7/31/15 3.5mg, 8/10/15 3.2 mg, 9/15/15 2.2mg, 10/15/15 1.8mg (Feb 2016 - 1.4mg Pamelor only - OFF OF TRANXENE AND ZYPREXA SINCE DEC 2014 BENZO FREE Since 2014. Sleep has been good over the last week (as of 13/3/15). Dropped to 1/2 ml 14/11/15 Fatigue still there as are memory and cognition problems. Moderator Emeritus Petunia Posted September 2, 2014 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted September 2, 2014 I'm sorry for the loss of your fur baby Dalsaan, she looked a lot like a dog I used to have. Losing a cherished pet can leave an almost unbearable emptiness, I've been through it with several cats and dogs. Thinking about you. I'm not a doctor. My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one. My Introduction Thread Full Drug and Withdrawal History Brief Summary Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects 2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010 Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal) May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins. Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens. Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days. April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close. VIDEO: Where did the chemical imbalance theory come from? Moderator Emeritus Rhiannon Posted September 2, 2014 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted September 2, 2014 Oh, I'm so sorry Dalsaan. Hugs to you, and strength in this difficult time. Glad that you are feeling better now and able to love your new addition, it is amazing how much love a heart can hold, nothing will replace your lost pet but your heart has enough love for another one as well and I'm so glad that you found one. Moderator Emeritus Petunia Posted September 29, 2014 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted September 29, 2014 I never tapered properly, so I don't know what its like, but I can imagine it takes some courage to make those cuts when you know there's a possibility you're going to feel bad for a while. I hope you are feeling better again soon. Moderator Emeritus dalsaan Posted September 29, 2014 Author Moderator Emeritus Share Posted September 29, 2014 Thanks Petu, This one has hit harder than ever before. Unfortunately we have had visitors over the past 3 days which I couldn't cancel Had to put on a happy face. Was totally exhausting at the level of my soul. Just need to be patient, that's what I would tell anyone else here. Take care and thanks for dropping by to offer encouragement D 1 Please note - I am not a medical practitioner and I do not give medical advice. Moderator Emeritus Rhiannon Posted September 29, 2014 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted September 29, 2014 Dal-- Sorry you have the cruddies. It will pass, as you know. And so awesome that you're doing the standup! Can you put a video up somewhere we can see it? Be sure and look at your cuts at this low dose. I've noticed for me that at low doses I tend to underestimate the percentage of cut I'm making. It really goes up fast at lower doses. For example, in your case, the cut from 1.6 mL to 1.5 mL was 6.25%, but the cut from 1.5 mL to 1.4 mL is 6.67%, and if you cut from 1.4 to 1.3 that will be over 7%. And as you can see from those charts in the Tapering section, at low doses each cut corresponds to a greater change in receptor occupancy than the cuts before. So you've got to keep an eye on it. It might be time soon to try a higher dilution so you can get smaller cut increments, like instead of 1.4 to 1.3 go from 1.4 to 1.35. Moderator Emeritus dalsaan Posted September 30, 2014 Author Moderator Emeritus Share Posted September 30, 2014 HI Rhi, Thanks for stopping by. I do feel a bit better today than I did yesterday. You are right about the percentages. Should I use a micropipette to get more micro doses? I am just using a normal syringe from the pharmacy at the moment. If you think the pipette is the go can you recommend a brand? D Please note - I am not a medical practitioner and I do not give medical advice. Moderator Emeritus dalsaan Posted October 15, 2014 Author Moderator Emeritus Share Posted October 15, 2014 Well that was a rough bit. Had some suicidal ideation and very emotionally unstable. Have stabilised now but need to work through a strategy from here. On a positive note. My sleep is consistently better than it has been for years. It's like I just turned a corner 1 Please note - I am not a medical practitioner and I do not give medical advice. Moderator Emeritus Jemima Posted October 15, 2014 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted October 15, 2014 So good to see, Dalsaan. In my recovery, I found that symptoms began to abate more quickly once I was able to get a sound night's sleep. It's still a long, bumpy road to the end and even after, but you're well on your way. Go, girl! Psychotropic drug history: Pristiq 50 mg. (mid-September 2010 through February 2011), Remeron (mid-September 2010 through January 2011), Lexapro 10 mg. (mid-February 2011 through mid-December 2011), Lorazepam (Ativan) 1 mg. as needed mid-September 2010 through early March 2012"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity." -Hanlon's RazorIntroduction: http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/1588-introducing-jemima/ Success Story: http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/6263-success-jemima-survives-lexapro-and-dr-dickhead-too/Please note that I am not a medical professional and my advice is based on personal experience, reading, and anecdotal information posted by other sufferers.
