you guys are just awesome ;)

I indeed have great memories.Feel very fatigued but I contribute it to jet lag rather than WD (although WD obviously exacerbates jet lag).

I can't stop saying how much your support meant in all this!

Lots of love,

Thank you so much dear Petu!

Sometimes I fear I'm harming myself by sticking with the agenda even when I'm not all there, or even significantly not there.like I'm running a marathon with a twisted ankle or some stretches even with a broken bone...

But having a structure, being with people, accomplishing something helps.

I found out that even through the thickest brain fog I can deliver at least an average output. And sometimes that fog and anxiety suppress my perfectionism, release my creativity, bring out spontaneity and I even end up with a better quality outcome.

Sometimes I just sit quitely and feel waves of anxiety and neuro emotions, appear very passive and slow but behind that numbness I reach conclusions that surprise those that don't know me and just prove the point for colleagues who got used to my functioning.

It's very complex how I manage, indeed...

It's happening again....

Days of unwellness, anxiety mounting, poor quality sleep-shallow,frequent wakening and then waking up anxious and painfully depressed at 5 am sharp.

Resisting the urge to take additional xanax in an attemp to produce calmness.OMG, I almost crave that xanax-induced calmness ;( it's a scarry realisation but my next thought is that a big improvement is becoming aware of this.

I did sucumb though,2 nights ago before a job interview.and it made no difference!instead of scaring me,this experiment reassured me that I was on the right track being a part of this community.

It means that my attitude to meds is changing.of course,in good times I would always look for a way off but in bad times,i believed they were the only way out. Now i don't.I see other opportunities!

instead of taking Xanax, I know come here and ask what I can do to make my sleeping better and how to deal with anxiety especially since i'm scared out of my witts that it is mounting to culminate in a debilitating panic attack accompanied by derealisation.

Also,I've been physically unwell for a week.not only jet lag but nausea and diarrhea (never know how to spell this word...)plus for over 2 weeks I've had a persisent very uncomfortable pain very low in the abdomen, like mildly burning sensation, hard to describe.

So i'm thinking of paying a visit to my GP and not going to work because these 3 days have been dreadful.just enduring high level physical and mental discomfort...

There is of course a very low level of energy. not so much lack of motivation but no energy to do things:my suitcase had been lying in the middle of the room and I was looking at it with sadness unable to finish sorting it out and moving it away.it was indeed such a sense of achievement when I finally managed to do it yesterday!

I think staying at home, visiting my sympathetic GP and nursing my physical unwellness would help me. i put myself through so much lately that I should allow myself 2 days of lie in and pamper...

Plus there is maybe a physical component of that abdominal pain that I'm failing to address.

Your inputs always make me feel so supported and show I'm on a new path...

Lots of love,

aching bubble

Hi Bubble,

I'm sorry you have been feeling unwell.  That's great you managed to resist taking extra Xanax, congratulations on remaining strong about that.

If I were you, I would get the abdominal pain checked out by your GP, seeing as its lasted for over 2 weeks.  If its possible for you to take some time off work to rest and recover, then that sounds like a very good idea.

I hope you feel better again soon.

Petu.

Dear Petu,

you are again here,so comforting, encouraging and picking the right points.

Allowing myself to take 2 days off work is helping with both my physical and emotional issues. i'm using this time to educate myself more from symptoms and self-care about things that help with anxiety and insomnia.

I will try out aspirin as Alto mentioned. There is a soluble one with vitamin C...

Also I've noticed there is a star next to my nick name as of recent! ;) soooo sweet! How did I earn it ;)

now I have more times to be there for others as you are here for me...

thank you dear Mamma!

It was a good decision to stop pushing myself today and apply much needed TLC...

Will visit my gyneacologist tomorrow morning about this 2 week pain very low in the abdomen.and then GP in the afternoon.

Reading a lot on the forum to benefit from the wealth of tips and experiences.Been reading one long thread that left me feeling very frustrated because the person kept asking for advice and then completely ignore it and the same pattern was repeated a painful number of time. A lot of us have these fixations and resistances and people here have so much patience...

That happens Bubble, sometimes people are so desperate to feel better that they try

everything, when that doesn't work they ask again, then go off to research somewhere else

and find something that sounds better, then come back when it doesn't work. It's all in

desperation. We all trusted our doctors and now have to trust someone else.

First we have to find out who. All we can do is keep repeating and hope that eventually

it will sink in that SA is the BEST place to be for AD withdrawal advice, but it must be

very frustrating for Alto after putting in all those years of research!

Dear all,

I hope you had as good Christmas holidays as possible for us with less  symptoms (which don't care whether it's holiday or not :(

It turned out I had a bladder infection (for 3 weeks) and was put on antibiotics.

I spent 4 days basically lying in bed. First two days were very welcome since I was actually recovering from the jet lag as well. But after those two days psychological issues started taking over and became more pronounced keeping me in bed.

My energy levels and motivation had been dropping so much that I could hardly force myself to leave the bed and do even the simplest things, contact people or anything. I just felt like I didn't want to (and couldn't do anything and engage with anyone).

It was definitely a new symptom in all these 3 months of reinstating. It started some 10 days ago and still continues. It was the worst on Christmas Eve when I was all alone and not able to move but feeling very irritable. I felt like I didn't even want to leave that hole but was just going on digging myself deeper. Didn't even seek advice on the forum :(

I spent Christmas with my sister and her family and felt a bit better although still extremely low energy. My boyfriend came the day after Christmas and he helped me a lot to become more active, engaged and far less isolated.

But I'm still struggling with the very low energy and lack of motivation. Can't remember when I last felt like this...

After reading something in one of the threads, I started thinking that these symptoms could be explained by a reaction on Xanax which is sometimes said to cause depression (if I understood what I read correctly).

I've been taking 2 mg of Xanax since 25 October (2 months on the same dose). I had a nasty episode 3 weeks ago when for 2 days I updosed for 0.5 mg but only for 2 days.

My worry is that I have never in my long 14  years of almost continuous Xanax taking been on such a high dose for such a long time. I've been going up and down in doses but my regular dose was 1 mg...

The strange pounding in my chest now reminded me of yet another symptom that is totally new to me. I didn't even know what it was! I think it's palpitations! Unexperienced so far.

So my thinking is I'd like to at least slightly by 5 % drop my Xanax dose (taking liquid suspension which I made with great ease now).

I'm not exactly stabilized but somehow feel Xanax is causing me palpitations and this awful lack of energy.

Do you think I might try to go down by 5 % on Xanax?

Thank you so much for your opinions if you find the time. Maybe I should post these in the benzo section which I will also but since it's so connected with ADs it's hard for me to decide where to post.

Wishing you the best for this festive season which always makes things even more difficult for me since I can participate in customary activities in a more or less limited way... (I suppose it's like this for most of u:(

best,

bubble

Maybe it's just another wave... But I sort of got used to the kind of waves I had for the first 2 months after RI: I would feel awful the whole day every day but short waves would come every day.

I had exchange of waves and windows in the same day. So I'm not used to being in the continuously bad state progressively deteriorating . Although I still do get small windows when I quickly manage to do something basic like fixing myself a meal, going to the store or even doing the dishes.

Something that definitely scares me most is PALPITATIONS! Never had them before and now my heart is jumping so strangely in my rib cage, especially in the evening. Uncomfortable and scary...

I sleep well, even during the day. Actually obligatory daytime sleep like hypersomnia (a lot better than insomnia!)

I know that a lot of people are unfortunately in a much worse state and I  keep telling myself that I'm actually lucky since my horror is so ''mild' but it's still hard struggling with that awfulness inside me day in, day out for many days...

I'm still thinking I should try reducing Xanax by 5 % to see if it helps at least with palpitations...

love to all,

Hi Bubble, sorry you are still feeling bad. I'm not sure changing your dose is the best thing right now,

it could make things worse. We always think that we have to do something but usually the best thing

is to leave well alone!  Waves are hard to handle but they always break, this one will too. I hope it's

very soon.  Mamma hugs.

I'm sorry you are having a rough time Bubble,  I agree with MammaP, don't change anything at the moment.  Its really not surprising that you are in a wave.  Recently you have been on a very important trip, you had jetlag, an infection and then there was the stress of the holidays, that's a lot of stress for someone NOT dealing with medication issues.

Be gentle with yourself.

Dear Petu,

thank you so much for putting things into perspective for me!

I'm amazed how quickly and correctly you get to the root of things. That is exactly my problematic pattern: I put myself under too much stress and then get very surprised when my body and mind rebel against it. The therapy helped me  alot to become aware of that pattern but I still very often slip into old ways.

In addition to everything you summed up, in the past month I also had 2 job interviews (one of them involving a very stressful trip abroad)... So reminding me to be gentle with myself is very, very appropriate!

I'm learning so much on this site, by reading other people's stories (and trying to help with my experience whenever I can).

It is showing me that some people are unfortunately in a much worse distress than me and still manage to survive and endure. This gives me strength. It also shows me that one can survive the horrors of panic attacks, depersonalisation, etc. WITHOUT drugs, that drugs often exacerbate things in such cases  and that these hicups will not result in permanent impairment but that things will eventually abate and we can still no matter how broken and Humpty Dumpty we felt, be 'normal' and 'put together' again... (with the help of the king's men on this forum ;)

For me New Years' Eve is less depression and anxiety inducing holiday than Xmas (strangely ;)

I wish you all as much relief from depression and anxiety, good sleep and windows but above all, friendly support!

I'm so very grateful for this community...

lots of love,

Hello,
I am tapering Lorazepam, and my daily dose is 1.125 mgs.

I followed a long hold for 5 months, ( Nov-March 2019) hoping to find some stability,

but it did not work. So I resumed my taper and hold pattern.
For the last 3 years, I have been using a daily microtaper, cutting .001mgs per day, with holds as needed.
Symptoms are head pressure, labored breathing, palpitations, abrupt surges of dizziness, this being my worst symptom for now, internal tremors, my latest nemesis, unsteadiness, anxiety, plus many other symptoms that cycle in, and cycle out consistently. Not a day passes, without grief :(

I take no other meds.

January 2013 - 15 day quick taper off 10 mgs of Lexapro, and 25 mgs of Sertraline,

at a detox clinic.

Thank you dear Lexi for stopping by and your very kind words!

it makes me feel better. this whole forum does ;)

I was away a bit which means I felt better ;) Spending a nice time with my boyfriend, symptoms are less severe!!!

Except that I had my second in life migraine the other day. When I had it the first time 2 years ago, I had no idea what was going on so went to the ER. Knowing makes things more bearable and curbs the fear...

We had a strangely globally warm weather here which makes the whole nature utterly confused and makes things had even for healthy people not to mention what it does to our poor nervous systems... I believe it was one of the factors that triggered the migraine as well.

love to all,

Just a bit of journaling if I manage. Today is not such a good day but when I'm better I'm away enjoying life.

There were 2 occasions very important for me that I'd like to record here.

I marvel how people here so articulately describe their feelings, states and symptoms. I'm rather deffecient in that area. When my therapists would ask me how I felt, I would very much struggle to come up with anything more than BAD. Then maybe anxious, depressed...and after that I was totally at a loss for words. Reading the posts here has immensely enriched my vocabulary in that respect, I think ;)

So the first remarkable event ocurred on the New Year's Eve. I decided to push myself out of my exterme lethargy and accept a friend's invitation to join his extended family for a party with my boyfriend. In the end the plan was dropped and he decided to spend time with us in my flat with a midnight visit to the main square. I had enough energy to be interested in the plan but was totally scared of how  I was going to pull it off. So was relieved to find out we were not going anywhere in the en . We worked shorter hours at work but when I got home instead of starting with preparations I 'took a nap' that left me even more (lack of words): mentally nauseous, low energy, irritable...

I started preparing food with extreme difficulty, my boyfriend was helping, he put on some festive music, my irritability was growing till it reached the I feel-like-jumping-out-of-my-skin level and I coudln't control it any more so shouted at my boyfriend to turn the damn music off (which made me feel even worse, understandably). Then I was engaged in more display of totally foul mood, snapping at my boyfriend, being unhappy about how the food was coming along, blaming every detail for aggravating my nerves. Even my extremely patient boyfriend lost it a bit to which I shouted I was in withdrawal and he should have more understanding. He said I should try to own some of my feelings and be responsible for them instead of blaming it all on WD (interesting point but it did little to help my mood as you can imagine).

And then I had a brainwave! I was behaving exactly as my mom on festive days! Every festive day was a great occasion for her to go into an extermely bad mood. Preparing food in tears, bemoaning her destiny, blaming us kids for everything that went wrong with cakes, shouting to stay away and not disturb her... It was not pleasant to witness especially when you are a kid but I think we got used to it. I also remembered that nobody ever thought of referring her to a psychiatrist or putting her on meds. It was just a part of her personality and we all dealt with it the best way we could. She had no other 'symptoms' but festive days were her 'thing' in that way.

This interesting realisation calmed me down a bit, in a way it gave me a licence to vent. Who cares if my mood is not exactly festive? It sort of runs in the family (I need licences for my feelings ;( But still there was a concern over a friend coming over. It was in a way OK to be that crazy with my boyfriend but with a friend, oh myyyy....

I knew I would have to fake it but was afraid of how much strain that would put on me. However, when he came we quickly agreed that none of us actually wanted to go to the main square and that brought tremendous relief. And then a real miracle started happening. The friend started playing music, I was dancing with my boyfriend. I like (d) dancing and I did it with my usual vigour, My mood started picking up. I changed into more festive clothes and was dancing with more and more energy. By midnight I was in a great mood, we watched fireworks (not a drop of alcohol).  Then we danced some more and my boyfriend couldn't keep up with my bouncing any more so he said that the next they I would be a sorry sight. This made me laugh from my belly. I laughed long and deep. I hadn't laughed like that not only for weeks, months or even years but probably ever in my life! Later we sang songs till 3 am like people who had something to drink (although we didn't drink absolutely anything). It was my best New Year's Eve ever.

(the other 2 stories are not so nice but I feel I have to tell them a bt later).

I just want to make a record of the last 4 extremely difficult days. At the movement I feel like I'm miraculously coming out of it but maybe it's too early.

Anyway, after around 2 weeks of very low energy and motivation, I came to life but only for a few days.

I always find it difficult to describe my symptoms and states beyond words such as 'I feel awful, anxious, depressed', etc.

Since we are experiencing spring in the middle of winter or in place of winter, on Sunday I took my customary walk up the hill that I can sometimes do in an hour but this time after a period of inactivity it took me over an hour and a half. I went with my boyfriend and as we were going up I felt absolutely awful (for lack of a better word ;): extremely tired, sluggish, just thinking of finishing this task so that I could go back home and sprawl on the couch, irritable like hell, snapping at my boyfriend for nothing, brain fogged...

But I was pushing both myself and my boyfriend up the hill. It was sunny, birds were singing, the sky was blue, a stream was murmuring, my pulse and breathing were accelerated after three moderately steep parts.

When we climbed up and sat on a wooden bench, the brain fog lifted, I felt calm, relaxed, tranquil, my mood was positive and even, I could think and feel, I had energy to do things. On the way down I was taking pictures of the nature and laughing, thinking clearly, my universe had expanded… That's what usually, almost often happens with my reluctantly started hikes. But it happens only after at least an hour of walking. The more physically exerting it is, the more tranquility it brings. Walking slowly on the even terrain doesn't do the trick…

When I got home, instead of crashing on the couch, I vacuumed, cooked dinner, phoned friends. And this state lasted for around 3 hours as it usually does. My sleep that night was however shallow, full of intense and vivid dreams that left me almost more tired upon waking than I was when I went to bed. And then on Monday it started again but this time different: strange and painful anxiety, constantly feeling like a bubble that is about to burst, or having that jumping-out-of-my-skin feeling, tired and sleepy but can't get any rest.

I think I also had a very intense feeling as if my brain was missing something. Missing it badly. So I was almost daydreaming about a bit of Xanax that would extinguish all that painful intensity in my brain, body and soul. But I was determined to completely rule it out as an option and see what will happen.

What happened was that I felt almost unbearable day in day out, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. So many days, so little relief. Feeling like I want to shout and scream and hit or just curl on the bed and groan. Sitting in my office unable to concentrate but grateful we are in a brief slow period which allows me to spend time on the forum which is the only thing that brings me distraction. Having small windows of functionality when I can do more work to send to my boss to maintain the appearance of a functional worker. (I'm usually very active and quick and even when in thick brain fog I can do things as good as my colleagues).

I wasn't sure how much of that I could survive, when it would end. It seems today I feel like the storm has calmed down, or is this just a short period of my daily functionality for which I'm immensely grateful.

I just want to compliment myself that in these 5 very difficult days I resisted all temptation to change anything about the drugs. There was almost no temptation. I just knew I was not going to do it.

I ran out of fish oil tablets so started wondering if this might have had some influence. I have to admit that my attitude about supplements is like something that can't do harm but can't do much good either. But I was taking magnesium, probiotics and herbal tea just so that I could put something into my mouth expecting relief. Maybe they did help but it was in such a subtle way that I didn't notice it ;)

I did restorative yoga from a video Gia posted for an hour one day but apart from walking for half an hour to and from work that was about everything I managed to do to increase my wellbeing. Short days don't help either…

In any case, I have survived one very challenging week.

I'm trying not to think about when I will finally stabilise enough to start tapering. I just wanted to write this down since it means I'm not there yet… and patience is still the only medicine that is in order.

Dear friends,

I have made a decision that I will (unless there is a veto from you :) cut on my Xanax by 5 %.

I've been feeling stable for around 3 weeks now. It doesn't mean I feel rosy but my symptoms have reduced and become predictable. They are mostly on the depression side: low energy and motivation while anxiety has been low for the past 2 weeks. Most importantly, I sleep well, even more than 8 hours. Actually sleepiness can be said to be a symptom but as Alto said, better sleep too much than too little and I feel my nervous system is recovering through that sleep which is mostly peaceful and deep.

I haven't had cortisol mornings for quite some time either. It doesn't mean I wake up chirpy but again the symptoms are more on the side of depression: I feel a kind of mental nausea, hard to describe. But it goes away as I 'force' myself to get up and go to work...

I eat well, I'm not under stress, do more exercise. The only issue is that a week ago I for the first time in my life experienced the acid reflux from my stomach :( And my stomach hasn't been really well since then but I'm managing.

I've also read several times Alto's article on why reducing ADs first and benzos later is preferable. I understand it and it makes a lot of sense. But after thinking for a very long time I've decided that I will start my tapering journey by working on a benzo first and bring it down from 2 mg to 1 mg before dealing with the AD.

My reasons are connected with my individual situation: 1) I have never been at this high dose of Xanax for this long (3 months), 2) I've read benzos can stimulate depression and intuitively feel that this extreme sluggishness I've been experiencing lately could be explained as an effect of the benzo.

In any case, I will be very conservative and when the time comes reconsider dealing with the AD before but now I feel I have to come down of this high dose SLOWLY.

I had a strong urge to do this a month ago. Then it was prompted by symptoms. I held it for a month not changing anything about the meds. Now I'm speaking from a much more stable situation . I'm thinking of using my last batch which will last for another 2 days and then prepare a new one with that gentle cut of 5 %.

What do you think: am I ready to give it a try or should I wait longer and let my CNS enjoy this stability?

hugs,

bubble

Bubble… this sounds very similar to how I was feeling at the beginning of my journey for tapering the lexapro and xanax.

I had a suspicion that the xanax was really sedating me excessively and that I could manage a cut of that before I tackled the lex.

In retrospect it was a good call.

I think 5 % is reasonable.

If you decide to go ahead with it I wish you the best of luck.

Just be cautious and open minded Bubbles.. If you experience symptoms that are scary or powerful you might want to adjust your xanax solution so that you are reducing by less than 5 %.

There is no hard and fast magical %. Even if you can sneak in a 2% cut you will be doing great!!

I will be very, very cautious. I've read enough stories here...

But I want to give it a try at 5 %. Just trying to work out the math. 1.9 mg divided by 5 equals 0.38 mg per milliliter.

So how many mg should I dissolve in how many ml to get 0.38 mg/ml? Oh my maths....

It sounds like you have thought about it carefully.  Wishing you the best :)  Let us know how it goes.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

Thanks a lot Petu!

Had another great 3 hour hike in the snow yesterday. The weather has finally normalised so it also greately contributes to my sense of wellbeing. Last week visited sauna which also had a great effect on me: it made me feel very calm and relaxed and removed fatigue (at least for a while ;)

Also got a lot of green vegetables from my mom's organic garden, homemade sauerkraut, chicken broth, squeezed citrus fruit, trying to avoid gluten and dairy whenever possible, luckily was never much into sweet things...

I will sure keep you posted! Starting in a few days...

hugs

Just for the record: I'm just going through a wave of a bit heightened anxiety (I wish I was able to describe how I feel more accurately...

I think the wave is already abating but just wanted to mention it since I'm planning a decrease and it happened before I changed anything about the dosing.

Of course, if it continues or gets worse, I will postpone my tapering plan...

just a window, or window at last.

I'm prone to negative programming: this too shall pass so training myself to enjoy it while it lasts and acknowledging it although I'm aware of its ephemeral nature is part of the training...

I admire your endurance! Is the thought of the weekend bringing you some relief?

Not at the moment. I have to see my therapist today and I`m very afraid of it. Last time I had a bad panic attack while I was there and I don`t how I will make it. Scared.

But yes, another week is behind us and we are a week closer to feeling better. I`ll try to focus on that. Will you join me? :)
