Thanks Amy!

In deepest water. Was hit pretty hard by the quick drop from 0.9 to 0.2mg in 5 weeks, but handling kind of. Then a worst flu (?) started yesterday with fever, aches I never had in my life along with head symptoms, severe pain, congestion etc. feeling something My body could not handle, or more accurately dying from it.

I wonder if this is what ppl call flu like symptoms, or a real flu. What are the differences between the two?

Hope you feel better from the flu soon! I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to microtapering lexapro. It took me 14 months to get from 0.5 mg to where i am now, 0.08mg. I think you are right about immune reactions and how they are closely tied to our nervous system-functions. Infections can make withdrawal so much harder. Hang in there!

Sept 2015: 5 mg Cipralex for 3 weeks. Lots of side effects. Reduced to 2.5 mg for 2 weeks. Experiencing withdrawal and side effects still after dose reduction. Quit after almost 4 weeks on 2.5 mg because of adverse effects. Experiencing withdrawal symptoms still. Reinstating 1mg after 3 weeks. Reduced to 0.50 after 2 days due to sensitive reaction (dysautonomia) and trip to ER. January 2016: After 14 months of tapering from 0.5 mg im now down to 0.08mg. Planing on one more drop before 4-8 weeks healing, then jump to zero. 14.03.17: Lexapro free!

Hi cipromillion,

Thank you for stopping by!

Wow, just read through your entire thread, omg, I wish I got to know your story earlier. The reaction of our body to WD and drug are so similar, almost exact symptoms as you described for both WD and drug reaction! It seems you were very sensitive to the poison from the very beginning, while I started having the same sensitivity after a few dose increases.

I'm very sorry for what you went through for being on this drug for a very short period, and angry with how these extreme dangerous drugs were giving to ppl lightly,

How did the journey go from 0.5 to 0.08? Was it more WD or Reaction?

I am very happy for you that you are feeling much better now and working 100%.

Keep the good work and spirit!

Lex

Thx for responding to my thread!

Really glad i found your story also, and im so sorry for what you have been going trough because of Lexapro. Also glad to see that you are improving, and i did find your 1% tapering technique fascinating.

0.5-0.08 has been a lot of waves and windows. Often i get som WD symptoms 4-5 days after a cut, but the worst symptoms will fade back in 4-6 weeks. I get nightmares, akathisia and fatigue. But i feel better as the dose gets closer to zero.

How are you feeling now? Did you cut from 0.9 to 0.2 at once?

Hey, nice to hear back from you quickly

I can say you made great decisions along the path of balancing the two evils- Wd and reaction! I read thousands cases here and know how confusing when one is in between the two and how difficult to chose the right direction, then adjust/ correct when things are not right. It's very encouraging too hearing you are healing nicely being so close to the full freedom!

Akathesia like symptoms (tight teeth, muscle twitch, blurred vision and severe DR) caused by drug reaction are what pushed me to jump lately. As shown in my signature, I did try to touch the cliff wall by cutting like 10% everyday in the past 5 weeks to get down from 0.9 to 0.2. I had to take the liquid 10-20 times each day for a long while to reduce immediate reaction, so about a week ago, I felt I simply couldn't take more drops otherwise I would die right there, even with the super fast taper, so that day I only finished 0.3 mg (cut 0.2 mg in one day) then cut a few more big drops the next couple days until 0.2 mg.

The reaction is not too strong since then, mainly blurred vision after each tiny drop, so I can hold for the past week without the need of cutting more. WD is catching up with full force though as expected. I hope I can hold as long as possible for the rest journey giving the reaction is tolerable

Don't know yet as it's still quite short how things will be like, also in the haze of the nasty cold now don't know what is what anymore. Another strange/ interesting thing is, every time I got a cold, the drug real acted symptoms would be shy in the background or totally gone.

Hope to hear from you more often. I'm so ready to cheer you up big at your finish line!

Best,

Lex

Many strange things in the past week which is expected for the huge drop from 0.9 to 0.2 in 1 month, obviously in the effect of WD, feel like a milestone in someway so time for an update for the records.

The past two days were like hit by a powerful tornado. It is kind of strange in a way it came and went so quickly in less than two days, which is different from the normal flu I ever experience. So I'm still a bit suspicious about it, weather a true flu caused by a virus or the flu like thing from WD. Giving that it happened 6 days after my cumulative huge dose reduction and the unusually pattern, I'm still not sure I should call it a flu.

Other than that, some thing else new also happened yesterday. In the past 8 years ever since I started taking Lexapro, I never cried with real tear, most is wet in eyes regardless what, while yesterday in the middle of the suffering, suddenly I felt strong sadness and sorrow about what happened to my life and had a true normal though cry with tons real tears. I consider it a sign of weakening of my normal emotion, although the feeling is gone after that.

Lots pains various types, and all the familiar strange head sensation on and off. Random fatigue, heart pounding, light nausea etc which are not my typical symptoms also showed up.

The extreme tension in head, tight teeth, twitches less ironed a lot, with remaining drug reaction symptoms mainly just severe blurred vision , feeling almost blinded for a good hour after each tiny drop before lifting up before the next drop. So with the small amount of the dose left, I am pushing the dose mostly to the bed time to reduce the vision issue impact on day time activities.

Still too early to summarize, only been 7 days since 0.2 mg, will see how it goes until stabilizing. Will try to hold long as much as possible from here.

Lex, you have a strong spirit. It takes a lot to go through what you are going through.

Crying is good, it releases tensions. And it is a sign that your body is coming back to normal. And maybe you needed that cry, the ssri trauma is a sorrow. I have cried so many times over this. Really cried in despair.

I hope your flu is better soon, whether it's the Lexapro or an infection (or both?). You will come out on the other side soon, feeling better.

Hang in there.

I would be suspicious about the "flu" thing too. Your cuts are quite severe, so all kinds of weird things respond in the body. I remember having "tonsillitis" 4 times in one year and I hadn't had it since being a teenager. You have come so far and not much further to go, so take it easy from now on and give yourself time to recover from this month's big drop.

Thank you my dear lady friends!

It's no doubt a good part of my strength is from your great example, company, care, support!

And the very bottom line, that I can't leave my son alone in this world, even now I'm a source of sorrow. Home is where mom is, even the mom is so sick and useless, especially true for a family of single mom and son.

I feel broken more often these days, felt like reached the limit of enduring. The main suffering is on the physical side, allover pain, acid washing, extreme muscle tension and stiffness.

On the bright side, my spiritual side is lifting quite obviously, had a few big laughter, hearing music/song in my mind, and nice feeling of intimacy, of course Those happen only when the physical pain is not strong, but they are the long lost feelings during my multi year tapering. Also, my brain is working lot better for works ( working from home with flexible hours) even with tons physical symptoms.

thanks all my SA comrades, for being my company. Can't do it without you all.

I truly hope all this eases up soon for you ... strangely enough I have also had muscle tension real bad, spasms and cramping much worse and put it down to the heat making it worse. I didn't know you had a son, Lex, so I don't know how you manage to care for him a well as yourself and hope he can get through this too as it must have an impact on him.

It just shows how w/d affects our spirit and just this year I have began also to hear songs and positive things in my mind which is a big change for the good, so my brain must be starting to heal. I have started having some good days here and there, yesterday wasn't too bad, just very tired, almost fatigue type, but not quite so bad today. Overall, I am coping reasonably well and look forward to hearing the same from you again, very soon.

1995-2007 20mg Aropax/Paxil for pain. Years of up and down doses

2008 Endep, Lexapro and then Esipram (hell!) CT (oh dear!)

2011 5% taper. 9mg-7mg (hell got even worse!)

2012 2.5% taper. 6.6mg – 5.6mg (worser still & unbearable)

2013 5% taper. Big mistake. 5.5mg – 4.6mg (even worserer)

Hi lex,

Hope all is well, thinking of you. Ali

10 years citalopram 30mg- tapered down in December 15/2015- Jan 15/2016 to 20mg for two weeks, ten for one week and five for another week, then stopped, less then two weeks later, sheer hell broke lose with debilitating withdrawal symptoms.

Update-- reinstated 5mg of celexa on feb 5-- within hours noticed immediate difference in WD symptoms-- Holding holding and more holding.

Updose- March 23/16 too 10mg- relieved the harsher head symptoms- current symptoms headaches, dizzy, numbness and tingling in my head.

Benzos- 2015-Ativan on and off for 6 months 2mg- switched to clonazepam nov 2015- 2mg till Jan 2016 Zopiclone 7.5mg nov-dec 2015- was tapered off over 4weeks- Currently in protracted withdrawal. ????????????????????????????????

Update- ended up in the hospital April 18/16 major suicidal ( never had that before) was admitted/ been there ever since, put me back to full dose celexa 30mg no drugs added, IAM FINALLY STABLE AFTER 3 months of tortuous hell. Got a great physiatrist that new all about WD, he will help me taper properly in a couple of months at 5% deductions holding 8 weeks. I never want to relive that hell again.

Udate- stable and holding, doing things slowly is key.

Thank you all my dear friends!

I was in a whole new world of acute withdrawal the past week and kind of still in it, seems the second wave just started right after the first one with half day break.

Need to concentrate fully on it until a breather to update.

The next one Will be a very special and significant update.

From your description of symptoms, one can almost suspect an allergic reaction to the drug?

Dear Amy, thanks for checking on me!

I was thinking about you the same time!

Sorry I was not able to update for a while going through the most incredible part of the journey since the big drop down to 0.2mg. I did get momentary good day or hours during this period but don't know what to think about the whole situation so was hesitating to say much here.

Had one week of severe WD right after the 0.2mg with The drug reaction lessened a lot. But it ramped back soon so had to cut again almost every day since then now I am down to 0.1 mg now. I got many new and strange and scary WD symptoms ( one example, I felt my entire left body was not there, then the next day the same happened to my right body) the first week since 0.2mg but thankfully those didn't say long, actually left quite fast. Giving the huge changes, I lost my mind of what to ink of. But I'm still surviving kind of in a hazy way.

The drug reaction is incredible, like yesterday I was put into a coma for 3 hours after the initial dose of 0.004 mg. in general, it seems after each cut, I would feel better or more accurately feel alive from death. I don't know what gonna to happen to the rest 0.1 mg, most probably I will reach near zero verry soon., but still will try to hold on to the very last tiny bit ( like 0.02mg or something ). Same time, First insomnia night yesterday which is alarming so need to be careful about this last 0.1 mg. regardless, it all depends on how much I can bear with the reaction.

Basically, I have been riding up and down the strange waves every hour and minute form the dose change I made completely by listening to my body, in terms how much I can bear from both sides ( WD and reaction), mainly those from reaction ( I call it serotonin syndrome, maybe not the acute type).

I'm not reliable to post here with comprehensive information so I have been trying not to do so.

I will provide a full update once ready.

How are you doing? I am still around the forum a lot but not able to post much. I saw you are still at 0.13 mg. hope you are doing well.

It sounds absolutely terrible, Lex. But you will soon be off.

I have also got sensations that parts of my body feel numb, bur not whole half sides like that. I am glad it went away quickly.

You are so brave, and you are managing this so well considering how scary this must be for you. I am with you all the time!

I am down to 0.11 mg since yesterday. I am doing ok. I had quite a good week last week, felt almost (almost!) normal. It got a bit worse on Sunday. After the tiny drop a muscle spasm (also felt numbed under) in my foot disappeared. As did the burning in my face and mouth. Crazy horrbile drugs!

Many many hugs!

Started on 25 mg Zoloft in March 2011 due to stressrelated tinnitus that gave me panicattacks. Had a terrible reaction to Zoloft from start, but was told to "hold on". After four months I was stuck. Therefore the long taper. Crazy, I know... Super sensitive to drops and have dropped by 4-6 % from the previous dose.

Hearing you so quick makes me feel we are sitting together face to face :) very nice feeling!

I'm really happy things are moving alon well with you aT this low dose. You will be off too with a soft and light landing!

Yes, it amazes me how human brain can bounce back with so much tough hit constantly for so long. What I went through and being still alive is a real proof of that and it gives me full faith we will all heal.

I have the numb body for long constantly but the one I got lately is different. Numbness is a sensation meaning you can still feel, I couldn't feel my body at all, like you don't have that part.

Another thing incredible is how powerful these drugs can be, or should say how sensitive my brain has become. No one would believe me that 0.004 mg has that much effect. When I am in a day with WD in control, that tiny bit can lift my WD wuite a lot in a few minutes, and when a day the reaction in control it can knock me off completely. I know it's not placebo effect. This tells how small the jumping off point should be, we are not insane, it's the drug.

((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks. The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg. Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017
