Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide NAD

I just came across something on a website about this supplement (a co-enzyme needed to break down vit. B3) which said that supplementation with this might help chronic fatigue.

I likely have CF caused by drugs, I am exhausted all the time and was not like this before I reacted to an AD.  The article had a lot of problems with it (it said it helped anxiety and depression and had the usual chemical imbalance myths suggested as causes) so I wasn't going to buy into it completely; however I wonder if possibly it does help with fatigue even if it's not for the reasons stated.

It also is apparently being used for some kinds of drug withdrawal including pain killer withdrawal.

I am curious if anyone has tried this for drug-induced fatigue and if so if it helped them. I know it's likely that it won't help given how reactive we can become to supplements but since I didn't see anything on this here thought it would be best not to presume.  Does anyone here have experience with this?

What's the relationship to niacinamide?

I am not sure...

I have to look more into this, I can't find where I read that bit about it being needed to break down B3...I just read something that might contradict that.

Regardless here is a site that I found yesterday where they are using it for a bunch of different things including script drug withdrawals apparently (treatment at this place with it is super expensive though, seems a little over the top):

I knew nothing about this, but I am taking quite a bit of vitamin B3 as slow-release niacin, at least 500mg/day. Now my warning symptom that I need more is nausea, it used to be anxiety. I'm about to try to switch to regular niacin and try to find my flush point. A dr. who used niacin for schizophrenia said he suspected the reason for needing such high doses was an enzyme problem, which would fit with your product. He wrote Niacin: The Real Story. A doctor that follows the same type of orthomolecular medicine said he (the author) was a genius pioneer, but they now believe niacin is part of the treatment for people who are "overmetholizers", not a treatment for schizophrenia. People with many different conditions are overmetholizers according to him. I have a fibro diagnosis, for whatever that is worth. Which does not answer your question at all :)

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

Psych education.org has a section on NAC, you can use the search box on the home page. Also, Gia posted something yesterday or day before about kindling. The link towards the end is very interesting, the author has CFS.

Actually this is helpful as is there not some element of fatigue in fibro too?  Do you find the B3 to be helpful and if so what does it help with if you don't mind my asking?

That's also interesting about the niacin-schizophrenia-enzyme link, I had read about niacin being an effective treatment for it though haven't heard much about it since I read that.

Right now the niacin helps with nausea and muscle pain. We have decided to see the orthomolecular people in Chicago as I am just sort of stuck.

"Pharmacy Compounding Committee Review: Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+)"  from FDA.gov

Patient J.M.  34-y-o woman with over 20 years of Adderall, Ritalin. Currently on antidepressants x 2 years.  Recently a few months of Suboxone and cocaine  Also found to be hypothyroid and adrenal insufficient  Very spacy, very hard to feel motivated, depressed.

Patient J. M.  Bone pain, restless legs and anxiety from Suboxone gone on day 7.  Brain zaps from antidepressant withdrawal resolved day 7 All cravings resolved by day 7.

Texted a month post-treatment that she is feeling great, with no relapses

PDF complete file too large to attach here. Can be found at www.fda.gov and/or by a google search of the headline in quotes above.

There are a number of NAD+ supplements now available. Most of them being precursors. Many do well on them but they can burn up your methyl donors. I didn't do well with those ones as I have genetic methylation issues. There have been some recent pure NAD+ sublingual supplements as well as enteric capsules which aren't just precursors. Pure NAD+ typically doesn't fare well with stomach acid.  IV seems to be the most successful. Countless testimonials on YouTube from ppl who underwent addiction treatment with IV NAD+ and didn't experience any withdrawals or cravings during the process. Feeling brand new again within 10-14days. Seems to have pretty incredible healing effects on the body.
