Got the shrink rappers to blog about the 10% rule/Relevant links?

I have been posting on the Shrink Rap Blog comments, http://psychiatrist-blog.blogspot.com/ on various blog entries. I have repeatedly commented that psychiatry needs to study the 10% taper rule and finally, one of the psychiatrists, Roy, has done a blog entry on it.

http://psychiatrist-blog.blogspot.com/2011/06/ten-percent-solution.html

He asked for relevant links on pub med. As I responded in my comment as AA, I wondered why he needs research to back up something he said makes alot of sense and isn't dangerous. I also suggested he contact Dr. Belaise. I had already posted the link to the thread about the withdrawal studies so I didn't want to repost it as they don't seem to not like repeated postings of links.

Do we have any that we could provide him?

As an FYI, if anyone decides to comment there, they are on edge big time about people making what they perceive to be anti psychiatry statements. I know everyone here is very respectful but I just wanted to alert you to the the blog tenor in case you weren't familiar with it.

I am very excited that we have an audience on a mainstream psychiatry blog to make our case.

This is a most amazing development! I'm familiar with the shrink rappers and I think they have the potential to peek over the fence and see our side of the story. What's next? Them believing protracted withdrawal and PSSD? You never know...

*By the way: didn't Heather Ashton help develop the 10% reduction method with her benzo clinics? I think that's where the 10% rule of thumb came about for other psych meds, as it had a proven track record with the benzo clinics. Alto, is this true? Are there any studies Ashton did that speak about the tapering schedule?

Been on SSRIs since 1998:

1998-2005: Paxil in varying doses

2005-present: Lexapro.

2006-early '08: Effexor AND Lexapro! Good thing I got off the Effexor rather quickly (within a year).

**PSYCHIATRY: TAKE YOUR CHEMICAL IMBALANCE AND CHOKE ON IT!

APA=FUBAR

FDA=SNAFU

NIMH=LMFAO

Currently tapering Lexapro ~10% every month:

STARTING: 15 mg

11/7/10: 13.5 mg

12/7/10: 12.2 mg

1/6/11: 10.9 mg

2/3/11: 9.8 mg

3/3/11: 8.8 mg

4/1/11: 7.8 mg

4/29/11: 7 mg

5/27/11: 6.4 mg

6/24/11: 5.7 mg

7/22/11: 5 mg

8/18/11: 4.5 mg

9/14/11: 4 mg

10/13/11: 3.6 mg

11/9/11: 3.2 mg

12/7/11: 2.6 mg

1/3/12: 2.1 mg

2/2/12: 1.8 mg

Yes, I think 10% is somewhere in Ashton, maybe someone else can look it up? I'm kind of pooped out on research right now.

My comprehension is zilch today but she seems to advocating a reduction every 1 to 2 weeks. It seems like it is 10% but I didn't double check.

http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/bzcha02.htm#10

And go to this link, http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/bzsched.htm, and scroll down to the bottom for AD withdrawal. She definitely is more in line with mainstream psychiatry on this than what this board advises. Of course, we don't know if she has since revised her thinking on this.

I couldn't find it but she also was advocating the tapering every other day strategy which we all know is usually a disaster and makes no sense medically.
