Lower back pain

Hi Guys,

Well im in my 8th week free of paxil now, and today seems to have started out to be a better day in many ways,

but,,,, ouch the lower back pain, it started for me after my docs idea of tapering in 2005, it was the equivalent of ct,

and the back pain has travelled with me since then.

Somedays its downright atrocious, others its tolerable, and it has been known to disappear altogether at times,

but today... its at a 12/10, ive taken paracetemol with little relief, does anyone know if there is something

else i could try that would not kick off wd symptoms, as i know while tapering i could not do advil/ibuprofen,

just really looking for a little relief here, im beginning to feel like a pensioner way before my time.

Anyone else suffer lower back pain in wd????? any tips to offer.

Began taking 30mg Seroxat on 15th Jan 1997 for grief issues. Remained at that dosage until Dec 05, did doctor ct, akathesia set in along with being non functional and overly emotional, brain fog. Doctor prescribed prozac, propranelol and diazeapam to counteract side effects, and told me to ct those 3 after 2.5/3 months use, induced wd seizure on 2nd day after ct. Was reinstated on seroxat 20mg in april 06, remained at that dose until Nov 07 and began a very slow taper lasting 56 months, finally DRUG FREE on 11th may 2011.

I get Mid back pain and severe neck pain, I usually just take Paracetamol or suffer in silence.

Started Seroxat(Paxil) for panic attacks in 1997 stopped the drug in 2005 tapered over 3 months ( doctors advice)

Suffered severe and protracted withdrawl ever since.

No other medication taken.

Look on the internet for back pain/gentle stretches. There are several that can be done easily. Also, try sleeping with a pillow between your thighs and knees. That helps me when my back is tight and in spasm.

Acupuncture, physical therapy, chiropractic can help. Also, many of us have lower back pain from sitting too much, the back gets weak and maybe withdrawal sensitivity hits it -- back exercises can be good, too.

I have a congenital (born with it) lower back problem and I got to Pilates classes, they've just about eliminated the back pain.

Anyone tried ARNICA gel for back pain?????

Seems it works, but wondering how or if it would affect us in wd, as i know all herbal remedies are not ok for everyone,

as most have sensitivities after paxil use.

Have noticed that earlier on in wd, the back pain used to be constant, when at 10 wks off i woke up with zero back pain and am free of pain all morning until about 2.30 pm , then at 3months off, the back pain only becomes evident late afternoon 5/6pm but is extremely painful and is still present when i go to bed.

So although its as painful, it seems to be appearing later and later in the day ?? which puzzles me.

I've had back pain forever, even while on meds, so I don't think it's withdrawal related. I've actually been doing better than in a long time by doing pilates. I went to a chiropractor for a year and it just made me worse... but that could be because my problems are a congenital defect in my lower back and my pelvis and sacrum getting shifted from a fall too many years ago. I think the attempt to fix the problem was worse... the chiropractor blamed my lack of progress on something I was doing, but when I quit going and started pilates, my pain improved about 95% within 3 months. So, I recommend pilates!

I do get weird muscle pains which I think are withdrawal related... for that too I think exercise and massage is best. And drinking lots of water.

'94-'08 On/off ADs. Mostly Zoloft & Wellbutrin, but also Prozac, Celexa, Effexor, etc.
6/08 quit Z & W after tapering, awful anxiety 3 mos. later, reinstated.
11/10 CTed. Severe anxiety 3 mos. later & @ 8 mos. much worse (set off by metronidazole). Anxiety, depression, anhedonia, DP, DR, dizziness, severe insomnia, high serum AM cortisol, flu-like feelings, muscle discomfort.
9/11-9/12 Waves and windows of recovery.
10/12 Awful relapse, DP/DR. Hydrocortisone?
11/12 Improved fairly quickly even though relapse was one of worst waves ever.

1/13 Best I've ever felt.

3/13 A bit of a relapse... then faster and shorter waves and windows.

4/14 Have to watch out for triggers, but feel completely normal about 80% of the time.

I have back pains, on my spine (middle and low area. Pain in the bones, not the muscles (impression of stiffness also). It freaks me out, I have the impression of having a distorted and twisted spine! I am gonna make a radio, at least to reassure myself, but can it is wd related? I know that back pain is part of the bundle, but I have read a lot about muscles. Can it be in the bones? I find it difficult to understand the relation, but why not. As I am pretty tall, it may be a physical problem. My biggest fear is that it triggers a RLS leg. (my tickling has traumatizes me). Anyway, this feeling of distorted spine is pretty scary. Anyone has the same?

ang, seriously, hunching over a computer aggravates whatever sensitivity to pain you have in your lower back. Exercise can really help. Are you walking every day? Taking breaks from the computer?

Roads, your situation may be similar. It's probably not your bones, it's a hypersensitivity reaction. Maybe the ligaments around your bones are tense as well.

Yes, I walk 40 min at least everyday (I have always liked loitering). I have cut the time spent in front of the screen, between two hours to four hours on average. The probelm is that as I am pretty tall, it is quite impossible to straighten my back when I sit so as to eat or be on computer... I'll go to the doctor and make a radio, just in case it would need some care, but I think it must be the tendon as you pointed out. it would explain the sensation of stiffness.

I started having bad low back pain a couple years ago. I don't know it has to do with the fact that's when I started anti-depressants. I have all kinds of tests and can't find out why. Doctor then diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia. But I don't believe that dx. I did physical therapy a few months ago and it helped alot. I really enjoyed the pt in the pool.

Taper from Cymbalta, Paxil, Prozac & Antipsychotics finished June 2012.

Quadriceps cramps, lower back pain

In 2016-2017 I was having lower back pain (due to improper, too-intense, self-prescribed exercises, after being sedentary for years). A physiotherapist showed me a simple set of about 10 exercises, and they did fix my pain!

For example:

- bridging

- writing the numbers 1-10 with a single (outstretched) leg, then with the other

Currently I'm having Quadriceps (inner thigh) cramps (likely caused by WD and/or Tolperisone) and some lower back pain. My recent experience (before this) was that when I do the above two exercises, my cramps get a lot worse, and stay like that for 2-3 days.

How do I do such exercises without exacerbating the cramps? Or maybe I should switch to other exercises?

I have these thigh cramps 24/7 in protracted WD from Zoloft and they refuse to stop. Nothing helps. Seems I’m not the only one. It is very painful. If you find something that helps, please let me know!

Thanks, Ryder. I'm not very familiar with yoga - does it include gentle strengthening exercises, or just stretches?

icequeen, I've been taking more (and different) magnesium the last 2 days, and it works wonders - I can now actually go shopping for 30-40 minutes without risking getting stuck outside due to cramps activating.

Specifically, I now take this: Doctor's Best Chelated Magnesium Glycinate/Lysinate 4x100mg

I try to take it with food, because I've found that this way I get much less GI discomfort from it.

It's not a 100% cramp-intensity reduction, but still, maybe 80%. I'm still afraid of retrying the above-described physical exercises, tho.

Yes. Both.

Vinyasa class is basically strengthening with a bit of stretching. Beginners start at Level 1.

Yin class speciliases in stretches. This is what I do. You hold each pose for roughly 5 mins and you don't have to talk to anyone which i what I like about it.

They also give you special pillows and blocks if you are unable to stretch far in the beggining but it is really nice to get outside and off the computer screen while doing it with other people.

I've just done a search on YouTube for pilates for lower back pain exercises routine and found this one which looks good and there are lots of comments saying that it has helped them with back pain.  And of course, proceed with caution.
