Still not too good, anxiety has increased, low mood, some tension. Looks it has been triggered by iron infusion. But I was so low that I had to go with this treatment... I wish I had not taken it, I was more used to low iron...

Had blood rechecked, my Serum ferritin level is 871 ug/L . Iron has increased but within the normal range.

This explains me being over-active...

There is not enough information on line as to what happens next...

Bike ride is great. But maybe it revved your symptoms up, when you felt afterwards overactive. It will disappear again.

05/2013 Lyrica 100 mg / per day for pain + PGAD resulting from caesarian delivery11/2014 started to taper: 50 mg per day/ for one week then c/tafter one month reinstated at 50 mg /per days of 10 July 2015 drug free-

how people deal with life stresses and wd? I have started a divorce process...this means that I am still holding...how to decide for next tapper? I always have some problems...

since iron infusion  I have been much better physically...so I could restart tapering...

I am in conflict...do not know what to do...I cannot constantly postpone, as life is full of problems and this way I would never decide to taper...

somehow I lost my ability to decide for next step...each evening I say, I would do it...but in the morning I don't...I am unsure if I worry about symptoms, feeling unsettled? I should be better now, as since iron infusion I have been much better...

Hi Ikam:

Only you and your body knows if it's time to taper or not.

Go with your gut feeling.

I'm glad you are feeling better.

Take care,

---CURRENT MEDICATIONS:Supplements:Milk Thistle, Metamucil, Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin D3, Levothyroxine 25mcg, Vitamin C, Krill oil.

Xanax 1mg 3x day June, 2000 to 19-September, 2020 Went from .150 grams (average weight of 1 Xanax) 3x day to .003 grams 3x day. April 1, 2021 went back on 1mg a day. Started tapering May 19, 2023. July 28, 2023-approximately .87mg. Dr. fast tapered me at the end and realized he messed up. Prescribe it again and I am doing "slower than a turtle" taper.

ikam:

I know exactly how you feel right now.

You could try a teeny tiny taper and see how it goes. You should know in 4-5 days. If it doesn't work, you can always go back up.

I'm not a mod or have a lot of experience, but I see people do that on the site.

Good luck.

Ikam,

You're doing better than you think.

I'm still at 2.5mg Lexapro after over 2 yrs of holding at that dose!

Will be very nervous about tapering, and have been waiting for the "right time" to start....which will likely be when I am established in a job.

I constantly change the requirements for a "right time!", as there a new events all the time. I have been in new job for two years, new house in 1.5year, started divorce, right now...got beyond iron deficiency, got through investigations...

As for me, I think that I will always find a new event, stress etc. /maybe I am just avoiding?

GREAT that you doing your job interviews! :)

I really think you're tapering as best you can given all that you're dealing with / going through.

Just drop when you next feel ready.

same here...being too chicken to re=start...

I remember I had similar problem before, procrastinated, avoided, changed goals, etc. then I did respond with some imbalance, but I think it was coupled with my iron deficiency, so I felt it more...

I am much better with iron...even sleep better since the infusion...

but

still have problem with a strong, wilful decision...

JC

Thank you...

As usually with me, it is difficult to distinguish "what is what", e.g. if my morning anxiety is about life- still unsettled in terms of accommodation, I am only renting, do not know for how long I will be able to afford it; waiting for divorce papers/solicitors, knowing that my almost ex wants to fight; having no family support, dealing with everything on my own, etc., etc.

or is this my body responding to a tiny reduction? I have no symptoms during the day...apart my usual gloom...

I need to stick with this tiny decrease, despite of my mind playing tricks and telling me "get back to the previous one..."

In my life scenario, there will be never better or worse time for decrease...I expect to be on a roller-coaster for some time (divorce)...

so TIME IS NOW...

Ikam,

You're doing better than you think.

I'm still at 2.5mg Lexapro after over 2 yrs of holding at that dose!

Will be very nervous about tapering, and have been waiting for the "right time" to start....which will likely be when I am established in a job.

Well everyday I think to myself....why don't I just chop the tiny piece of pill in half and get on with it (the taper)??

As you say, life is a roller coaster which we've been riding anyway, so why not just get on with the taper and accept that the CNS will respond regardless?

There is no time like the present......

Thanks for inspiring me to just get on with it Ikam!

JC,

I have been on a roller-coaster for at least past 10 years; but with PTSD since childhood. My ANS is scrambled...

I just need to keep on track...stay on this for two, three more days and get another tiny 1%...I am OK, my iron levels are good, hopefully this time my body will be more able to adapt...

I want to do up to 3% and then stop for about two weeks...or longer...but not too long as this makes me terrified of the next step and I tend to avoid tapering...

Day 3 of a second slide

Usual question, how to distinguish that symptoms are related to WD, or they are just normal occurrences? I have had a headache today, and felt kind of anxious, but better now after getting up from the bed.

It is Friday, I may be more tired generally...

Don't want to get into looking for the evidence that I have WD, but don't want to minimise it either...

day has gone with no extra symptoms; responded normally to a letter from a solicitor (re: divorce), not a hopeful letter...I expect I will crash to my gloom tomorrow...always during the weekends...

I have been thinking how to utilise a "flashback protocol" to the"wd" protocol...Flashbacks usually pull people into re-traumatising themselves...this is a natural response, but the way out is to GET OUT of flashback...I am including this below:

Flashback protocol*

This protocol can be used to help halt traumatic flashbacks (WD symptoms) and ground you in the present by reconciling experiencing self with observing self. With practice, this may help to reduce the occurrence of further flashbacks.

“Right now I am feeling _____________________________________________________ (name the current emotion, for example ‘fear’)

and I am sensing in my body ________________________________________________ (describe, in detail, the current bodily sensation)

Because I am remembering _________________________________________________ (name the trauma, no details)

and, at the same time, I am looking around where I am now in ______________________ (say the year)

here ____________________________________________________________________ (name the place where you are right now)

and I can see _____________________________________________________________ (describe some things that you can see right now)

and so I know _____________________________________________________________ (name the trauma again)

is not happening now/anymore

I often panic when I get some symptoms that I remember from my past; so reminding myself that this is not happening now is really essential. Also, instead of getting overwhelmed with WD, this protocol my help in getting OUT of it...at least not so severe? I HOPE...

more about flashbacks- they remind me so much WD symptoms

Coping with flashbacks

What is a flashback? A flashback is a dissociated memory that returns to consciousness. It might be a smell, a taste, a sound, an image, an emotion, or a combination of these things. It might last a moment or linger on for weeks. Flashbacks can be described in many different ways. Some people describe flashbacks as being like nightmares that happen to you while you are awake, remembering memories, or re-experiencing the assault. Sometimes people describe smelling alcohol or perfume when there is no one present, hearing a word over and over again in their heads, feeling panic or dread for no logical reason, or seeing pictures, like snapshots or a movie in their head. Whatever term you use to describe them, they are usually very frightening experiences. This information is for people who are experiencing flashbacks, so that they might use the information to help understand and hopefully reduce/control flashbacks. Experiencing flashbacks does not mean that you are losing your mind. It means that you are at a point in your life where you are able to deal with things that perhaps you couldn’t cope with earlier. Flashbacks tend to lose their intensity once you have assembled the fragments into a coherent memory, talked about it, cried about it, and absorbed the memory into your life. The flashbacks you are experiencing are only memories. They cannot hurt you and you are not being re-abused. You may feel powerless because you cannot control when these memories are going to emerge. But you do have control over how you feel afterwards. You may experience a wide range of emotions. Acknowledge them and allow yourself to feel them (even though this may seem painful). Take some time to recover from flashbacks and look after yourself. By looking after yourself you are acknowledging that you are a good person worthy of nice things. Whatever you choose to do, take some time out for yourself.

Strategies for dealing with flashbacks

• Try to relax. Although this is difficult, trying to relax reduces the stress that accompanies the flashback and usually means the flashback will pass more quickly

• Concentrate on breathing deeply and slowly. Sometimes when people are stressed they forget to breathe, and they freeze up. When this happens it is easier for the flashback to take hold of you. Focusing on breathing helps to free you from ‘freezing up’ and also provides a distraction from the flashback.

• Remind yourself that the abuse is not happening now. You are remembering the abuse, and that can be painful, but it is still memory and not occurring right now.

• Find a safe place. This may be somewhere in your house, school, work, garden etc. Try to concentrate on breathing slowly and deeply while you are getting there.

• Seek out a support person, someone you feel safe with

• Imagine a safe place. This can be anywhere or anything that helps you feel safe. You could use a photograph, draw or write it down before a flashback occurs, so that you can have it ready and refer to it.

• Remember positive encouragements from your support people. Imagine the person is there with you, encouraging you. Think of what they would say to you to help you feel stronger.

• Touch or hold something to ground you in the present moment, instead of feeling pulled into the past where the abuse occurred. This could be a table, a chair or a pillow etc.

• Hold onto a soft toy or an object that helps you feel safe/comforted

• Use the flashback protocol. With practice this may help to reduce further flashbacks.

• You might find it useful to talk to other people you trust about it. This could be talking to a close friend, your counsellor, or even writing about it. This helps to acknowledge that although you suffered alone when you were abused, you don’t need to be on your own when you are healing from it.

That is awesome ikam. Would you mind it I print it out. I think it would help me a lot.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Get out and do something fun.
