AmyK: Intro about myself

Recommended Posts

I just read your thread Amy and it resonates so ,I have with my experience -

I was on Paxil for 8 years and after a failed taper, I updosed and feel that I had an adverse reaction from that updose -

Same as you., I immediately feel better after each cut and if I wait too long between cuts, I begin feeling horrible, confused, ringing in my ears, mouth burning, and blurry vision anxiety and exhaustion-

Then as soon as I cut I feel so much better.

-also I was feeling ok yesterday and decided to have 2 sips of wine, was going to have as all glass, but it was too sweet so I poured it out, however I felt 2 sips! I was shocked that just a taste could make me feel it! I didn't feel drunk or anything like that, just that begin I g warm sensation when you have had a few drinks -

Overly Sensitive cns I guess-

I wish you well on the rest of your journey

*Currently at 8.2-8.5 mg of my 10mg pill of Paxil (they actually weigh 12.5mg)

january 2023 I began reducing my med again. I was a 9mg weight for years, I went to 8.9 in January, went to 8.6mg in February, and in March 2023 I went down to 8.5-8.2 mg ( my scale varies, so I stick within that .3 range because of that)

*No other supplements or vitamins

*Taper schedule in the pdf

I've lost my cold tolerance Amy. Many years ago I lived in Montana for several years and didn't bat an eye at -34C. Now a days I can't even imagine it. And snow is nice to look at but not live with. Have you been getting the Northern Lights lately or aren't you far enough north?

-34C, that is really cold! :)

No, I have never seen northern light, actually. I have to go more north to do that.

**Happy New 2016** - it will be a good one!

Hugs!

Started on 25 mg Zoloft in March 2011 due to stressrelated tinnitus that gave me panicattacks. Had a terrible reaction to Zoloft from start, but was told to "hold on". After four months I was stuck. Therefore the long taper. Crazy, I know... Super sensitive to drops and have dropped by 4-6 % from the previous dose.

Thank you, Vonnegutjunkie! I kind of like the feeling that I feel better after a drop. Well, I better like it than dislike it, as it is the way it is for me. Somehow I imagine my body doesnt like ssri. Never did.

I wish you a calm and happy new year! All the best on your journey too,

Just in the neighborhood and thought I'd drop in to say HI.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

  • 1 month later...

I had a change in my life, and the anxiety level is getting high.

I havent worked for more than a year, but now I have started my own firm as a free lance, in my old field. I was longing for it, and felt better wd wise.

But now... I have such a huge anxiety level (which make the wd symptoms worse) and scared to death about how I will feel and not being able to deliver what I have promised. I guess I just have to take babysteps and be kind towards myself.

Sending healing thoughts to everyone.

Hi Amy--  It's good to hear that you're giving it a try as a freelance.  Working that way is hard even at the best of times let alone in WD.  Take it easy on yourself and do what you can, one project at a time.  You've got the chops it's just a matter of getting back on the horse and riding.  This is another situation where AAF will come in handy.  Best of luck.

Thanks Brass. I havent really started with the actual "working", I have just preparered for it. I have this whole year to come back in my own time. But the thought of being responsible for stuff scares me. AAF, yes! Thankyou for the reminder!

I am down to 0.94 mg zoloft. It weighs a little less than 3 mg. And would be equal to 0.37 mg paxil.

Maybe by this time next year this is all history. I cant wait.

Today I will just take a walk in the beautiful winter landscape we have. Sunshine and ice on the lake. I wish you all a peaceful day.

Vertigo since three days. A small drop yesterday eased it a bit, I guess. But I am having such catastrophizing thoughts, not good. Thoughts about things getting worse, that I am loosing control, that my "WD normal" (that I feel I have control over) changes. I have had head aches, red eyes and more of that disgusting taste in my mouth. Maybe its all the pressure I have put on myself trying to get back to some kind of work. Probably. I have to be more mindful about it. So hard.

I also wonder if I have to drop all the way down to 0. When does one stop?

I just feel lost today.

Nervousness and a bit shakey. But the head is better. No head ache.

This is such a long road. Still, I hope and believe I will feel better soon.

The anxiety I get from wd is really doubled by the feeling that I am fed up. Wd has affected my family (as many of you surely recognize) and that breaks my heart.

I was crying really deep in the shower last week, and thought nobody would hear it. But my 13 year old son heard it (I realised afterwards), went into his room, slammed the door and threw his mobile against the wall and just cried heavily. The mobile broke, but that's nothing compared to the despair I feel for making him so insecure about me. He gets anxiety when he sees me fall apart. I am so utterly sad about this, but I talked to him, said I can handle my situation/feelings (can I?), and that everything will turn out fine.

He is in such a delicate age. I can see how sensitive he is about whats going on in the family. We have hugged (and talked) many time since then.

I just want to be strong for him (and his little brother). I have too.

Amy.     I'm sorry that you're going through this with your sons. Unfortunately , children seem to pick up on every little thing. I remember going through this with my kids. Trying to pretend everything was ok , when in fact it was far from ok !  This is what we do , as mothers. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it , and it causes me pain , at times, in retrospect .

.

I keep coming back to the quote from Maya Angelou .

" Do the best you can until you know better, then when you know better, do better. "

That is all we can do . I'm sure as you get stronger , your sons will , as well .

Hugs, Ali.

Hi Amy-- I'm sorry to hear that things have gotten rough for a while.  I always considered the shower a safe place too, but I guess you never can tell. I can sure understand the frustration you're both feeling.  Get you does down into the low 1s and things should really start to look up.  I had real trouble between 2.5 and 1.5 then things got a lot better.

(((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))

I know what you mean Amy - that's really hard to deal with when it affects your kids so much.  I have two girls, who must be similar ages to your boys.

One thing I've done is let them know can talk to anyone they like about what it's like having a mum in w/d.  Their own friends, my friends (whom they also know very well), I even offered they could see the school counselor.  And of course me and their dad, but you can't always say everything to your parents.

I don't think they've really taken me up on this, but I know that putting it out there that it wasn't a secret that they had to bear on their own was a helpful thing for them.

You may have already done something like this, and from your post above it sounds like you are doing a lot to ensure they have the support they need.  And they'll remember that too.  You sound like a really loving mum.

2010  Fluoxetine 20mg.  2011  Escitalopram 20mg.  2013 Tapered badly and destabilised CNS.  Effexor 150mg.

2015 Begin using info at SurvivingAntidepressants.  Cut 10% - bad w/d 2 months, held 1 month.

Micro-tapering: four weekly 0.4% cuts, hold 4 weeks (struggling with symptoms).

8 month hold.

2017 Micro-tapering: four weekly 1% cuts, hold 4 weeks (symptoms almost non-existent).

2020 Still micro-tapering. Just over 2/3 of the way off effexor. Minimal symptoms, - and sleeping well.
Supplements: Fish oil, vitamin C, iron, oat-straw tea, nettle tea.

2023 Now on 7 micro-beads of Effexor. Minimal symptoms but much more time needed between drops.

Hugs, Ali.

Ali, thankyou for your compassionate words. I love that quote by M Angelou. We are actually doing the best we can.

I try to "stay strong", carry on and kind of "fake it 'til I make it". I try to make plans for a better future, and I hope my kids feel that they are safe and that we as a family have hopes and dreams. --- Because I sure dont feel that sometimes. The days when I feel like I am in a black hole, and that I take everyone down with me, those are the worst... Those days I just rethink and rethink "this will pass, this will pass..it will change.."

Today is a better day. :)

Brassmonkey, Karen, thank you so much for stopping by.

Yes Brass, it will get better. I just have to have patience. I listened to two of Eckardt Tolles pieces on Youtube this morning when I woke up with anxiety. It was so calming and enlightening.

We (I!), put such an amount of energy on fearing things that might happen in the future, that it's actually more energy than the energy it takes to actually deal with it if it happens. Wow, that really spoke to me! I got up and felt so much lighter.

The struggle with wd is that you cant control it. The physical symptoms, anxiety and fear live their own lives. But one can try to stand more above it, look at it. "This is wd, and I just have to ride it thru". (sorry for my bad English :)

About talking to my kids, Karen. I have talked about wd, but I dont speak about it so much. Maybe I should. I kind of dont want them to worry so much. I have to think about this. I dont want us to have a "secret" that they feel they have to keep.

I admire you for your openness, also in your blog. I find it very liberating, if that is the right word in English.

Love, Amy

Low mood and slightly panic today. I realise this will take longer than I thought. Every little drop hits me hard now. I just dont know how I will find the energy. I long so much to go on with my life. I have plans for it. But I need my brain.

Dropped to 0.86 mg. Actually I think I was closer to 0.90 mg before I dropped. I drop by diluting the tiny piece of drug in water and measure tenth of milliliters out. It's hard to be accurate.

Felt very strange the last days and thought it was time to drop. Headaches, stoned feeling, drugged.

This is a 4.4 % drop. Holding thumbs it will be smooth.

Grateful for: Had a beautiful holiday a week ago, went skiing with family. Felt relaxed and calm.

Hello, Amy.

Good to hear your taper is progressing.

However, your measurement of the liquid will be a lot more accurate if you dissolve an entire tablet in water. See Tips for tapering off Zoloft (sertraline)

Thanks Alto, I never really thought of that! But I think I will be fine tapering like this.

I would still have to measure extremely small amounts out from say a 25 ml (pill on 25 mg) dilution.

I have been feeling fairly well and try to drop by small increasements now. It seems to work quite good. I stabilize quickly. It takes two three days. I dropped on Sunday, and by Monday morning I felt nausea and anxiety, bearable though. Then vertigo that got better and better for each day. Today Thursday I feel quite good and start to make plans for my life. That's hope to me!

I am getting very impatient. Sometimes I think of taking a bigger plunge, but I dont know if I dare. When I feel good everything seems possible...

Take care all.

Hi Amy-- It's great that you're recovering so fast after each drop.  Please don't get impulsive with things though.  You're coming into a really tricky area to get through.  I found 2.5 thru 1 to be very unpredictable and rather touchy.  Really listen to you body and don't rush things.  When in doubt error on the side of caution, and don't panic if something unexpected or strange happens.

It's good to be able to start making plans, it will help smooth the transition back to real life to have some idea of where you want to go.  I'm very excited to see where things lead you. Monica and I have been making big plans for over a year now and everything is starting to fall into place.  Just in time for the big jump this summer.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Thankyou Brass, AliG and Fresh for the encouragements! I will be very cautious, I promise you. I know how awful wd can be. I agree with you Brass, on these lower doses it's much more touchy. I get well quite fast, but I also tend to get more of headaches after a while when I have stabilized. If I just low the dose tiny the headache diseappear.

Earlier the taper was more linear. Really bad for a week, bad the second week, better the third week, then better and better week 4-5 when I felt stabilized enough (or felt drugged again) for a drop.

When do you plan to stop, Brass? In June? I am so excited for you too.

Current dose: 0! Free!  Quit June 2017.

2017: Last dose zoloft: 17 June 0,00065 mg 18 May 0, 001 mg 14 May 0,002 mg 9 May 0,003 mg 28 April 0,006 mg 19 April 0,009 mg 8 April 0,013 mg 25 March 0,019 mg 22 March 0,039 mg 18 March 0,052 mg 16 March 0,079 mg 4 March 0,086 1 March 0,099 mg 22 February 0,11 mg 15 February 0,13 mg 6 February 0,145 mg 24 January 0,15 mg 19 January 0,19 mg 10 January 0,20 mg 3 January

2016: 0,98 to 0,22 mg; 2015: 2,35 to 1,01 mg; 2014: 4,9 to 2,5 mg; 2013: 9,1 to 5,1 mg; 2012: 15,7 to 9,7 mg; 2011: Started on 25 mg - then 50 mg- dropped to 25- to 12.5 mg - back to 25 mg - after 18.75 mg started tiny tapering to 16.6 mg

Rough calculations says August sometime.  That will put my at .48 according to my current schedule.  I'll probably be holding here at .8 for an extra week or so because I will be on the road for the second week of the drop if I stick to my schedule.  I just checked and it will be the third week so I may as well go ahead and drop.  It's a big celebration trip and don't want to spoil it.

Hi Amy - thanks for another positive update.  I'd stick with smaller reductions - no point rocking the boat.

How exciting to be making plans for your life!  So happy for you.
