Zoloft 100 mg. daily for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since Oct. 1994 / Synthroid 88 mcg. daily / Supplements: Neptune Krill Oil-1,000 mg. twice daily/Astaxanthin 10 mg. twice daily/Ubiquinol 100 mg. twice daily (These 3 have allowed me to discontinue (approved by doctor) bp meds I was on. Calcium Citrate 500 mg. daily/Vitamin D3 2,400 iu daily/K2 (MK7) 100 mcg daily (osteopenia and fam. hist. of severe osteoporosis). Stress B Complex (1/2 dose)/Quercetin (for allergies/asthma)/Magnesium (400 mg. oral glycinate and about 50 mg. magnesium chloride spray oil a day, divided throughout day).

Tapered Zoloft about 6 wks. Totally off since the end of July (25-29, 2014). 3 wks. vertigo at end of taper, then 3-4 wks. OK, followed by withdrawal symptoms increasing in severity (nausea, gastric disturbances, loss of appetite, insomnia, restlessness, jitters, anxiety, agitation--jumping out of my skin--possible akathisia?) Seem to have paradoxical reactions to everything new, even Vitamin C. Severity of akathisia comes and goes, but is constant to some degree. Hard to leave house, and cannot be home alone. (Retired)

Thanks Cali and Tilly. Appreciate  the thoughts and support.

Thanks Fresh, I haven't updated here, as I didn't want to jinx, myself. I didn't want to say that I was great, and then be "blahh", the next day. However, for the last week, I have been feeling pretty good.  The thing is I have enough experience now, to know this could be the calm before the storm.  I am cautiously optimistic.  Thanks for checking in on me.  I will add to this , later in the week, as I progress, but I'm loving that I'm not in a deep depression, which I normally would be after this long off the "drugs", without knowing that I was in withdrawal , from the drugs, but instead thinking that I had "major depressive disorder", from going off the drugs, as I was "chemically imbalanced".  The story that the doctors and " big pharma", spin.  Confusing, I know. That's why it takes so long, to work it out.

Anyway, at the moment I'm going day by day, moment by moment, not expecting much, except just to keep myself going, so that I can keep hoping for and having "windows" , as they happen.  That gives me the strength to keep going until the next one. Eventually, I know I'll have one huge "window", that will go on forever.     I'm hoping we all do.  Hugs and prayers, for all here.

Update :      I seem to be having  a "window". I can't quite  believe it.  It is quite remarkable. It's still early days, and of course could be gone again, before I can blink, but it feel's good.   I'm of two minds, how much to write. I know people are suffering here, but at the same time, it's also good to hear of those who are feeling better. I know I like to read  those positive stories.

My sleep has improved from total insomnia, or 2 - 3 hrs max, to normal  sleep of 7 - 8 hrs.  I think this factor alone, accounts for much of the improvement. It  means I have the energy to do some of the other things, that help recovery like exercise  and cooking  healthy food.  Making the trip to the supermarket, doesn't seem to bother me, whereas a couple of weeks ago, I could not even go there. I had to get my husband to go.  ( lights, noise, crowds, etc.).   As a result, my mood has been brighter, and I have had some happy moments, just doing normal things like cooking, gardening, going to the gym, sitting on the front veranda  reading. The weather has been lovely and sunny, so it's really nice to be outside at the moment. I have just been soaking up all the little things that I haven't enjoyed  for quite a while.

I know this could all end tomorrow, just  as suddenly, but I'm really enjoying each moment, for now. I feel very grateful, for every little thing. I don't take anything for granted, and never will again. That is one good thing to come out of all this, I suppose. It's like a heightened sense of being alive, after feeling " dead inside", for so long.  If and when this "window" closes, I will remember this  and it will  keep me going, as I have had a glimpse of what is possible on the other side of "withdrawal.  We do heal, however slowly it may be.

The recovery was slow and painful, but I became conscious of every little improvement as it happened. I got used to the pattern: something would get better for a while, then suddenly everything would swing right back and all that recovery would vanish. But I learnt the trick - once something had recovered temporarily, it was only a matter of time before it recovered permanently. It made no difference if it came back for a while... it had already revealed its weakness, and sooner or later it was going to be gone for good. That was true in every single case.

So pleased for you. This is such a good sign that you are going to get better. Just be careful still not to overdo things.

I really get what you say about not wanting to say too much about feeling improvement when there are people on the forum who are so poorly. I have to say though that  when I am feeling rough I comb this site for people who are getting better and that gives me the  strength to carry on.

Enjoy the warm sunshine and the fresh air and all the other things you have been unable to do.

Hope you've been able to really enjoy it..and it is important to post about them, as it does help when others are struggling. Plus, you've got something now to go back and read when you need it. Take care.

Remeron for depression. Started at 7.5 mg. in 2005. Gradual increases over 8 years, up to 45 mg. in 2012.Began tapering in June 2013. Went from 45 to 30 mg in the first 3-4 months. Held for a couple of months.Started tapering by 3.75 mg every month or 2, with some longer holding periods. Eventually went down to 3.75 mg. about April 2014. Stopped taking Remeron August 2014. Hi Ali

I'm happy you're having a window. It's very important to share about these because they give all of us hope. You will have many more windows in the future. Healing is happening. Enjoy this one to the max.

I suffer from depression, anxiety, pure-o ocd, and panic attacks since 2004. Been on multiple different psychiatric drugs since 2006. Never had a significant WD problem before, only brain zaps for a month and then I'd be fine...............Been on Cipralex (escitalopram) 15 mg and Fluanxol (flupentixol) 1 mg since Sep 2014. Stopped taking the Cipralex after a fast 20-day taper.Took the last 5 mg Cipralex on Feb 5th, 2015. Then took Seroxat (paroxetine) 10 mg for a week, and stopped it too. Severe WD started suddenly on Feb 16th. RI 5 mg Cipralex on Feb 18th, 2015. RI worked and was relatively stable for a while................April 7 - decreased Fluanxol from 1 mg to 0.5 mg and took it at this dose for a week. - BIG MISTAKE; April 13 - WD starts creeping in; April 14 - RI full dose of Fluanxol 1 mg => severe muscle twitching and jerking when trying to relax and fall asleep, overwhelming sense of doom, dread, terror, and horror, insomnia, hoping to stabilize.
Tried doing a 10% cut off Fluanxol in the end of May for a few days, but quickly updosed to full dose because the twitching returned.
Experiencing waves and windows in the following months.
Unsuccessful brief taper attempt of Fluanxol by 5% on November 1st. Symptoms hit the next day. Too scared to continue tapering, reinstate full dose.
Severe crash in November after stupidly trying a barbiturate on November 9th. Grave mistake. Sense of unshakable inescapable internal torture, like my soul is in hell being tortured, terror/horror/dread/doom (probably akathisia?) that gets especially bad when trying to relax and fall asleep, muscles twitch, jerk and move on their own, shaking, insomnia, can't eat, confusion, disorientation, brain not working normally. Never felt so bad in my entire life. Never experiment with other meds while in WD! Praying to God I stabilize and get back to my baseline.
December - things getting even worse.

January - unbearable suffering

Thanks Blue.  Update : My sleep continues to be improving on the whole. I still have the odd night of total insomnia, but I can handle that, as it's not constant, like it was.  Other symptoms have improved as well. I have a lot less of that disconnected feeling, accompanied by free floating anxiety and  dread.  The depression, which has always been my main symptom seems to be missing at the moment.  This is a pretty big deal as it has been my constant companion for years.  I'm still having my low days, but something has shifted and they don't have the same intensity or frequency.

The buzzing in my head  has gone  as well as the heart palpitations. I'm not as agoraphobic as I was and most of the time I'm happy to go out although I still like my own company a lot of the time. I think that is a withdrawal survival strategy. This might change in time however I think I will always want and need my alone time.

So in general I'm starting to enjoy life again. I'm hoping this feeling doesn't disappear too quickly. In the meantime I'm going to  savor it.

Well , you started feeling significantly better on May 5.  So it's been 2 weeks of feeling improved.

I suspect that this might the point where , when the waves come , they're shorter and less frequent , i.e. on their way out.

I've got my fingers crossed  :) .

Thanks Fresh, that's how it feels. I just had not   worked it out . Although I should have , as I keep a diary.   I suppose I was in "long term mode" , not expecting much.   I've got my fingers crossed too, now , although, still very "guarded".   We'll see.  Thanks for pointing it out , though.   Thank you sooo much for your help, guidance and friendship.   Much appreciated.   "On their way out". I like that.  :)

Hi AliG, I am so happy for you that you are having a nice window! That is wonderful, and it gives the rest of us hope too. Thank you for stopping by my thread, I really appreciate your encouragement. It just takes a lot of time for our brains to heal, but we have to try to stay positive and maintain hope as best we can. And your window gives me a lot of hope! Take care and enjoy, so pleased for you!

2005-2009, Lexapro 10 - 20 mg, CT WD w/severe depression and anxiety:  2010-2015, Paxil, 30 - 40 mg, tapered off at 10 mg/week, moderate anxiety and depression:  2010-2015, Clonozapam 0.25 mg, as needed for anxiety and sleep:  1/10/2015, Zoloft 25 mg, tried to increase to 50 and 75, but nausea and dizziness:  2/13/2015, Paxil 5 mg, added back after 2 weeks at zero to reduce WD:  2/28/2015, Paxil 10 mg, increased from 5 mg to reduce WD, HOLDING:  3/04/2015, Zoloft discontinued (reduced to ~12.5 mg on 2/19, ~6.25 mg on 2/26, then zero):  4/26/2015, Paxil starting 10% taper (no scale so was inadvertently at 20% taper, yikes!):  4/30/2015, Paxil 10 mg, reinstated (WD disappeared between August 2015 and May 2016)

5/02/2016, Started 10% taper, reinstated to 10 mg on 5/11/16:  4/29/2017, Last dose of Paxil (working with holistic psychiatrist, lots of supplements to aid WD):  Primary symptoms: apathy, demotivation, anhedonia, fatigue, stress intolerance, moderate social anxiety

7/1/2018 Finally feeling like myself again, success!!! Praise God! Even with the stress of relocating recently, I am feeling pretty good most of the time now. Granted, I eat healthy, I exercise, I don't drink caffeine or alcohol and I try hard find a healthy balance of quiet and social times. Hang in there and keep the faith, you can do it too!

Hey, Ali! That's great that you're having a window! Hope it continues to last!!

(Retired)

But the major breakthrough in my relation to psychotropic medications was the realisation that in such situations it's best to do NOTHING.

It's not a particular dose that fixes things but stability over time. Fear is our worst enemy, fear that things will spiral out of control and this is a beginning of worse things to come. But it's not. It's just neuroemotions. Acceptance is our main ally. Acceptance that things are as they are AT PRESENT,only now. And if we patiently endure them, they will go away. Holding righ were we are is our best bet. Updosing is often seen to make things worse because it introduces change and changes mean more destabilisation, that is more symptoms.

Don't change anything and you will soon experience what I call the miracle of holding:thing getting better without changing the drugs, actually because of not changing the drugs.

Even though I'm not tapering. This rang true for me, for those who are.  It makes sense.

If you are facing a challenge and have reached a place where you don't know what to do , do nothing. Get on with your day, as best you can. The solution you seek, will make itself known to you , when the time is right.

Ah , yes ,  bubble has a way with words.

I love it when you read something that just clicks.   I read a beauty today on the facebook page of Dr Ann Blake Tracy.

It went something like this:   This is how antidepressants cure depression.

When you survive withdrawal , you're so grateful to be alive , you won't be depressed anymore.

Hope you're having a good night Ali  :) .

O.M.G. I love that.  I'm glad that's on my thread.  I've come across her name. Just can't remember where.   Who is she??   I love some of your sayings, Fresh. I've quoted one on here. I agree, sometimes things just "click".  But you remember them, and they help get you through.  I read on "Clearday" , I think,  he quoted "Tom Hanks", in "Castaway", where he says, I just said to myself each day , " Keep Breathing".    I've said that, as well.   "just keep breathing", and keep putting one foot in front of the other.

 Thanks Fresh.  :)
