Hi,

it definetely was the antibiotic, not the surgery.Because I was in such a good place when I took the first pill,I immediately felt the change: stiff neck,

weakness and a feeling of beeing closed in my body. And when I stopped-thi was two days after ther surgery-the horror began.

Well,I m a little bit better than in the first 4 weeks, but it is just sad.

I remember,that a member here-I think Dawn B had a similiar reaction.

The question is,do I will react to every AB in the future like this-or was it ONLY the amoxicillin?

HI I am in the same situation.  I started my teeth implant last Friday on Sep 19 and I am on amoxicillin.  Since then, I am having a bad wave, my body trembling, weak, no appetite, with dark thoughts.   And today is the 4th day of amoxicillin and the symptoms are getting worse.  I am calling the doctor to ask if he can change the antibiotics.

So anyone know any other types of antibiotics might be better???

If I continue amoxicillin, I will be the bad wave for at least 3 more days. I am not looking forward to it at all.

2004 Sept paxil

2005 July I quit Paxil(CT) Sept., acute WD/relapse then reinstated Paxil.  In 5 days felt better.

2006 March quit Paxil (CT) again then April acute WD/relapse reinstated Paxil.  In 5 days felt better.

2010 Oct. I had the same episode above

2011, I had a breast cancer (stage 1) and doctor changed Paxil to Effexor 37.5 mg.  (she said effexor works for hot flushes and it's better for me)

2012 in May, Effexor dose was increased to 75 mg because it wasn't working much for my hot flushes.

2014 in May, I changed back to 37.5 mg.  Because of few of the side effects I did not like.

My breast cancer is now all cleared.

2012-2014 I was quitting effexor every 3 months without knowing the harmful consequences. no WD until 2014 Aug.

2014 2014 Aug 25 after 1.5 months of off Effexor, WD reinstated 75mg for 10 days and got adverse reaction then Finally found this forum
2014 Sept 1 reduced the dose to 37.5
2014 Sept 20 took antibiotics (amoxillin) for tooth implant which led me to terrible WDS again
Oct 13 started to taper;  took 4 beads out of 38.  had one great week and Oct 21, after flu shot, acute WD
I realized each cap has a different number of beads.  Started to count 34 beads. Waves and Windows in 2 weeks interval.
2014 Dec. 28 Started Prozac bridge with my psychiatrist's instruction.  Added Prozac 5mg
2015 Jan 07 started to taper Effexor 5 beads everyday
2015 Jan 13 Effexpr 0 beads +Prozac 1.25 ml (5 mg) +Klonopin 0.25 mg at night: since tapering off Effexor, feeling great, much less tinnitus and tingling pain
2015 Jan 22 increased Prozac to 10 mg due to the depression.

I just talked to my doctor and he prescribed me Zithromax (azithromyci) for 3 days.  I remember in the past, I was OK with Zithromax.  I will try and tell you how I am doing.

I was going to taper from this week but I will wait until next week.  I am in a terrible wave now.

Sept 22 I took amoxicillin at 8:00 and at night I took Zithromax at 20:00.  I had terrible insomnia with negative neuro-emotion.

Sept 23 was terrible wave.  Flu-like symptom, restless, worried, fearful, sad.

I took the 2nd dose of Zithromax at 3:00 am of Sept 24.  I was still very weak but little better than yesterday.  Now at 18:00 and a lot better than 4 days in the past.  I will take the last dose of Zithromax tomorrow early morning.

And will see how I feel.

Sept 24-26 I was in hell.  I was desperate.

While I was on the antibiotics, Sept 20-26 I had terrible symptoms exactly the same as my acute WD.  I never had this horrified experience with antibiotics before.   I am guessing that I went to the tooth surgery too soon after my acute WD.  (it was 3 weeks after )  My CNS was not completely stable yet.

On Sept 27, in the afternoon, (that is 2 days after my last pill of antibiotics) I started to feel much better.  My friend came over and we went to the park walking and talking and had some relief.  That was the first time in 4 days I could go out of the apartment and function normally,

I still have a little bit of flu-like symptom but manageable.

I could tolerate Zithromax fine, no problems at all. Until now!!!

i had to take it this week as i have an ear, chest AND sinus infection.

Since taking the zithromax, I now am dealing with insomnia, severe diarrhea, no signs of the infection clearing, severe depression and anxiety!

Was on Citalopram 20mg since Feb 2008 - switched to Paxil 20mg in August 2010

Tapered way too fast in April 2012 by skipping days. Taper completed in 6 weeks

Tried prozac 20mg for 3 days - felt spaced out, not better.

Tried 30mg Cymbalta for 2 days. SEVERE ADVERSE REACTION

Antidepressant free since 14 August 2012

Birth control on and off during this time - Last taken 18 June 2017 - Morning after pill

Started mainly using 0.5mg Xanax beginning 2016 for severe panic attacks and anxiety due to trauma

Xanax on and off never more than 0.5mg at a time, never taking it 3 days in a row - used sparingly

6 Years antidepressant free - Still in severe withdrawal with over 60 symptoms

Severe setback started May 2018 with no let up to date. Developed many new symptoms like tremors, inner vibrations, insomnia, visual distortions and dr/dp are 100x worse, i have severe sensitivity to movement, My dizziness and vertigo got worse and it now feels like im constantly rocking on a boat, my anxiety is sky high, suicidal idiation is back, i feel extremely brain damaged

I had derealization when taking Flagyl during WD. Felt like I was slipping down the Alice and Wonderland rabbit hole. Called the dr, and of course, she's never heard of that before. But, I talked to my Mom who was a nurse, and she told me antibiotics can make you batsh*t crazy. So, your not alone. I discontinued, and thank God it faded over time.

2005-Zoloft bad reaction.....2006-Lexepro......2012-Upped Lexepro.......2013-Upped Lexepro......2/2014- Attempted Taper Lexepro...2/2014- Updosed Lexepro.......3/2014-Ativan.....5/2014- CT switch from Lexpro to Effexor.....

5/2014-7/2014-Tapered Ativan from 1mg to .25mg.....6/2014-Bad reaction to Effexor........7/2014- Rapid taper Effexor every other day......7/5/2014- Off Effexor.......7/2014-12/2014 - Ativan .25mg.......12/25/2014 -Taper Ativan by 4% due to paradoxical reaction .24mg...11/18/2015-Taper Ativan 1% CURRENTLY ON: .2376mg Ativan taken in 6 .0396mg doses.

I had a severe adverse reaction to augmentin (Amoxicillin and clavulanic acid) and that definitely set me back. It took 6 months for those symptoms to get better.

Your nervous system is still very fragile. Do you maybe think its the jaw surgery that caused this wave? Ive seen it many times before. People go for surgery and they get hit by a bad wave. I believe its the anesthetics. Ive had bad experiences with amoxicillin too, but nothing like you describe.

I too reacted badly to Amoxicillin and clavulanic acid here in Canada they called it amoxiclav.

I took one pill first thing in the morning as I did not get the script filled till late at night and did not want to have an upset stomach trying to sleep.  Took the pill had a trip to make about an hour drive away almost made it too.  I had to stop to use the rest room at two gas stations I had bad cramps and the runs.  The third time I stopped I called an ambulance I was dizzy to the point I knew I could not drive.  When they go there I was sitting in my car he said what is wrong it told him I felt very strange and dizzy and about my previous stops ect.  He said come with me and took me in the ambulance he put the bp cuff on my arm and spit just started running out of my mouth kind of like foam.  I felt rude but I could not stop it... then projectile vomit and more runs.  It all came at once.  He said it was a good thing I didn't try driving any further and he wished others would realize that and stay off the road.  He asked if I had been to a farm as he said it looked like I had some type of poisoning they get at farms from fertalizer or something like that... racked my brain this is what he thought I had

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organophosphate_poisoning

but I had not been to a farm.  Off to the hosp I went I don't recall much else... I think they gave me some drugs in a needle they gave me Iv I know that.  I went to sleep for the day and was woke up at night and let go.  They had cut my clothes off so I had nothing to wear as it was to be a day trip only. They told me to buy some gravol apparently they thought I could drive home taking gravol.  I know I can't took a cab back to my car in my hosp gown... will not even get into locking my keys in the trunk when I tried to get gas to get home..... it was a bad day.

I have had amoxacillin since and it did not react this way so I stay away from clavin but it may be the two together I can't take I am not sure.  They never once told me what was wrong with me and I did not ask as I was asleep from abut the moment the ambulance took me to the hosp and not thinking well when I was released. I did not take a second pill.

From the wiki link above (idea given by the ambulance driver because of my symptoms) would be this:

The effects of organophosphate poisoning on muscarinic receptors are recalled using the mnemonic SLUDGEM (SalivationLacrimationUrinationDefecationGastrointestinalmotility, Emesismiosis)[5] An additional mnemonic is MUDDLES: miosis, urination, diarrhea, diaphoresis, lacrimation, excitation, and salivation.[6]

The onset and severity of symptoms, whether acute or chronic, depends upon the specific chemical, the route of exposure, the dose, and the individuals ability to degrade the compound, which the PON1 enzyme level will affect.

  • muscarinic, which respond to muscarine
  • looks like this
  • Toxicology[edit]

Muscarine poisoning is characterized by miosis, blurred vision, increased salivation, excessive sweatinglacrimation, bronchial secretions, bronchoconstriction, bradycardia, abdominal cramping, increased gastic acid secretion, diarrhea and polyuria. If muscarine reaches the brain it can cause tremorconvulsions and hypothermia. Cardiac ventricles contain muscarinic receptors that mediate a decrease in the force of contractions leading to a lower blood pressure. If muscarine is administered intravenously, muscarine can trigger acute circulatory failure with cardiac arrest.[1] The symptoms of intoxication with mushrooms rich in muscarine, especially Inocybe, are very typical: The symptoms start early, after one-quarter to two hours, with headache, nausea, vomiting, and constriction of the pharynx. Then salivation, lacrimation, and diffuse perspiration set in, combined with miosis, disturbed accommodation, and reduced vision. Gastric and small bowel colic leads to diarrhea, and there is a painful urge for urination. Bronchoconstriction leads to asthmatic attacks and severe dyspnea, and bradycardia combined with marked hypotension and vasodilation results in circulatory shock. Death after 8 to 9 hours has been reported in about 5% of the cases, but can be avoided completely by prompt diagnosis and treatment with atropine.[9]

Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Hello,

an update: it has been 3months now after I took the antibiotic and I m still pretty damaged, physically. My mood is better, also the flu like symptoms and I do look better.

But I still have the muscle pain, the head symptoms and I m very tired and don t tolerate any stress.

I m sad about things turned out after beeing in such a good place before this.

In Jan/Febr 15 I have to get out my metal plate in my shoulder which means another operation for me and time goes by year by year and every year I have to handle a severe setback and wonder where I would be without them.

How are you Zenwind? Have your reaction passed by now?

I hope getting it out will improve your health and maybe your back pain if that is what is causing some of it.  I hear you loud and clear where would we be IF we did not have to have other surgeries ect if life would just stop and wait for us to heal so we could do so in a unhindered manner.

I think this too from time to time but really what I think is what would life be like now had I never taken any of these pills... that to me is a better question.

I have had to have surgery too last year and it was a very big hurdle to get over the idea of possible drug reactions ect during surgery and how withdrawal and surgery would react together... in the end I willed myself away from the worry as there was no way I could go on without the surgery so why worry about it.

It all worked out as I am still here :)  all the worry was covered with the hosp before the surgery as I gave them a meticulously prepared  list of previous drugs I had reacted to.

As for it setting us back in healing from this who knows... likely not much we can do about it we can't not take a pill already taken and we can't skip surgery that could save our lives or make our lives more livable.

tricky question with no answer is how I see it

I wish you peace

Hi Solida,

It took me about 3 weeks to feel OK. I understand how sad and disappointed you are to experience the hell after you were doing well.  I was finally doing well last week but two days ago, I got flu shot.  Then I was really dizzy and tired yesterday and today.  I have been little depressed.   Any shots or medication go into my body make me sick.  I realized that especially flu-like symptoms and heart beating fast lead me into neuro emotional depression and having negative thoughts which I am most scared of.

I am going to implant my tooth in 2-3 months.  I am very scared of this.  I will speak with my dentist not to use antibiotics.  Then I will ask my friend to stay with me for a couple of days to help me mentally.

I still have numbness on my legs, ear ringing and easily tired in the evening.  Also I am quite overwhelmed by stressful situation which I used to take it as a challenge.  Now I need to take it one day at a time.

Time will solve a lot of things.

Solida, we are not alone.  Let me know how you are doing time to time.

In the aftermath of my nephew's psychotic reaction to Levaquin and Prednisone, I am posting this from Dr. Mercola's website about the dangers of quinolone antibiotics. Psychiatrists are sure it couldn't have been the drugs. He is leaving the hospital today, just on Benadryl for sleep. These quinolone reactions most commonly affect the peripheral nervous system, but we think the drugs most affected his brain because he was so inflamed from mono and allergic reactions to other antibiotics, so probably even his blood brain barrier was inflamed and dysfunctional.

Apparently Jay Cohen MD in California is the leading doctor on this. He isn't taking new patients right now, but "coincidentally" my sister's doctor at Tri-Life Health in Ft. Collins has treated several "floxies" as victims of this problem are known.

And grateful once again for this site. When my sister could barely sob out "he's manic," the first words out of my mouth were "exactly what drugs has he taken?"

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/11/01/fluoroquinolone-antibiotic-side-effects.aspx

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

Meime,

Thanks for posting this and I am glad to hear your nephew is out of the hospital.  How is he doing?

Yeah, it is amazing how because of our experiences we know to look at the the drugs as the possible culprit.

Drug cocktail 1995 - 2010
Started taper of Adderall, Wellbutrin XL, Remeron, and Doxepin in 2006
Finished taper on June 10, 2010

Temazepam on a PRN basis approximately twice a month - 2014 to 2016

Beginning in 2017 - Consumption increased to about two times per week

April 2017 - Increased to taking it full time for insomnia

If you want to delve deeper, here is what I consider to be the best review in a scientific journal of the etiology of a possible "flox syndrome".

It is called:

Musculoskeletal complications of fluoroquinolones: guidelines and precautions for usage in the athletic population.

Paste that title into your search engine. The abstract from Pubmed will show first, but it will not be hard to find the full text PDF on a website. The full text article is so widespread in the flox community it could just as well be public. The article applies to non althletes as well and explains how exactly the damage is done. Mercola did a decent summary but most do not consider him to be a reliable source, which is a problem when you want to convince someone of these problems.

April / 2016: Cipralex 10 mg, Mirtazapine 30 mg, Lyrica 600 mg, Diazepam 20 mg, Bystolic 5 mg

2018: Lots of polypharmacy which is undocumented here. Started and stopped several drugs and changed doses of existing ones

August / 2018: Back on track! Cipralex 15 mg, Mirtazapine 7.5 mg, Diazepam 15 mg

September 2018: Cipralex 15 mg -> 12.5 mg

October 2018: Cipralex 12.5 mg -> 10 mg, Mirtazapine 7.5 mg -> 3.75 mg -> Stopped, Diazepam 15 mg

November 2019: Cipralex 5 mg, Diazepam 10 mg

Thank you!

CS, he went home yesterday, they drove straight from Dallas to Colorado. He still has a lot of healing to do, but we are hopeful. We fully realize, especially with our gene pool, that this may have kindled something, but for today his parents got him through believing this is a physical reaction that he will heal from. Doctors would not budge from diagnosis of psychosis NOS.

Don't get me started on Cipro. LOL

I fully believe Cipro really messed up my Remeron though I could fine no interaction online about the two meds.

Anyway another drug called Larium in the Cipro family line has been found to cause permanent brain damage. They have found lesions on the brain stem and other regions of the brain from Larium. Larium is mostly used for people going to high Malaria areas.

Listen to this mp3 interview

http://www.katherinealbrecht.com/show-archives/?page=6 scroll down to the oct 11 radio show.

"Dr. Remington Nevin // Malaria // Mefloquine // Lariam //

Remington and Katherine discuss some of the horrific side effects of Mefloquine (Lariam) and why many people call it the "crazy pill".  It is amazing.  If anyone you know is looking at anti-malarial drugs please research this one VERY carefully before even considering taking it."

Back to Cipro. Check out this site.

It it horrific what happened to this man after taking Cipro. His story makes antidepressants look tame in comparison.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

found this on facebook about cipro. At least she got off of 17 years of antidepressants to find out she had been floxed all along.

"At one time I was on three antidepressants at the same time and the ahole doctor wanted me to take antipsychotic meds on
top I threw that one in the trash. I knew I was not crazy being crazy does not make your organs fail I am thrilled to say I am off all my antidepressants after 17 years which started after my first surgery in 1997 what I know now I am sure that is when my floxing started. I am very emotional and cry so easily now but my emotions are back. I will take the crying over feeling like a zombie anyday. Antidepressants did get me through. My huge box of meds is almost gone. God help the next doctor that tries to give me a quin you may see me on the news...Crazy b**** shoves fluoroquinolones up at doctors a**. film at 11 ha

another one from facebook, look at the stash of meds he took to fight psychiatric problems from cipro. OMG pristiq is in there and a MAIO inhibitor.

"Check out my awesome stash! Just some of the medications and supplements I've taken over the years to combat the CNS damage from Fluoroquinolones. Five years out and still have panic attacks, intra-cranial pressure, heat-sensitivity, brain fog, and general lethargy. Luckily no real lingering "physical" effects."

Going back to my nephew, the last doctor said it was a "clear" reaction to Prednisone. He is an integrative doc who doesn't take insurance, but my nephew's insurance provider on their own has gone after the psych hospital saying they failed to diagnose and Inappropriately treated a steroid reaction. The internist, allergist, and two psychiatrists were positive it couldn't be that. We just cannot be careful enough in watching over our own health. It's hard...my sister was right on it, but it was still like trying to break through a brick wall, and really they weren't able to. The pdoc in the second hospital tried to call twice and didn't get through on their cell phones. In the end, they never saw or talked to him once. But.my nephew is back to work and doing pretty well. Minimal drug exposure because, except for one dose that he said affected him worse than anything, he tucked the Seroquel under his tongue, swallowed water, and spit the pill out later. I guess nurses don't do mouth checks anymore when people are under involuntary holds. The system is screwed up coming and going.

Yes, a lot of people in the FQ community end up on benzos and AD's to fight FQ damage. My daughter was floxed 4 1/2 years ago at the age of 16. I have been on virtually all the Facebook boards related to FQ Toxicity for 4 years now. It took my daughter over 2 years to get 95% better. About 18 months later, all it took was her going to work at her first job (factory work) to have a relapse. This is very common. There are few who FULLY recover. Doctors deny until they're blue in the face, even though there are two black box warnings (spontaneous tendon rupture, and exacerbation of Myasthenia Gravis) and a warning (as of August 2013) for peripheral neuropathy, possibly permanent, with as little as one dose. These drugs were originally developed as chemotherapy, but I don't even know anyone who has undergone chemo who has the kind of long-term damage these drugs cause. They are toxic--pure and simple. They may "get" you the first time you take them, or the second, fifth, or 10th--but they WILL get you. The damage is cumulative, and everyone has their own tolerance level. Remember the names--Cipro, Levaquin, Avelox, Floxin. There are also numerous eyedrops, ear drops, and generics. My husband was floxed during cataract surgery with eyedrops two years before our daughter took Cipro. We didn't know what happened to him until her reaction--so, yes, the eyedrops and ear drops are just as bad. The eyedrops used most commonly in cataract surgery are Zymar and Vigamox. It has taken him 6 years to (mostly) get over it. They prescribe the eyedrops and ear drops to our children. Being under 18, Cipro was not supposed to have been given to my daughter as a "first line defense" (for a UTI it turned out she didn't even have). Fluoroquinolones are also not supposed to be given with steroids--EVER! I am fighting right now to keep her off AD's or benzos, but I can barely keep my own head above water :(

Zoloft 100 mg. daily for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since Oct. 1994 / Synthroid 88 mcg. daily / Supplements: Neptune Krill Oil-1,000 mg. twice daily/Astaxanthin 10 mg. twice daily/Ubiquinol 100 mg. twice daily (These 3 have allowed me to discontinue (approved by doctor) bp meds I was on. Calcium Citrate 500 mg. daily/Vitamin D3 2,400 iu daily/K2 (MK7) 100 mcg daily (osteopenia and fam. hist. of severe osteoporosis). Stress B Complex (1/2 dose)/Quercetin (for allergies/asthma)/Magnesium (400 mg. oral glycinate and about 50 mg. magnesium chloride spray oil a day, divided throughout day).

Tapered Zoloft about 6 wks. Totally off since the end of July (25-29, 2014). 3 wks. vertigo at end of taper, then 3-4 wks. OK, followed by withdrawal symptoms increasing in severity (nausea, gastric disturbances, loss of appetite, insomnia, restlessness, jitters, anxiety, agitation--jumping out of my skin--possible akathisia?) Seem to have paradoxical reactions to everything new, even Vitamin C. Severity of akathisia comes and goes, but is constant to some degree. Hard to leave house, and cannot be home alone. (Retired)

It almost seems as if I'm becoming completely anti-med. Although I have read that the safest antibiotics are

1. Penicillin
2. Amoxicillan
3. Cephalexin (Keflex)
4. Erythromycin.

This is according to a drug rep who got floxed. http://thepeopleschemist.com/drug-rep-exposes-antibiotics-risks-outweigh-benefits-you-have-alternatives/

I'm beginning to think long and hard about ever going to a doctor again. I will have to be really "bad off" to go again.

Yes, this is pretty much the "safe" list for antibiotics floxies use. I'm well familiar with the (a) drug rep that got floxed, but there could be more than one. Doxycycline is also pretty well tolerated, and most have tolerated Z-Pack as well, in spite of the warnings for people with heart issues with that. It appears more and more that floxies are tolerating Clindamycin when a strong antibiotic is needed. For UTI, the most commonly prescribed are Bactrim (sulfa) and Macrobid (some call it the FQ's "chemical friend"). Many have issues with Bactrim, but my daughter has not. After everything I have seen now, I would avoid it. Would not touch the Macrobid. For a UTI, D-Mannose in combination with Azo Cranberry consistently works for my daughter and myself. Antibiotics frequently are not needed. If anyone is interested, I will be glad to tell you the dosage that works for us.

(Retired)

Ah, yes. I clicked on the link, and see the former drug rep was indeed John Fratti. Really nice guy!! Literally half or more of my FB friends list is comprised of floxies. Small world. I was surprised to see this thread here on SA, but word is getting out. Doctors no longer have an excuse for not knowing!!

Doctors do it all the time, JDM. They completely ignore the warnings.

JD,

What exactly happened when you took the Cipro with the steroid shot? Were you on any other meds at the time?

Prozac 1999-2009 quit semi cold turkey.

2012 Placed on Seroquel 25 mg, Tranxene (Clorezepate) 3.75 mg 3x a day, Remeron 30 mg for anxiety/akathesia.

Weaned off Seroquel and Tranxene .to Remeron 15 Mg.

In May 2014 tried quitting Remeron at its lowest dose. Had severe withdrawals.Reinstated Remeron at 30 mg by doctor. August 5 2014 entered hospital. Doctor pulled the Remeron and bridged it to Pamelor (Nortriptyline) 40mg and Zyprexa 2.5mg.After removing the Remeron all my bad symptoms went away and I am stable.

Newer antibiotics may get worse.

"In what passes for innovation in the pharmaceutical industry, companies continue to modify the chemical structure of fluoroquinolones in search of similar, effective antibiotics that be patented. One recent study warned that members of the newest generation of such drugs, judging from their chemical structures, are even more likely to cause adverse side-effects than are now-popular ones like Cipro and Levaquin.[10] Because the truly informative testing of drugs occurs not during the FDA approval process but through their use by millions of patients, a lot of people are certain to experience damage from these drugs first-hand. Hey everyone. I have a question that I'm having trouble with. I currently take 20mg of Celexa (Citalopram) and have been taking this for 8 months. I have a nasty sinus infection to the point where I'm nauseaus, coughing all night, drainage, ect. I've got bad sinuses and have to take Sudafed PE often but now Sudafed PE does not work at all. I'm tired and feel so sickly. I have a Z-Pack (Azithromycin) I've had it for 3 months and just haven't taken it. My mother is a RN and says it should be fine to take with Celexa. However, i've read that there could be a serious interaction of qt prolongation. I can't take any other antibiotic for this sinus infection because I'm severely allergic to the rest they would prescribe allergic to every type of penicillin. I just need to know if anyone has ever taken a Z-Pack with Celexa. I've taken a Z-Pack several times before I was on Celexa and was completely fine. But scared if there is an interaction. I would love to hear from anyone as I'm really sick. Thanks to all for reading.

Using citalopram together with azithromycin can increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious and potentially life-threatening, although it is a relatively rare side effect. You may be more susceptible if you have a heart condition called congenital long QT syndrome, other cardiac diseases, conduction abnormalities, or electrolyte disturbances (for example, magnesium or potassium loss due to severe or prolonged diarrhea or vomiting). Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may already be aware of the risks, but has determined that this is the best course of treatment for you and has taken appropriate precautions and is monitoring you closely for any potential complications. You should seek immediate medical attention if you develop sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, shortness of breath, or heart palpitations during treatment with these medications, whether together or alone. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Hello ,I want to give an update 6 months after I took the amoxicillin for 5 days due to an infection and surgery in my tooth.( By the way 4weeks later I lost another tooth due to an root infection)

Unfortunately I m in a very bad place and my nervous system is wrecked.I recover only very very slowly and often feel like in the same place than 6years ago.

I m very confused, lot s of nervous energy after getting up in the morning till afternoon, and very bad after a walk.I can t go into shops beacause I  can t focus everything is too much for me,horrified of a having a shower, weepy, and so on and so on.All those symtoms which I have left behind me long time ago,and in summer I thought I m close to recovery.

And the worst: days of severe rage.

I m really losing faith at the moment.Never ever thought, that I would be experience the same horror in this life due to a medicine

Solida I am having the same thing.. I am not sure I can blame it on antibiotics tho I did have some actually lots last year - caused colitis so my doc says and had two other drug reactions one to baclofen one to atenolol...

Not sure but it sure as  h double hockey sticks sucks to be back here again and up all night waiting for 4am to roll around so I can sleep... 5 months is a long time another month has passed since you made the last post are there any improvements?

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations.
